An airplane is a mechanically driven air vehicle that uses fixed wings to generate lift from the airflow and support itself in flight. Airplanes can transport products over long distances and are used for both civilian and military purposes. While airplane configurations look similar, improvements to structures, materials, control systems and engine technology have increased efficiency and reduced environmental impact over time.
