Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Editor's Notes
This presentation is meant to accompany the Self-Guided Social Media Training Manual written by Emily Lehsten, Krystal Ricks, Nicki Saunders, and Kimberly Wolford.
The Self-Guided Social Media Training Manual is designed for Wegmans Food Market, Inc employees. As Wegmans has expanded into many new states and growing geographically social media will help connect employees across the entire organization with one another. Employees will use social media to connect with other employees, form personal learning networks (PLNs), complete mandatory technology training during work hours, and collaborate to learn from each other and solve problems. This presentation was designed to help employees understand how to use the Self-Guided Training Manual and also teach employees how to access and use social media tools for personal and professional development.
The idea of social learning comes from Albert Bandura’a social learning theory. Bandura “posits that people learn from one another, via observation, imitation, and modeling” (Asim, n. d.). Take that idea and add social media, and social learning becomes global. Learners find themselves more engaged in learning, collaboration becomes the norm, and productivity increases. Bozarth defines social learning as “online material produced by the public, distinct from content produced by professional writers, journalists, or generated by the industrial or mass media” (2010). Examples include Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. The material is used within a group to collaborate, learn, innovate, and share knowledge. Social learning is an amazing platform for employee training.

Social media platforms provide a way for people to connect all over the world to learn and interact from each other. Personal Learning Networks are formed when people mingle professionally and personally. Schools and businesses use PLN’s to form collaboration between peers, colleagues, and associates.
Knowing this information will help the training go more smoothly. These barriers should not dissuade employees to use social media tools for social learning and training.. If anything, it should give them a look into how the barriers can be eliminated.
1. Personal Privacy: Companies can read work emails and see what employees are doing while they are logged in on their computers. There are laws regarding personal privacy and can be viewed on GSA’s website http://www.gsa.gov/portal/content/104250. This site will list “various provisions of relevant federal privacy protection laws, regulations, directives, policies, instructional letters and more for reference” (GSA). When a person isn’t sure about privacy laws or policies they should ask first.
2. Copyright and Plagiarism: Copyright and Plagiarism can have some very steep
penalties or consequences. Trainees should be aware of the laws concerning copyright infringement and plagiarism. Plagiarism is taking another’s work and calling it your own. Items that are copyrighted must be granted permission to use in different works. Not only is it illegal for an individual to use copyrighted or plagiarised materials, the organization do this company can be fined and lose the right to have a copy and print center. Plagiarism also can have consequences like jail time. Always credit the original producer of work whether written, visual, or digital videos.
3. Work Ethics: Work ethics are the traits that employees have that demonstrate their moral compass and commitment to the work. Jenkins provides five factors that demonstrate a strong work ethic (2016). She lists integrity, sense of responsibility, emphasis on quality, discipline, and sense of teamwork. Therefore, in the workplace, employees should think about the content they wish to share before they share it. They should make sure that their work is up to date and follows guidelines of deadlines. Further, employees must work as teams by collaborating and respecting everyone’s opinion. Respectful debate may be necessary, but slurs and angry rants are not.
When businesses have issues they can use social media to connect with other companies having the same issue. They can watch videos to help, they can read blogs, or tweet issues. “There are now reported to be 1.5 billions social media users globally, with at least 70 percent of companies using some form of social media” (McKinsey Global Institute).
Video retrieved from YouTube; clipart retrieved from https://www.google.com/search?q=free+social+media+icons
By using social media we can connect with others that had the same issue, and learn how they solved the problem. We can use networks like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube to help solve issues as well as find help to solve the problem. Businesses can also use social networks like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter to help promote their company or spotlight a certain individual within the company. There are a number of social media tools available for anyone to use, however, this presentation will explore Twitter, VoiceThread, YouTube, and Facebook.
Twitter is a microblogging tool that allows users to post short messages (140 characters or less). This social media tool can be used to connect with others for professional and personal development. Twitter is very easy to use and costs nothing to sign up for an account. Twitter is also a great platform to use to establish your PLN. Connecting with others for a common goal or idea is easy to do on Twitter. You can use hashtags (#) posts on the same topic. For example, log-in to Twitter by clicking the link above. (if you do not have an account follow the prompts on Twitter.com to create an account). Next, locate the search bar and type in a topic you would like to find out more about, for example PLN, use the #PLN to search for Top Tweets about PLNs. (Image source: Saunders, N. (2016, July 8) School Leaders Now on Twitter. [Screen capture].)
Voicethread is another useful social media tool for learning. A. VoiceThread is a unique social media tool that allows people to communicate via other tools with voice and video, rather than just text. The site claims that when we text one another, we lose the intimacy that is derived from being in a physical space with a person. It is difficult to emote tone or mood through texting alone, which is why we tend to use emoticons. Voicethread allows a multimedia conversation so that tone and mood can be identified. It is also a quicker way to communicate, as talking is much easier to do, over writing a text and sending it to someone. VoiceThread can be used on any device, and allows for immediate feedback. It is somewhat like Twitter in that a constant conversation occurs. However, unlike Twitter, VoiceThread is an easier platform to add video, voice, text, and more within a conversation (Voicethread.com, 2016). Follow this link to learn more about the benefits of Voicethread: www.voicethread.com. It shows a video that demonstrates how Voicethread is used and the site’s benefits. This application would be useful in social media training. It could easily be used to collaborate on many different projects by using video, text, images, etc. to put the projects together. Employees could utilize this tool to have a continuous conversation with others, and allows for a more personal connection.
Anyone can use YouTube; people can interact with others and learn about almost anything. In the blogs section, a group from YouTube had an opportunity to meet Pope Francis. The group took a selfie with the Pope and put it in their blog about the meeting. You can see musical artist’s like Straight No Chaser (one of my favorite acapella groups) videos or live broadcast’s. Using videos in the classroom allows educators to open a whole new world of learning. You can also find videos that show you how to do something. For example, have you ever wanted to learn how to correctly post your own videos to YouTube. Using YouTube you can search for video tutorials that will show you step by step how to correctly post a video on YouTube. Also, YouTube can be used to post reviews of things. If you wanted to buy a certain computer you could search YouTube for a review on that computer before you invest money in buying it.
Facebook is one of the most well-known and used social media platform. Users can create groups, connect with individuals, and advertise using Facebook. This platform is very user-friendly and most individuals already have a personal account that they use on a somewhat frequent basis. Facebook can be used to post videos, links to videos, documents, websites, and pictures. Users can also write commentary or pose questions as well as comment on other’s posts and answer questions. Log-in to Facebook.com (if you do not already have an account follow the steps on the website to create an account)/ Next, located the search bar on Facebook and type in a company or organization that interests you, or you can type in a topic or person that interests you. Once you have located a page/profile you would like to view, read through that page and find something to comment on. (Image source: Saunders, N. (2016, July 8) Edutopia on Facebook. [Screen capture].)
To best use social media tools, employees should learn to use the functions of the tools that are common with many different social media sites (Kompen, Monguet, and Brigos, 2015). Doing this will allow users to easily switch from one site to another if the first is deleted or is no longer working. This is important because of technology transience. Technological transience is the process of one social media tool or educational collaboration tool becoming obsolete and something new is created to take its place (Kompen, et al., 2015).
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. will begin using social media to teach and train staff and promote and market products. Training and teaching staff will be made easy and affordable by using social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and VoiceThread. Employees will use social learning environments to interact with other employees and to interact with customers forming communities and providing excellent customer service.
