Background
• School of PT is 8-semester graduate program
• Initially audio-enhanced presentations (AEPs)
used in online program 10 years ago
• Gradually increased use in ground-based
program
• Currently, most courses using some AEPs
• Question: What is student perception of AEPs?

semester; 3 follow-up reminders sent over 1

• Response rate: 69% (145/212)

• 1 in 3 strongly agreed AEP were important to
learning (93% somewhat or strongly agree).
• Most students generally prefer F2F over AEP
• Few students frequently skip AEP (16%)
• 90% state that their learning is enhanced
when watching AEP prior to class
• 4 in 10 students “always watch before
class”, only 3% rarely watch
Time, availability, and redundancy are
main reasons for NOT watching
Keep AEPs to < 20 min!
Future use of AEPs: keep doing
them, but make them better
Watching AEP: laptop best, desktop &
tablet similar but less so
Overall value of AEP: 7.0

  • 3. Background • School of PT is 8-semester graduate program • Initially audio-enhanced presentations (AEPs) used in online program 10 years ago • Gradually increased use in ground-based program • Currently, most courses using some AEPs • Question: What is student perception of AEPs?
  • 4. Survey Demographics • • • • Online survey (SurveyMonkey) Three Regis PT classes (2014, 15 & 16) 17-item survey Invitation to students at end of Fall ‘14 semester; 3 follow-up reminders sent over 1 month • Response rate: 69% (145/212)

  • 6. Most student did not have experience with AEPs prior to Regis
  • 7. Students watch all or most AEPs What percentage of all assigned AEPs this past semester did you watch? 2.1% 0.7% 7.0% 33.6% 100% 75-99% 50-74% 25-49% 0-25% 56.6%
  • 9. Generally positive support for AEPs • 1 in 3 strongly agreed AEP were important to learning (93% somewhat or strongly agree). • Most students generally prefer F2F over AEP • Few students frequently skip AEP (16%) • 90% state that their learning is enhanced when watching AEP prior to class • 4 in 10 students “always watch before class”, only 3% rarely watch
  • 10. Time, availability, and redundancy are main reasons for NOT watching
  • 11. Keep AEPs to < 20 min!
  • 12. Future use of AEPs: keep doing them, but make them better
  • 13. Watching AEP: laptop best, desktop & tablet similar but less so
  • 14. Overall value of AEP: 7.0
