What is an adverb?
• An adverb is a word used to tell more
about a verb, and it almost always
answers the questions: how?, when?,
where?, how often?, and in what
way?.
• The examples of adverbs are slowly,
loudly, carefully, quickly, quietly, sadly
and so on.
• Adverbs usually, but not always, end
in –ly.
An adjective only describes a noun or pronoun whereas an
adverb describes everything else.
• The curious toddler quietly opened the front door.
Curious is an adjective because it is describing the toddler (the noun).
Quietly is the adverb because it is describing how the toddler opened
the door.
