 High-poverty districts receive roughly $1,000 / student
less than low-poverty districts around the country.
 In 16 states high-poverty districts receive less per pupil
than low-poverty districts.

 Most states do not provide significantly more to districts
with higher concentrations of students living in poverty
 Districts don’t systematically ensure equitable funding
across schools and they don’t report it either
 Per-pupil spending data doesn’t tell the whole story—it
needs more interpretation to be useful

  • 19. 18 Resource equity Resource Equity is the allocation and use of resources (people, time, and money) to create student experiences that enable all children to reach empowering, rigorous learning outcomes – no matter their race or income.

  • 21. 20 Districts and States are working to create dashboards that measure these dimensions There are many factors that influence the quality of education, and the distribution of key educational resources won’t show up in spending per pupil. How do these schools compare to the district median? Schools that are high $pp are often under resourced in other areas and have higher need This is sample data that is not representative of any one districts, although at the same time, I’m sure you could see your district having similar stories. In looking at this, we want to highlight that just examining resource equity through $pp can over-simplify the resource equity questions your district is grappling with.
