This document provides an overview of Oracle Advanced Queuing (AQ) internals. It discusses the components of AQ including single consumer queues, queue tables, indexes, views and how they relate. Queue tables store messages and define queue properties. Indexes are created on queue tables for sorting messages. Views provide access to buffered messages and queue metadata.

SQL? NoSQL? NewSQL?!? What's a Java developer to do? - PhillyETE 2012Chris Richardson
The database world is undergoing a major upheaval. NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Cassandra are emerging as a compelling choice for many applications. They can simplify the persistence of complex data models and offering significantly better scalability and performance. But these databases have a very different and unfamiliar data model and APIs as well as a limited transaction model. Moreover, the relational world is fighting back with so-called NewSQL databases such as VoltDB, which by using a radically different architecture offers high scalability and performance as well as the familiar relational model and ACID transactions. Sounds great but unlike the traditional relational database you can’t use JDBC and must partition your data.
In this presentation you will learn about popular NoSQL databases – MongoDB, and Cassandra – as well at VoltDB. We will compare and contrast each database’s data model and Java API using NoSQL and NewSQL versions of a use case from the book POJOs in Action. We will learn about the benefits and drawbacks of using NoSQL and NewSQL databases.
EclipseCon - Building an IDE for Apache CassandraMichaël Figuière
Apache Cassandra is a distributed, scalable and highly available database used in many large scale infrastructures in companies such as Netflix, eBay, Instagram or Spotify. It comes with a SQL-like query language that reduces its learning curve, but in order to allow developers to have a similar productivity as with traditional RDBMS, several tools are required.
DataStax DevCenter is a standalone IDE built on top of the Eclipse RCP Platform, that makes it easier to create data models and scripts for Cassandra. It relies on Xtext to bring a modern editor with content assist, syntax highlighting, cross references, instant validation and quick fixes. Besides that, in order to build a sophisticated UI while keeping the codebase simple, e4 has been leveraged for dependency injection and event dispatching.
This presentation will provide an overview of the design challenges that we've faced and our experience putting together all these technologies.
This summer, coming to a server near you, Cassandra 3.0! Contributors and committers have been working hard on what is the most ambitious release to date. It’s almost too much to talk about, but we will dig into some of the most important, ground breaking features that you’ll want to use. Indexing changes that will make your applications faster and spark jobs more efficient. Storage engine changes to get even more density and efficiency from your nodes. Developer focused features like full JSON support and User Defined Functions. And finally, one of the most requested features, Windows support, has made it’s arrival. There is more, but you’ll just have to some see for yourself. Get your front row seat and don’t miss it!

SQL Server is able to service requests from a large number of concurrent users. When SQL Server is servicing requests from many clients, there is a strong possibility that conflicts will occur because different processes request access to the same resources at the same time. A conflict in which one process is waiting for another to release a resource is called a block. Although in SQL Server a blocked process usually resolves itself when the first process releases the resource but there are times when a process holds a transaction lock and doesn't release it. In this tip, we will learn different techniques to troubleshoot and resolve blocks in SQL Server.

AWS October Webinar Series - Getting Started with AWS IoTAmazon Web Services
AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that lets connected devices easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices.
In this webinar, we will discuss how constrained devices can leverage AWS IoT to send data to the cloud and receive commands back to the device from the cloud using protocol of their choice. We will discuss how devices can securely connect using MQTT and HTTP protocols, and how developers and businesses can leverage features of AWS IoT like Thing Shadows and Rules Engine to build a real connected product.
Tutorial about the Lightweight Machine-to-Machine (LWM2M) standard developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). The tutorial was primarily given to participants from the IETF ACE working group.

Simon Lemay and Hannes Tschofenig gave a tutorial about the Lightweight Machine-to-Machine (LWM2M) standard developed by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) to participants from the IETF ACE working group.
LWM2M offers several features that are relevant for Internet of Things security and also for the work in the IETF ACE working group, such as: Software Updates, Distribution of keys and access control policies (during a process called bootstrapping in the specification), Remote Device and Application, Configuration, and Diagnostics.
In summary, LWM2M is a device lifecycle management solution that builds on IETF protocols designed to be lightweight, such as CoAP, various CoAP extensions (such as Resource Directory), and DTLS.
The slide deck should give you an idea what we have been talking about.

Your tuning arsenal: AWR, ADDM, ASH, Metrics and AdvisorsJohn Kanagaraj
Oracle Database 10g brought in a slew of tuning and performance related tools and indeed a new way of dealing with performance issues. Even though 10g has been around for a while, many DBAs haven’t really used many of the new features, mostly because they are not well known or understood. In this Expert session, we will look past the slick demos of the new tuning and performance related tools and go “under the hood”. Using this knowledge, we will bypass the GUI and look at the views and counters that matter and quickly understand what they are saying. Tools covered include AWR, ADDM, ASH, Metrics, Tuning Advisors and their related views. Much of information about Oracle Database 10g presented in this paper has been adapted from my book and I acknowledge that with gratitude to my publisher - SAMS (Pearson).

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
