Odour Of Chrysanthemums And The Rocking-Horse Winner
Short stories have been around for many years. D.H. Lawrence has wrote many stories. Two of
his stories are Odour of Chrysanthemums and The rocking horse winner . There are several
differences and similarities between the two stories. The similarities and differences between the
two stories are with the characters, theme and imagery. Overall, the two stories were very similar
with differences in details. The primary theme of both stories is love. In both of his stories, there
is an issue with the mother s lack of love. In addition to love, D.H. Lawrence centered both stories
on family dynamics. The theme is on the interaction and relationship amongst family members. In
both stories, the mother struggled to with love. Though the mother in Odour of Chrysanthemums
appeared to have loved and cared for her children, she felt cold about her unborn child. The
mother in The rocking horse winner felt no love for all of her children. In the both stories, the
father did not play an active role, but he is discussed. The fathers appeared to be working a lot.
Even with the fathers being employed there were still concerns about money for both mothers.
Additionally, both stories appeared to have similar settings. Mostly... Show more content on

In Odour of Chrysanthemums , the mother realizes that she does not have the love for her
husband she should. Lawrence states, There had been nothing between them, and yet they had
come together exchanging their nakedness repeatedly (p.799 800). Then referring to her unborn
child, In her womb was ice of fear, because of this separate stranger with whom she had been
living as one flesh (p799). In The Rocking Horse Winner D.H. Lawrence writes, Only she herself
knew that at the center of her heart was hard little place that could not feel love, no, not for
anybody (pg. 801). She did not love anyone she loved money. Her son Paul obsessed with

Hamlet s Existential Crisis
When looking at Hamlet, one could say that William Shakespeare put the play together as a very
cathartic tragedy. The emotional result of dealing with so many deaths brings on a plethora of
emotions which are not usually felt in a typical play. Hamlet begins not with the normal
prosperity and good fortune as do most tragedies, but with a more stifling and depressing sort of
mood (Tekany 115). However, something else could be said about this play as well. The play
centers on Hamletand his existential characteristics, such as angst, isolation and his confrontations
with nothingness. The exhibition of these characteristics proves Hamlet to be an existential
character. The idea of Hamlet s father s (King Hamlet of Denmark) passing is what begins the cycle
of existential thoughts and feelings within him. From the conflict raging inside Hamlet, stemming
from the loss of his father, blooms the beginnings of a bigger, overall existential conflict that soon
leads to his cathartic downfall. He visits places filled with nothingness and abhorrence with a sense
of frailty and pulsating frustration. Hamlet s existential crisis begins with the death of his father
and the remarrying of his mother. At this point, for Hamlet, the questions start pouring in; to be or
not to be (Hamlet 3.1.57), and so on. From questioning his existence and fighting with himself
about the purpose of his life begins to show the beginnings of the existential crisis that is soon to
consume him. Also, this

Compare And Contrast Atrahasis And Evan Almighty
Atrahasis and the movie Evan Almighty both describe floods that are forewarned by a god.
Both discuss the stories of men warned by a god and require them to build a boat that will help
them escape the perils of a flood. However, these stories are different because of the reason for the
flood, how they are told of the flood, and what the flood actually consists of. The movie Evan
Almightydraws from the story of flood in the Bible. In the movie, Godbegins to foreshadow to
Evan that he will have a larger purpose, until he directly tells Evan that there will be a flood. God
foreshadows this to Evan by sending him materials and directions on how to build an ark. Evan at
first is very uncomfortable with the idea of a flood and building an ark, but then he gains
confidence in his mission and builds the ark, even though he is mocked by people around him.
However, the flood ends up being a misconstrued dam that breaks and floods his new, expensive
community. A huge wave from the dam swallows his neighborhood and brings him directly to the
cause of the misconstrued dam.
The beliefs of gods in each story are very different. Mainly because in Atrahasis there is a presence
of multiple gods but in Evan Almighty the story is surrounded by the idea of a monotheistic version
of God. In Atrahasis, there are many gods mentioned, including the three high gods and the lesser
gods beneath them. This a huge difference, especially when it comes to the storyline. In Atrahasis,
there are multiple

Analysis Of Unwind By Neal Lassiter
Although the population of the world is upwards of seven billion people, society is still an
extremely unwelcoming place for people struggling with their lives. Important figures such as
Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., or Abraham Lincoln stood up for issues like slavery, peace, and
racism that no other person would care about. Even with the incredible advances they made in
humanity though, there are still an unbelievable amount of conflicts between races, gender, and
overall acceptance in today s world. People are idly standing by as the world crumbles away, but
some people such as social activists are trying to make a difference like Connor Lassiter. In
Unwind, by Neal Shusterman, the main protagonist, Connor Lassiter, was a disgrace to his
parents through his misbehaviour in school. He became an Unwind, who would be taken apart to
serve as replacement body parts along with many others his age. While many others were
accepting it as their fate, Connor fought back. He stood up to Unwinding himself and also brought
other Unwind s voices together to form a powerful stance. His will to simply exist empowered
other Unwinds and ultimately changed their society forever, saving thousands to Unwinds to come.
In the spur of the moment, Connor decides not to surrender to the police, but instead grabs a
hostage. Connor s whole life turns upside down as he becomes a criminal and goes on the run.
Although he was brought to the harvest camp and was about to die, explosions went off

Energy Audit Paper
We all use energy in multiple ways and for many different reasons. We use energy to heat and cool
our homes, to run our automobiles, to stay connected, and illuminate our lives. The average US
residential utility customer in 2014 used 911 kWh per month, or 10,932 kWh a year (Frequently
Asked Questions, 2015). In order to find out just how and where energyis consumed within a home
one must conduct and energy audit. In this assignment an energy audit of my residential home will
be completed. My home is a single story, detached home with 1942 sqft. It is home to two young
children and three adults. This residential audit will examine twenty different items throughout the
home that have an effect on the energy consumed. This residence is an all electric... Show more

This energy audit showed home this residence compares to residence as well as twenty different
areas within the home that consume energy. I believe the averages on the chart above are pretty
accurate. The amount of energy used over a year period on the WREC bills totaled 22,559 kWh
(Monthly Electric Bill, 2014 2015). The total amount of energy accounted for in the home audit was
22,178 kWh. In assignment series 3 we will use the information from this audit to recommend

The War Was Ended As An Armistice Of The Great War
On the 18th of November 1918, the guns fell silent, the Great War was ended as an Armistice was
signed with Germany. Two months later in January 1919, delegates from all over the world came
to Paris to conclude the peace settlement that would end the war. Six months of intense discussions
and debates ended up on the signing of Treaty of Versailles. Three major figures dominated the
peace making, with the less noticeable presence of a forth one, that are namely: the American
president Wilson, the French Prime Minister Clemenceau, and the British Prime Minister Lloyd
Georges and the passive Italy personified by the Prime Minister Orlando. Those peacemakers are
seen by many (scholars, historians, politics...) as injudicious and dogmatic. They were also
perceived as vindictive with respect to the fate they have reserved to Germany. But on the other
hand many historians and scholars revisited the series of events that took place at Paris in 1919
and challenge the view that this peace was a truncated one. These authors argue that the Peace
conference was a real attempt to reshape the international system with an innovative concept
breaking with the old balance of power that presided over Europe s destiny for over a century. The
peacemakers faced dilemmas that still hold a grip on the world today (the ethnic nationalism issue).
Albeit the Peace of Versailles showed many flaws and imprecision regarding the actions to take
within the framework of the collective security, it

World Religion Report Buddhism
Buddhism originated in the early Fifth century BCE, from the teachings of Siddhartha Buddha
(Fisher, 2005). Plagued by the desire to help end human suffering, Buddha reached a state of pure
enlightenment showing him the way to end earthly suffering. Through meditation, people can
control the desires of their human nature. By gaining control of our desires we can end our
suffering. He taught his wisdom to all that wanted to learn. After his death, three main forms of
Buddhism emerged; there was the Theravada s, the Mahayana s, and the Zen Buddhists (Fisher,
2005). For the sake of this report, the local Buddhist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One particular woman was quick to respond by saying it has brought so much peace into her life.
She had been raised Catholic, but said she struggled with the everyday practices and the guilt of
knowing she could never overcome her sins. She found it hard to pray every day to the saints for
help and never felt like she was a better person. A friend of hers introduced her to Buddhism and she
found with Buddhism she was able to help herself with meditation (personal communication,

At this point Kelsang Chandra entered the room, after making her tea we began talking. She
began by asking me how I found the Center, I told her through the internet. I was informed that
many students come to the center for school projects so she was happy to assist me as well. I
first started by asking about the offerings left on alters, since Buddha is just a man. They said it
was left there out of respect and giving thanks for guidance received. When asked about
reconnecting with our past lives, she stated that our minds are too cloudy to know of other
existences. Kelsang Chandra stated, though they do believe in reincarnation and that when this

The Maoree Culture Of Traditional Maori Culture In The...
The characters in the film Whale Rider choose how they will incorporate traditional Maori
culture into their modern life. Whale Rider is set in a small New Zealand coastal village
inhabited by Maoris who claim descent from Paikea, the Whale Rider. For 1,000 years a male
heir of the Chief has become leader of the tribe. At the beginning of the film, the wife of
Porourangi, the Chief s eldest son, dies in childbirth along with the male twin she was carrying.
The surviving child, a girl, is given the name of Pai, the traditional name given to the male child.
Porourangi is grief stricken and departs for Europe, leaving Pai to be brought up by her
grandparents, Koro and Nanny Flowers. Koro loves Pai, but won t accept her as Chief. He is
convinced that the troubles of the tribe are attributable to Pai aspiring to be leader. He tries
unsuccessfully to train the other boys in the tribe for the role. Far out at sea a school of whales
respond to Pai s calls for guidance. They swim to the village but become beached. Symbolically the
tribe will die. Only Pai is willing to make the sacrifice to save her people, and because of this Koro
accepts her leadership. Koro refuses to accept Pai as leader despite her repeatedly showing
herself to be more capable than any of the boys. We see her challenging the old ways, and
undertaking the gruelling demands of traditional warrior practice. It is she who goes into the sea
to bring back Koro s prize possession. The casting of

The Murder Of The Murdered Or Suicide Victims
Rationale:
Over the years I have been consistently watching the TV show Bones . In this TV show the main
protagonist is a forensic anthropologist..... Most of the TV shows I have watched over the years
have always had a forensic scientist, or forensic anthropologist. It has always been fascinating how
the forensic analysts could deduce the exact time when a person was murdered to the correct hour
and most times to the correct minute. In each of these TV shows there were three main ways on
how the protagonists determined the time of death of the murdered or suicide victims. The three
ways were rigor mortis, algor mortis, and entomology. Using these methods they had conclusive
results on how the person was murdered and when the person was murdered.
Introduction:
Forensic science is the application of science to criminal and civil laws. Forensic scientists collect,
preserve, and analyses scientific evidence during the course of an investigation. It is used in
multiple scenarios regarding criminal cases, but in the following investigation it will be used to
determine the time of death of people. There are three major methods of determining the time of
death of the deceased: Forensic Entomology, Algor Mortis, and Rigor Mortis.
Forensic entomology is used when forensic entomologists study the bugs found on the deceased to
estimate the time of death. Algor mortis is the change in body temperature following death. This is
generally a steady decline until matching the

The world of technology is ever changing and advancing. With the automotive industry in play
technology is constantly surpassing what is available today with what can be done for tomorrow.
Technology and the automotive industry go hand in hand with constant improvement to
components of cars. Due to technology advancement there is competition within the car industry,
especially between American car companies and European car companies. European car companies
provide their buyers with innovative variety and revolutionary luxuries. European car technology is

This exclusive system adds safety to European cars such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi.
This Active Braking feature is one of the many components which make European cars superior
to American cars. Blind spot detection is also a feature that is exclusive to the European
automotive engineering brands. Compared to American car companies, European cars come
standard with this option, while in American cars this feature is not always an option and is an
added feature that must be requested. This is an important feature which provides guaranteed
safety to drivers all over the world. It can assist drivers with parking and notifies them of unseen
cars and objects which may cause accidents. When outboard mirrors and a clear view out the rear
window fail to provide the full picture necessary for passing and merging, blind spot monitors are
the next best thing. Using sensors or lenses to detect the presence of other vehicles directly to the
car s sides, visual and/or auditory warnings clue the driver in, in the hope of avoiding a crash.
Unlike active safety monitoring systems that prevent vehicle action that violates the warning, most
blind spot detection systems are helpful suggestions to drivers, and can be overridden (http:/

Taking a Look at Nuclear Meltdowns
Nuclear Meltdowns Everyone knows what it feels like waking up certain that a bad day is about
to begin. Perhaps the alarm clock didn t go off because of a power surge. Maybe the lights dim
when the hair dryer turns on, or a hurricane has knocked the power lines down and electricity can
t be bad. These scenarios are nothing compared to the day when a nuclear meltdown has occurred.
A really bad day is one when the power fails, followed by water contamination, followed by a
disruption in food distribution.
Chaos occurs, there is a collapse of law and order, fires emerge and looting begins. The INEPC,
NNSA, Office of Policy and International Affairs, Office of the General Counsel, and the
Department of Energy should provide more protective guidelines in place to prevent nuclear
accidents. There are about a dozen key agencies globally that work together to manage and regulate
the nuclear industry. The Institute for Security and Conflicts Studies cooperates with the
Security Policy Forum. The International Nuclear Energy Policy and Cooperation
(INEPC) works closely with the Department of Energy s National Nuclear Security
Administration (NNSA) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to watch over the
commercial nuclear power plants. Every country involved with nuclear energy has its own
committees and agencies that must report. The INEPC and NNSA Office of Policy and

Government Regulation Essay
Government Regulation
Throughout history there have been many different opinions about government regulation. Some
believe the government regulates business too much others feel that the government does not do
enough. I believe the government is regulating business far too much and furthermore putting
businesses out of business and causing many workers to lose jobs. In this paper I will point out the
common problems dealing with government regulation. I will also focus on three major aspects of
government regulation which include: 1) regulation interferes with production by halting
innovation and discouraging risk taking, resulting in declining employment, 2) government over
regulates by setting standards for every aspect of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all of the cases of 1970 the Congress chose to regulate instead of the alternatives; court penalties
for polluters, tax penalties for employers with poor safety records, or government funded
information programs. If the health and safety regulators were created in response to nonexistent
crises, it is not surprising they have made little impact on morality rates. (Crickmer 1980) Sam
Peltzman, University of Chicago economist, did a cost benefit analysis of the drug regulations that
followed the thalidomide tragedy in Europe. In his analysis he focused on the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) which is alike the older single industry regulators and some of its problems
are typical of most health and safety regulation. He found that the new drug laws were costing far
more than the benefits achieved. In Britain more lives were being saved than in the U.S. due to the
fewer restrictions on new drugs unlike the U.S. which have conservative policies towards new
drugs. Regulation interferes with production and halts innovation and risk taking resulting in
declining employment. This is to say, because of regulation costs, the businesses do not have
enough money to invest in taking risks with new ideas and technology. This does not allow the
company to expand and hire more workers. Regulation over regulates by setting standards for every

The Quiet Kids Research Paper
Introverts in School: The Quiet Kids Every person is different, and each of us has different
personalities. An actor, for example, generally feels alive when they are preforming in front of
people, while a computer programer perhaps feels more comfortable when working in solitude.
Some teachers have a natural empathy that allows them to care for their students, and an author s
imagination allows them to weave together stories that transport people to new worlds.
Psychologists have been studying these differences in personality for centuries and have divided
personality into five different traits. These traits are known as the Big Five. The Big Five
personality traits included in the theory are: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness,
openness, and neuroticism (Rentfrow np). In other words, these traits describe your level of
sociability and enthusiasm, your level of friendliness and kindness, your level of organization and
work ethic, your level of creativity and curiosity, and your level of calmness and tranquility
(Rentfrow np). By using these terms, the aforementioned actor would be high in extroversion;
however, the opposite would be true for the computer programer. The teachers described would rank
high in agreeableness, while authors would rank high in openness. Understanding these distinctions

The Voyages Of The Slave Trade Voyages
Other risks that affected the slave trade voyage, indirectly to investors while directly to the ship
owner, captain and others aboard included natural disasters due to weather and navigation,
attacks by pirates or competing trading countries, slave rebellions, and diseases as mentioned
before. The weather and natural disasters is not widely cited as a great risk to these voyages.
Nonetheless, it is imperative in the analysis if we are trying to capture a complete picture of the
supply line of slaves to the colonies. At the very start of the trade in 1514, voyages only crossed
the Southern Atlantic Ocean, but as the trade grew by 1650, and slaves started to be shipped to
North America and some to Europe, as shown in figure 2, captains also had to face the rough
conditions that came with sailing the northern Atlantic Ocean (Slave voyages, 2014)
Figure 2. This table shows the destination of the voyages from the beginning of the trade, until it
was abolished. Notice that slaves were not shipped farther north until later in the slave trade,
starting with the British Caribbean and moving north. (Slaves Embarked Table, 2014)
While crossing the Atlantic, fears of being attacked by pirates, or taken over by a Spanish ship
were very real (Eltis et al., 2010). The reasons for such attacks are clear; the ships transported
valuable goods (slaves, among other goods such as gold and ivory) and was very vulnerable in the
middle of the ocean, with only a small crew aboard to defend it.

A Case Study On South Florida Real Estate
7.A Case Study
Let s imagine you have to sell a rather expensive condo in Hallandale Beach, Florida, which is
essentially a middle class town right north of Miami with a splash of a luxury building here or
there, and you happen to have this property for sale in one of those luxury buildings with the
market price more than twice the average price around town. So, it is hard to think that a local
interest would be extremely high, plus you know that a neighbor s apartment has been sitting on the
market with a local real estate agent for a while without a good and solid offer, plus there is a bit
of an issue with some banks to approve mortgages for this building. It is really time to think of
reaching foreign investors in South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake
The first sentence of a novel, even a chapter, needs to leave a first impression. Jhumpa Lahiri in
her novel The Namesake wields the first sentence in each of her chapters, so they build through her
book in a far more significant way than just a first impression. Lahiri uses the first sentence of
every chapter to further the plot development by clearly setting new scenes to transition to the new
setting and sub purpose of the next chapter. To successfully set her scenes, she uses varying Syntax
and rhetorical tools including imagery, short syntax with a focus, and grammatical mistakes. Of
the different ways Lahiri sets her scenes, the first sentences that provide the most context are the
ones that employ imagery and have a long syntax structure. Lahiri takes advantage of these
sentences when the book is currently in a place with minimal conflict and the mood of the book
is new and very different from what it was previously. The main goal is to develop what is
currently a clean slate. The cleanest slate being the first chapter, which starts on a sticky August
evening two weeks before her due date, Ashima Ganguli stands in the kitchen of a Central Square
apartment, combining Rice Krispies and Planters peanuts and chopped red onion in a bowl
(Lahiri 1). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and how, which covers almost all
the basic context. The reader can now understand the scene, so the author could start describing
actions going on in the scene. Another clean slate in The Namesake is the chapter after Gogol and
Monshumi s wedding, and they attend a dinner party. Lahiri ends that section and it shifts to their
anniversary; On the morning of their first anniversary, Monshumi s parents call, waking them,
wishing them a happy anniversary before they ve had the chance to say it to each other (246).
This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and why, which sets a completely new scene.
The long syntax allows for Lahiri to provide all this information, so the reader can start picturing
the scene. In turn, this strategy creates a very solid transition to a completely different place and
point of view to focus on. On the other hand, Lahiri uses short syntax with a very particular focus to
start

Critical Book Review of Slaughterhouse Five
In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut explains his experience of the World War II bombing of
Dresden, Germany. Vonnegut s creative antiwar novel shows the audience the hardships of the life
of a soldier through his writing technique. Slaughterhouse Five is written circularly, and time travel
is ironically the only consistency throughout the book. Vonnegut outlines the life of Billy Pilgrim,
whose life and experiences are uncannily similar to those of Vonnegut. In Chapter 1, Kurt Vonnegut
non fictionally describes his intentions for writing the book. Vonnegut personally experienced the
destruction of Dresden, and explains how he continuously tried to document Dresden but was
unsuccessful for twenty three years after the war. Vonnegut let

He has situated the book in a fashion that it is not chronological, has isn t linear, is fictional and non
fictional, and maintains the same satirical voice throughout. The style makes the reader think there
is no plot line, and that Vonnegut is freelance writing, however his work was greatly thought out,
for twenty three years actually. Vonnegut s constant confusion about the war and circular thoughts
left few options for techniques in which he could tell his story.
To portray the story clearly would have been virtually impossible, since the author himself didn t
even know the answers to his questions, so he approached it in a unique way. This organization, or
assumed lack thereof by the audience, indicates strongly Vonneguts deep confusion about life and
death, and his juggling with ideas over the concepts.
At some points in the story Vonnegut changes from third person to first person, indicating that he
was among the soldiers. When the paths of Billy and the narrator meet up at Dresden, there is a
brief period of person shift. The narrator uses В‘us and В‘we , simply because Vonnegut is there
too. Charles B. Harries, who wrote, Time, Uncertainty, and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.: A Reading of
В‘Slaughterhouse Five explains the person change as this: He [Vonnegut], too, had suffered capture
and malnutrition and the devastating firebombing. He, too, worked in the corpse mines and saw a

The Stereotypes Of The American Man
Introduction
Growing up in America, we have been subjected to countless acts of gender stereotypes on
television, newspapers, and advertisements. The American man is visualized as someone who is
carefree, muscular, and lacks any type of emotion. This fantastik advertisement s purpose is to
challenge these stereotypes and makes us reevaluate the way we look at men and women.
According to America s standards, women are supposed to prepare meals for their family along
with cleaning and other household duties. Ever since the first colonies were established in
America, men were seen as the backbone of it all. While the women were at home taking care of
the children and household duties such as cooking and cleaning, men were hard at work plowing ...

It demonstrates that this is a new era where men are just as responsible for doing these chores
along with women. Women no longer have to be the primary caretakers of the children; they are
able to receive degrees and obtain a job of their choosing. A female may even feel a sense of
empowerment upon looking at this ad, knowing that she is capable of anything.
This advertisement could also be aimed towards a group of males that enjoy activities that are seen
as feminine in our society. Unfortunately, our society molds men into these arrogant beings that
only care for football and women. If you do not comply with these current trends, then you are
considered an outcast or commonly known as girly. This ad is allowing men to express their true
identities, even though it goes against society s standards of normal. The man within the ad appears
to be breaking numerous gender stereotypes such as smiling, cooking, and dressing somewhat
feminine. So, what if a man shows happiness or the fact he loves to cook. At least he is
comfortable enough to show his true colors while so many hide behind a mask just to fit in.
Layout and Color Variation
This advertisement uses a very distinct layout and color variation that is key to attracting a
possible consumer. Upon first glance the first image that pops out at the reader is the male in the
green shirt. One can infer the man is the focus of the advertisement because he located very close to
the center of the advertisement

Key factors that influence success of NIKE
If a company is able to establish brand awareness, they will have a significant advantage in grabbing
consumer s attention and, therefore, market share. In today s society where consumers have
significantly less time to shop and compare, brand awareness is critical. If an established brand
name effectively conveys the messages of quality and dependability, consumers will automatically
go to that brand relying on the image that has been created when they don t have time to shop
around. Manufacturing efficiency is something that companies are constantly striving for as well.
Athletic shoe manufacturers must balance the costs of labor, raw materials, shipping, import tariffs,
and technological advancements. In an effort to keeps costs down, the industry has been looking to
overseas sourcing. This reduces the risk of losing revenue if one region which a manufacturer incurs
problems. Favorable legislation regarding foreign manufacturing has led to a huge increase in
foreign sourcing. Overseas production and sourcing can lower material, and labor costs. The
footwear companies must choose their distribution channels carefully because they want to make
the product available, yet remain true to their image and goals. Retailers account for the largest
percentage of sales, so manufacturers must be especially careful with their relationships with them.

Government Interventions are Failing
IntroductionAround the world, governments, mostly intervenes in the market in order to
accomplish their policy objectives. The government s policy objectives or goals could be related to
economics, ranging from stabilization of prices, export promoting, encourage equal distributions for
income and commodity protection. The examples as per above proves that government intervention
is not only limited to economic effects but also influences the society. There are two (2) types of
usual regulated government interventions, which are automatic and discretionary. Automatic can be
defined as intervention which is based on rules and regulations. On the other side, government
interventions which are discretionary mostly targets stopping, suspension or limitation of a certain
contract market. An early review of government market interventions shows that discretionary based
interventions usually fails in accomplishing targeted policy objective compared to interventions
based on rules as the latter proves to be more successful in a market economy. At the same time,
discretionary interventions give results that are undesired and this could be quite damaging to the
government. The harmfulness in this aspect can be defined as total impact on those involved in
either marketing or producing commodities.
Government Intervention in the Markets Some of the reasons which cause government
interventions are in order to overcome market failure, to accomplish an equal distribution

Glenn Frey, the co founder of the Eagles, was a middle class kid living in the midwest. He dreamed
of acquiring tremendous wealth in Los Angeles, but later realized that there are more important
things than money. In their song, Hotel California, originally titled Mexican Reggae, they (The
Eagles) express this idea to their audience through lyrics that convey the idea that there are more
important things than just possessions, and there are negatives to the American Dream. The
audience in this could be the average person, yet, the rhetorical devices in The EaglesHotel

Analysis Of The Really Big One By Kathryn Schulz

at any moment and no one would be prepared for it emotionally or physically. She explains to
everyone that within the years the natural disasters are getting stronger than they were before the

shore... how long we have, and what we will do before geological times catch up to our own
(Schulz 11). Schulz is saying that people don t have an idea when the catastrophe happens, but
some people are working, try to find when the next earthquake or tsunami will strike again. The
time is ticking for us while the water level in the ocean increases and decreases at this moment. The
author shows us that we need to get ready in case of any danger. It gives them more education about
earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.. Schulz demonstrates that we are not prepared to even think about it.
As a result of global warming, the natural disasters are gaining strength and are showing us that we

catastrophe happens. Schulz claims that with the use of imagery, people would be able to imagine
the disaster going on in real life but also in their minds. According to Schulz, Take your hands and

Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark
Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine
Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions
with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater
good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both
speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In
Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction,
imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker
and the animals.
In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the
animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be
killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious
slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are
beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative
connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy
to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Objects
associated with the word heap are items of little to no significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of
diction

Reliability in Smart Grids
In many areas of the United States, the only way a utility knows there s an outage is when a
customer calls to report it. A challenge faced by smart grid systems is to provide highly reliable
transmission to improve the energy efficiency of the system. If a proper command couldn t be send
in the event of an emergency it could result in disastrous consequences. As a result, quantitative
reliability evaluation of information infrastructures should be addressed.
A smart grid is a modernized electrical grid that uses analogues or digital information and
communications technology to gather and act on information, such as information about the
behaviors of suppliers and consumers, in an automated fashion to improve the efficiency, reliability,
economics, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity.
To provide the reliability of data communication of smart grids we are proposing wireless
communication infrastructure. In this paper we will discuss pros and cons along with the
applicability of wired, wireless and hybrid communication systems for the smart grid application.
For reliability we have to optimize both power consumption and power supply. Smart grid works on
the mechanism of data communication infrastructure. Smart grids has one of the most important
feature meter data management system which is designed to collect exchange and process the
meter data for optimization of power consumption and supply.

Emotion Regulation in Infants Essay
Emotion regulation involves intrinsic and extrinsic processing of monitoring and modifying
emotional reactions in both positive or negative situations (Martins, 2012). In order for individuals
to have the ability to regulate emotions, they must beware of their emotions. Although infants are
unaware and lack the ability to regulate their emotions, it then becomes the role of a primary carer
to nurture the infant, thus acting as a model for regulating emotions. Evidently, infants grow to
reflect the ways in which their carers control and modify their emotions as well as social
boundaries. Furthermore, emotionregulationis considered an important aspect of an individuals life

What is emotion regulation in infants 0 4?
The regulation of emotions within adults is considerably more complex than within an infant.
However, this does not mean that infants do not share the same feelings as adults do. Infant
emotion regulation is evidently derived from their primary carers. Empirical research supports idea
as stated by Diener (et al, 2002) whereby the study conducted involved infants completing a strange
situations procedure, this explored the connection between mother infant relationship and the
behavioural strategies used by infants for emotion regulation. Therefore, behavioural strategies used
by infants including self soothing, withdrawal and self distraction with objects is when it is clear
that infants have the ability to control and monitor their emotions (Martins, 2012; Diener et al.,
2002). These strategies are supported through various studies conducted by Martins (2012) as they
explore infants who are able to cope with their emotions obtain certain strategies which contribute
to their ability to regulate their behaviour for example using distractions. Evidently, this shows the
development of infant emotion regulation skills (Diener et al, 2002). Moreover, infants experience
a range of emotions in numerous frustrating situations, including some as simple as waiting to be
fed or sitting in a car seat waiting to go out. It is from this that infants become more aware of their
emotions and begin to find ways of coping

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate
reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or
concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let
the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and
bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President
Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that
it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the
Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of
combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished.
Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders
that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich
history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and
dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E.
Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of
the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor,
this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and
fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War
and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a
broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a
man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own,
infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality

Information Technology Systems, Their Performance And Risk...
According to Richard Brisebois, Greg Boyd, and Ziad Shadid, IT Governance focuses specifically
on information technology systems, their performance and risk management. The primary goals of
IT Governance are to assure that the investments in IT generate business value, and to mitigate the

well defined roles for the responsibility of information, business processes, applications, and

Courage In Amelia Earhart
Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no
release from little things. Amelia Earhart. Life is not meant for the meek. It is not meant to be
lived in a box or in a comfort zone. As Amelia Earhart so eloquently put it, it takes courage to
experience peace in this life. I have had to embody that as I follow my dreams and fight for my
goals. My goal is to be a pediatric genetic counselor. To accomplish this goal, I have had to use
courage to face adversity, step outside my comfort zone, and strive for what I want. You can t just
sit back and wait for what you want. It s not enough to just say you want something and go
through the motions. You have to fiercely and actively seek out what you want and prove that you
are the best choice. It may not always work out in your favor, but it is better to fail then to never
try at all.
The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of
fear. Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned.
Very rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes
you will fail. You will be told you weren t the best choice or you were good, but just not what
they were looking for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the
best teacher. Failure makes you stronger and builds you up to be the best you can. It can be

Impacts Of Sustainability On Business
This essay examines the impact of sustainability on business. A sustainable system generally can be

How Is India The Rising Regional And Global Power
India: The rising regional and global power
Military cultural awareness can be defined as knowledge of cultural factors and the comprehension
of their impact on the planning and conduct of military operations. It reduces battlefield friction and
improves a unit s ability to accomplish its mission by giving insight into the intent of various actors
within our battlespace and the way these actors interact within groups, supporting planners in
developing centers of gravity to ascertain critical vulnerabilities and assisting in campaign planning
and the proper allocation of resources. This paper will discuss the Russian culture to help us better

Russians are currently involved in three conflicts to include Syria, Ukraine and the North Caucasus.
Economic Variable: Russias economy is largely based on the production of oil, natural gas and
metals like steel and aluminum. Swings in global prices on these exported goods make the
economy vulnerable to boom and bust cycles. Although Russia underwent a 2 year recession
from 2014 to 2016, the global growth and trade started to strengthen at the end of 2016 with the
economy showing a sign of overcoming the recession that was caused by the shocks of low oil
prices and economic sanctions. The economy is mostly based on a market based system after the
collapse of the Soviet Union. With a high concentration of wealth in officials hands due to a mostly
privatized industry with notable exceptions in the energy, transportation, banking, and defense
related sectors.
Social Variable: Russia s ethnic groups are mostly homogenous while having small groups of
Tatars and Ukrainian mixed into the population of over 142 million people. Most of the
population is made up of non believers as far as religion goes due to a long Soviet rule followed
by Orthodox at 20 percent and Muslim at 15 percent of the population. Russia has a high life

African American Ministry Research Paper
These are the issue that the modern African American pastor must address currently. His/Her
preaching must speak true, authentic words for the oppressed, the down trodden, the deprived,
the captives, the poor, the rich, the illiterate, as well as to the intellect. Presently, the hostile
moment of worldliness is a belief that life is to be realized at any cost to self. Thus, here lies the
Christian paradox: through the Gospel we have to see Jesus as a truth relevant to humanity s need
to rise higher. The Gospel is to be preached to all. It is a Gospel to save the humanity of African
Americanpeople but the gospel is beneficial for all. Therefore, the African American preacher s
message must have within its content something more than that which causes the people to enter in
a foot patting, hand clapping, highly emotional, ecstatic worldly experience, but also a content
which serves to balance the life of God s people on earth.

These systems historically have been fragmented and inadequate causing program ineffectiveness
and personal stress among pastors. The degree to which the African American pastors are effective
is crucial to the health of the church. Pastors with strong support systems based upon sound
theology, spiritual disciplines, management training, insurance systems, and outplacement services,
have a better chance of producing strong effective ministries, as compared to unhealthy leaders
producing unhealthy, ineffective leadership. Not only can ineffective leadership cause by certain
types of stress and stressors produce poor ministries, but it can also produce unhealthy people living
unhealthy doctrines. These issues have a spiritual effect on the pastors. These choices may lead to

My Hero As A Hero
Growing up we all have our heroes, and I was no different. I grew up in a family who loved
superheroes and all things nerdy, so I was obviously exposed to that aspect of a hero at a young
age. But I also grew up watching Animal Planet and with a father who is an animal behaviorist.
So ever since I was very young I was surrounded by animals and was fascinated by anyone who
worked with them. Because of this the two most prominent heroes I remember from my
childhood were both complete opposites, but still inspired me and influenced my growing up and
even who I am today. The heroes of my childhood are no less my heroes now that I have grown
up. Add how they are still your heroes
My cousins were obsessed with all things comic books, so of course (even with me being the
only girl in the family) the second I could read they began to lend me comics and as soon as my
parents allowed me to, they made me sit through a superhero movie marathon. They were always
obsessed with Superman, Thor, Spiderman, Batman and all the other very mainstream superheroes.
Which there is no problem with those heroes, I was just a little girl who wanted to see another
girl be a superhero, because I was sick of having to sit through all the guy superhero movies with
all my guy cousins. Which is why when I first heard of her, Batgirl quickly became my favorite
superhero. I don t remember when I first found out about her, but I remember how much I came to
admire her and how much I wanted to read every comic

Social Security And Health Insurance Program
At its initiation in 1965, Medicare expected to provide health insurance to Americans age 65 and
older and to younger people with certain disabilities or health conditions. It was a two part plan.
Part A providing payment to the hospital, home health following hospital stays, skilled nursing
facility, and hospice care for the aged and disabled. Part A is paid by payroll deductions with no
premiums for those who contributed. Part B, is an optional medical insurance program for which
enrollees pay a monthly premium. Part B can be used to pay for physician, outpatient hospital,
home health, and other services for the aged and disabled. Although it was considered during the
1930 s as a part of president Roosevelt new deal. It was believed that the inclusion of the plan
could jeopardize the success of social security and hence was not added at that time. President
Truman officially initiated the talks on national health insurance program, but LBJ finally signed it
into law and added it to the Social security amendment in 1965. Since 1965 Medicarehad changed
multiple times with extended eligibility to individuals under age 65 who have long term
disabilities or end stage renal disease. Addition of Part C (Medicare+Choice), also known as
Medicare Advantage, drug benefit inclusion or Medicare Part D, the most recent Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act. The responsibility for overseeing Medicare and it funding lies with the
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010
If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception
Executive Summary/Abstract
More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of
contraceptive (Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive
pill. Even with new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services,
there is still an issue of women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the
next year, and who are not using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are
the largest deterrent for these women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and
services, women will have greater access to their health.
Where Are the Barriers?
One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all
FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to
eliminate a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide
contraception to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
unnecessary medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these
were pelvic examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams.
Notably, there are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for
Contraceptive Use (USMEC), which would require

Gay and Lesbian Rights
Today s Rights for Gays Lesbians Today s Rights for Gays Lesbians The state and federal laws
for Gay s and Lesbian are unfair and discriminatory. In today s ever so changing world it s hard
to keep up with laws. Most of the laws are printed on a fine line, but the rights for homosexuals
are blurred. With the topic being hot in the media it is hard to get the correct story. Two of the most
important rights that get blurred are marriage and same sex adoption. Same sex marriage is only
legal in one state in the US, Massachusetts. Other than Massachusetts only four other countries
allow same sex marriage. The Netherlands, Canada, Belgium and Spain. [pic] It is unknown how
many countries allow adoptions by same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also seems as if this is a reenactment of back in the 60 s when people were so harsh towards
people of color. Hopefully if gays and lesbians fight for years they will get the rights they
deserve. Now for my personal beliefs on same sex marriage. I think everyone should have the
right to marry the person they love regardless of age, color, gay or straight. We are all human
beings; we shouldn t be placed into categories based on who we love or what color our skin is. I
know within the next 10 years there will be no laws banning same sex marriage. Same sex
couples adopting is another thing lawmakers don t look so kindly on. Lawmakers seem to think
the child will be raised to be homosexual. This is not true. ..Studies show that children from same
sex households have no more emotional or behavioral problems than children of heterosexual
parents (Traves, Spring 2005.Vol.8, Iss. 3; pg. 17) I do not believe that most people against
same sex marriage know or believe that particular study. Traves (2005) also said that, others even
suggests that children with same sex parents are more tolerant of diversity than their peers and
are highly affectionate, responsive and protective of younger children. To me that made me think
that would make the world a better place to live. Children of same sex families would be better
off. Most same sex families are well off. Meaning they own their own home, have a great career and

Pearl S Buck s The Good Earth
The Good Earth, by Pearl S Buck, is set in China during the early 20th century, on a farm owned
by Wang Lung. Wang Lung is, at the beginning of the novel, a traditional poor farmer who works
from sunup to sundown on his field. He marries and has children with a former slave of the great
House of Hwang, named O lan; they have several sons and daughters together. By the end of the
novel, the family is wealthy enough to be called a Great House and because of this, his family is
able to live in luxury. Only one son, the third son, works as a farmer until he quits to become a
soldier. This causes the sons to think that the family s traditions no longer extend to them and that
they do not have to follow them. In The Good Earthby Pearl S Buck,... Show more content on

Because of this, they do not think they have to adhere to the family s traditions of working the
land, respecting the Gods or filial piety. They can never know the real happiness that Lung gets
as he walks on his fields, like when he visits his land for the first time after the flood recedes and
is filled with joy. The eldest son does not realize the blessing of his first child being a boy; unlike
how Lung buys eggs to dye red and incense to burn for the Gods at the birth of his first son. The
sons do not appreciate the fair weather, for they do not care to thank the Gods for the good
harvests it will bring. The sons also do not have a respect for their elders, always bringing
complaints to Lung in his old age. For all those reasons, the words of Alexandre Dumas, from
The Count of Monte Cristo fit this novel very well. Those born to wealth, and who have the
means of gratifying every wish, know not what is the real happiness of life, just as those who
have been tossed on the stormy waters of the ocean on a few frail planks can alone realize the
blessings of fair

The First Theories Of Deism In Christianity
The terms deism and theism were used interchangeably. The custom has been to use the words in a
mutually exclusive sense. A number of quite divergent theological and philosophical positions are
now indicated by the term deism. They resemble one another in that all reject one or more of the
traditional Christian theses concerning the relationship that exits between Godand universe. Deismis
a theological position which accepted the supreme being as the source of finite existence, but
denied the supernatural element in Christianity, as well as rejecting Christian revelation as the
only way to salvation. Many different theories of deism that ruled the world. The first theory of
deism is God created this universe, that all things in the universe, are directed by divine
providence; and that there is a life after death in which God will reward the good and punish the
evil (Carson). Divine revelation is rejected, and it is maintained that man must depend upon his
reason alone to give him some knowledge of the existence and nature of God and of man s moral
duties. The second theory of deism is the man is either rewarded or punished in his life; there is no
future life (Carson). It asserts that whatever happiness or sorrow man experience before his final
annihilation in death has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strongest element contributing to the development of deistic thought was the rise of many new
scientists discoveries (Carson). Discoveries made it imperative for Europeans to change their basic
idea of the universe. One contribution to the development of deism was many written accounts of
travels to unknown lands (Carson). Explorers and travelers had come upon people who had no
contact with Christianity, but who seemed nonetheless to have highly developed systems of
morality and admirable religious principles. The deists argued from this that human reason was
sufficient to establish religion and

Magellan was certain that he could find the Spice Islands by sailing west, and in 1508 he asked
King Charles I for some ships. King Charles I gave him five ships: the Trinidad, San Antonio,
Victoria, Conceptio, and the Santiago. In 1519 he set sail for the Spice Islands, first stopping at
the Canary Islands. His second stop was Rio De Janeiro, and they traded a lot with the natives
there. Later on they stopped at Rio De La Plata for supplies. When nearing the tip of South
America, they looked for a strait which connected the Atlantic Ocean with the South Ocean that
had been seen by a sailor in 1513. After they found the strait, some people wanted to turn back
but Magellan was convinced the Spice Islands were not much further. Once the other captains
tried to take over all the ships, but didn t succeed. One was killed but the others were put into
hard labor. Magellan named the South Ocean the Pacific Ocean because Pacific meant calm. A
lot of men died of scurvy because there wasn t enough fruit and vegetables. Success had made
Magellan a very religious man, so he tried to convert some Islanders to become Christian, and
succeeded in turning a tribe Christian, but made a fatal mistake by agreeing to help the tribe fight

Measuring the cerebral blood volume has always been a focal point of several neuroimaging studies
in order to get a better understanding of the varied structure function relationships within the human
brain. Being one of the most complicated structures in the human body, the brain sits inside our

Doppler ultrasound is a way to measure the peak systolic and diastolic velocities. Resting peak
velocities in both common carotid and internal carotid arteries decrease as individual ages. If a
stenosis is present, then the internal carotid velocity increases relative to the normal values. To
get an estimate of the blood flow, researchers use Doppler and B mode ultrasound measurements.
(3) By examining the blood flow at the bifurcation ridge in the carotid artery, we could determine
few key features of the blood that is being delivered to the brain via the carotid arteries. Nearly two
thirds of the entire flow, enters the internal carotid artery and the velocity of the blood in the
proximal internal carotid artery is usually higher on the wall next to the bifurcation.

  • 2. Odour Of Chrysanthemums And The Rocking-Horse Winner Short stories have been around for many years. D.H. Lawrence has wrote many stories. Two of his stories are Odour of Chrysanthemums and The rocking horse winner . There are several differences and similarities between the two stories. The similarities and differences between the two stories are with the characters, theme and imagery. Overall, the two stories were very similar with differences in details. The primary theme of both stories is love. In both of his stories, there is an issue with the mother s lack of love. In addition to love, D.H. Lawrence centered both stories on family dynamics. The theme is on the interaction and relationship amongst family members. In both stories, the mother struggled to with love. Though the mother in Odour of Chrysanthemums appeared to have loved and cared for her children, she felt cold about her unborn child. The mother in The rocking horse winner felt no love for all of her children. In the both stories, the father did not play an active role, but he is discussed. The fathers appeared to be working a lot. Even with the fathers being employed there were still concerns about money for both mothers. Additionally, both stories appeared to have similar settings. • 3. Hamlet s Existential Crisis When looking at Hamlet, one could say that William Shakespeare put the play together as a very cathartic tragedy. The emotional result of dealing with so many deaths brings on a plethora of emotions which are not usually felt in a typical play. Hamlet begins not with the normal prosperity and good fortune as do most tragedies, but with a more stifling and depressing sort of mood (Tekany 115). However, something else could be said about this play as well. The play centers on Hamletand his existential characteristics, such as angst, isolation and his confrontations with nothingness. The exhibition of these characteristics proves Hamlet to be an existential character. The idea of Hamlet s father s (King Hamlet of Denmark) passing is what begins the cycle of existential thoughts and feelings within him. From the conflict raging inside Hamlet, stemming from the loss of his father, blooms the beginnings of a bigger, overall existential conflict that soon leads to his cathartic downfall. He visits places filled with nothingness and abhorrence with a sense of frailty and pulsating frustration. Hamlet s existential crisis begins with the death of his father and the remarrying of his mother. At this point, for Hamlet, the questions start pouring in; to be or not to be (Hamlet 3.1.57), and so on. From questioning his existence and fighting with himself about the purpose of his life begins to show the beginnings of the existential crisis that is soon to consume him. Also, this ... • 4. Compare And Contrast Atrahasis And Evan Almighty Atrahasis and the movie Evan Almighty both describe floods that are forewarned by a god. Both discuss the stories of men warned by a god and require them to build a boat that will help them escape the perils of a flood. However, these stories are different because of the reason for the flood, how they are told of the flood, and what the flood actually consists of. The movie Evan Almightydraws from the story of flood in the Bible. In the movie, Godbegins to foreshadow to Evan that he will have a larger purpose, until he directly tells Evan that there will be a flood. God foreshadows this to Evan by sending him materials and directions on how to build an ark. Evan at first is very uncomfortable with the idea of a flood and building an ark, but then he gains confidence in his mission and builds the ark, even though he is mocked by people around him. However, the flood ends up being a misconstrued dam that breaks and floods his new, expensive community. A huge wave from the dam swallows his neighborhood and brings him directly to the cause of the misconstrued dam. The beliefs of gods in each story are very different. Mainly because in Atrahasis there is a presence of multiple gods but in Evan Almighty the story is surrounded by the idea of a monotheistic version of God. In Atrahasis, there are many gods mentioned, including the three high gods and the lesser gods beneath them. This a huge difference, especially when it comes to the storyline. In Atrahasis, there are multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Unwind By Neal Lassiter Although the population of the world is upwards of seven billion people, society is still an extremely unwelcoming place for people struggling with their lives. Important figures such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., or Abraham Lincoln stood up for issues like slavery, peace, and racism that no other person would care about. Even with the incredible advances they made in humanity though, there are still an unbelievable amount of conflicts between races, gender, and overall acceptance in today s world. People are idly standing by as the world crumbles away, but some people such as social activists are trying to make a difference like Connor Lassiter. In Unwind, by Neal Shusterman, the main protagonist, Connor Lassiter, was a disgrace to his parents through his misbehaviour in school. He became an Unwind, who would be taken apart to serve as replacement body parts along with many others his age. While many others were accepting it as their fate, Connor fought back. He stood up to Unwinding himself and also brought other Unwind s voices together to form a powerful stance. His will to simply exist empowered other Unwinds and ultimately changed their society forever, saving thousands to Unwinds to come. In the spur of the moment, Connor decides not to surrender to the police, but instead grabs a hostage. Connor s whole life turns upside down as he becomes a criminal and goes on the run. • 7. The War Was Ended As An Armistice Of The Great War On the 18th of November 1918, the guns fell silent, the Great War was ended as an Armistice was signed with Germany. Two months later in January 1919, delegates from all over the world came to Paris to conclude the peace settlement that would end the war. Six months of intense discussions and debates ended up on the signing of Treaty of Versailles. Three major figures dominated the peace making, with the less noticeable presence of a forth one, that are namely: the American president Wilson, the French Prime Minister Clemenceau, and the British Prime Minister Lloyd Georges and the passive Italy personified by the Prime Minister Orlando. Those peacemakers are seen by many (scholars, historians, politics...) as injudicious and dogmatic. They were also perceived as vindictive with respect to the fate they have reserved to Germany. But on the other hand many historians and scholars revisited the series of events that took place at Paris in 1919 and challenge the view that this peace was a truncated one. These authors argue that the Peace conference was a real attempt to reshape the international system with an innovative concept breaking with the old balance of power that presided over Europe s destiny for over a century. The peacemakers faced dilemmas that still hold a grip on the world today (the ethnic nationalism issue). Albeit the Peace of Versailles showed many flaws and imprecision regarding the actions to take within the framework of the collective security, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whale Rider is set in a small New Zealand coastal village inhabited by Maoris who claim descent from Paikea, the Whale Rider. For 1,000 years a male heir of the Chief has become leader of the tribe. At the beginning of the film, the wife of Porourangi, the Chief s eldest son, dies in childbirth along with the male twin she was carrying. The surviving child, a girl, is given the name of Pai, the traditional name given to the male child. Porourangi is grief stricken and departs for Europe, leaving Pai to be brought up by her grandparents, Koro and Nanny Flowers. Koro loves Pai, but won t accept her as Chief. He is convinced that the troubles of the tribe are attributable to Pai aspiring to be leader. He tries unsuccessfully to train the other boys in the tribe for the role. Far out at sea a school of whales respond to Pai s calls for guidance. They swim to the village but become beached. Symbolically the tribe will die. Only Pai is willing to make the sacrifice to save her people, and because of this Koro accepts her leadership. Koro refuses to accept Pai as leader despite her repeatedly showing herself to be more capable than any of the boys. We see her challenging the old ways, and undertaking the gruelling demands of traditional warrior practice. It is she who goes into the sea to bring back Koro s prize possession. The casting of ... In this TV show the main protagonist is a forensic anthropologist..... Most of the TV shows I have watched over the years have always had a forensic scientist, or forensic anthropologist. It has always been fascinating how the forensic analysts could deduce the exact time when a person was murdered to the correct hour and most times to the correct minute. In each of these TV shows there were three main ways on how the protagonists determined the time of death of the murdered or suicide victims. The three ways were rigor mortis, algor mortis, and entomology. Using these methods they had conclusive results on how the person was murdered and when the person was murdered. Introduction: Forensic science is the application of science to criminal and civil laws. Forensic scientists collect, preserve, and analyses scientific evidence during the course of an investigation. It is used in multiple scenarios regarding criminal cases, but in the following investigation it will be used to determine the time of death of people. There are three major methods of determining the time of death of the deceased: Forensic Entomology, Algor Mortis, and Rigor Mortis. Perhaps the alarm clock didn t go off because of a power surge. Maybe the lights dim when the hair dryer turns on, or a hurricane has knocked the power lines down and electricity can t be bad. These scenarios are nothing compared to the day when a nuclear meltdown has occurred. A really bad day is one when the power fails, followed by water contamination, followed by a disruption in food distribution. Chaos occurs, there is a collapse of law and order, fires emerge and looting begins. The INEPC, NNSA, Office of Policy and International Affairs, Office of the General Counsel, and the Department of Energy should provide more protective guidelines in place to prevent nuclear accidents. There are about a dozen key agencies globally that work together to manage and regulate the nuclear industry. The Institute for Security and Conflicts Studies cooperates with the Security Policy Forum. The International Nuclear Energy Policy and Cooperation (INEPC) works closely with the Department of Energy s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to watch over the commercial nuclear power plants. Some believe the government regulates business too much others feel that the government does not do enough. I believe the government is regulating business far too much and furthermore putting businesses out of business and causing many workers to lose jobs. In this paper I will point out the common problems dealing with government regulation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In all of the cases of 1970 the Congress chose to regulate instead of the alternatives; court penalties for polluters, tax penalties for employers with poor safety records, or government funded information programs. If the health and safety regulators were created in response to nonexistent crises, it is not surprising they have made little impact on morality rates. (Crickmer 1980) Sam Peltzman, University of Chicago economist, did a cost benefit analysis of the drug regulations that followed the thalidomide tragedy in Europe. In his analysis he focused on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which is alike the older single industry regulators and some of its problems are typical of most health and safety regulation. He found that the new drug laws were costing far more than the benefits achieved. In Britain more lives were being saved than in the U.S. due to the fewer restrictions on new drugs unlike the U.S. which have conservative policies towards new drugs. Regulation interferes with production and halts innovation and risk taking resulting in declining employment. This is to say, because of regulation costs, the businesses do not have enough money to invest in taking risks with new ideas and technology. This does not allow the company to expand and hire more workers. Regulation over regulates by setting standards for every aspect of manufacture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An actor, for example, generally feels alive when they are preforming in front of people, while a computer programer perhaps feels more comfortable when working in solitude. Some teachers have a natural empathy that allows them to care for their students, and an author s imagination allows them to weave together stories that transport people to new worlds. Psychologists have been studying these differences in personality for centuries and have divided personality into five different traits. These traits are known as the Big Five. The Big Five personality traits included in the theory are: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, and neuroticism (Rentfrow np). In other words, these traits describe your level of sociability and enthusiasm, your level of friendliness and kindness, your level of organization and work ethic, your level of creativity and curiosity, and your level of calmness and tranquility (Rentfrow np). The Voyages Of The Slave Trade Voyages Other risks that affected the slave trade voyage, indirectly to investors while directly to the ship owner, captain and others aboard included natural disasters due to weather and navigation, attacks by pirates or competing trading countries, slave rebellions, and diseases as mentioned before. The weather and natural disasters is not widely cited as a great risk to these voyages. Nonetheless, it is imperative in the analysis if we are trying to capture a complete picture of the supply line of slaves to the colonies. At the very start of the trade in 1514, voyages only crossed the Southern Atlantic Ocean, but as the trade grew by 1650, and slaves started to be shipped to North America and some to Europe, as shown in figure 2, captains also had to face the rough conditions that came with sailing the northern Atlantic Ocean (Slave voyages, 2014) Figure 2. This table shows the destination of the voyages from the beginning of the trade, until it was abolished. Notice that slaves were not shipped farther north until later in the slave trade, starting with the British Caribbean and moving north. (Slaves Embarked Table, 2014) While crossing the Atlantic, fears of being attacked by pirates, or taken over by a Spanish ship were very real (Eltis et al., 2010). The reasons for such attacks are clear; the ships transported valuable goods (slaves, among other goods such as gold and ivory) and was very vulnerable in the middle of the ocean, with only a small crew aboard to defend it. ... • 23. Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s The Namesake The first sentence of a novel, even a chapter, needs to leave a first impression. Jhumpa Lahiri in her novel The Namesake wields the first sentence in each of her chapters, so they build through her book in a far more significant way than just a first impression. Lahiri uses the first sentence of every chapter to further the plot development by clearly setting new scenes to transition to the new setting and sub purpose of the next chapter. To successfully set her scenes, she uses varying Syntax and rhetorical tools including imagery, short syntax with a focus, and grammatical mistakes. Of the different ways Lahiri sets her scenes, the first sentences that provide the most context are the ones that employ imagery and have a long syntax structure. Lahiri takes advantage of these sentences when the book is currently in a place with minimal conflict and the mood of the book is new and very different from what it was previously. The main goal is to develop what is currently a clean slate. The cleanest slate being the first chapter, which starts on a sticky August evening two weeks before her due date, Ashima Ganguli stands in the kitchen of a Central Square apartment, combining Rice Krispies and Planters peanuts and chopped red onion in a bowl (Lahiri 1). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and how, which covers almost all the basic context. The reader can now understand the scene, so the author could start describing actions going on in the scene. Another clean slate in The Namesake is the chapter after Gogol and Monshumi s wedding, and they attend a dinner party. Lahiri ends that section and it shifts to their anniversary; On the morning of their first anniversary, Monshumi s parents call, waking them, wishing them a happy anniversary before they ve had the chance to say it to each other (246). This sentence provides a who, what, when, where, and why, which sets a completely new scene. The long syntax allows for Lahiri to provide all this information, so the reader can start picturing the scene. In turn, this strategy creates a very solid transition to a completely different place and point of view to focus on. On the other hand, Lahiri uses short syntax with a very particular focus to start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction, imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker and the animals. In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative connotation directed towards the woodchucks. In order for individuals to have the ability to regulate emotions, they must beware of their emotions. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Leestatue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil Warand endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. Life is not meant for the meek. It is not meant to be lived in a box or in a comfort zone. As Amelia Earhart so eloquently put it, it takes courage to experience peace in this life. I have had to embody that as I follow my dreams and fight for my goals. My goal is to be a pediatric genetic counselor. To accomplish this goal, I have had to use courage to face adversity, step outside my comfort zone, and strive for what I want. You can t just sit back and wait for what you want. It s not enough to just say you want something and go through the motions. You have to fiercely and actively seek out what you want and prove that you are the best choice. It may not always work out in your favor, but it is better to fail then to never try at all. The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of fear. Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned. Very rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes you will fail. You will be told you weren t the best choice or you were good, but just not what they were looking for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the best teacher. His/Her preaching must speak true, authentic words for the oppressed, the down trodden, the deprived, the captives, the poor, the rich, the illiterate, as well as to the intellect. Presently, the hostile moment of worldliness is a belief that life is to be realized at any cost to self. Thus, here lies the Christian paradox: through the Gospel we have to see Jesus as a truth relevant to humanity s need to rise higher. The Gospel is to be preached to all. It is a Gospel to save the humanity of African Americanpeople but the gospel is beneficial for all. Therefore, the African American preacher s message must have within its content something more than that which causes the people to enter in a foot patting, hand clapping, highly emotional, ecstatic worldly experience, but also a content which serves to balance the life of God s people on earth. 6. • 48. The Women Of The Care Act Of 2010 If You Offer It, They Might Come Back: Eliminating Barriers to Accessing Contraception Executive Summary/Abstract More than half of all women of reproductive age in the United States use some form of contraceptive (Daniels, Daugherty, and Jones, 2014). Of those, most are on the oral contraceptive pill. Even with new regulations in place to supposedly increase access to preventive services, there is still an issue of women who are sexually active, do not wish to become pregnant within the next year, and who are not using a form of contraception. Clinician and facility based barriers are the largest deterrent for these women. By removing the barriers to contraceptive counseling and services, women will have greater access to their health. Where Are the Barriers? One of the highlighted provisions within the Affordable Care Act of 2010 was the coverage for all FDA approved forms of contraception without a co pay. For many patients, this was able to eliminate a financial barrier. However, the largest barriers remain with the clinicians who provide contraception to patients. In a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unnecessary medical procedures were cited as barriers to accessing contraception. Among these were pelvic examinations, routine pregnancy testing, HIV screening, and cervical cytology exams. Notably, there are some instances, as listed out in the United States Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use (USMEC), which would require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
