Association Between Adult ADHD Symptoms and Family DistressTejas Shah
In this seminar, I will be exploring some research studies discussing how the ADHD symptoms manifest in adults and cause problems and impairment in different domains, ex. home, work, social and personal, of an Adult ADHD person’s life leading to family distress. Further, I will discuss about assessment and management of family distress.
This is the poster that I was able to create by the end of the First Year Research Program. It encompasses three weeks' worth of research on the topic of ADHD medication and its effect on the social and emotional development of children. On the poster, I described the purpose of my project, methodology, and my results and conclusion.

Attention Deficit Disorder is commonly referred to as ADHD. Three types of
ADHD are identified by the National Institute of Mental health. They are: the
predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type (that does not show significant inattention);
the predominantly inattentive type (that does not show significant hyperactive-
impulsive behavior) sometimes called ADD; and the combined type
(that displays both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms).

2Increase in ADHD DiagnosesADHD has been a long-standing.docxrhetttrevannion

Increase in ADHD Diagnoses
ADHD has been a long-standing disorder that has severely affected the performance of children educationally and socially, causing lots of concern and pain to parents and other stakeholders like doctors, psychologist, counselors and the society. With the rate of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrome (ADHD) increasing by 24% since 2001(USA today, 2013), such a significant jump should raise much concern and interest. Increase in the diagnosis of the disorder has raised much awareness and effort to manage the disorder and give a clearer vision on planning has increased. ADHD has been under-diagnosed due to certain reasons that has made the assessment of its scope difficult (Hamed, Kauer,Stevens,Pradeep & Lyons, 2015). Moreover, because it is under-diagnosed, much wrong information pervades society and effective treatment remains a mirage. An increase in ADHD diagnoses is beneficial to children, parents, and the public in providing information about the disorder, statistics, and its challenges.
First, the provision of adequate information about the ADHD disorder will make effective and increased diagnosis possible. Parents and their children’s knowledge about the disorder (USA today, 2013) likely caused the rise in the diagnosis of the ADHD disorder. When parents have information about the prevalence, signs and symptoms of the disorder, it raises the need to go for a test and receive help if indeed the disorder is present in their wards. The DSM-5 criteria for ADHD helps significantly in the diagnosis of ADHD (CDC, 2015) and explains the various signs and symptoms to look out for in effectively diagnosing the disorder. Patterns of inattention and impulsive behaviors are signs that affects the Childs concentration in school and will affect the Childs grade (AAP, 2016). The Childs inability to focus on studies and to pay attention in class is a thing of much worry, as this will be a problem for the childs future since one third of these symptoms in children will persist into adulthood (Hamed, et al., 2015). The community do have a stake in this trend also as increase in information about the signs, symptoms and general information about ADHD will increase the diagnosis of the disorder. A society with lots of dysfunctional individuals may not prosper, as it should since a large percentage of gifted people are unable to tap into their enormous talent that could contribute positively to the prosperity of the society because of un-diagnosed or wrongly diagnosed cases of ADHD.
Next, an understanding of the statistics about the increase of ADHD diagnosis will improve the points and areas of concentration about the disorder. With the rate of ADHD increasing by 24% since 2001(USA Today, 2013), it becomes needful to plan on effective ways of giving this percentage of people, a better life by helping to manage and provide treatment for them. Statistics points to the facts to where a problem or solution lies and in this case,.

Participants
This study's participants will consist of 100 children (N=100) aged 4 to 6 years. This study will be conducted in the school where the children attend the class. The main reason behind selecting the school setting is because, in this setting, all the factors that affect work ethic, social interaction, and behavior will be considered. To conduct this study successfully, a class will be required to have 20-25 students, their teacher, and our professionals. All the participants will be kindergarten children with who ADHD has been diagnosed. We will ensure that the sample size is large enough so that we will be able to collect data that will support or dispute the research question. Using 100 participants surpasses the threshold; therefore, the data to be collected will have a weight to support or dispute the research question. We will use purposeful sampling criteria to find 100 students in the grade kindergarten aged 4-6 years. In qualitative research, it is essential to use purposeful sampling to get valuable data despite the limited resources. The children's choice will be based on pediatrician evaluations and diagnosis of ADHD. To get the participant, it will be ensured that they have not gone a treatment therapy before the start of the study. This is to facilitate the participant to be chosen randomly between methylphenidate treatment and behavioral therapy. The study will ensure that the parent consent of the children is taken. The participant will involve males and females.
Measures
In this study, the best research design is using qualitative experimental research. The main feature of experimental design is selecting the participant randomly; therefore, the research has a maximum control level. In many research for identifying a relationship between two or more variables, they embrace experimental research. This research amicably compares two or more groups. Experimental research consists of both of experimental group and the control group. This experimental group will consist of the children undergoing medication or behavioral therapy; on the other hand, a control group entails children undergoing Methylphenidate. The experimental group gives an independent variable of behavioral therapy. The research will relate behavior therapy's effects symptoms of ADHD and the effect of Methylphenidate therapy on the same symptoms.
Extraneous Variables
Many variables must be examined and recorded in observing and recording various issues related to ADHD children. No factors present in the children's classroom that may not have an indirect influence on the children's behaviors yet are not related to the ADHD symptoms. The presence of distractibility and peer influence are some of the core aspects that are likely to influence children's behaviors. The children can.
After receiving a positive response from StopNShopToday, Inc. .docxnettletondevon
After receiving a positive response from StopNShopToday, Inc. management about the recommendations for the
incentives and performance appraisal projects, the HR generalist has been assigned a project that will prove to be
very challenging: assessing the competitiveness of the company benefits package.
The owners of StopNShopToday, Inc. are very concerned about the escalation of health insurance costs. When they
started the business in 1991, benefit costs were much less and employees were happier with what the company
provided. Now, however, the owners regularly hear employee complaints about the growing health insurance
premiums they pay.
In addition, the owners are tired of employees always requesting that they be allowed to take a greater number of
paid personal absence days. Scheduling employee vacations and holidays is difficult because the company's store
locations are open all day and every day, except for Christmas and New Year's day. As a result, the owners want to
compare StopNShopToday, Inc.'s benefits package with other similar companies. They intend to use these facts to
make better decisions and communicate their problems more accurately to employees.
As the HR generalist, you quickly realize that the corporation had never quantified the total costs of benefits. After 1
month of exhaustive review of benefits bills and payroll records, you have summarized the corporate compensation
and benefits costs as seen in the following:
Percent of Total Compensation:
• Total wages and salaries: 50%
• Total benefits costs: 25%
• Paid leave: 5%
• Supplemental leave: 2%
• Insurance: 6%
• Retirement and savings: 2%
• Legally required benefits: 10%
• Other benefits: 0%
With this information, you will now attempt an external benefits comparison. To get benefits data from other
companies, review the following data from the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Some of the
most pertinent survey results are in Appendix A.
Click here to view the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics 2005 data.
Click here to view the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics 1986–2001 data.
Prepare a comparison of the compensation and benefits costs that you will deliver to the company's owners. Create
at least 1 chart to visually depict the most relevant data. Address the issues of greatest concern to the owners.
Provide several paragraphs to summarize your findings. Use Appendix A or additional data provided in the U.S.
Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics documents.

Have you ever thought about the phrase “pay attention”?
Doesn’t that seem like a strange combination of words? Why not “give attention”? When we “pay” there is cost involved. It is a due, not a right.
To maintain a sense of focus in our creating costs us something. If we want to understand what we’re trying to do and what is really going on, we have to “pay” attention to what is happening around us.
Tesla Motors, Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based company that designs, manufactures and sells electric cars and electric vehicle powertrain components.
Tesla Motors gained widespread attention by producing the Tesla Roadster, the first fully electric sports car. Its second model is the Model S, a fully electric luxury sedan. While still expensive, it is substantially cheaper than the Roadster. Tesla also sells electric powertrain components, including lithium-ion battery packs, to other automakers, including Daimler and Toyota.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Title: Sense of Smell
Presenter: Dr. Faiza, Assistant Professor of Physiology
Qualifications:
MBBS (Best Graduate, AIMC Lahore)
FCPS Physiology
ICMT, CHPE, DHPE (STMU)
MPH (GC University, Faisalabad)
MBA (Virtual University of Pakistan)
Learning Objectives:
Describe the primary categories of smells and the concept of odor blindness.
Explain the structure and location of the olfactory membrane and mucosa, including the types and roles of cells involved in olfaction.
Describe the pathway and mechanisms of olfactory signal transmission from the olfactory receptors to the brain.
Illustrate the biochemical cascade triggered by odorant binding to olfactory receptors, including the role of G-proteins and second messengers in generating an action potential.
Identify different types of olfactory disorders such as anosmia, hyposmia, hyperosmia, and dysosmia, including their potential causes.
Key Topics:
Olfactory Genes:
3% of the human genome accounts for olfactory genes.
400 genes for odorant receptors.
Olfactory Membrane:
Located in the superior part of the nasal cavity.
Medially: Folds downward along the superior septum.
Laterally: Folds over the superior turbinate and upper surface of the middle turbinate.
Total surface area: 5-10 square centimeters.
Olfactory Mucosa:
Olfactory Cells: Bipolar nerve cells derived from the CNS (100 million), with 4-25 olfactory cilia per cell.
Sustentacular Cells: Produce mucus and maintain ionic and molecular environment.
Basal Cells: Replace worn-out olfactory cells with an average lifespan of 1-2 months.
Bowman’s Gland: Secretes mucus.
Stimulation of Olfactory Cells:
Odorant dissolves in mucus and attaches to receptors on olfactory cilia.
Involves a cascade effect through G-proteins and second messengers, leading to depolarization and action potential generation in the olfactory nerve.

2. WHAT !
IS ADHD?
Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
is a condition that becomes apparent in some children in the preschool
and early school years. It is hard for these children to control their behavior
and/or pay attention. It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of
children have ADHD, or approximately 2 million children in the United
States. This means that in a classroom of 25 to 30 children, it is likely that
at least one will have ADHD.
3. WHAT !

ADHD+ is an Interactive, Informative and Diagnostic Assistant System for
Attention Deficit / Hyper activity Disorder through several platforms.
Cross-Platform: Android, iOs, HTML5 Web

4. OUR
CUSTOMERS
THE PSYCHOLOGISTS.
We categorized our customers in two different segments.

parents.)
§ The Parents.
§ The Teachers at schools.
§ The Medical authorities. (Psychologists and ADHD/ADD Clinics)
THE PATIENTS
THE PARENTS
DIRECT
INDIRECT
5. ADHD+!
VALUE PROPOSITION
Our system would be divided in three segments.
• Informative Section:
To provide wide ranges of information about ADHD/ADD, Symptoms, Treatments and etc.
• Diagnostic Section:
To examine and diagnose whether he/she has the ADHD or ADD through the system by
answering some tests which has to be done by themselves and observers (Friends, Parents,
Schools). System can find whether the patient has ADHD and even the type of it.
• Referral Section:
The patient can find the nearest medical center which offers ADHD/ADD treatments and etc.
6. CUSTOMERS’
PROBLEMS
Our Customers' Problems
Based on our interviews, we realized the main concern of
our customers, especially the parents and teachers at
school is finding whether their kids or students has ADHD
or not, because it’s really important to they diagnosed as
soon as possible and before 8 years old. On the other
hand, as far as they are active, they have several activities
which is hard for their parents or teachers to realise whether
they have ADHD or not.
On the other hand, psychologists and ADHD centres
should arrange an appointment for each student to see
whether he/she has ADHD or not whereas they can be
diagnosed by some tests which is hard for the parents and
teachers to understand them.
7. CUSTOMERS’
SOLUTIONS
So, they search a lot on internet (or local libraries) for the
ADHD/ADD offline tests which are so time-consuming
and hard to summarise whether their child or students
has ADHD or not, because theses tests are written by
Psychologists for the Psychologists and the people who
are not familiar with the medical terms, would usually be
confused and would finally decided to book an
appointment in their nearest medical centres for the
test. So, not only the spend lots of time for their
research which is really time consuming, they usually
should pay a 20 min appointment in medical centres
which is around $75-100 (+fuel and their worth of time).
8. CUSTOMERS’
OBSERVATIONS
ON ADHD+
Then, when we shows our pilot system to them that
was a WOW for them as far as the Teachers could easily
help their students to do the test and system showed
whether they have ADHD symptoms or not and even, it
can mention the type of ADHD as well.
The parents were also, so keen for the final version of
our system to examine their child.
Psychologists, were so positive about the system as it
could help them to ask their patients to do the test at
home before their first session with them. Although, they
asked us to declare that the people should be seen by a
professional psychologist and they should not rely on
these kind of tests only.
9. CUSTOMERS’
OBSERVATIONS
ON ADHD+
They are happy to pay for this system.
Parents are likely interested to pay for each test and
requested to have a free trial test in advance for the pro
paid test.
Teachers are interested in yearly reduced rate
subscription based on the size of their school.
Psychologists are looking for partnership subscription
which we recommend them if the use diagnosed for
ADHD.
10. THEIR OTHER
CONCERNS
They suggested various interesting ideas such as entertaining test system to kids
can directly run the test without any observers.
Psychologists, are also looking for ADHD+ consoles to can be located in their
waiting rooms and the patients can use and run the test prior to their
appointment.
They asked us to make a portal for their patients and send the patients results
directly to their Psychologists to can monitor the treatment.
Although, these are fantastic ideas, but we gonna put them in our 2nd phase of
our program to can focus more on our goal. But the system are going to run on
various LCD sizes which can be run on any console, so, medical centres can use
this system on their computers.
11. MARKET SIZE
As US academic researches show, It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of
children have ADHD, or approximately 3 million children in the United States. This
means that in a classroom of 25 to 30 children, it is likely that at least one will have

17. SALES STRATEGY
APP USERS
So, the main strategy for increasing
sales for our ADHD+ App users
would be Brand Awareness by the
help of Medical Media, such as
Medical Magazines as well as online
medical forum with Discount
Vouchers to be used in the app.
18. SALES STRATEGY
CONSOLE USERS
But for the ADHD+ Console Users,
the marketing strategy would be a
little bit controversial and harder as it
needs a powerful agreement
between us and partners which
needs legal approvement by medical
authorities such as Government,
Ministry of Health, Institute of
Psychology, Institute of Child Health,
Institute of Education and etc. So, for
ease this process and speed the
agreement procedure, we are
planning to gather a significant data
by our App & Freemium User to
show the system accuracy. At the
moment we have data of 1170 users,
which we are keep in touch with
them to receive info from their
Psychologists. The previous samples
accuracy was %100 Correct
Referral, %91 Accurate ADHD Type.
Although, we don’t guarantee the
system accuracy and every user
should be seen by his/her GP and
Psychologists but the system
accuracy is so essential for the
partnership deal.

19. SAMPLE ANSWER
Based, upon your responses to ADHD+ quiz, you may
very well have an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder. People who have answered similarly to you
typically qualify for a diagnosis of ADHD and have
sought professional treatment for this disorder.
You should not take this as a diagnosis of any sort, or a
recommendation for treatment.
However, it would be advisable and likely beneficial for
you to seek further diagnosis from a physician of
trained mental health professional soon.
