Case management in behavioral health involves coordinating community services to provide customized mental health care according to an individual's needs. A case manager assesses treatment needs, develops and monitors treatment plans, and ensures the individual's needs, strengths, preferences, and goals are addressed regarding legal, vocational, educational, financial, health, and self-care issues. In initial assessments, case managers collect information on the individual's work, education, legal, living, family, income, health, substance use, and safety situations to develop a discharge plan with short and long-term goals prioritizing steps to achieve independence and well-being.
The document discusses complex patient journeys and tools to impact them. It begins by defining key dimensions and inflection points of patient journeys. Dimensions include the healthcare, disease/therapy, and human journeys. Inflection points are moments where outcomes are predicted. Behavioral science and cognitive-behavioral therapy can be used to intervene at these points by addressing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral barriers. A case study examines using these tools to help appropriate diabetes patients initiate insulin injections by addressing a patient's needle anxiety through cognitive reframing and desensitization exercises.

This document outlines plans to develop a social norms marketing campaign to address problem gambling among college students at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). It defines social norms marketing and describes how misperceptions of norms can influence behaviors. A survey of UNR students found they overestimated peers' gambling and underestimated associated problems. The campaign will identify accurate norms, develop messages to correct misperceptions, test messages with focus groups, distribute messages through various campus media, and evaluate impact on norms and behaviors through a follow-up survey. The goal is to decrease risky gambling and problem gambling among students.

A Conversation on Supporting Self-Management in Children and Adolescents with...LucilePackardFoundation
While self-management support has been a component of adult chronic care for decades, it is just emerging as a critical need for children, especially those with complex conditions. Self-management is a shared undertaking between the child, their parents and care providers, and must take into account the child’s developmental status and the family’s capacities. Clinicians need routine, standardized approaches and tools to address the unique needs of children and their families including assessing self-management skills, collaboratively setting goals, and promoting competence and autonomy in youth.
The document discusses how early childhood education programs can help prevent child abuse and neglect by promoting protective factors in families. It outlines several protective factors shown to prevent abuse, including parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting/child development, and children's social-emotional competence. It also describes strategies programs use to strengthen these factors, such as parent education, social support, responding to crises, and observing for early signs of abuse or neglect. Overall, the document argues that early childhood programs are well-positioned to detect and address family issues to prevent child maltreatment.

The rising international trend in the number of parents who separate or divorce is raising concerns about long-term consequences for child and youth well-being and adjustment to adulthood.
Separation and divorce may increase risks for negative outcomes in physical, mental, educational and psychosocial well-being during childhood and later, as youth transition to adulthood. Most children of separated and divorced families do not have significant or diagnosable impairments.
Most children and youth experience initial painful emotions including sadness, confusion, fear of abandonment, anger, guilt, grief, and conflicts related to loyalty and misconceptions. Although many children and youth of separating or divorcing parents experience distressing thoughts and emotions, the overwhelming majority do not experience serious outcomes. However, even small negative effects constitute a serious public health problem when multiplied by the millions of individuals who experience separation or divorce.
Due to the effect of the divorce on the kids, they tend to be stubborn and are wild and erratic in behavior which is usually harmful to the children. It affects their daily relationship, academics, and personal lives.
Divorce can increase the risk of mental health problems in children and adolescence. Regardless of age, gender, and culture, studies show children of divorced parents experience increased psychological problems. Divorce may trigger an adjustment disorder in children that resolves within a few months. But, studies have also found depression and anxiety rates are higher in children from divorced parents.
According to our research conducted, children of divorced parents scored significantly lower than children of continuously married parents on measures of academic achievement, conduct, psychological adjustment, self-concept, and social relations. More recent research continues to suggest an ongoing gap between children of divorced parents and continuously married parents. The negative impact of divorce can reach into adulthood and even later in adult married life, with potential increases in poverty, educational failure, risky sexual behavior, unplanned pregnancies, earlier marriage or cohabitation, marital discord, and divorce
The extent to which the negative outcomes associated with parental divorce reflect dysfunctional processes that arise before parental separation, such as interparental conflict.
The Child Care Enhancement Program (CCEP) provides mental health consultation services to children ages 0-36 months, their families, and child care providers in Michigan. It aims to promote social-emotional health and prevent challenging behaviors. CCEP consultants offer various levels of support, from informal guidance to developing intervention plans. Eligibility is based on child care subsidy receipt. The program addresses common issues like prolonged crying, lack of engagement, and aggressive behaviors, which may stem from developmental, family, medical or other factors. Parents and providers report high satisfaction with CCEP's services in supporting children's healthy development.

Group Crisis Intervention
Serving Multiple Constituencies
This assignment will walk you through the steps to create crisis response plans, which is a critical job skill for counselors of children and adolescents. Using the Group Crisis Intervention Template, you will:
· Develop a one-time group crisis intervention plan that will help children or adolescents deal with the loss of classmates.
· Develop a one-time group crisis intervention plan to assist their parents and other concerned community members.
· For each intervention plan, describe how you will adapt these groups so that they are beneficial for individuals from different cultural backgrounds and are inclusive of individuals with exceptionalities.
· Use the Group Crisis Intervention Template to complete this assignment. Follow the instructions for formatting your plan, as indicated in the template.
Counselors who work with children and adolescents rarely work only with children and adolescents! They are often asked to help with prevention efforts, consult with schools or other groups that serve children, educate parents and teachers about children's mental health needs, and advocate for changes in communities and schools. Therefore, any counselor must understand how these multiple systems operate and must be knowledgeable about the programs and networks that support the mental health of diverse children and adolescents in the community.
For this assignment, you will describe how you would work with diverse individuals and two different constituencies by developing a group crisis intervention proposal for the Middle Valley Consortium. The intervention will include counseling components, education and prevention components, and follow-up plans to connect individuals to other programs or networks, if needed.
Your proposal is being requested because the community is still reeling from the shocking death of two middle school students, who overdosed on prescription drugs. Your proposal will include plans for holding two crisis intervention groups, one for the classmates of the deceased children and one for parents and community members who are upset by the event and concerned about the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse among children and adolescents.
Your community is diverse, so your crisis groups will include members from several different racial and ethnic backgrounds. You also have been informed that there is one middle school girl who has a hearing impairment, as do her parents, and one middle school boy affected by a motor neuron disease resulting in orthopedic impairment; he requires a wheelchair. His father is also affected by this heritable disease and requires a wheelchair. Additionally, from previous experience in the school, you know that two of your group members are medicated for ADHD.
You will implement your crisis counseling groups adapting the Group Cr ...

College mental health a checklist for parentsMrsunny4
This document provides parents with a checklist for supporting their child's mental health during their transition to college. It recommends that parents (1) prepare their child by discussing mental health challenges and keeping lines of communication open, (2) anticipate increased exposure to alcohol and discuss responsible partying, and (3) have a plan in place in case their child needs mental health services while at college. The checklist also suggests parents stay in touch regularly, forget stigma around mental health issues, encourage healthy habits, learn about college counseling services, and allow for mistakes. CTRs aim to support discharge from hospital or community support by evaluating if hospitalization is necessary, developing discharge plans, and identifying resource needs. The summary includes a 3-sentence summary of the document:
CTRs use a structured questionnaire and focus on developing person-centered plans to evaluate if individuals can be safely supported in the community. The review involves clinicians, family, and commissioners and aims to protect rights while managing risks. Recommendations from the CTR are submitted to responsible parties and identify actions needed for future planning and discharge.
Before Drug Addiction and RehabilitationAdam Smith
Teen drug use is a significant problem, with many teens being admitted to drug treatment centers each year for substances like cocaine, marijuana, and inhalants. When abused, these drugs can negatively impact brain development. Effective drug rehabilitation requires intervening in a teen's life and providing evidence-based treatment, though many treatment centers do not provide scientifically valid care. Choosing the right rehabilitation program is important, as a one-size-fits-all approach does not work - each individual's situation and needs are different. Successful programs employ various treatment methods like counseling and self-help strategies tailored to each person's specific case. Relapse is also common if the treatment approach is unsuitable or too brief for an individual's situation.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

For teens, alcohol and drug abuse often go hand-in-hand with mood
disorders like anxiety, depression, and cutting.
Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Does the program specialize in Dual Diagnosis or Coexisting Disorders?
With teens, the incidence of mental illness and substance abuse is even higher than
the adult population. Teens who undergo treatment for addiction should be
thoroughly evaluated to determine whether their substance abuse stems from a
co-occurring disorder.
Unless adolescents with co-occurring disorders receive treatment for both
their addiction and their mental behavioral issues, they are prone to have a
relapse of their mood disorder, a return to their addiction abuse, or both.

Does the program offer counseling and education for family members?
A strong teen addiction treatment center supports the family systems
approach to helping client(s) find solutions to problems or issues. This
approach is very effective when working with teen behavioral problems,
teen drug abuse, and the chaos occurring within the family.

Does the program schedule include classroom time to help teen students keep up
with their education?
Academic programs provide teens with the opportunity to continue their high school
education without losing time or credits. They will transfer a student’s high school
transcripts from the school of origin and work with the student to match the academic
courses and elective courses. Some will also work with the family and the teen to
receive assignments from their school.
11. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
What is the length of stay of the program?
Most teens suffering from drug and alcohol addiction need to get a firm foundation in
recovery and may require 60-90 days of residential treatment as well as a solid aftercare
plan that continues post-treatment support for the first year of recovery. Teens are
broken when they enter treatment and fragile when they leave residential care. They need
a supportive plan to keep them on the path to recovery.
The research is very clear that longer term care is superior to shorter term care. The idea
that quality treatment can be completed in 28-30 days has no basis in science. In fact,
the 28 day treatment model was developed because that is what insurance would pay for
it, not because it works.
12. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Are recreational activities included in the program?
Recreation and physical activity is a necessary activity for teens. It encourages
team work and reinforces skills the teens are discussing in therapy. A strong
teen rehab provides recreation and physical activity on a daily basis.
13. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Will the facility continue to provide support for my teen in order to help him keep up
with his recovery goals?
A teen rehab is only as strong as its robust aftercare program
14. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Is the program flexible?
Adolescents can change quickly. Programs need to offer responsive, individualized
programming that changes to meet the needs of each teen as his or her needs
change.
15. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Does the program encourage teamwork and participation?
You can force an adolescent to stay in treatment, but you can’t compel genuine
participation. Programs that encourage teen participation in treatment planning
and goal setting have a better chance of motivating lasting behavioral change.
16. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Does the teen addiction treatment center have a pool?
If you are surfing the web looking for a teen rehab and you come across a teen treatment center’s web
site featuring a gorgeous pool like the one above – find another rehab. If a rehab relies on superficial
features like a swimming pool then they are probably concentrating their efforts on marketing rather
then focusing on what’s most important – getting your teen better.
17. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Should I choose a rehab near my home or far away?
It is well worth the extra dollars to send your teen to an out-of-state teen rehab.
By taking your teen away from the environment in which he or she developed the
drug or alcohol addiction, can greatly assist in the recovery process.
18. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Does the teen treatment center have a strong track record?
You want to select a teen rehab with a strong reputation that shows up on Google and has
appeared frequently in the media as industry experts in their profession.
19. Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Teen
Treatment Center
Can the treatment center perform Interventions?
In some instances parents do not have the capabilities of sending their teen to a rehab
due to a myriad of reasons including fear of their son or daughter. A teen treatment
center with a professional interventionist can allow the parents to receive the assistance
required to help their teen get better by performing an intervention and then bringing the
child over to the treatment facility.
