2. How is my magazine designed to attract
and address my target audience.
My magazines point of sale is local stores and supermarkets such as TESCOS and
local news agents this is because both of these places are easily accessible to my
target audience. My magazine covers masthead is bold and short. Because of this
when the magazine is on a stand the masthead stands out and can catch my target
audiences attention. My magazines cover will also attract my audience although its
not using direct mode of address the image does appeal to my audience.
The colour scheme and font styles tell the audience YOU MUST READ THIS ISSUE
gripping my audience into my magazine. The colours of my magazine (yellows
black ect. ) follow the conventions of already existing rock magazines meaning
mine will appeal to my TA. This also applies to the fonts I use appealing to my
target audience in the same way the colours do.
The articles and content within my magazine is also heavily focused on my desired
target audiences being unique to them to stand out from other magazines out
there.
3. The content of my magazine appeals to my audience because my magazine
concentrates its content to appeal to my audience for example including articles and
information and artists, music and bands that my target audience is interested in and
will make them want to read my magazine.
My magazine is the type of magazine that acts as a bridge between my target audience
and there interests acting as the gate between them trying to be the best magazine out
there for this kind of information.
The language in my magazine is also focused to my target audience. Using more formal
however still friendly and relaxed language to approach a more mature audience,
rather than childish slang you would find in say a girls teen magazine. Using
sophisticated specialist language as well when appropriate to again appeal to a more
mature audience that understands the terms used in the magazine, for example using
correct language when talking about a guitar.
The attitude is also focused and centred for a more mature older audience as well
having longer more in-depth articles about bands events etc. Without having loads and
loads of bright overpowering images.
4. The unique selling point of my magazine is the mix of metal music and rock music.
Most music magazines focus on one main genre of music, for example Metal Hammer
– metal music and Kerrang! – rock music. However my magazine brings both of these
genres into one magazine because although they are different genres of music
studies on audiences that follow one of these genres of music also likes the other
making it a good combination for one magazine.
Having both genres in one magazine not only appeals to a larger audience but it
also gives the magazine more content and variety with its articles.
Research shows that people who buy rock or metal music magazines also spend
money on buying the other, my magazine stops them from needing to buy more than
one magazine because my magazine covers both causing my target audience to want
to buy my magazine.
During the production process of my magazine I asked some members of my desired
target audience what they though of combining the genres into one magazine
although I had some responses that were not so positive saying they only wanted one
genre as the main focus of a magazine most people said it was a great idea having
more content in one magazine and standing out from already existing competition
on the market currently.
