your daily life as a family member, friend,
student, coach, player, teacher and teammate.
One of your most difficult challenges as a leader will be
to reorient and re-ignite your team after a tough setback.
It is important to set a standard for being a leader during
difficult situation. Understanding the following steps will
help you work with others when setbacks occur.

yourself and reflect on what you as leader can do better
to continue to achieve despite any setbacks.

4. Achievers reject rejection1
When faced with failure, we either internalize and blame ourselves or
externalize and blame someone else. Fight the temptation to place
blame, and take full responsibility, but do not take it personally.

5. Achievers see failure as temporary2
It’s the leader's responsibility to keep hope alive. Winston Churchill’s
famous speech consisted of only two words; never quit! Keep trying,
remain optimistic beyond understanding and believe in the potential
of self and team.

6. Achievers see failure as isolated incidents3
Generalization is losing thinking; because one scenario ended in
failure does not mean failure lasts forever. Don’t let a single incident
affect your view of yourself.

7. Achievers keep expectations realistic4
The greater the goal, the greater need for perseverance. Most goals
worth accomplishing are difficult. Pay attention to goal setting to not
make goals too difficult to achieve.

8. Achievers focus on strengths5
What distinguishes winners from losers is that winners concentrate
on what they can do, not on what they cannot do. Most people wallow
in their circumstances believing that they are unchangeable, but
leaders identify strength areas to ensure that goals are achieved.

If what is being tried does not work, try a different approach. Leaders
understand that to change results, it takes changing approaches and
innovative thinking.

Achievers keep moving forward no matter what and realize that
failures today will provide the lessons that stimulate success down
the road.
