The Theory Of Corporate Management
Summary: (Zahraa)
Corporate management has evolved over the years becoming a complicated process even to the
most refined managers. Classical management styles can no longer be relied upon to organize
efficiently the several factors that come into play in the modern business world.
Meijer Company is no exception and therefore specialized and thoroughly researched management
methods are required to solve the ever changing corporate world. Tools that guide critical thinking
in business management are thus essential for Meijer.
Combinations of SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threat) and PESTLE (Political,
Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental) analysis come in handy in the
management of Meijer Company. They were especially helpful with aligning project plans with the
company vision and mission and its core values of customer satisfaction, innovation, and teamwork.
Lewin s Force Field Analysis is important in countering opposition to change. It is also crucial in
effecting the necessary changes required in Meijer s management. The Porter s five
macroeconomic forces explain the performance of an organization regarding various market
characteristics such as the power to bargain by both suppliers and buyers.
Introduction: (Aziz)
Meijer is a family owned business that used to be a small grocery store. It was founded in 1936,
and today is considered the 19th largest privately held company in the country. They now have
over 200 stores across six states in

The Death Of Jacob Patrick Sommers
Once upon a time in a land far, far away, there lived a farm boy, his name was Jacob Patrick
Sommers. He was a tall, 17 year old boy with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. Jacob lived
with his younger sister, Lillian, his Mother and his Father. Although his family may not have
had a lot of money, they were still very happy because they had each other. He lived in a quaint
village with a population of only a few thousand people. The king had created this village for all the
people who could barely afford to live. It was filled with people from all over the kingdom, and
every now and then, a new house would be built and a new family would move in. Jacob got so
engrossed in his work while only making small talk with his father. Before... Show more content on

The giants came, they looked through the window to find where everyone was and then reached
through the roof and grabbed mom and dad! Lillian said with panic. Well we MUST go find
them! said Jacob. We will depart in the morning, for now, Lillian you need to get some rest. The
next morning, Jacob was up bright and early starting to pack some things that would be useful
while he let Lillian sleep. He packed some fruit, bread, a couple of sweaters and as much water
as they could carry alongside everything else. When Lillian woke up, they got some breakfast
and took off on the mission to find their parents. Jacob how long have we been walking for?
Lillian complains as Jacob looks at the sun. I don t know, I d say 2 hours maybe. responds Jacob
simply. Just as Jacob is finished talking, they come across a forest. This forest is unlike any
other, the trees are unusually thick, the beautifully scented flowers on the ground are off and on
glowing a strong blue hue, and the bushes are covered in a berry Jacob doesn t seem to
recognize. The two glance at each other, then slowly and cautiously embark into the mysterious
forest. Hello friends! someone says as the kids are only a few steps into the forest. How are you
today? Ah! They shout as they turn around to the source of the voice. Who are you and what do
you want? Jacob questions the half man half horse. I am Clyde, Guardian of the Forest.

Naturalist Themes In Stephen Crane s A Mystery Of Heroism
Naturalism Essay Stephen Crane is a Naturalist. Naturalists believe an individual s life is
determined by environment, chance, and heredity. They also believe that free will is an illusion
and that people should endure their suffering with quiet dignity. Lastly, Naturalists believe survival
of the fittest and natural selection govern people as well as nature, and people resort to the animal
during a crisis. Crane uses literary elements to create Naturalist themes in A Mystery of Heroism
and An Episode of War. Although both of the stories have Naturalist themes, Crane uses different
elements to create them. In Crane s A Mystery of Heroism he uses literary elements to create
Naturalist themes. One main belief of Naturalists is that someone s life is determined by
environment, chance, and heredity. Crane uses the setting and characters to create this theme. In the
story it says, Too, he wondered why he did not feel some keen agony of fear cutting his sense like
a knife. This quote shows that the main characteris not afraid. The setting of the war is one of the
reasons he does not feel fear. He has probably been in a more fearful situation since he has been
in the war. If he had not been a soldier and been in this setting he would be more fearful. Crane
uses characters to create this main idea by showing the other characters who argue with Collins
until he goes to the well. In A Mystery of Heroism it says, Of course, yeh will! Yeh ll run through
that there

Cannabinoid Analysis
Paul Armentano talked about if there should be limits on the amount of cannabinoids in a person s
bodily system when they drive a motor vehicle. The article was published by the Humboldt Journal
Of Social Relations. This journal went on to discuss that THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid
however, that it can stay in your system longer than you are actually under the high. (Armentano,
2013). However, unlike in the case of alcohol, these peaks THC/blood levels do not typically
correspond with a subject s maximum level of behavioral impairment. In a clinical setting, it has
been documented that subjects exhibit little psychomotor impairment during the initial fifteen
minutes immediately following cannabisinhalation, despite maximum concentrations... Show more

According to a Cato Institute study done by Jeffery Miron and Katherine Waldock discussed the
impact to the budget if the government were to legalize drugs and to end the prohibition of the
substances. The study estimates that approximately 41 billion would be saved by the
government while drug legalization would see an increase in revenue of about 43 billion
dollars. (Miron, 2010). In order to come up with these numbers they looked at the amount of
people getting arrested for drug use and found that 82.5 percent of all drug related arrests were
only for simple possession and of those 82.5 percent of arrests 42.1 percent were just for people
arrested for marijuana. (Miron, 2010) However, if the United States were to just legalize
marijuana, it would still reduce the prison rates and would still bring in close to 20 billion dollars
in saved and earned revenue from the legalization. It seems to me that the most fiscally responsible
governmental action people can take is to legalize the sale and use of

Lucid Dreaming
Telling between what reality is and what is not reality has become nearly impossible because of
technology. Reality is defined as the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as
opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them or as the state or quality of having existence or
substance . Because of its ability to creates a perfectly idealistic world, Technology has changed
our relationship to reality by blurring the lines between what is real and what is not real.
In a dream, we can be running from a great T rex or we can be flying above our old childhood
home. However, during these dreams, we mostly do not notice these extreme situations as unusual.

Some cyborgs have more of their original bodies than others, but in the end, are super enhanced
beings through the power of technology. During one of the scenes held in the Section 9
headquarters, there are officials, employees, cyborgs, and scientists all working side by side
toward one goal. The fully human people live their lives as they please and so do the cyborgs;
they can be considered one in the same. The cyborgs live in a reality that consists of the cyber
world whereas the humans lived only in the real world. Computers and technology was initially
the thing the bridged the two worlds together. Everyone has their own reality and their own set
of personal experiences. In Ghost in the shell, it is impossible to tell where on reality ends and
the other begins because the cyber world and the real world are forever integrated. The cyborgs
can be seen as a metaphor for the combination of the real human world and the virtual world. In
another scene, the main protagonist Motoko is in pursuit of a criminal. As Motoko is driving the
vehicle down the busy streets, she is able to tap into a system of information through a plug in the
back of her neck. Through this plug, she is able to find the coordinates of the person she is
chasing; all the while operating the vehicle she is in with her mind. As she approaches the man she

How Can Plot Machines Uplift A Nation
Can Slot Machines Uplift a Nation? When the subject of Native Americans or Indian reservations
is brought up most people bring casino gambling to mind. Approximately five hundred and sixty
tribes are recognized by the federal government, and only about one third conduct casino style
gambling. (Light and Rand 9) Reservations are sovereign nations, meaning tribes are Dependent on
and subordinate to, only the federal government, not the states. (Light and Rand 36) This has been
the tribes Ace in the hole that has allowed many reservations to prosper through the operation of
casinos. Politics, crime, addiction, even suicide can all be tied to casinos on Indian reservations, as
can better living conditions, basic health care, higher... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From an moral standpoint the IGRA was created to keep in check the ethics of gambling in
casinos but we find that the IGRA does not create the greatest amount of utility for tribes, but
restricts their rights and gives an unfair advantage to state government. The IGRA is unethical in
regards to tribes operating casinos on reservations. Since the settlement of America, Native
Americans have received the short end of the stick. Settlers continuously encroached upon Native
American land, completely disregarding the fact the Indians were there first. After years of
displacing the Indians and fighting with them, the government allotted reservations for the Indians
to call their own. Now that tribes have been finally given a chance at economic development,
many reservations have taken advantage of casinos to provide a better life for tribal members.
Moral issues have been brought up, from government to non Native Americans. Even tribal
members argue the moral issues. People who are fighting this are fighting it for a variety of
reasons. It s just how it would change the whole community, the flavor. Having a 24 7 bright lights,
honky tonk feel, it s just not what people want. Says Susie Dewberry, a Suislaw tribal member.
(Pittenger) One of the great benefits the casinos have created is employment for many Native
Americans.

Makro, a whole sale retail outlet holds 16% of the market share (Jitpleecheep, 2014: Appendix B).
The retail industry of Thailand accounts up to 1.4 trillion baht, which is close to 27 billion pounds.
40% of 1.4 trillion baht is from the modern trade which incorporates the major hypermarkets and
their online shopping websites (Appendix C). It is expected that over time, the market of the retail
industry is to grow by 3% to 5% each year, thereby a consistent competition is expected for Tesco
Lotus and Big C super centres. In terms of online market, the global online grocery sales
accounted for only 4% of all food retailers (Mintel, 2014; Appendix D). The internet has indeed
penetrated greatly into Thai consumers. Currently over 31% of the consumers use the internet,
with majority of them being within the age group of 15 to 29 years old (Appendix E). It is easily
anticipate that consumers are continue to increase with internet usage rates thereby opening up a
market for selling grocery items for online users. By 2012, Nielsen (2011) states that the e
commerce business in Thailand would reach close to 9 billion Baht which is approximately 173
million pounds. A research conducted by Kasikorn Thai Research (2012), a leading commercial
bank in Thailand, suggested that a gain in 5% is expected each year for this market. This opens up
opportunities for hypermarkets to take their markets online.

Musical Theatre
An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best
performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on
paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical
theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the
backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on
paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that
the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone,
and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content

That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character,
because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their
character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on
Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from
year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact
same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character
in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my
performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between
two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted
and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith
played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines
differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and
personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a
text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one
is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings,
emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s
shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in
the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to
relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who
never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist

Pros And Cons Of Permanent Life Insurance
According to Fundamentals of Financial Planning, life insurance is divided into two categories,
term and permanent (Dalton, Gillice, Dalton Longdon, 2015, pp.224 225). Term life is insurance
for a certain period of time, and provides benefits for a limited amount at death, provided death
occurs within the policy s timeframe. On the other hand, permanent life insurancesuch as universal,
variable and hybrids of the two, have components that include death benefits as well as a saving
and/or investment components. While there are pros and cons for both types of insurance, as a

According to an article in the Review of Behavioral Finance, there are implications that the drive
for purchasing one type of insurance versus another type of insurance is psychologically and
emotionally based (Brighetti, Lucarelli, Marinelli, 2014, p.136). The authors state that, individuals
often link insurance payments to factors that plausibly track an underlying emotional need
coverage (p.137). Therefore a perceived transfer of risk, based on previous events and/or thoughts
of these events, are driving forces. For this reason, managing coverage should take a two fold

Great Rulers and What Makes Them Successful
What makes a great ruler? Several great powers in history including Cyrus of Persia, T ai tsung,
the Duke of Valentine, and Agathocles will be analyzed in order to attempt to answer this question.
Based on three readings, these questions will be answered:
1.What are the personal qualities of Cyrus and T ai tsung? What is it about these personal qualities
that made them successful rulers?
2.How does Machiavelli portray the Duke of Valentine and Agathocles? Does he consider them
good or bad rulers? Why?

Gun Weapons Of The United States
There is an estimated 300 million registered gun owners in the United States. With that many
Americans owning guns, its not a surprise nearly 68% of all homicides reported to the FBI
involved firearms. It s a good thing the forensics of firearms has advanced to a point that with just
a single round recovered, ballistic experts can tell investigators, what caliber round was fired what
type of weapon fired the round, and in some cases the distance at which the round was fired.
Without such advancement, more murderers would be walking free.
When arriving to a crime scene where weapons are present, safety is always top priority. Treat
every firearm as if it is loaded. When deciding to unload a weapon you always want to do so with
the utmost care, to preserve all types of evidence. This evidence includes fingerprints, blood,
hair or fibers, cylinder halos and debris in the barrel and /or cylinder.(www.crime scene

collection. If the collector is unsure of the proper procedure, assistance should be sought from a
competent source such as a firearms instructor, departmental armorer, or an on site firearm

the cylinder it should be marked to indicate its position as found. This can be done by two pen or

Organizational Change In The American Colonies
Change is inevitable (Ecclesiastes 3, NIV) and that timing is a critical part of this process, which
according to Burke (2013) can be either revolutionary or evolutionary. Organizational change, the
outgrowth of strategic thinking and planning often competes with strong human emotion
(Wimberly, 2007) and behaviors that often put up a valent fight and resistance to changing attitudes
and values in favor of a new culture (Burke, 2013), irrespective of the outcome, which could be
permanent (Beach, 2006). For example, Great Britain, as an organization, resisted revolutionary
changewhen the American colonies refused to submit to the taxation without representation, which
led to strong emotions, resistance, a valent fight (the Revolutionary War).

Paper On Birth Control
Birth Control has been a topic of debate for years. Nevertheless, several issues and opinions arise
when talking about it. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth
control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and
sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, more than 43 million women of reproductive age
are sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who
do not want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception. (qtd. in Birth control1).
Birth Control was created by Margaret Sanger, who worked as a nurse in her early years ( Birth
control 2). In her career as a nurse, she came across women who had tried to perform abortions
on themselves and died from it. That is when she began working towards something that would
change the lives of women and give them more options than the ones that were presented at the
time. Sanger had formed a partnership with Katherine McCormick, a wealthy widow, who used
part of her substantial fortune to fund the extensive research needed before a reliable pill could be
approved. ( Birth Control 2). The Birth Control pill was not easily accessible and was distributed
unevenly until 1965.
Furthermore the Connecticut v. Griswold case took place in 1965 and is a significant case in the
United States. Moreover, this case emphasizes the right to privacy. The United States Supreme

because she showed her creativity by following the script of Deepa Mehta s controversial film
Water . We can analyze her natural creativity in this novel. She is also called a feminist because
almost in every novel, her concern is women. She wants that women should be equally treated in a
society. They should be given equal rights as men have. She is against the patriarchal society. She
is praised in New York Times

I Am A Liberal Conservative Is More Open Minded Than Some...
I am a Liberal. A Liberal is more open minded than some other political ideologies. They believe
we should all be equal and have the same opportunities in life. The government should help us so
we can all be financially stable. Things like health care and food stamps are important because
the government should help all of us, if we cannot do that for ourselves. Although liberals want
help from the government they don t believe they should control what we do in our personal
lives. They are very big advocators for women s rights for this reason. Focusing on actual
government, a big belief is that federal government should have more say over citizens instead of
letting state government have control over what we do. Along with having laws they believe
more laws will help us. It is a way to keep people in line and provide equal opportunity for
everyone. I identify as a liberalbut I don t hold all the same beliefs as the typical liberals. I come
from a big Hispanic Catholic family; I am one of five children. Growing up I would stay with
my grandmother most weekends because my house was always so hectic. I obviously was taken
to church every Sunday with her, where we would meet with the rest of my family. I would attend
my Communion classes before we went to mass. I remember my teachers always telling us how
loving and accepting God is. We would sing and color all through class, everything just seemed
perfect. When the priest would preach during mass he would say how forgiving

Drinking Water Lead Contaminated Water
In Flint Michigan, nearly 100,000 residents are drinking lead contaminated water. (QuickFacts).
We are not discussing a third world country on the other side of the globe, but rather a city in the
United States. It would seem as though the land of opportunity, and the land many flee too should
be able to provide clean drinking water. However, in the United States 310,000 children aged 1 5
are found with an unsafe level of lead running through their blood stream. (Lead 8). In Flintalone,
8,000 children under the age of six have been exposed to harmful levels of lead. The agencies and
government that was put into place to protect the public from these issues is often turning a blind
eye, and often allowing the public to continue to drink this contaminated water. A major part of the
problem is that lead water pipes run throughout cities across the United States. Although it would
very expensive to replace all the water pipes running through Flint, not replacing the pipes could
potentially continue to do more harm to the ecosystems, and to the communities they are in. (rst2)
In April of 2014 due to financial reasons Flint s water supply source was temporarily switched
from the Detroit system to the Flint River. (CNN 2). The water was then found highly corrosive.
The Department of Environmental Quality did not treat the corrosion going against federal law.
When Flint switched their water supply back to Lake Huron in October it was already too late. The

The Wise Man s Fear Summary
I am not a critic. While I do mentally analyze and evaluate the works that I read, watch, or play, I
am not one to needlessly pick at pin sized plot holes (Alliteration) in a story or obnoxiously point
out discontinuities between episodes. With this notion held forthright in mind, I can safely say that
I have immensely enjoyed what I have read of Patrick Rothfusss The Wise Man s Fear, the second
volume in the Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy. Currently, the protagonist Kvothe is attempting to
illegally trade materials he smuggled from the University, test his fortitude against a fellow student
that is attempting to kill him from the inside out, and set fire to the rooms of said fellow student. In
short, it is quite an exhilarating tale. If I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it be for the wittiness of Kvothe, the attention to detail, or the strong relationships between the
characters, The Wise Man s Fear is one of the best fantasy novels I have read in years. I would
recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this particular genre, and perhaps even to the ones
that do not. It is not simply a story, but a wondrous tale of epic proportion. The Lord of the Rings

Advantages Of Tqm
TQM is a way of life for a company. It has to be introduced and led by top management. This is a
key point. Attempts to implement TQM often fail because top management doesn t lead and get
committed instead it delegates and pays lip service. Commitment and personal involvement is
required from top managementin creating and deploying clear quality values and goals consistent
with the objectives of the company, and in creating and deploying well defined systems, methods
and performance measures for achieving those goals. These systems and methods guide all quality
activities and encourage participation by all employees. The development and use of performance

An open, cooperative culture has to be created by management. Employees have to be made to feel
that they are responsible for customer satisfaction. They are not going to feel this if they are
excluded from the development of visions, strategies, and plans. It s important they participate in
these activities. They are unlikely to behave in a responsible way if they see management behaving
irresponsibly saying one thing and doing the opposite.
Product Development in a TQM Environment
Product development in a TQM environment is very different to product development in a non
TQM environment. Without a TQM approach, product development is usually carried on in a
conflictual atmosphere where each department acts independently. Short term results drive behavior
so scrap, changes, work around, waste, and rework are normal practice. Management focuses on
supervising individuals, and fire fighting is necessary and rewarded.
Product development in a TQM environment is customer driven and focused on quality. Teams are
process oriented, and interact with their internal customers to deliver the required results.

Herbert Hoover s Influence On The New Deal
The presidency of Herbert Hoover was ended in 1933 and was succeeded by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt who was much more active and radical. President Roosevelt was the governor of New
York before he was elected as a president where he introduced some radical programs to relieve
New York citizens from the Great Depression. During his presidency, he enlarges his radical
scheme in the whole nation and stabilizes the economy of the nation. He calls his radical scheme
the New Dealthrough which he addresses the three weak economic waves; agriculture, banking, and
unemployment.
President Roosevelt took immediate action to address the country s economic woes, first
announcing a four day bank holiday during which all banks would close so that Congress could
pass reform legislation and reopen those banks determined to be sound. He began addressing the
general public by giving speeches in radio, and these fireside chat went a long way towards
restoring public confidence. The establishment of FDIC in 1933 insured the bank money and

Federal Deposit Insurance System
Many nations have implemented deposit insurance for the protection of the depositors from losses
that result from the inability of a bank to meet its debts. As an element of safety net in the banking
system, deposit insurance is meant to increase financial stability. A Deposit Insurance system
(DIS) main objective is to make sure that that firms and households do not loose savings as well as
deposits they hold in banks in case of bankinsolvency (Fdic.gov, 2014). It creates some confidence
within the financial system and promotes favorable services by banks. Therefore, DIS is not meant
just for the protection of depositors in a single bank but also ensure overall financial stability.

In the 1930s, there were major troubles in financial markets in the US and the 1929 crash led to the

The Disappointment By Aphra Behn
Throughout The Disappointment , Aphra Behn critics the established gender roles in the
society particularly sexually. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the
male figure and Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of
desire while Lisander can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles
in society. The first stanza reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete
control on his body. Indeed, the fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an
impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and
controls him while it should be the opposite. This situation questions the male identity because
Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the
end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to live in this world which shows that
she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her. Behn writes that [Lisander]
was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But what from Cloris
brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). There is an imagery there which the opposition between the fact
that Lisander has no light and Cloris has bright eyes. It shows that in their relationship, the woman

dependant of men because of their lower social status,

Religious Symbolism In Waiting For Godot
In Waiting for Godot, Samuel Beckett produces a truly cryptic work. On first analyzing the play,
one is not sure of what, if anything, happens or of the title character s significance. In attempting
to unravel the themes of the play, interpreters have extracted a wide variety symbolism from the
Godot s name. Some, taking an obvious hint, have proposed that Godot represents God and that
the play is centered on religious symbolism. Others have taken the name as deriving from the
French word for a boot, godillot. Still, others have suggested a connection between Godot and
Godeau, a character who never appears in Honore de Balzac s Mercadet; Ou, le faiseur. Through
all these efforts, there is still no definitive answer as to whom or what Godot... Show more content

While the play contains obvious ambiguities into the word s meaning, they are all for show. There
is no real meaning. The interpretation of Godot s religious significance, while this significance is
clearly alluded to, leads to interpreter into a long, blind alley of meaninglessness. Just as Estragon s
boots contain nothing inside them, there is no central meaning to the word Godot. Furthermore,
this meaninglessness can be expanded to all of Beckett s language; full of hints of a greater
significance, language hides the triviality of all things described. Only after this revelation can one
finally get towards the central meaning of Beckett s play; there is no meaning. His characters
engage in ridiculous language to pass the time and to give [them] the impression [they] exist (44B).
Illusions of significance continue throughout the play, but, in truth, the play comes from nothing
and ultimately ends in nothing. Beckett exposes the pitfalls of a language that attempts to create
meaning when none exists. Waiting for Godot is not a commentary on religion or really anything for
that matter. Its meaning comes in its meaninglessness. That is the play s greater

Role Of Women In Sundiata
When it comes to the places and roles of women in Sundiata and in Malian society as depicted in
the book Sundiata, women are held in a place very much unattached and unequal to men. Their
roles, throughout the book, are defined only in relationship to men who hold higher positions of
authority and often control the women with whom they are in relations with. Basically, the
book takes place in a sort of patriarchal society while allowing women very few rights and
powers. Like I had said before, they essentially view the women as their relations and not very
much anything else. In this society women are also excluded from official positions of power.
To begin with, the epic in fact is related by a man, and there is not one indication of any woman
griots anywhere within the novel. Right after a recitation of the kings of Mali leading up to
Maghan Kon Fatta (Sundiata s father), a female character is mentioned for the first time: Oh that
woman! She is ugly, she is hideous, and she bares on her back a disfiguring hump. Her
monstrous eyes seem to have been merely laid on her face, but, mystery of mysteries, this is the
woman you must marry, sire, for she will be the mother of him who will make the name of Mali
immortal forever (Sundiata, 6). Seemingly right after the first female character is introduced, she is
picked apart describing her physical appearance, and then to her what would be future roles of wife
and mother. Admittedly, the prior is certainly to provide contrast

In another piece by Blackwell, The Development of Athenian Democracy, he writes, Shortly

Jessie Owens Stereotypes
Jessie Owens, who was a famous African American sprinter, fought back against Hitler s racial
stereotypes of Blacks by winning four gold medals and becoming one of the worlds most
successful athletes. Owens challenged Nazi ideology that African Americans were inferior
because he used his skill to win four gold medals, which disproved the idea that African
Americans were unsuccessful athletes. The biggest blow to Nazi ideology about African
Americans was that the German crowd treated Jessie Owens as a hero whereby they chanted
and cheered his name whenever he entered the arena, which was reported to embarrass Hitler. In
addition, Andre Kabos who was a Jewish Hungarian fencer almost gave up his fencing career
due to anti Jewish propaganda in Hungary and was pressured by Jewish organizations to boycott
the German games. However, Kabos chose to have one last run and performed in the 1936
Berlin games where he had his best performance ever and used his Jewish pride to strengthen his
motivation to beat a German fencer and won a Gold medal in fencing. Kabos completely
destroyed the Nazi ideology that Jews were the inferior race because not only did he win a gold
medal, but he single handily beat a bloody German! Later during the Holocaust, Kabos was
forced into a labour camp where he died, but to his grave he must have died with Jewish pride
because he defeated a German right in front of Hitler s eye s. Even though both Jessie Owen and

Which leads to the next song Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray. This song is incorporated
into the movie even more than Crazy in Love , being tied into the score as well as being
performed multiple times throughout the movie. Even though Crazy in Love demonstrates the
theme vaguely, this song is a much better fit for the overall movie. In fact, Young and Beautiful
was the leading single released from the soundtrack proving that it illustrated the movie well.
Young and Beautiful goes along with the context of the book as well, which beautifully
demonstrates the connection between Gatsby and Daisy. The song begins I ve seen the world
/done it all/had my cake now . From its very beginning the song embodies Gatsby s mindset. The
chorus of the song drifts more towards Daisy s perspective reading Will you still love me/when I
m no longer young and beautiful?/Will you still love me/when I got nothing but my aching soul?
This part of the song follows how Daisy must feel on the inside while being with Gatsby. As she
considers possibly leaving Tom, it only seems right to question if Gatsby is truly there for her.
However, the chorus then goes on to say I know you will/I know you will/I know that you will.
The second part of the chorus tells what Daisy was thinking when the proposition of being with
Gatsby was first put out there. Nonetheless, the reader knows that this doesn t hold up, but in the

Are the remains in Pompeii and indication of how the Ancient Romans lived? The city of Pompeii
has been frozen in time since the early afternoon of 24th August 79CE. A gigantic time capsule,
illustrating the everyday life of ancient Romans, has captured the last moments of at least two

What Were The Effects Of Counterculture In The 1960 s

1.1 Who are Hippies?
Hippies were people mostly of young age, who generally refused to be a part of established
institution. They were individuals and expressed it vividly through their wild and free lifestyle.
Hippies wanted to replace a disappointedly materialistic, corrupted society, which their ancestors
and parents had built for them, with an Utopian society. They opposed any action of harming and
killing, often reflected by their vegetarian diet, eco friendly practices and particularly protesting
against nuclear weapons, Vietnam War, Civil Rights movement during 1960s. Hippies sought for a

Should Civilians Be Killed In Total War Essay
Civilians, by name, should not have to suffer the effects of total war and should not be targeted in
total war. This, however, is a fanciful myth. If this myth was true, then nearly one half of the
deaths in WWI should have been avoided. Millions more people should be alive. Just because
people are civilians doesn t mean that they are immune to the effects of total war. If anything,
civilians are legitimate targets in total war, to be killed to cripple nations and end bloodshed.
Civilians can be targeted because they are a resource, they are on and actively supporting a hostile

This links to my other theme revenge, since it theirs pain that other family member experiences
that gives warrant to for character to seek revenge. As seen in my texts revenge is seen as a way
to satisfy ones emotions of anger and grief. It is important to note that these ideas are not old ones.
Both the idea of a strong family connection, and getting revenge is simply human nature. All four
texts show human nature at its finest. The variation of time periods of my texts back this up
because it shows how human nature has not changed from the 1700 s to now. Although human
nature can be a good thing in terms of protecting family and survival, it has its flaws. In all four
texts, my characters have based their decisions to seek revenge on their emotions. The irrational
decision that my characters make, are form of human nature also. Human are animals, and we
inherit animal instincts such as the ability to make mistakes. The texts I have selected teach us,
through the themes of revenge and family ,that making decisions based on emotions, instead of
using our brain is a dangerous thing to

Is Julius Caesar Arrogant Or Dangerous
The character Julius Caesar is presented as arrogant and dangerous in Act 1 of the play. Discuss.
Often called the great political thriller , the play Julius Caesar written by William Shakespeare
depicted the political world of ancient Rome. Throughout history, many historians and scholars
have argued upon whether Julius Caesar was a man of great military power and political influence
or a man trapped in his own personal weaknesses and complications. Of the many topics of debate,
the statement that Julius Caesar is presented as arrogant and dangerous in Act 1 of the play is not,
in the writer s opinion, a full perspective of him. Although he did illustrate signs of tyranny, Caesar
would often betray signs of weaknesses as well.
Shakespeare s Caesar dominated the play at the very beginning. Through the conversation of
Flavius, Murellus and certain commoners, the audience would quickly discover the fact that the

The first act of the play have illuminated his nobility in many ways. Domestically, he was faithful
to his wife, Calpurnia, and respected her advices and opinions. Shakespeare highlighted the
importance of Calpurnia to Caesar by designating Caesar s first word in the play to be Calpurnia .
Publically, he displayed honour and modesty. When Caesar was offered the crown thrice by his
fellow friend, Antony, Caesar put it by thrice, every time gentler than other.
Julius Caesar was not a tyrant, not a Roman as brave and respected as other characters such as
Brutus, and certainly not entirely presented as dangerous and arrogant in Act 1 of the play. Instead
he was a mixture of many characteristics that would later be the cause of much debate among
historians and Shakespearian scholars. It was the many aspects, noble and cowardly, of the
character of Julius Caesar that Shakespeare manipulated upon to create a play that still satisfies the
minds of readers who study it

Dante s Paradise Lost, And Homer s Iliad
Along with Milton s Paradise Lost and Homer s Iliad the Commedia of Dante Alighieri represents
the very pinnacle of poetic accomplishment. The essay will look at the Vita Nouva as the praise of
the miracle; for such was the marvelously beneficent lady, as long as she lived, as Dante often
affirms. And in this miracle one can recognized a material attestation of Eternal Truths. And the
divine comedyis the glorification of truth itself as revealed to Dante and subsequently to Dante s
readers now days. The Vita Nuova may be called the entrance of that solemn sanctuary, the Divine
Comedy. This essay will look at Beatrice named, the bringer of beatitude, and her smile. Also
Beatrice will be interpreted as the medium of beatitude itself to Dante the poet.
The great poet [Dante] may be held in due honour and that he may be for the pupils the teacher of
Christian doctrine, he whose one purpose in his poem was to raise mortals from the state of misery
that is from the state of sin, and lead them to the state of happiness, that is the divine Grace.
Echoing the words of Pope Benedict XV one can see that the principal aim of the sacred poem of
Dante is doubtless to point out to the people disposed to evil and deceived the way to salvation,
using as an example that which, under the vail of poetic imagery, that Dante gives one to
understand happened in his own soul. This is the inquiry intended in this analysis of the Vita
Nouva where Dante is the receiver of an epiphany

Elementary Hosts Popcorn At School
Every other Friday, Cascades Elementary hosts Popcorn Friday in their cafeteria. Volunteers come
and help make, bag, and distribute the salty snack to the classrooms. The line goes popcorn
machine, empty bags, bag folders and tape placers, finished bags, and classroom totes. However, to
make the line flow easily, the line might go; empty bags, popcornmachine, bag folders, tapers,
finished bags in lines of five, and the classroom totes that are brought up from the classroom. This
suggested lineup requires a volunteerto open bags and place them so the popcorn machine volunteer
is able to reach the paper bags, and possibly a couple more volunteers to ensure the supplies needed
never runs out and the flow is maintained. Unfortunately, many parents with nothing to do on
Fridays do not come to help.
On Popcorn Day, the volunteers meet at Cascades Elementary at eight in the morning in the
cafeteria after dropping their children off at school. One volunteer begins to heat up the popcorn
maker and make popcorn while a second volunteer sets out bags and a third sets out strips of tape
along the side of the table. After classes begin, the teacher selects two students to take the class
mesh tote and the popcorn money for the class to the cafeteria where the volunteers make the
popcorn. Once the students hand one of the volunteers the class tote and popcorn money, the
students are able to go back to class. The average popcorn bags requested by each classroom is

The Big Lebowski And Fargo Film Analysis
1.Analyze elements of postmodernism and the themes of the film illustrated in these clips from
CHILDREN OF MEN.
Children of Men is a perfect example of Postmodernism in film. It features apocalyptic stories and
setting, shown in both of the clips. In the first clip, the opening scene of the movie, we are
introduced to this world of infertility and grayness. Even before we see anything, audio of news
reports tell us of the world to expect in the film. In a dreary, gray toned cafГ©, people gather and
watch in silence as the news tells of the death of the youngest person alive. The somber
hopelessness and fear of the ever approaching end of humanity is clear. Theo is detached and cool

Adoption Of A New Ehr
Despite some barriers and challenges of EHR adoption, transitioning our office to paperless has
become inevitable. Timely adoption of EHR would help our clinic receive incentives, merge paper
records into the new database, and better organize patient information. In order to ensure the most
seamless implementation possible, meticulous planning will be a must.
First, the process of acquiring a new EHR system will start with developing an office strategy
based on different needs of our clinic. Some critical questions should be asked such as what would
be the main goal to go paperless, what would be some features that my clinicians regard important,
would my practitioners need a remote access, or would they be committed in learning and using ...

Anita Ground also stresses on the huge importance of this planning stage by using a concept of
system life cycle. It consists of feasibility study, analysis, design, programming, implementation,
and lastly maintenance (Ground, 2011, VA TMS training material). The analysis phase in
particular would coincide with what the author Yoshihashi is presenting in figuring out office
strategy and researching EHR options. Identification of stakeholders and system requirement
would play a critical role in EHR adoption (Ground, 2011). Stakeholders would include patients,
family, clinicians, billing, registration, and coding as well as the external users such as Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Bottom line is that
the new system being purchased would need to provide meaningful use to the clinic based on the
current certification standards.
Health information technology (HIT) consultants would be able to provide valuable guidance in
filtering information and narrowing the search down to a few that can work for this clinic. In order
to get the best recommendation among many vendors out there, the following information would
need to be provided and answered.

White Man s Burden
White Man s Burden
The movie we watched in class was called White Man s Burden. According to some sociologists
the white man s burden is an unwanted burden that white men, who are in the upper part of
society, must bring the minority classes up to their status. For example, if it were applied today
white folks would have to help bring black folks up into a higher class. While this theory was used
many years ago, it is still in consideration today.
This movie took a very unique approach. It separated two classes of people, whites and blacks.
They were separated by, what I believe is the greatest degree of separation today, money. In the
movie the only people in the upper class were black and the main family in the movie was ... Show

There were also three main instances of discrimination shown. One was when john Travolta was
fired from his job. He was told how much his work meant to the company and then was let go. A
black man was not let go. Also when Thad s son brought home a white girl to bring out to that
night, Thad s wife gave her son s date a dirty look. When Thad was shot at the end of the movie a
white insisted on getting help but once she saw that Thad was black she drove away.
I don t think that Thad thinks he is a racist. I believe that is he conditioned to truly believe that
white people were unable to be helped. Not at one point did he make a racist remark or act in a
racist way. He also spoke to John Travolta in a respectable way. Thad very well could have been
born into all his wealth. His understanding could be that whites are inferior because of the way he
was raised.
The theory I am going to apply for this movie is the theory of Max Weber. The underlining main
point to this theory is that, wealth plus power equals prestige. This can clearly be show by Thad
and his life style. Look at all the money he has. Everyone knows him and he seem to have no
worries. All his social setting were laid back and full of laughter. He has a beautiful family which
never seems to have any problems. He drives a nice car and has a mansion.
John Travolta on the other hand, who is human just like him doesn t have quite as good. His family
life is struggling. Travolta and his wife

many toys that help boost creativity and imagination in young children. Legos and other toys that

Improving Health Care Standards Of The United States
It had been found that healthcare quality in the United States is substandard and that the
acknowledgment of needed healthcare varies extensively. While it is recognized that even the most

so will reduce risk. Pursuing accreditation unveils a pledge to the improvement of quality in health

The Battle Of The Algiers Essay
Terrifying and placid and terrifying because of its placidity, the plot unfolds gracefully: a
beautiful twenty something Islamic woman, dressed in a Western ensemble, arrives at a chic
and exclusively French cafГ© in Algiers. She walks into the cafГ©, orders a classic Coca Cola,
and discreetly places her explosive toting handbag on the ground. A few sips of the cola and the
disguised Algerian woman heads out, with surveying eyes gazing about the happy French faces
which will be no longer in just moments. The bomb explodes, killing several French lives, and
striking a small victory in the overall battle of the FLN against France in reclaiming their own land.
This scene peeks into the later victory of the anti hero in Gillo Pontecorvos The Battle of the
Algiers. The film paints a largely accurate picture of popular support for the FLN. While Algeria
can be seen as being depicted as a terrorist nation, employing low and grimy tactics against France,
the viewer can t help but sympathize, and even root for the underdog. The film highlights the
misery within the poor peasantry of the Algerian lifestyle in their home country. We are introduced
to Ali La Pointe in the opening scene, cramped in a literal hole in a wall, hiding from execution
from the French government. The conditions of the home are grotesque and while you don t know
much about what is to come, you know you wish you could better the situation of La Pointe and the

Catcher In The Rye Character Analysis
The Catcher In The Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield who got kicked
out of Pencey Prep, a private school for boys. Throughout the story Holden shows his dislike for
society because he believes that it corrupts the innocent. Some people might say that Holden
doesnВґt understand that as an adult, most innocent people stay innocent and he is just
judgemental of all the people around him. Salinger suggests that in order to transition to the adult
world properly, an individual must understand that we change and most become corrupt. Holden

In his mind, his brother was totally innocent and could do no wrong. Typically when someone
dies, their relatives try to remember only the good parts of their relationship and life. Holden
doesn t seem to understand that Allie and Jane don t stay innocent as they approach adulthood.
Not everyone is perfect, but he regards them as so wanting them to stay that way. In another
way, Holden is calling everyone that is insincere that are more interested in playing a part than
being themselves a phony. It starts with Ossenburger, a man who donated money to the school
and had a wing named after him. He showed up to a football game in his Cadillac and Holden
could just see the big phony bastard shifting into first gear and asking Jesus to send him a few
more stiffs. (20) As he is talking about this man he keeps judging him for flaunting his money in
other s faces. He drives a Cadillac and gives big speeches but says that he s just a normal guy like
the rest of them. Typically, when a person has more money than other they flaunt it as much as
they can. As he is talking about the school and about how they have been molding boys into men
since 1888 he mentions that even the principal s daughter knew what a phony slob be was. (5) He
says that the school is nothing like they advertise and that they don t do any molding. The principal

  • 2. The Theory Of Corporate Management Summary: (Zahraa) Corporate management has evolved over the years becoming a complicated process even to the most refined managers. Classical management styles can no longer be relied upon to organize efficiently the several factors that come into play in the modern business world. Meijer Company is no exception and therefore specialized and thoroughly researched management methods are required to solve the ever changing corporate world. Tools that guide critical thinking in business management are thus essential for Meijer. Combinations of SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threat) and PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental) analysis come in handy in the management of Meijer Company. They were especially helpful with aligning project plans with the company vision and mission and its core values of customer satisfaction, innovation, and teamwork. Lewin s Force Field Analysis is important in countering opposition to change. It is also crucial in effecting the necessary changes required in Meijer s management. The Porter s five macroeconomic forces explain the performance of an organization regarding various market characteristics such as the power to bargain by both suppliers and buyers. Introduction: (Aziz) Meijer is a family owned business that used to be a small grocery store. It was founded in 1936, and today is considered the 19th largest privately held company in the country. • 3. The Death Of Jacob Patrick Sommers Once upon a time in a land far, far away, there lived a farm boy, his name was Jacob Patrick Sommers. He was a tall, 17 year old boy with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. Jacob lived with his younger sister, Lillian, his Mother and his Father. Although his family may not have had a lot of money, they were still very happy because they had each other. He lived in a quaint village with a population of only a few thousand people. The king had created this village for all the people who could barely afford to live. It was filled with people from all over the kingdom, and every now and then, a new house would be built and a new family would move in. Jacob got so engrossed in his work while only making small talk with his father. Before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The giants came, they looked through the window to find where everyone was and then reached through the roof and grabbed mom and dad! Lillian said with panic. Well we MUST go find them! said Jacob. We will depart in the morning, for now, Lillian you need to get some rest. The next morning, Jacob was up bright and early starting to pack some things that would be useful while he let Lillian sleep. He packed some fruit, bread, a couple of sweaters and as much water as they could carry alongside everything else. When Lillian woke up, they got some breakfast and took off on the mission to find their parents. Jacob how long have we been walking for? Lillian complains as Jacob looks at the sun. I don t know, I d say 2 hours maybe. responds Jacob simply. Just as Jacob is finished talking, they come across a forest. This forest is unlike any other, the trees are unusually thick, the beautifully scented flowers on the ground are off and on glowing a strong blue hue, and the bushes are covered in a berry Jacob doesn t seem to recognize. The two glance at each other, then slowly and cautiously embark into the mysterious forest. Hello friends! someone says as the kids are only a few steps into the forest. How are you today? Ah! They shout as they turn around to the source of the voice. Who are you and what do you want? Jacob questions the half man half horse. I am Clyde, Guardian of the Forest. ... • 5. Naturalist Themes In Stephen Crane s A Mystery Of Heroism Naturalism Essay Stephen Crane is a Naturalist. Naturalists believe an individual s life is determined by environment, chance, and heredity. They also believe that free will is an illusion and that people should endure their suffering with quiet dignity. Lastly, Naturalists believe survival of the fittest and natural selection govern people as well as nature, and people resort to the animal during a crisis. Crane uses literary elements to create Naturalist themes in A Mystery of Heroism and An Episode of War. Although both of the stories have Naturalist themes, Crane uses different elements to create them. In Crane s A Mystery of Heroism he uses literary elements to create Naturalist themes. One main belief of Naturalists is that someone s life is determined by environment, chance, and heredity. Crane uses the setting and characters to create this theme. In the story it says, Too, he wondered why he did not feel some keen agony of fear cutting his sense like a knife. This quote shows that the main characteris not afraid. The setting of the war is one of the reasons he does not feel fear. He has probably been in a more fearful situation since he has been in the war. If he had not been a soldier and been in this setting he would be more fearful. Crane uses characters to create this main idea by showing the other characters who argue with Collins until he goes to the well. In A Mystery of Heroism it says, Of course, yeh will! Yeh ll run through that there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article was published by the Humboldt Journal Of Social Relations. This journal went on to discuss that THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid however, that it can stay in your system longer than you are actually under the high. (Armentano, 2013). However, unlike in the case of alcohol, these peaks THC/blood levels do not typically correspond with a subject s maximum level of behavioral impairment. In a clinical setting, it has been documented that subjects exhibit little psychomotor impairment during the initial fifteen minutes immediately following cannabisinhalation, despite maximum concentrations... According to a Cato Institute study done by Jeffery Miron and Katherine Waldock discussed the impact to the budget if the government were to legalize drugs and to end the prohibition of the substances. The study estimates that approximately 41 billion would be saved by the government while drug legalization would see an increase in revenue of about 43 billion dollars. (Miron, 2010). In order to come up with these numbers they looked at the amount of people getting arrested for drug use and found that 82.5 percent of all drug related arrests were only for simple possession and of those 82.5 percent of arrests 42.1 percent were just for people arrested for marijuana. (Miron, 2010) However, if the United States were to just legalize marijuana, it would still reduce the prison rates and would still bring in close to 20 billion dollars in saved and earned revenue from the legalization. It seems to me that the most fiscally responsible governmental action people can take is to legalize the sale and use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reality is defined as the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them or as the state or quality of having existence or substance . Because of its ability to creates a perfectly idealistic world, Technology has changed our relationship to reality by blurring the lines between what is real and what is not real. Some cyborgs have more of their original bodies than others, but in the end, are super enhanced beings through the power of technology. During one of the scenes held in the Section 9 headquarters, there are officials, employees, cyborgs, and scientists all working side by side toward one goal. The fully human people live their lives as they please and so do the cyborgs; they can be considered one in the same. The cyborgs live in a reality that consists of the cyber world whereas the humans lived only in the real world. Computers and technology was initially the thing the bridged the two worlds together. Everyone has their own reality and their own set of personal experiences. In Ghost in the shell, it is impossible to tell where on reality ends and the other begins because the cyber world and the real world are forever integrated. The cyborgs can be seen as a metaphor for the combination of the real human world and the virtual world. In another scene, the main protagonist Motoko is in pursuit of a criminal. As Motoko is driving the vehicle down the busy streets, she is able to tap into a system of information through a plug in the back of her neck. Through this plug, she is able to find the coordinates of the person she is chasing; all the while operating the vehicle she is in with her mind. Approximately five hundred and sixty tribes are recognized by the federal government, and only about one third conduct casino style gambling. (Light and Rand 9) Reservations are sovereign nations, meaning tribes are Dependent on and subordinate to, only the federal government, not the states. From an moral standpoint the IGRA was created to keep in check the ethics of gambling in casinos but we find that the IGRA does not create the greatest amount of utility for tribes, but restricts their rights and gives an unfair advantage to state government. The IGRA is unethical in regards to tribes operating casinos on reservations. Since the settlement of America, Native Americans have received the short end of the stick. Settlers continuously encroached upon Native American land, completely disregarding the fact the Indians were there first. After years of displacing the Indians and fighting with them, the government allotted reservations for the Indians to call their own. Now that tribes have been finally given a chance at economic development, many reservations have taken advantage of casinos to provide a better life for tribal members. Moral issues have been brought up, from government to non Native Americans. Even tribal members argue the moral issues. People who are fighting this are fighting it for a variety of reasons. It s just how it would change the whole community, the flavor. Having a 24 7 bright lights, honky tonk feel, it s just not what people want. Says Susie Dewberry, a Suislaw tribal member. The retail industry of Thailand accounts up to 1.4 trillion baht, which is close to 27 billion pounds. 40% of 1.4 trillion baht is from the modern trade which incorporates the major hypermarkets and their online shopping websites (Appendix C). It is expected that over time, the market of the retail industry is to grow by 3% to 5% each year, thereby a consistent competition is expected for Tesco Lotus and Big C super centres. In terms of online market, the global online grocery sales accounted for only 4% of all food retailers (Mintel, 2014; Appendix D). The internet has indeed penetrated greatly into Thai consumers. Currently over 31% of the consumers use the internet, with majority of them being within the age group of 15 to 29 years old (Appendix E). It is easily anticipate that consumers are continue to increase with internet usage rates thereby opening up a market for selling grocery items for online users. By 2012, Nielsen (2011) states that the e commerce business in Thailand would reach close to 9 billion Baht which is approximately 173 million pounds. • 11. Musical Theatre An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone, and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character, because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings, emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With that many Americans owning guns, its not a surprise nearly 68% of all homicides reported to the FBI involved firearms. Birth Control was first released in the form of a pill in 1960. Since then birth control has evolved into several different forms, including pills, patches, implants, injections, and sponges. As stated by the Guttmacher Institute, more than 43 million women of reproductive age are sexually active and want to prevent pregnancy, as of October 2015. Among these women who do not want to become pregnant, 62 percent are using contraception. (qtd. in Birth control1). Birth Control was created by Margaret Sanger, who worked as a nurse in her early years ( Birth control 2). In her career as a nurse, she came across women who had tried to perform abortions on themselves and died from it. That is when she began working towards something that would change the lives of women and give them more options than the ones that were presented at the time. Sanger had formed a partnership with Katherine McCormick, a wealthy widow, who used part of her substantial fortune to fund the extensive research needed before a reliable pill could be approved. ( Birth Control 2). The Birth Control pill was not easily accessible and was distributed unevenly until 1965. Furthermore the Connecticut v. They believe we should all be equal and have the same opportunities in life. The government should help us so we can all be financially stable. Things like health care and food stamps are important because the government should help all of us, if we cannot do that for ourselves. Although liberals want help from the government they don t believe they should control what we do in our personal lives. They are very big advocators for women s rights for this reason. Focusing on actual government, a big belief is that federal government should have more say over citizens instead of letting state government have control over what we do. This can be seen in the relationship between Lisander who is the male figure and Cloris who is the female one. In this poem, Cloris can be seen as the object of desire while Lisander can be seen as the sexual object which challenges the pre established roles in society. The first stanza reveals a side of Lisander that shows that he does not have a complete control on his body. Indeed, the fact that the author says One day the Amorous Lisander/By an impatient Passion sway d (1 2). The use of the word sway d shows that the passion drives him and controls him while it should be the opposite. This situation questions the male identity because Lisander, as a cavalier and a man, should be strong and show no weaknesses. Furthermore, the end of this stanza reveals that Lisander does need Cloris to live in this world which shows that she, unconsciously, has power over Lisander because he needs her. Behn writes that [Lisander] was now descending to the Sea/And left no Light to guide the World/But what from Cloris brighter Eyes was hurl d (8 10). Some, taking an obvious hint, have proposed that Godot represents God and that the play is centered on religious symbolism. Others have taken the name as deriving from the French word for a boot, godillot. Role Of Women In Sundiata When it comes to the places and roles of women in Sundiata and in Malian society as depicted in the book Sundiata, women are held in a place very much unattached and unequal to men. Their roles, throughout the book, are defined only in relationship to men who hold higher positions of authority and often control the women with whom they are in relations with. Basically, the book takes place in a sort of patriarchal society while allowing women very few rights and powers. Like I had said before, they essentially view the women as their relations and not very much anything else. In this society women are also excluded from official positions of power. To begin with, the epic in fact is related by a man, and there is not one indication of any woman griots anywhere within the novel. Right after a recitation of the kings of Mali leading up to Maghan Kon Fatta (Sundiata s father), a female character is mentioned for the first time: Oh that woman!
