This unit plan focused on teaching fourth grade students about the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The plan involved teaching students about the buildings attacked, response departments, and incorporating technology like videos and social media. Students were able to interview family members who experienced 9/11 firsthand. The goal of increasing student knowledge about the significant historical event was achieved.

1. Abstract:
I chose to do my Unit Plan on September 11, 2001. This is a historical event that will forever live down in
history. My class consisted of 20 students that were in an enrichment-based classroom. Since I am
teaching a fourth grade classroom, these students were not alive when this event happened. I felt as if
this was a Unit that needed to be taught to every student because it is something that will live with us
every day. For my Unit, I was able to teach about the different buildings attacked and some of the
departments that responded to this tragedy. I was able in incorporate a lot of different technological
devices in my Unit Plan. Students were able to watch videos, comment on blogs, Facebook posts, and
look at different posters. This Unit Plan was very successful and even allowed the students to have
interaction with their families since they were alive when this event happened. Students were able to
come up with a few interview questions to ask their family and then present them to see how well the
questions and answered compared through the classroom. September 11, 2001 effected many lives no
matter if it was a family member involved, friend, or even just the day in general. My Unit Plan was able
to increase the knowledge of my students on September 11, 2001.
