The play captures the problem of bullying faced by a boy named Waldo who recently moved to Mexico from the United States. Waldo faces discrimination from his classmates and English teacher, who believes he thinks he is superior because English is his first language. Waldo begins to act out and withdraw from his mother as a result of the bullying. His mother brings him to a television program seeking help to address the problems Waldo is facing in school. The play highlights the outdated teaching style of Waldo's teacher, who relies on behaviorism and punishment rather than interaction or different learning styles. An expert recommends the teacher change her approach to be more constructive and consider students' multiple intelligences. After three months implementing new methods, the teacher is

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Silence screams-jaquie
1. “Silence Screams”
In this play we capture a severe problem that is present in schools nowadays, popularly
known as bullying; is a pattern of aggressive behavior meant to hurt or cause discomfort
to another person. http://www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/k12/bullying/whatis.html, posted Nov 7,
2013 by Department of education, “bullying: awareness & prevention”. The problem in
the play affects mainly a boy named Waldo and his mother descendants from the United
States that moved to Mexico, where they go through a very difficult situation by the fact
that the son is victim of bullying at school. The mother realizes emotional in her son
changes but she totally ignores the real deal with him, she tries to help but does not know
how to talk or even get closer to Waldo, since he is passing through a very difficult stage in
life named “Adolescence”. This play is kind of like a talk show called “Lety sin Censura”, at
this program the desperate mother asks for help so they can try to solve the problems
that the young man is having, due to the discriminatory and especially racial treatment
that he is receiving from his classmates and the teacher.
The difficult situation that the boy and the mother encounters when they moved to
Mexico it’s crucial, the mother does everything to give her son a better life, but suddenly
she realizes that her son is not having the best of the times at school. They boy begins to
be discriminated at his English class, all the classmates an even the teacher think that
Waldo feels superior than the others just because his mother tongue is English and he
already knows almost all about the class. Waldo was very used to the lifestyle and
customs of The United States, he begins to have severe identity issues; he feels out place,
and is yearning to be back home with friends "geeks " (Urban Tribe), which he felt
identified with.
The young student suffers from various attacks in the classroom by his peers but mainly
from a young and the English teacher, this is why the video is displayed in the play as
evidence of physical and mental abuse that the young man is suffering. In this case we
realize that the teacher is based on behaviorism, a very outdated way to educate which
was one of the first educational theories used in history. At the English class the teacher
just gives orders and students abide the instructions exactly as they are, and students
seem to be afraid in doing something wrong because the teacher is very specific about any
instruction in class, students work through “Stimulus-Response” (B.F. Skinner, Behaviorist
theory, 1950s). In this case we notice that there is no good communication or interaction
between student and teacher or between the same classmates.
The young student victim of bullying in his English class begins acting strangely and
aggressively, actually he is losing communication with his mother, the only thing he wants
to do is talk by himself or in this case his conscience which is represented with the puppet.
2. All these negative reactions that the mother receives from her son lead her to be very
overwhelmed and find a solution to the problem as soon as possible.
Continuing with the play we realized the problem lies mainly in the classroom and is
attributed to the English teacher and has been using the same methodology for years,
which is monotonous and traditionalist, since the teacher doesn’t try with new education
styles, she makes students canalized all their energy in a negative way and that is why
they criticize the American teenager by the fact that he has a lot of knowledge about the
subject because it is his mother tongue. While for the other classmates it is more difficult
to acquire a second language since they already passed the crucial age when they can
absorb and learn a second language successfully, “If language acquisition does not occur
by puberty, some aspects of language can be learnt but not full mastery achieved.” (Eric
Lenneberg, Biological foundations of Language, 1967)
Following up the play “Silence screams” it is being given an important comment from an
expert psychologist about Waldo’s case, which suggests in a very direct way that the
English teacher should change her way of educating, in fact students do not progress, they
do not have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and concerns about the class.
Assuming that the teacher decides to change their way of educating (which would be
more appropriate) to a cognitive or even better to a constructivist approach, “knowledge
is as something that is constructed through a process of learning” (Lev Vygotsky,
Constructivist theory), the behavior of her students would be reflected in a positive way
and according to these two types of learning the student is entitled to participate and
practice more which would help create a more relaxed atmosphere in the classroom.
Another option for the traditionalist teacher to evolve in the way of teaching could be
focusing about the types of multiple intelligences ,” Intelligence is an ability to solve
problems or create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings “(H.
Gardner, Frames of mind: Multiple Intelligences, 1983) these intelligences are: logicalmathematical , naturalist , musical, visual - space , linguistic , intrapersonal , interpersonal
and bodily – kinesthetic; the teacher should evaluate and know what kind of intelligence
corresponds to each of her students in order to realize the aspects that she should take
into account with each student. Considering these aspects the teacher can provide a
quality education in which students can take full advantage of all learning applied in the
classroom. As the same as in the play we could see that after three months the teacher
had achieved a fully change in her methods.
Concluding the controversial situation, in the play we presented a final video where after
all the teacher lefts behind her paradigms and starts teaching in more dynamic way, by
doing so the students develop their intellect in a proper way and most important their
energy flows positively. The teacher is now developing a new method of teaching where
she can develop the competences properly, thanks to that the teacher is able to make the
3. students acquire a second language successfully. Applying the play in real life we must be
aware as students and future teachers that this type of problems are always present at
school although we are in an era full of technology and progress with great diversity of
educational methods to provide our students, we should take that into account in order to
be more competent in the teaching field. The realization of this project helped me to
strengthen the knowledge learned throughout the semester, education is not so easy but
neither impossible.
