3. There are no rules!
• Abstract photography is unlike most other
types of photography - rules, such as
composition and accurate focusing hold
no values.
• The abstract photographer uses his (or
her) creative imagination to create
stunning works of art.
4.
5. • Abstract photography is a process of using
colors and patterns combined to create
an image, with no true meaning or no
clear subject involved.
6. Things to think about:
• Subject
• Lighting and shadows
• Perspective or point-of-view
• Focus
• Shapes and patterns
• Colours
• Cropping
• If you can’t get close enough with the
camera… you can crop in Lightroom later
7. • We all know the importance of light when
taking a photograph, but how can we use
it creativity ?
8. • When your focus is light and shadows try
and shoot in black and white to add a
more creatively dimension.
9. • Change your perspective and the world
looks very different!
10. • Abstract photography is not necessarily
going to mean the same thing to everyone.
• Abstract photography leaves more to the
imagination and helps us concentrate on
texture, pattern and colour rather than
the whole subject.
11.
12.
13. • Using a slow shutter speed while
shooting will change a regular image into
abstract .
14. • The trick to keeping abstract photography
attractive when using your cameras'
shutter is to crop tightly. Fill the view
finder with the blur image.
15.
16. • Some kinds of macro photography can
be considered as abstract. Close-ups of
flowers and other plant life will make great
abstract subjects.
19. • Every where we go we are surrounded
with color, textures and patterns.
• Patterns make for great abstract images.
New patterns are formed by nature every
day and this is the best place to start to
create marketable abstract photographs.
20.
21. • There are no guidelines for creating good
abstract images, just use your imagination
along with the natural world to create your
master piece.
22. Objective
• Look at objects in detail by eliminating
backgrounds and focusing on the essence of
a subject
• Study and analyze composition, lighting,
focus, shapes and patterns to create exciting
and unusual images
• Break down your subjects capturing only the
details and end with images that no longer
represent the original form
23. Research Task
Compile a list of objects and subjects you could
photograph abstractly or in detail. You should list a
MINIMUM of 50 subjects in your sketchbook.
10 minimum for each of the following themes:
1. Nature
2. Urban & Industry
3. Food
4. Shadows (what casts the shadow, and surface it is cast on)
5. Your Choice
24. Images & Editing
• Shoot a series of new pictures (40 minimum)
that focus on shapes, lines, colors and
composition. Your images should be detailed
shots that end in an image that no longer
looks like it’s original form.
• Compile and edit 5 images and upload them
to your blog. See next slide for criteria.
25. Images & Editing
The 5 images you submit should be:
• One object from nature
• One industrial object
• One food item
• One shadows cast on a surface
• One your choice
Share on your how you captured the abstract and
detailed images and why you chose these
sugbjects.
