Absenteeism refers to regularly being absent from work or other obligations without good reason. There are two types of absenteeism: voluntary and involuntary. Involuntary absenteeism involves being absent due to unavoidable reasons like illness or family emergencies. Voluntary absenteeism is deliberate absence without a valid excuse. Employers measure absenteeism by tracking the number of days lost to absence over time. Controlling voluntary absenteeism involves disciplinary approaches, positive reinforcement, or combination approaches, as well as no fault policies and paid time off programs.

How to Craft a PTO Policy That Works for EveryoneNamely
Paid time off (PTO) has quickly become one of the most popular employee benefits. A study conducted by TSheets found that 87% of US employees believe employers should provide PTO. Having the ability to offer flexibility in the workplace can be a great way to attract and retain top talent. However, the most common pitfalls occur when there’s an imbalance. Depending on how a PTO policy is put in place, these policies run the risk of benefiting employers more than the employees.
The pressure to be the first one in and last to leave, combined with the complexities of time-off accruals, limited-time policies, and unused vacation days have created a gray area for this crucial benefit. But with thoughtful paid time off initiatives, all parties are able to reap the rewards.
With the appropriate structure in place, PTO policies increase trust and engagement throughout an organization. The challenge: how do you maximize your PTO policy to benefit both the employee and employer? This presentation will:
- Highlight best practices to ensure a successful PTO policy that sets your company apart.
- Discuss ways your organization can revamp an existing policy.
- Share how to measure the success of your PTO policy.

A Memorandum of Association (MOA) is a legal document that outlines the fundamental principles and objectives upon which a company operates. It serves as the company's charter or constitution and defines the scope of its activities. Here's a detailed note on the MOA:
Contents of Memorandum of Association:
Name Clause: This clause states the name of the company, which should end with words like "Limited" or "Ltd." for a public limited company and "Private Limited" or "Pvt. Ltd." for a private limited company.

Registered Office Clause: It specifies the location where the company's registered office is situated. This office is where all official communications and notices are sent.
Objective Clause: This clause delineates the main objectives for which the company is formed. It's important to define these objectives clearly, as the company cannot undertake activities beyond those mentioned in this clause.

Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.

Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.

Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder

3. Absenteeism:
Absenteeism is a habitual pattern of absence
from a duty or obligation.
The practice of regularly staying away from
work or school without good reason.
5. Involuntary
Employees can be absent from work for several reasons such as illness, death
in the family ,and the personal reasons for absences are unavoidable and
understandable, many employers have sick-leave policies that allow
employees a certain number of paid absent days per year for these
types of involuntary absenteeism .
7. Measuring Absenteeism
Controlling or reducing absenteeism must begin with continuous
monitoring of the abseentisum satistics in work units
Number of person –days lost through job absence during period
____________________________________________________ x100
(Average number of employees)x(Number of work days)
8. Controlling Absenteeism
Controlling voluntary absenteeism is easier if managers understand its
causes more clearly.
A variety of approaches can be used to reduce voluntary absenteeism.
•Disciplinary approach
•Positive reinforcement
•Combination approach
•No fault absenteeism
•Paid time-off(PTO) programs
9. Disciplinary approach:
Many employees use a disciplinary approach .People who are absent the first time
receive an oral warning, but subsequent absences bring written warnings ,
suspensions and finally dismissal.
11. Combination approach:
Combination approaches ideally reward desired behaviors and punish
undesired behaviors. This approach uses policies and discipline to punish
offenders and develops various programs and rewards for employees with
outstanding attendance.
12. “No fault” absenteeism:
Here, the reasons of absences do not matter but the employees must
manage their time rather than having managers make decisions about
excused and unexcused absences. Once absenteeism exceeds normal
limit, then disciplinary action up to and including termination of
employment can occur.
13. Paid time-off(PTO) Programs:
Some employers have a paid time-off (PTO) program in which
vacation time, holidays, and sick leave for each employee are
combined into a PTO account .Employee use days from their
accounts at their discretion for illness, personal time, or vacation.
If employees run out of days in their accounts, then they are not
paid to for any additional days missed.
