Abruzzo is a region in central Italy that borders Marche, Lazio, Molise, and the Adriatic Sea. It is divided into 4 provinces: L'Aquila, Pescara, Teramo, and Chieti. L'Aquila is the capital city of Abruzzo and was heavily damaged in a 2009 earthquake. Pescara is the most populated city and capital of Pescara province, located on the Adriatic coast. Chieti is the capital of Chieti province and hosts a large university. Teramo is the capital of Teramo province, situated between mountains and the coast. Abruzzo contains 3 national parks that protect diverse wildlife and plant species across
