Benefits Of Urban Community Gardening
Benefits of Urban Community Gardening
Melinda L. Smith
Charter Oak State College
Research question
What are the significant benefits offered through urban community gardening, which would cause one
to participate in the practice?
Thesis statement
There are many advantages to participation in community gardening because gardening reduces air
pollution and heat islands, helps in crime prevention, and most significant of all can affect one s
health.
Literature Review
Kathleen Wolf and Alicia Robbins presented different benefits in the article Metro Nature,
Environmental Health and Economic Value in an effort to present the economic values associated with
exposure to nature outline many of the positive advantages associated with ones exposure to different
elements of nature, such as urban greenspaces. Important health benefits relate to reduced air pollution
and increases to an active lifestyle. The additional physical activity helps to reduce obesity, lower
blood pressure, and produce extended life spans.
In the survey Allotment Gardening and Health: A Comparative Survey other positive benefits
associated with gardening are identified. While the article is written to compare the different effects of
allotment gardening compared to those people without allotments, generally the overall advantages
associated with gardening are recognized regardless of whether a gardener is working with a small
group of family members or a larger group of community gardeners.

Adult Supervision
The concern of whether elementary school age children should require adult supervision, or should be
trusted alone has been discussed. For parents, the task of providing care and attention for their
children while juggling their other responsibilities as parents, has become complex and debate
whether it is appropriate to leave children on their own. Many tend to believe, that young children
should be supervised at all times, while others opine that children need their space. The reality is,
elementary school age children require a balance of adult supervision as needed depending on
scenarios, but as well as their time of independence when time permits based on the scenario and a
bond of trust. Adult supervision is possible, if not already, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supervision of children should be a norm that parents and their adolescents should be accustomed to.
Not only does supervision offer a protective barrier to assure that children are safe, but as well aid in
establishing a bond of trust between adults and kids. Aside from establishing a bond, the supervision
of children has statistically proven that cases of kidnapping and sexual assault committed against
children have gone down due to the increase of administration over children. In scenarios such these,
where a child is left at a park on their own with no adult, such as Deborah Harrell s case of leaving her
nine year old daughter alone at a park as she went to work, adult supervision is required. If any harm
was to occur to Harrell s daughter, such as an injury, kidnap attempt, or even sexual assault, the lack of
adult attention would have been the cause as to why a tragedy could have occurred. Despite the fact
that ..data indicates that child abuse reports tend to go down over the summer.. (Belinda Luscombe), it
does not suggest that child abuse cases do not occur. Cooperation

Bruce Springsteen Research Paper
The best music...is essentially there to provide you with something to face the world with.
Bruce Springsteen aka The Boss
Born Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen on September 23, 1949 to Adele and Douglas Springsteen in
Freehold, New Jersey. Raised in a working class household, his father, Doug had trouble holding
down a steady job and his mother worked as a secretary. Bruce saw a guitar hanging in a store
window. His mother, took out a 60 dollar loan to buy it. Bruce and his father had a very difficult
relationship, which would later help his writing. Bruce moved down to Asbury Park, New Jersey and
lived with future band mate Steve Van Zandt. Playing in several different bands while he forged his

His performance at the Bottom Line in NYC was packed, all doubters were converted and the critics
were pleased. Bruce became the first entertainer to make the cover of both Newsweek and Time in the
same week. The album hit number three and he was seeing no money. Becoming suspicious Bruce
decided to hire an accountant and an attorney, finding out he had no rights to his own songs, his
manager Appel did. Appel s company was making more money off his albums than he was. The battle
between the two began, Bruce sued Appel, he wanted out of the deal they signed on the hood of the
car. In return Appel countersued and stopped Bruce from recording with Landau, turning it into a long
and bitter battle but Bruce did not back down. Bruce said he would walk away from music completely
before he would give in. At 3 a.m. on 28 May 1977 they came to a settlement, Bruce gave up money
and Appel gave up control. Jon Landau became his new manager, then they made an album that
summed up all the hard lessons he learned, Darkness on the Edge of Town . Bruce was no longer the
romantic young boy now he was a man who fought for what he believed in and won, this changed the
way he wrote and he became stronger. Next came the albums,

Similarities Between Catherine The Great And Napoleon...
Rulers; What makes a successful one? Some could argue the accumulation of land and wealth are the
defining factors. Others would assert that population size and control over it maketh a great ruler. All
these factors are quite obviously good indicators of an empire on the rise, but not necessarily
indicators of good ruling. It appears to me that great rulers build their empire like a sports franchise
builds their team; around a centralized figure. The centralized figure in regards to empire is the ruler
of said empire. They demand the respect and loyalty of their constituents, and any resistance to such
demands is met with the harshest of reprimands. Successful rulers make themselves a mandatory
fixture into the society they have built. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Napoleon actions in power appear to completely contradict his supposed beliefs during the French
Revolution, as he reverted back to former times in regards to his power, his administration, and even
his self appointed title of emperor. One could suggest that Napoleon utilized the ideals of the
revolution to put himself into power with no actual regard for the beliefs of the people who placed him
there. With that said, his prominence as a ruler can be explained through his military might, oppressive
and unequal policies amongst his constituents, and his successful method of delegating authority over
territories to his family and other loyal subjects. Catherine the Great, in a similar fashion to Napoleon,
used her power to deny or limit the rights and knowledge of her subjects, as she did when attempting
to keep the dialogue of the French Revolution out of her empire. Her consolidation of the social
classes served to keep people in their place while simultaneously giving her more structure and
stability over her empire. These rulers showcase a style of rule that is oppressive, unequal, and yet

Post-Tbi Case Studies
It is evident that there are some solid data for the cause of AI due to TBI along with refuting data as
well. The largest discrepancy among investigating AI in TBI patients, was the varying definitions of
what constituted as AI. As stated in the results section, these measurements and tests included, but not
limited to, baseline cortisol readings, and varying ACTH stimulation tests. It seems that those
investigators who chose to use a baseline cortisol measurement as opposed to stimulation tests,
gathered more data in support of AI post TBI. Heather et al showed a stimulation test referred to as the
metyrapone test. This test not only measures the potential increase in a cortisol level of the patient, but
also causes the shunting of endocrine products to make more cortisol due to inhibiting the further
progression of precursors to other hormones such as sex hormones. This type of stimulation test was
not found in other articles that were reviewed for this paper. It would be helpful to see how often and
how beneficial a test such as the metyrapone test is over a possible standard ACTH stimulation test
(high or low dose). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems that the low dose ACTH test was more sensitive in diagnosing AI post TBI, possibly even
with an over diagnosing of this insufficiency. (Mirzaie, et al., 2013) The high dose ACTH test also had
differing results depending on when the samples were taken from the patients; 30 min or 60 min post
administration. A 60min sample seemed to have given the strongest correlation between TBI and a
resulting AI in the patient. (Bernard, Outtrim, Menon, Matta,

Climate Change And Climate Adaptation
One of the most challenging global issue facing today s society is climate change, it is affecting all
regions across the globe, with some areas experiencing extreme weather events and heavy rainfall,
whereas other regions are hit with droughts and heat waves. Climate change can be defined as a large
scale, long term shift in the planet s weather patterns or average temperatures. (metoffice).
Consequently, a range of challenges are occurring to not only human settlements, but more
importantly to the natural environment as well. It is becoming increasingly important for countries
across the globe to attempt to adapt and mitigate from the effects of climate change. Climate
mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of
climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing
the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is
referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and
extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the
consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road
infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour
shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through
strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of
implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change.
Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also
become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s
population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can
be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher
temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the
urban heat island effect. This is an area, such as a city or industrial site, that has consistently

Life And Struggle Of Lesbians At Work, School And On...
For my ethnographic research paper I chose to study the life and struggle of Lesbians at work, school
and on television. For this paper I will refer to the people that I interviewed by different names so that
no one can be offended or embarrassed. The main focus of this ethnographic essay is to compare the
lives on the television show the L word to the lesbians in real life and to focus on the feelings lesbians
have as mothers. In Gender, Genetics and Generation: Reformulating Biology in Lesbian Kinship by
Connie P. Hayden which focuses on the role of biology in relationships, sexuality and gender roles.
Hayden discusses the role of blood relations and biology in relation to the kinship theory throughout
the United States. The article also focuses on lesbian couples and their issues to be recognized as a
nuclear family. Questions that I will be asking are how do lesbian mothers prepare for parenthood?
How do they share the responsibility between the two? How do gender identities impact the role as a
mother? And how do lesbian mothers who did not birth the child have satisfaction. Although lesbian
motherhood is the focus of the ethnography; Lesbians that are not yet mothers and single lesbians also
play a very important role. The L word is a TV show that follows the lives of a somewhat small, close
group of lesbians living in Los Angeles California. It also follows the lives of people who either
support them or people who hate them. The L Word is a popular TV show in

The International Company s Workers Human Rights Essay
Globalization is defined as the act of globalizing, or extending to other or all parts of the word. In
other words, globalization is that the world has experienced two great waves of gobalization driven by
the free trade policies of major trading countries and falling transportation costs.
The first wave was from roughly the down of the Industrial Revolution in the 19 century to the World
War I, and second has run since 1947. International trade and international migration grew
substantially during the first wave, but world trade increased even more rapidly during the first 25
years of the World War II wave. Both periods of gobalization faced significant suspicion about the
results of globalization for labor conditions.
Therefore, the prupose of this paper is to compare the international company s workers human rights
through the influence of the international trade by using experts research paper and the data from
internet. At the same time that many national governments tried to prevent global work forces from
eroding local labor conditions, fleding efforts at international governmance responded to concern that
countries with superior labor conditions would be at a competitive disadvantage in international
markets.

Our Group Organized A Science Event
THE EVENT: Our group organized a science event titled Nap15 , a word play on the mathematical
notation of power . Our objective was to dispel and debunk the myth that any duration of a powernap
is beneficial for increasing productivity and alertness. Instead, we sought to establish a key message of
a fifteen minute optimal powernap time, which yielded recuperative effects without any detrimental
side effects (Hayashi, Motoyoshi, Hori, 2005).Our target audience was current university students at
the University of Western Australia (UWA) who are about to sit for the end of semester examinations.
I, together with a few other classmates, was involved in planning and brainstorming ideas during the
pre event stage. We were in charge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also wanted to exude an informal, cosy ambiance at our booth. Hence we came up with the idea of
bringing cushions, pillows and inflatable mattresses for visitors to play with and sit on, complete with
background music. Having interactive activities has been shown to increase satisfaction in participants
(Bultitude Sardo, 2012). Atmosphere plays an important role in marketing, and a cosy ambience helps
to make people feel at ease and more receptive (Kotler, 1973).
On the actual day of the event, I was part of the Advertising and Recruiting Team, where were dressed
up in pyjamas and approached passers by to answer a short question and visit our booth to try our
crossword puzzle challenge and find out more about power napping. I managed to bring in about 20
people to our booth.
EFFECTIVE SCIENCE COMMUNICATION:
Effective science communication is essential because it allows scientists to communicate important
knowledge and beneficial findings in a clear, easily understood way to the masses (Burns, O Connor,
Stocklmayer, 2003). When scientists are able to translate technical jargon into plain language for non
experts, they are able to dispel myths incorrect beliefs more effectively and convincingly. This would
increase erudition and quality of life in society as a whole, as people are able to make sound, informed
decisions. (Aguinis, Pierce, Bosco, Dalton, Dalton, 2011)

Dry Peas Lab Report
The two hypotheses tested during the experiment were the warmer the temperature, the more oxygen
will be consumed, and the germinated peas will consume more oxygen than the dry peas. Some
conditions that had to remain constant in this experiment were that each vial had to have the same
volume to let us know that the volume of the vial wouldn t affect the respiration rate. Had the volumes
been different, the respiration rate might have been affected. Another constant was the 7 minute
equilibrium period before completely submerging the vials in the water. This allowed the peas and the

How Did Malthus Build Food Production In The Ottoman Empire
Growth and Food Production in the Ottoman Empire
In his 1798 Essay on the Principle of Population, Thomas Malthus defended the proposition that, had
population and food increased in the same ratio, it is probable that man might never have emerged
from the savage state. Labeled a Malthusian trap after the demographer s work, the theoretical
principle holds that, because population increases exponentially, while agricultural output increases
arithmetically, periodic premature deaths among the population will be caused by a lack of sustenance.
Had a population never overcome the reoccurring demographic trap of an equal increase in food and
population, Malthus contends, the life of man as a subsistence farmer would continue to be, as

In the Ottoman Empire, immigration from Russia and the upper Balkan Peninsula brought a ten fold
increase in iron plow use in Ottoman Bulgaria, and the introduction of the calorie rich potato to
Anatolia, which had a beneficial effect of agriculture of Anatolia as a whole. Whether or not the
limited introduction of improved techniques and plant species into the Empire was also driving force
behind increased production, it still appeared to be caused by the influx of people to the region.
Malthus s doomsday prediction of stagnation upon population growth appears to fail when considering
the possibility of introduction of new techniques to maximize gains. So far, in the case of the Ottoman
Empire, the relationship between changes in population density and agricultural production has proven
to be that an increase in the former resulted in a subsequent and equal rise in the latter. In order to

Top Reasons Why Branding Is Important
Question One A: Using your own words, summarize the seven reasons why branding is important.
1. Strong Brands Protect the Consumer
Brands have always served as sort of an emblem to consumers, that there would be a certain quality
associated with that symbol. There are still many many popular brands today that are able to be
distinguished but, brands are standing out among the rest by gaining a strong positive reputation
which far exceeds the quality of there product. Brands ensure that they will provide consumers with a
standard quality, and if they fail to do so their reputation is tarnished. Brands fight for our money ever
day and try to stand out by focusing more on innovation to one up the competition. Brands also largely
battle with price, which is a large part in the consumer decision. The brand and quality must be worth
it otherwise customers will be lost to the competition. Brands protect their consumers simply because
they provide an innovative product that differs from the competitions product. At the same time, they
are ensuring that the quality is worth an appropriate price. This creates a strong and loyal customer
base that will surely build the brand a positive reputation.
2. Strong Brands Drive Share Performance
Powerful market performance has been proven to advance multiple components including the
shareholders, the company itself, and pensions. Organizations that have strongly branded portfolios
have been seen to consistently surpass those organizations

angry at Celie and tells her that he will not be giving her any money to which she responds by saying
that she never asked for his money, and she never asked for his hand in marriage (201). This is a
pivotal part in the story because Celie is finally able to tell Mister that he is unwanted in her life and
that she does not need him. Once Shug and Celie move to Memphis, Celie begins to make and design

Celie reinforces her independence from Mister by stating that they were never man and wife (253). In
addition to condemning her and Mister s marriage and starting a business, Celie owns a house. Celie is
excited because her house is big enough to accommodate for her children, Nettie, Nettie s husband
and children, and Shug. Being ready for a new house shows that Celie is ready to move on from living
with Mister and that she is also financially stable to maintain the house. One of the biggest character
developments in the story for Celie occurs when she takes into account the shortcomings that she has
been faced with, but she is able to deal with them by herself and is capable of being optimistic. She
thinks about her sister, who is reportedly dead, about her children who are growing up without her,
and Shug not coming back after six months like she promised (267). Since Celie does not have anyone

Investigating The Investigation Of Arson
According to Dehaan and Icove (2011), the investigation of arson can be particularly challenging due
to complicated factors associated with the crime scene such as; destruction of physical evidence and
lack of eyewitnesses. Despite copious amounts of research examining the characteristics of arsonists
leading to the development of treatment programmes; little research contributes to the understanding
of patterns of behaviours in relation to arsonists characteristics. In order to deduce offender
characteristics from crime scene actions, motivational typologies are usually employed as a result of
this relationship. However, it must be highlighted that motives are often an unreliable information
source due to offenders ambiguously reporting their supposed motives.
Seemingly, Lewis and Yarnell (1951) are accredited with being the first researchers to provide some
type of classification system for a group of fire starters, however only in relation to offenders with
diminished mental capacity. Lewis and Yarnell (1951) classified four categories of offenders that
started fires, with the exclusion of those who set fires for profit; unintentionally, as a result of
delusions, for erotic pleasures and to obtain revenge. A further category for child fire setters was later
hypothesized, stating that they start fires out of excitement.
Inciardi (1970) developed six motives for arson; revenge, insurance claim, excitement (pyromania),
instintusionalised (arson in a mental health

Returning Ex Convicts exiled into our Society Imagine having a next door neighbor is an ex convict;

Power And Influence On Employees
In its simplest definition, power is regarded as the ability to influence to behavior of other people
using different tactics to push or prompt action. It is as well referred as the possession of authority and
influence over others. Depending on how it is used, power can lead to either positive or negative
outcomes. There are different sources of power that one can gain power in different places such as
country, organization or any other place that leadership is required. Additionally, there are different
types of power that are used in different scenarios. This research looks into different sources of power
through analysis of the different sources of power, identifying helpful information from the sources,
and finally explaining how to apply the information learnt from the sources to influence employees in
the workplace (Green, 1999).
The element of power has been in use for whether in leadership or not. For different types of
leadership to be effective, power and influence are two key elements in leadership. However, the two
are often confused. In an organization, setting power is defined in different ways such as the ability to
control other workers behaviors. Power is irrelevant without people to perceive it, as it is referred as
the relationship between people. In abroad approach, power can be divided into two different
categories; Position Power and Personal Power. Despite being different from power, authority and
power are inter connected. Power can be either

Cyber Criminals, Thieves, And Terrorism
Every day, hospitals in the United States and around the world are working long hours in responding
to emergencies, attending patients, delivering newborn babies, performing surgeries, and foremost
saving lives. Not too long ago, cyberspace has given institutions such as hospitals the tools to
accumulate and file as much information and data as possible in this great space of technology,
networks, and systems. Information such as patient s information, treatments, machinery, as well as
having a better way to have a secure place to store them and have authorization in accessing them.
However, such tools had been used as weapons by those who want to have access and possession of
such critical information and control by cyber criminals, thieves, and terrorists. Unfortunately, it s not
simple to live in a world in which laws can just simply protect institutions that help save lives. Rather,
hospitals have fallen as victims of cyberattacks.
On the evening of February 5th, at Los Angeles, California, doctors and staff from Hollywood
Presbyterian Medical Center, noticed several technical issues while trying to access the hospital s
computer network. The hospital s IT department was notified, and they began their investigation to
determine the cause of these issues. However, these issues carried on for approximately a week, which
was a frustration for doctors and staff members because they were unable to digitally access patient s

Renaissance Dance Pros And Cons
Dance in the Renaissance Era is an era that is very intriguing but also very amazing because we can
see where dance really started and how it has evolved over time since the Renaissance Era. Although
the Renaissance is a very interesting era to examine it is also made clear what a hard era this was for
dance but also a great era for dance. I feel that within the Renaissance dance era there are a lot of pros
and cons as dance wasn t necessarily appreciated in this time and was seen as something that was
more dark and associated with death. As time went on this did change and dance truly became
something within this era for several different reasons. For me, I think this era is so great because of
all the different costumes, technique and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Baroque time there were quite a few dancing masters but the dancing master that stood out to
me for the time I am focusing on was John Playford (1623 1686). He published The English Dancing
Master in 1651 which provided information on 105 English country dances. (Sue, Norma. Baroque
Dancing Master and Dances. ) Through this period there were many great dancing masters and
manuals. Although this was very important in this time the technique and movement of this era is
where my real focus lies. Within this era there were 5 selected dance steps that were always used and
then put together into a sequence. The 5 steps are; demi coupe, coupe, pas de bourree, temps de
courante and the minuet step. All of these steps were then put together and you had do them and in a
faster manor which was hard because you aren t familiar with the steps but it is a step you know but it
seems harder when put into a different sequence to different music. The steps in the Baroque time
were very interesting but the movement qualities are something that would be very hard to adjust to as
this is something that has evolved and changed over time as dance has also got more difficult over
time. The movement qualities of include low legs, vertical movements, weight primarily on the ball of
one foot, relaxed toes, 90 degree turnout and fluttering embroideries of arms and legs. (Sue, Norma.
Baroque Dancing Master and Dances. ) From this we can see how the movement qualities are very
different from what we do now as the toes would very be relaxed because we now practice a full
pointe at all times and we also now practice 180 degree turnout and you don t even really see 90
degree turnout anymore as everyone strives to have that perfect turnout. Although these movement
qualities have changed it is quite

Managed Care Organization Today we have been asked by Mr. Woods to provide training to members
of the public relations committee in order to help them understand care key terms so that they can
include them in their campaign for community education. Managed care organizations have seen an
enormous increase in enrollment since their initial rollout in 1988. Today, managed care organizations
have a 95% enrollment since their beginning. What I propose to do is list the key terms with
explanations so that the new members will be able to understand managed care and all of its
terminology. I am going to explain managed care and the different contracts that are attached to a
managed care organization.
Managed Care This is a type of health care where patients sign up in a plan to visit particular doctors
and hospitals whereby the cost of care and treatment is monitored by a managed care organization.
(Free Dictionary, 2012). A health care system with administrative control over primary health care
services in a medical group practice. (Free Dictionary, 2012).
PPOs (Preferred Provider Organization) This type of health care system has a list of preferred
providers that they want you to use and to get your health care from. You have to have pre
authorization for tests and procedures. (Davis/Health Insurance, 2015).

The Flight Simulator-Personal Narrative
Hard right! shouted my brother. Immediately, I threw the flight simulator into a massive right turn,
hoping to line up for a shot at an enemy. Unfortunately for us, it was a little too massive, and we
swung to the side, facing the wrong way. I wrestled the controls, and finally stabilized on target. Nice
shot, I said, as my brother shot down the fighter we were tailing. We flew forward, and I glanced at the
radar. I turned to face the nearest enemy on the radar. However, I had pulled too hard on the turn, and
went spinning out of control. The plane did a barrel roll as I fought my way to stability. The
unfortunate incident aside, I was in a better place than before. I adjusted slightly and got the angle

The Innovator s Dilemm Case Study
Introduction to the Book The Premise The book The Innovator s Dilemma talks about how the well
managed companies often fail to stay at the top when they confront certain types market and
technological changes. The book not only talks about small or any one company, but those companies
which are big and well known for their offerings and timely innovations. There are many factors that
lead companies to stumble. They are bureaucracy, arrogance, tired executives, poor planning, short
term investment horizons, inadequate skills and resources and sometimes just a bad luck. In the book,
the author have not talked about the weak companies, but the ones that are doing well off in the

Sustaining technologies improve the products and services which help in achieving the same result but
in a better way. This helps the customers to understand the value of improvement. Sustaining
technologies are easier to use in already established firms than in new emerging firms. They focus on
improved quality and refine service over the period of time which leads to increase in cost but is
justifiable. Disruptive Technologies Disruptive technologies are the ones that bring different value
preposition to the market. They are usually cheaper and underperform the products in mainstream
markets. Being cheaper, disruptive technologies are also simpler, smaller and more convenient to use
too. They are usually technologically straight forward and capture emerging markets. As disruptive
technologies improve faster, this serves as a danger to established firms because they are so rapid that
by the time you know about them, they have had already grown up and are cheaper and better than
other competitors in the market. Principles of Disruptive Innovations The author have offered five
principles which would help the managers and entrepreneurs to deal with disruptive technologies. 1.
Companies depend on customers and investors for resources. Customers and investors are company s
value network and the companies make their decisions on the basis of their value network. Disruptive
technologies come up with different value, so the existing customers who are generally

Essay on Confucianism and Daoism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucian and Daoist views were important for the shaping and
development of mankind in the past. They were views that existed among the eastern Asian countries.
They had both similarities and differences in the way they shaped out self knowledge and self
cultivation. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories. Nature and
art were said to have helped shape the human race as we know it. Confucianism and Daoism seem to
be complete polar opposites but there are some similarities between the two. One way that they are
similar is that they both focus on the goal of self improvement. Their teachings both agree that people

Do not be upset, do not be startled; all things will order themselves. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing
the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature
to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be
determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with
society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism
gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can
be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the
whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful
action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in
Confucianism in development as it does for Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings
from society and strive for the ideal of a gentleman or perfect man . One thing that is said to be
determined by nature is that Confucius never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that
By nature men are similar; by practice men are wide apart (Lun Yu). Daoism has everything to do with
nature. It plays the most important role in human development and knowledge . It states that humans

Initially, the labor participation rates (which are low in many countries) can also be increased to
temporarily reduce or delay the shortage. On the positive side, such a shortage increases the demand
for labor, which can potentially result in a reduced unemployment rate as well as higher wages. As the
birthrate in developed countries drops well below the replacement rate of 2.1 children born to every
woman, to somewhere between 1.1 and 1.4 children the declining population will have severe
consequences in the near and distant future. Demographic decline causes anxiety because it is thought
to go hand in hand with economic decline. With fewer, younger workers to pay the health and pension
bills of an elderly population, states face an unprecedented fiscal burden. The dependency ratio of

The Kent State Massacre Essay
On May 4, 1970 at approximately 12:24 PM members of the Ohio National Guard shot at and killed
several unarmed Kent State University students. These students were protesting President Nixon s
decision to invade Cambodia. While some of the students who were shot at were actively protesting at
the time of the shooting, others were simply walking by or casually observing the protest from a
distance. How could an appalling incident like this occur? What possessed the members of the Ohio

It is interesting to note there was a stark contrast between day and night activities in the city of Kent.
During the day, guardsmen casually patrolled and went about business as usual. In fact, there were
even reports that throughout the daytime hours students would have long, peaceful conversations with
the guardsmen. However, at night, the violence would break out while mass protests were held,
forcing the students and guardsmen to quickly retreat to opposite sides. Once again, on the evening of
May 3, non lethal force was used and people were arrested as the guardsmen again struggled to take
control of the violence erupting in the city of Kent Ohio. Earlier in the weekend, university officials
banned all protests and assemblies on campus. Students ignored this ruling and began congregating
around eleven AM for the scheduled twelve noon protest. When the protest began, a Kent State police
officer patrolled the campus with several guardsmen in a jeep announcing that the protest was illegal
and everyone must leave the campus immediately. In response to this dispersion call, the students
became violent, throwing rocks and attacking the jeep. The general in charge of the guardsmen in
Kent, General Canterbury, ordered the guardsmen to arm themselves and fire tear gas in an attempt to
disperse the crowd. As the crowd of

Most importantly this sort of injury is linked to CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).
CTE is a brain disease found in individuals with annals of head trauma. It has specifically been found
in athletes with numerous concussions. So far it can only be diagnosed in the deceased, but Dr. Julian
Bales and his staff in UCLA have discovered symptoms in living players such as Hall of Famer
Anthony Tony Dorsett, Hall of Famer Joe DeLamielleure, and NFL All Pro Leonard Marshall. CTE
can cause memory loss, dementia, depression, suicidal thoughts, cognitive and emotional difficulties
(Waldron par 1, 2, 3). Is it a compelling issue? A total of 171 concussions were reported in the NFL in
the 2012 2013 season; 88 thus far in the 2013 2014 season (Frontline pt). Those are just numbers in
the professional level. There are thousands of kids playing football either in youth, middle school,
high school, or college level. The diagnosis is currently in progress, researchers are optimistic this
could lead to a legitimate treatment, how to manage, and hopefully a cure. Furthermore, this can also
possibly lead to an answer to a connection between football and chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Junior Seau, Mike Webster, Terry Long, and Justin Strzelczyk (all of whom are dead now) are all men
who played in the NFL for an extent period of time. This is not the only thing they have in common.

3.3.3.1. Self context perspective:
History has witnessed where women were considered to be mere dependent individuals who does not
have their own self and life as their faith before marriage was considered to be tied to their father and
after marriage with their husband. That is why a widow s life was considered as a burden on earth.
Being a girl, none was motivated for education, no platform was built to set their career. But there are
instances where history has also seen women in some of the powerful positions. As mentioned in the
earlier chapter, while Jatra step down to Assam from Bengal, the women at that point had the only
option to appreciate as a spectator from far off. The role of women was played by men itself and this
continued for a long. By then came the theatre moment in Assam where women s participation could
not be considered so effortlessly. But later with the passage of time finally the presence of women can
be marked both in Jatra and other forms of theatre. Girls would dress in different attires to represent
mythological characters in Jatra. Young girls would love to dress up with heavy make up and with

The Joads travel from their small farm in Oklahoma to California when they are forced out of their

Side effects are a big one, with many patients experiencing them. For example, [a]bout 75% of people
who take lithium for bipolar disorder have some side effects, although they may be minor
(WebMD.com). So that means 3 out of 4 people, which is a large amount. Although the severity
varies, side effects can still be annoying, making it a 7. Along with side effects, psychiatric drugs are
often grouped into classes. It s generally thought that if a few drugs don t work from one class of
drugs then the entire class won t work. SSRIs ease depression by increasing levels of serotonin in the
brain ... SSRIs are called selective because they seem to primarily affect serotonin, not other
neurotransmitters (Mayoclinic.org). So if Zoloft and Celexa don t work, Lexapro probably won t

doctor prescribing the medicine. Many general practitioners don t have much experience in psychiatric
conditions, making misdiagnosis common. As per the survey taken by the National Depressive and
Manic Depressive Association (DMDA), 69 percent of patients with bipolar disorder are misdiagnosed
initially (Singh, Rajput). This makes misdiagnosis a 9. Altogether, this is a 20, making it the same

The Energy Generator Ofgem Announced
Energy, especially electricity, is vital in today s economy however demand for electricity is currently
so high that the available supply may not be sufficient over the next 25 years. Electricity lights our
homes, powers our technology and is a fundamental factor in everybody s day to day lives.
In 2012, the energy generator Ofgem announced that Great Britain risks running out of energy.
(Business, 2012). In the United Kingdom, equipment which is used to generate electricity has suffered
from years of under investment. This has resulted in an inefficient system that distributes energy
across the country. Most of the UK s electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels. In 2010, Energy
UK reported that the UK currently use 47% natural gas and 28% coal to supply the countries power.
(Energy uk.org, 2010).
In 2007, the United Kingdom Government agreed to an overall European Union target of generating
20% of the European Union s energy supply from renewable sources by 2020. The total of all
renewable electricity sources provided for 14.9% of the electricity generated in the United Kingdom in
2013, reaching 53.7 TWh of electricity generated. (Daley, 2015).

Relationship Between Marxism And Mafia
To explain Marxism you have know some questions; this question being, How does a capitalist society
work? Who does it work in favour for and who has to work for it? This went through Karl Marx s
head when he created the Marxist Theory. That these social classes rising out of Feudalism and how
society is going to mold outward. Marx looked at society and saw how capitalism was a struggle
between two social classes one being the bureaucrats the people that control the profits and the means
of consumer goods and the proletariat the people who had to work to make a living or even to survive

and that by eliminating ignorance and darkness from our minds will better the society (Blogger). We

9th Grade Year Research Paper
I never would have thought that ninth grade year would be the toughest year of my life. I went from

and set them up outside. All day long for several years my friends from the neighborhood and I would
jump our bikes on the ramps all day long. Plenty of crashes, scars, and blood filled

capacity of such narratives to provide an inspired reason for schooling,,. At its best, schooling can be
about how to make a life, which is quite different from how to make a living. I choose these quotes
because it refers to the modern education which arise a problem that most students do not have a
motivating reason to be enthusiastic in their education. However the speaker s has negative opinion of
the existing education system moreover it fails to involve and prepare young people for the challenges
of the real world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one is the engineering side, most young people get education through this category. The other
one is the metaphysical which includes the mission and purpose of education. Postman suggest new
narratives that may improve public education. These are the spaceship earth, the fallen angel, the
American experiment, the law of diversity and the word weavers. Those news gods will help the
education, one of the new god s deals with the commonly human mistakes. Humans are not perfect,
but by making mistakes can learn from their errors. These narratives will help education therefore
education will have a higher

For parents, the task of providing care and attention for their children while juggling their other responsibilities as parents, has become complex and debate whether it is appropriate to leave children on their own. Many tend to believe, that young children should be supervised at all times, while others opine that children need their space. Not only does supervision offer a protective barrier to assure that children are safe, but as well aid in establishing a bond of trust between adults and kids. Aside from establishing a bond, the supervision of children has statistically proven that cases of kidnapping and sexual assault committed against children have gone down due to the increase of administration over children. In scenarios such these, where a child is left at a park on their own with no adult, such as Deborah Harrell s case of leaving her nine year old daughter alone at a park as she went to work, adult supervision is required. If any harm was to occur to Harrell s daughter, such as an injury, kidnap attempt, or even sexual assault, the lack of adult attention would have been the cause as to why a tragedy could have occurred. Others would assert that population size and control over it maketh a great ruler. All these factors are quite obviously good indicators of an empire on the rise, but not necessarily indicators of good ruling. It appears to me that great rulers build their empire like a sports franchise builds their team; around a centralized figure. The centralized figure in regards to empire is the ruler of said empire. They demand the respect and loyalty of their constituents, and any resistance to such demands is met with the harshest of reprimands. Napoleon actions in power appear to completely contradict his supposed beliefs during the French Revolution, as he reverted back to former times in regards to his power, his administration, and even his self appointed title of emperor. One could suggest that Napoleon utilized the ideals of the revolution to put himself into power with no actual regard for the beliefs of the people who placed him there. With that said, his prominence as a ruler can be explained through his military might, oppressive and unequal policies amongst his constituents, and his successful method of delegating authority over territories to his family and other loyal subjects. Catherine the Great, in a similar fashion to Napoleon, used her power to deny or limit the rights and knowledge of her subjects, as she did when attempting to keep the dialogue of the French Revolution out of her empire. Her consolidation of the social classes served to keep people in their place while simultaneously giving her more structure and stability over her empire. • 6. Post-Tbi Case Studies It is evident that there are some solid data for the cause of AI due to TBI along with refuting data as well. The largest discrepancy among investigating AI in TBI patients, was the varying definitions of what constituted as AI. As stated in the results section, these measurements and tests included, but not limited to, baseline cortisol readings, and varying ACTH stimulation tests. It seems that those investigators who chose to use a baseline cortisol measurement as opposed to stimulation tests, gathered more data in support of AI post TBI. Heather et al showed a stimulation test referred to as the metyrapone test. This test not only measures the potential increase in a cortisol level of the patient, but also causes the shunting of endocrine products to make more cortisol due to inhibiting the further progression of precursors to other hormones such as sex hormones. • 7. Climate Change And Climate Adaptation One of the most challenging global issue facing today s society is climate change, it is affecting all regions across the globe, with some areas experiencing extreme weather events and heavy rainfall, whereas other regions are hit with droughts and heat waves. Climate change can be defined as a large scale, long term shift in the planet s weather patterns or average temperatures. (metoffice). Consequently, a range of challenges are occurring to not only human settlements, but more importantly to the natural environment as well. It is becoming increasingly important for countries across the globe to attempt to adapt and mitigate from the effects of climate change. Climate mitigation is any action taken to permanently eliminate or reduce the long term risk and hazards of climate change to human life, property. (Global greenhouse warming.com). It can include enhancing the sinks of greenhouse gases, as well as reducing the sources. Whereas climate adaptation, is referring to the ability of a system to adjust to climate change (including climate variability and extremes) to moderate potential damage, to take advantage of opportunities, or to cope with the consequences. (Global greenhouse warming.com). Adaptation can include improving road infrastructure, so it would be able to withstand hotter temperatures, or just simply change in behaviour shifts such as using less water. These two methods are essential and can be connected through strategic town planning, and can be used to tackle climate change, through an array of implementations which will not only prepare the globe, but also reduce the impacts of climate change. Urban areas not only have a profound part in contributing to climate change, but these areas have also become extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, as more than half of the world s population are living in urban areas and global rate of urbanisation is evermore increasing. Cities can be met with an increase in frequency of storms, flooding, landslides and heat waves. Higher temperatures also occur more frequently in urban areas than rural or suburban surroundings, due to the urban heat island effect. In other words, globalization is that the world has experienced two great waves of gobalization driven by the free trade policies of major trading countries and falling transportation costs. The first wave was from roughly the down of the Industrial Revolution in the 19 century to the World War I, and second has run since 1947. There are still many many popular brands today that are able to be distinguished but, brands are standing out among the rest by gaining a strong positive reputation which far exceeds the quality of there product. Investigating The Investigation Of Arson According to Dehaan and Icove (2011), the investigation of arson can be particularly challenging due to complicated factors associated with the crime scene such as; destruction of physical evidence and lack of eyewitnesses. Despite copious amounts of research examining the characteristics of arsonists leading to the development of treatment programmes; little research contributes to the understanding of patterns of behaviours in relation to arsonists characteristics. In order to deduce offender characteristics from crime scene actions, motivational typologies are usually employed as a result of this relationship. However, it must be highlighted that motives are often an unreliable information source due to offenders ambiguously reporting their supposed motives. Seemingly, Lewis and Yarnell (1951) are accredited with being the first researchers to provide some type of classification system for a group of fire starters, however only in relation to offenders with diminished mental capacity. Also there was other outside forces that played a major role in their theories. Nature and art were said to have helped shape the human race as we know it. (Cleary 39) Rather than disturbing the balance of nature, or being themselves disturbed by things beyond their control, they allow nature to take on its own order and find peace in that setting. A difference in self knowledge can be determined between the two philosophies. Confucianism teaches the idea of spending more time with society learning everything you can so you can judge good from bad and promote virtue. Daoism gives a different view of self knowledge. It promotes the belief that there is more to the world than can be studied. It says that human judgements and teachings can be flawed by lack of understanding the whole worldly picture. Instead, one should go about life with the concept of wu wei (non purposeful action) which allows nature to show humans their ideal path . Nature does not play as big of a role in Confucianism in development as it does for Daoism. Confucianism deals more with your learnings from society and strive for the ideal of a gentleman or perfect man . One thing that is said to be determined by nature is that Confucius never stated whether man was born good or evil, noting that By nature men are similar; by practice men are wide apart (Lun Yu).
