Mentoring is a relationship between the mentor and
the mentee, oriented to discover and develop their
potential. It is based on inspiration, stimulation and
leadership. This means that the mentees, through
appropriate guidance and support from their mentor,
grow in self-confidence, develop a strong sense of
self-awareness in preparation to begin exploring their
chosen business pathway.
In the ELIEMENTAL project we carefully identify Com-
munity Access Points of our target groups.
CAPs are places where people go to have an informal
public life. They could be shops, cafes, community
centres or other places where people go to find out
things, to meet friends or to take part in activities.
These places draw people to them because they are
fun, or have interesting activities or information.
Community access points will be used to reach
ELIEMENTAL target groups to give information about
the project, about enterprise and training. Reach
through the informal setting of a community access
point, that potential beneficiaries already use, may be
an effective way of reaching people who have the
potential for enterprise but have not considered it as
an option.

The Eliemental Project Mentor Programme
Project ELIEMENTAL, a European Project has showed that successful busi-
ness start-ups are often a matter of putting ‘soft skills’ into practice.
What we need at ELIEMENTAL — could you be a Mentor?
While our training will address invisible, personal and community barriers, and
deficits in soft skills that prevent business start ups, feedback from our trainees
suggests that their interest in developing an enterprise is often hampered by a
lack the confidence and support to progress from the ‘ideas stage’.
Developing a mentor program is our way of providing essential support for early
entrepreneurs in the community. Our mentor programme will offer training for
mentors and guidance around providing a semi-formalised support structure to
enable the development of one-on-one relationships between trainees and pro-
fessionals. Acting as a friend, a teacher, and a guide to the real world, mentors
have the opportunity to encourage and advise entrepreneurs by sharing their
own experiences and knowledge of setting up a small business enterprise.

  • 1. Mentoring is a relationship between the mentor and the mentee, oriented to discover and develop their potential. It is based on inspiration, stimulation and leadership. This means that the mentees, through appropriate guidance and support from their mentor, grow in self-confidence, develop a strong sense of self-awareness in preparation to begin exploring their chosen business pathway. In the ELIEMENTAL project we carefully identify Com- munity Access Points of our target groups. CAPs are places where people go to have an informal public life. They could be shops, cafes, community centres or other places where people go to find out things, to meet friends or to take part in activities. These places draw people to them because they are fun, or have interesting activities or information. Community access points will be used to reach ELIEMENTAL target groups to give information about the project, about enterprise and training. Reach through the informal setting of a community access point, that potential beneficiaries already use, may be an effective way of reaching people who have the potential for enterprise but have not considered it as an option. What we need at ELIEMENTAL — could you be a Mentor? While our training will address invisible, personal and community barriers, and deficits in soft skills that prevent business start ups, feedback from our trainees suggests that their interest in developing an enterprise is often hampered by a lack the confidence and support to progress from the ‘ideas stage’. Developing a mentor program is our way of providing essential support for early entrepreneurs in the community. Our mentor programme will offer training for mentors and guidance around providing a semi-formalised support structure to enable the development of one-on-one relationships between trainees and pro- fessionals. Acting as a friend, a teacher, and a guide to the real world, mentors have the opportunity to encourage and advise entrepreneurs by sharing their own experiences and knowledge of setting up a small business enterprise.

ELIEMENTAL intends to create easily accessible training & earning materials that can help our target mentee groups to identify their own personal barriers, manage them effectively, and learn how to create their own business.
