Similarities Between Headmaster And Frederick Douglass
Struggling with Slavery: Life of Frederick Douglass vs. Roots
Kunta Kinte and Frederick Douglass with extremely contrasting backgrounds, resulting in different
lives down the road. Although they are not very similar in results or background they are both
explaining how slavery worked and why it was wrong for people to have slaves. Frederick Douglass
had a privileged life because he was a house boy, but Kunta as a field hand did not have many
privileges. For example, because Frederick Douglass was a house boy he got better clothing, food and
shelter than Kunta who had rags as clothes and very little food. On a completely different note, the
gist of both stories include facts about the harsh punishments created by the slaves masters even for ...

On one hand, Frederick was born a slave in America and raised as a Christian on a plantation without
knowledge of his family. Douglass stated, I was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, and about
twelve miles from Easton in Talbot county, Maryland (Douglass, 1). This piece of evidence is showing
where he is from and where his journey began. But on the other hand, Kunta was born free in Africa
within his Mandinka village of Juffure, he was raised learning the muslim faith living off the Gambia
River and he knew his family. At the beginning of the movie they had shown Kunta Kinte in his
Mandinka village going through man training, this also showed his family which tells you that he
knew where he was from and the people surrounding him. Furthermore, Kunta had to cross the
Atlantic Ocean and go through all the stages of becoming a slave and Frederick Douglass was just
born into slavery. As a matter of fact the movie showed the journey for Kunta and how tough it was
for him while the book portrayed a subtle more laid back city slave lifestyle. Also, in the movie Kunta
had fiddler to rely on and to act as a best friend but in the book it did not speak of any friends for
Frederick Douglass. This was probably because he felt he was higher up than the other slaves and he
even made them feel inferior or it is simply because nobody wanted to be associated with a troubled

19th Century Jewish Culture Essay
Emancipation and enlightenment were pivotal aspects of Jewish history and culture beginning in the
eighteenth century and continuing through to the twentieth century. Influential political figures such as
Mendelssohn laid the framework for Jewish political and social freedoms. This was a direct response
to the oppression and anti Semitism Jewish people have faced for hundreds of thousands of years.
These harsh restrictions placed on Jews worldwide included, the prohibition of full citizenship,
coerced into assimilation, programs, all eventually leading up to the terrors of the Holocaust. The late
nineteenth century, beginning with the year 1881 was an especially critical time for Russian Jewry.
During this time, Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Russian citizens naturally used the Jews as
scapegoats as it was speculated that the Jews were responsible for his untimely death. This was highly
detrimental for the Jewish people as anti semitism soon became a state policy in Russia. As a result,
Russian Jews were subjected to brutal violence also known as pograms. ... Show more content on

Throughout Eastern Europe, religious persecution, urbanization and industrialization lead to a Jewish
socialists movement founded by the General Jewish Workers Union in Poland and Russia. Also known
as The Bund this organization was proactive in identifying the needs of Jewish workers while
simultaneously offering a solution to the larger Jewish problem of living in Eastern Europe during this
time period. Shortly after its success in Russian and Poland, the Jewish socialist movement migrated
to the United States as well. This movement was equally as important in the development of American
Jewry as is allowed for a prosperous growth of Jews as they emigrated to new lands for a better

Ice-Fili Case Analysis
Ice Fili case analysis 1. Please provide an in depth five forces analysis to illustrate the competitive
environment for Russia s ice cream industry. How is it likely to evolve?
Five forces analysis: 1) The bargaining power of suppliers * As some producers such as Ice Fili
wanted to keep their product s quality level, they imported specific raw materials, but they didn t have
a problem in finding new suppliers. * As the technology of Russia was lagged behind Western s, Ice
cream producers needed to import most of their ice cream machines. The bargaining power of
suppliers for raw materials is low, while for facilities is high. 2) The bargaining power of customers *

* The Russian economy is discouraging foreign investments, but the producers needed that money to
update technology, modernize infrastructure, develop marketing and packaging solutions, develop
dealer and distributor networks and so on. * The Russian financial crisis of 1998 resulted in a financial
collapse and devaluation of the ruble by 2/3. The domestic producers had to reduce their reliance on
imported materials and some foreign competitors exited the Russia market. 2) The fierce competition
in Russia * Regional producers, who has a significant cost advantage and are more flexible To meet
the market demand in regional areas, become more competitive. they accounted for about 30% of
domestic market, a few regional even exhibited aggressive growth in Moscow and other metropolitan
markets. * Foreign companies, such as Nestle, have a strong competitive advantage. Nestle has a long
term investment strategy, use local production and supplier to reduce cost, train and develop local staff
who has a better understanding of the local market , and develop its own storage facilities, distribution
and marketing network.. In addition, Nestle develop product that fit Russian taste and traditions. 3)

A Government s Change Of Political Structure
A government s change of political structure needs a careful and cautious review of the various factors
that would evidently adjust for the benefit and advantage of a nation s progress and existence. The
Soviet Republic of Livonia has decided to change its government into a democratic one with two
options that would guide them. And although the goal and objectives are purposeful and legitimate,
the transition would be the most crucial stage of this change because everything may either fall into
place or fall out in synchronism. Democracy is a good choice for the new independent nation
considering that there is a new means of allowing their people to actively cooperate with the
government. The right of suffrage will allow the citizens to elect their chosen representatives
especially for the higher and important positions. Through the constitution, people s rights and
responsibilities will be codified enduring limits to their new government. Frye (309) claimed that even
citizens could participate through political parties that would help the proper dispersion of financial
budgets. However, there is a great threat that economic reform might only be beneficial to narrow
business groups and wealthy personalities that would create a privatization of some economic
regulations. These types of people may drain the country s resources for their benefits. Frye (309)
suggests that such political competition and diverse political coalitions might even prevent the
productive transition

Essay on A Critique of Lines 46-57 of Dante s Inferno
The Up on your feet passage is a famous excerpt from Dante s Inferno. It is quite inspirational, for
good purpose; the passage is half directed at Dante the pilgrim, and half at Dante the poet (his self).
He needed just as much inspiration to finish writing the dang thing as his fictional self needed
inspiration to make it through hell. That is where Virgil s brief monologue comes in. Through his
words, he is able to hype Dante up enough to want to finish writing Inferno, and make it through hell.
But what does he say that is so inspirational? How does this passage fit in with the rest of the poem?
The Up on your feet passage can be broken into three parts, each with its own individual meaning. The
three parts of the Up on your feet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Virgil slaps the idea of quitting out of Dante s mind, he takes lines 52 54 to strike a calmer tone,
and tell Dante he needs to pull his self together and finish this journey. Now, therefore, rise. Control
your breath, and call upon the strength of soul that wins all battles unless it sink in the gross body s
fall. (Lines 52 54) Virgil is communicating to Dante that he needs to take a second to calm down, and
think clearly. Really, he doesn t have a long way to go from here. He does the math, and sees he s got
like one and a half circles of Hell more to conquer. No biggie. Now, speaking to a more rational
Dante, Virgil tells him to find the courage to finish this harrowing journey. Let us not forget where
Dante is. It takes more than a little tolerance to stomach what his senses are taking in throughout this
pilgrimage, not to mention what is yet to come. Now, it s time for Dante to finish his little walk
through Hell.
Lastly, the final piece of the Up on your feet passage in Dante s Inferno relates to the rest of the poem
because it references the coming trials that Dante will have to face. Virgil knows something that Dante
presently does not. In lines 55 57, he hints that this is merely part of a greater journey. There is a
longer ladder yet to climb: this much is not enough. If you understand me, show that

Credit Card And Credit Cards
Being invited by the president of Joliet Junior College to help students who are being lured by credit
predators on the myth that getting a credit card helps people to build their credits. We will use this
opportunity to educate the audience on the concept of credit cards and its responsible use in order to
avoid its snares. Furthermore, we plan on assisting the audience to gain insight on the rationale behind
building good credit through borrowing. According to Tim Chen, the author of American Household
Credit Card Debt, an article published in the year 2015, the average student loan debt is $31,946. He
also states that there s a total of $1.19 trillion in debt for student loans, which have increased 5.9%
from last year. In this paper, we will discuss the myth of how students are being lured by credit card
predators by assuming that getting a credit card helps people build their credits. We will also use this
opportunity to define the concept of credit card and its responsible use in order to avoid its snares.
Furthermore, alert the audience of other ways to build credit such as through borrowing and getting
students loan in less interest rate from the bank.

Characteristics Of Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton demonstrated many dinosaur characteristics and behaviors. The
dinosaurs were fictionally characterized to appeal to the readers. By examining the dinosaur s
appearance and behaviors of dinosaurs such as the duckbilled dinosaur, velociraptor,
hypsilophodontids, dilophosaurs, Triceratops, apatosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurs, and
maiasaurs distinguished whether the evidence existed in the field of paleontology. The behaviors and
characteristics of the dinosaur are divided into three factors as behaviors that were supported, not
supported, and no evidence to support or refute the behavior.
First, Crichton noted that duckbilled dinosaurs were herbivores which are supported by a trace fossil
found in the coal beds of the western North America that indicated footprints with plant fossils
(Martin 2006). Furthermore, duckbilled dinosaurs lived in a vegetated environment that they had to
consume enough food relative to their body size. Duckbilled dinosaurs had lengthened their skull and
smoothed snout to obtain and process more food. The Dilophosaurus was described as two curved
crests that extended from the eyes to the nose. The crest created a V shape on the head with red and
black stripes on the crests (Crichton, 1990). Based on fossil evidence, the Dilophosaurus had two
crests on the head, but there was no indication of the pigment of the crest. Next, the book stated that
the T. rex does not bite the prey, instead, it twisted and tore the

Muchos Somoss By Pablo Neruda Literary Devices
Muchos Somos After reading the poem Muchos Somos By Pablo Neruda in his poem he is describing
himself confuse and conflict of self by revealing different concepts of identity and his trouble dealing
with many personalities. The metaphor is found in the last line of the poem when he says, I shall speak
not of self, but of geography. (Neruda, Line 45) I believe he is comparing his character to a world of
unknown lands like a town placed in a valley or a river. Without an understanding of Neruda s mind it
seems he feels lost and powerless, and this metaphor helps the reader to express those feelings.
Another example of metaphor that also highlights the feelings of Neruda is at the beginning of the

The Whale Rider By Niki Caro
The Whale Rider by Niki Caro is a film about a young girl, Paikea s journey to acceptance from her
grandfather. This film explores many themes such as feminism, family and conflict. One of the main
conflicts explored throughout this film is the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro, Paikea s
grandparents. Conflict is an important issue in this film because it causes rupture among an already
fractured family.
The film Whale Rider is based around a family living on the East Coast of New Zealand, in
Whangara. The film revolves around two characters, Koro and his granddaughter Paikea. Koro is the
chief in his village and he is growing old meaning soon he will have to pass down his title. Staying

Nanny Flowers didn t like this gesture and after Koro had said goodbye made him hold her. Here, hold
your granddaughter, Nanny told him. This was an important quote for, during this time because of
Koro s rejection too Paikea the conflict between these two characters ignited. Nanny Flowers thought
this was wrong and stood by Paikea for she was only an innocent child and Koro was being a blinded
man. He was looking for something that didn t exist, a prophet, a new leader who was going to lead
their family to great heights. During this scene, Niki Caro used some clever camera movement and
shot compositions to enhance the message she was trying to get across. When we see Koro saying
goodbye to Pai s brother the shot we see is from behind a glass wall, behind Nanny Flowers shoulders.
This was effective because the shot was made out to be from Nanny Flowers perspective. Caro also
used the wall as a barrier showing that there is separation between the characters. This was clever of
Caro because this event was the beginning of the conflict between Nanny Flowers and Koro.
Throughout the film the conflict between these characters builds until the very end of the film when,
the conflict reaches its peak. At the end of the film one of the last events is helping a whole pod of
beached whales, back into the sea. After a long night s struggle Paikea gets onto the biggest

Thesis Outline Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
Bella Katz Humanities 10 Mrs. Beer and Mr. Wagner October 26, 2017 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
Fire INTRO PARAGRAPH Thesis = Even though the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire was a horrible
event and killed a lot of people, it helped the United States improve their factory working conditions
and helped strengthen the woman s work unions. The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max
Blanck and Isaac Harris. This factory produced shirtwaists, which are high necked cotton blouses that
working woman wore in 1911.These shirts resembled men s shirts. The factory was located on the
corner of Greene Street and Washington Place, Manhattan in the Asch building. There were ten floors
in the Asch building but the factory was only on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors. All of the workers who
worked at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory were very young and were not treated well. They were all
around 15 years old and were mostly Italian and Jewish immigrants. Their work was 7 days a week
and 12 hours a day. For all of this work and time, they were only paid about 6 15 dollars a week which
is not a lot of money. Lunch was their only break during the 12 hour day and it was for just a half an
hour. However, during the factories busy season, their work was basically non stop and even more
demanding. Also, in some cases, they were required to bring their own supplies including needles,
thread, irons and sometimes even their own sewing machines. Surprisingly, around 500 people worked
there every day. Not only were the workers not treated well, the building was also very unsanitary and
unsafe. They worked on top of each other in cramped spaces where there were just lines and lines of
sewing machines. The exit doors were locked in order to stop the workers from leaving to go to the
bathroom. Only the foreman had the keys to unlock the doors. There were four elevators that had
access to the factory floors but only one of them were in working condition. In order to get to the
working elevator, the workers had to go down a long narrow hallway. This elevator was only able to
hold 12 people at a time. Factory floors had no sprinkler system and the entire building only had one
fire escape that was not big enough for all of the people in

Piano Failure
Every Tuesday afternoon after preschool my mother took my brother, my sister, and me to the home of
a kind woman. There, my mother failed to distract me with crosswords and coloring books; instead,
the nearby dissonances and unsteady rhythms enticed my innocent mind. Each night at home, I heard
similar sounds after my father returned from work, but those tones instead formed rich melodies. I
knew that the key to skillfully producing the impassioned music which I listened to every night lay in
what I witnessed my older siblings do every Tuesday: take piano lessons. I begged my mother to allow
me to study under the kind woman, and she reluctantly agreed despite her worries about my short
attention span. I was three years old.

It was as if my middle school self was an unhappy worker who devoted his capacities to fortune and
fame instead of unmaterialistic authenticity. While I may have had sporadic moments of satisfaction,
my happiness was not sustainable. Until I experienced true failure by not even passing the screening
round for the junior division Renee B. Fisher Competition in eighth grade (a piano competition held in
New Haven, CT) did I begin questioning my intentions on piano. Should I even seriously pursue
something at which I am not the best? Of course, I acted unperturbed by this rejection and left myself
alone to discover that I must forsake my musical materialism and instead appreciate the intangible
dimensions of music. Entering high school, I experimented with original melodies and chord
progressions until I attained a conceptual grasp of music theory, which enabled me to fathom the skill
and insight of revolutionarily creative composers from Bach to Gershwin as well as begin composing
myself. A freeing abundance of pleasure emerged from my ability to improvise; I could create lush
melodies or enhance those I already know at my leisure. Improvisation now relieves stress, distracts
me from monotonous routines, and even allows me to orchestrate my pieces for a written channel of
my emotion. A new independence evinced from my incorporeal understanding of music, and with this
new understanding of the intangible aspects of music, I placed fourth in the senior division of the
same competition I had failed three years

George Orwell And 1984 Comparison
George Orwell s 1984 is about a party member of Oceania named Winston Smith. Oceania is a
dystopian society that controls the people through constant surveillance and doublethink, which is the
acceptance of two contradictory beliefs used to change a person s memory more easily. Throughout
the novel, Winston talks about his hatred towards Big Brother, the leader of Oceania, and how he
wants to put a stop to the party. One way he does that is he falls in love with a young woman named
Julia and they have relations with each other to rebel against the party. It is clear that when George
Orwell wrote 1984, he was greatly influenced by Yevgeny Zamyatin s We. Because of this, people
tend to compare the two novels with each other. When comparing D 503 ... Show more content on

In We, D 503 thinks his government is perfect and thinks that what OneState stands for is what is best
for the people. D 503 wants everything to be perfect and for everything to be perfect there has to be
complete control over everyone and everything. He likes that there is complete control over the people
of OneState because it makes his world mathematically perfect. In contrast to D 503, Winston
disagrees with everything that Oceania stands for. He does not agree with how the Party controls the
people through doublethink and constant surveillance. When writing in his journal one day, His pen
had slid voluptuously over the smooth paper, printing in large neat capitals DOWN WITH BIG
BROTHER (Orwell 18). Winston hates big brother and wants nothing to do with him or the party. He
is committing a thought crime by just writing his true feelings down. He hates the Party so much that
he is willing to risk his life by writing down his hatred towards the Party and big brother. To
summarize this difference, D 503 loves his government and wants the people of OneState to be
controlled, while Winston hates his government and wants to put a stop to the party. Because of this
difference, Orwell departs from Zamyatin s protagonist by having his protagonist actually show his
disapproval of the party instead of loving his government like D 503

Essay about The Odyssey as a Hero Journey
All of us have similar experiences. We share in the life journey of growth, development, and
transformation. We live the same stories…the trappings might be different, the twists and turns that
create suspense might be different from culture to culture, the particular characters may take different
forms, but underneath it all, it s the same story, drawn from the same experiences (Linda Seger,
Creating
Myth, 1).
All people face trials and tribulations throughout their life. Thus, what defines one from one s fellow
human beings is not the trials themselves, but how one overcomes the challenges along the journey, as
well as the psychological and physical lessons one learns from the actions engaged. Heroes, as

For one month Odysseus refuses to leave his safe home in peaceful and bountiful Ithaca. The reader is
not told of the rationale behind his final decision to join the war; however, one must assume that he
believes he will be successful, returning home with many spoils of war, or that he will receive honor
for participating. His decision to leave Ithaca cannot be simply based on a whim: he is a young king
with many responsibilities, and while he rules his land with great strength, he is inexperienced. Thus,
the reasons for initiating his journey most probably include the experience and maturity he will gain
fighting the Trojans.
One can ascertain that the actual catalyst that enters into Odysseus life is the Trojan War itself. The
war represents a first step for
Odysseus; after all, while it is his trickery that eventually wins the war for the Achaens (it was his idea
to build the large wooden horse in which the Achaen army hid and from which they successfully
defeated
Troy, we are introduced to Odysseus as the great tactician (Book
VII, 232 301). Cunning is a trait he already possesses: it cannot be the object of his journey; it merely
starts him off. Yet he must initially survive the battle, and his survival proves his capacity to undertake
the journey, moving him to the next stage of the Hero
Journey.
The Second stage of the Hero Journey is the most visible. It consists of the trials that

Compare And Contrast Existentialism And Nihilism
Let s say that you had to choose to believe in one of the following schools of philosophies:
Existentialism and Nihilism. What would you choose? You wouldn t take a long time deciding
because these two are significantly different from one another. Existentialism is when you appreciate
life and you live your life passionately; believing that your actions will determine your fate and
therefore you can change it. Nihilism however, is the exact opposite. Anything that restrains you from
living your life to the fullest is considered to be nihilistic and you just believe in nothing because at
the end that s worthless. In Grendel, the two most dominant schools of philosophy presented are

passes through the three stages of existentialism designed by the 19th century philosopher,

stage is the aesthetic stage, where one simply acts in whichever way they wish to as long as it brings
them happiness and pleasure. We see this happen to Grendel as well when... The second stage is

Photo Observation
I think this photo is a good representation of space because the small hill in the bottom middle leads
your eye back and everything gets smaller towards the back. I dropped the horizon because I liked
how the skies take up almost half of the top because it shows movement and distance from one side of
the photo to the next. Originally, the photo was very dark so I increased the brightness and contrast at
different levels for the sky and the trees/houses respectively. I added a sepia photo filter to give a
warm effect, and dodged and burned the parts that were hit by the light and shadowed by it.

I wanted to make the blue gradient in the sky more noticeable so I fixed the hue and saturation of the
sky. I also dodged and burned the skies to make them stand out more. I added an orange photo filter
near where the sunlight diffused around the tree.
This picture best represents rule of thirds because the leaves are not in the middle of the picture, but
rather in the bottom right corner. I like how the leaves frame the sky on the bottom without covering
too much of it. I made the blue in the sky more contrasted and brighter. I also made the leaves redder
and with a paintbrush went over some parts with red to make them a bit brighter.
For this photograph, I had my mom stand under the tree because I really liked how the leaves
contrasted against her and the trees and house in the background. I made her skin softer and added a
layer mask to the leaves and her eyes so they stood out more clearly. I really liked how the couple
leaves in the front were so clear and I liked how the light hit them so I did not change anything about
them. Her pose in this photo gave off a very relaxed vibe. You can tell that she is thinking of
something but her neutral expression makes the photo even more

American Sniper Quotes
In the autobiography American Sniper by Chris Kyle, Chris is a violent and malicious figure in many
different ways. The wicked motives of his actions are what particularly makes Chris a cruel being.
Chris ended up recording over 160 confirmed kills during the Iraq War, in which he recorded the most
amount of sniper kills in U.S history. However, the intent of his kills were far from humane. Chris
stated during his BUD/S training that, I wanted to be a SEAL in the worst way (Kyle 20). The quote
implies he wanted to be a SEAL just so he can get involved in the action, and shoot down Iraqis. Chris
constantly reminds readers of his vicious attitude through statements such as, I wanted, more than

The Legacy Of Abraham Cahan
Jews have been lashed out on, time and time again throughout history, but one man who saw this
hatred for Jews first hand and tried turning the tables, was a man by the name of Abraham Cahan. He
is known as being the first prominent writer to emerge from the biggest wave of Jewish immigration
from Russia, but he was much more than just a writer. He was an editor and critic of several New York
newspapers, a sociologists reformer, and a teacher of English to many Jewish immigrants following in
his footsteps. Cahan valued his Jewish religion, but not only that, he valued language and in particular
English and Yiddish which he wrote in. He believed in telling the story of immigration through fiction
which he did in his literature, by taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is just one battle in a continuous war against maintaining his religion, but he had a changing
world around him tearing him apart from it. In this constant war, he ends up having to flee Europe in
particular Russia, because he gets tangled in a mess involving an assassination attempt of the Czar.
This journey leads him to America, where he is first greeted by the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island.
When Cahan came to America many things changed for him, he was forced to leave behind his old life
and try his hardest to assimilate himself into American culture. He left behind many aspects of his
culture, but was still able to continue on with many of them. One piece of his life that was hardest to
maintain was his language. Although he held onto Yiddish, Russian, and Hebrew, he immediately had
to learn English which soon became a large part of his career and what made him so astounding.
America is said to be the home of the free, and this is what so many immigrants desired when coming
to America, and Cahan was no exception. He was a tremendous aid to those immigrants by devoting
the first years of his life in America to teaching English. While doing this, he also lectured and wrote
articles on Jewish life in the city for countless New York magazines. Within these articles he answers
many questions on tough arguments, mostly circled around religion. An example of one

Euro/USD Exchange rate
December 7, 2015
Exchange Rate
The exchange rate between countries determines one currency s strength in comparison to another.
These rates also oversee the economic growth and the currency purchasing power of countries.
Therefore, exchange rates are vital in ensuring that one country can maintain its value versus the US
dollar which is the most dominant currency. Currently, the Euro/USD exchange rate is at 1.0666. This
paper strives to give clear predictions on the value of the Euro against the USD short term and long

It is unlikely for the Euro to gain stability based on the current market movement and expected market
movement in the next three months. With fed intervention, it is expected to see the Euro/USD
exchange rate rise to 1.05, (Eurorateforecast.com, 2015). The Euro is expected to continue declining
for the next three months and even in the foreseeable future. The declining rate has enabled currencies
such as USD and Sterling Pounds to make gains against the Euro in a very substantial manner. The
declining rate of the Euro/USD exchange rate is expected to follow the trend outlined below in the
next three months. The Euro/USD exchange rate is expected to fall to 1.07 in a period of one month
and then to 1.05 in three months. The latter will see the USD gain strength against the Euro, (Bank,
2015). The strength of Euro mainly depends on the desire of private investors to hold assets in Euros.
The European Central Bank has failed to check the anti inflationary measures that will assist in seeing
the Euro strengthen against the US Dollar. The Central bank has also failed to maintain the price
stability that has facilitated the continued deterioration of the Euro.
The Euro/USD exchange rate is expected to decline further to 0.98 in two years due to the various

Apart from that, parents personality and some additional objective factors have a noticeable

Odors Memory
Sleep Supports Memory of Odors
Smells trigger memories on an emotional level. We, as humans, have a stronger emotional response to
odor triggered memories than any other sense. Smells of a perfume or a ripe banana brings back
memories of old. As for new experiences, memories consolidate in our sleep. Even though it is not
known what stage of sleep this consolidation occurs, plenty of research qualifies this idea. In the
research article Sleep Supports Memory of Odors in Adults but Not in Children, Prehn Kristensen,

The arrests were indiscriminate, to the point where an internal review by the soviet authorities showed
that 35,000 people had been wrongfully arrested (Kitchen 2012). Most of these people were released
in 1948; however, there were thousands who were handed over to German authorities in 1949 to
complete their sentences. Approximately 150,000 Germans were interned between 1945 and 1950, and
the death rates in these camps have been estimated to be around 35 40 percent (Bruce 2003, p.6).
Riemann served 8 years and 16 days of her 10 year sentence as a political prisoner. Following her
arrest, she spent time in a castle dungeon at Ludwiglust for questioning. She was forced to confess to
crimes she did not commit, including being part of the Nazi resistance movement. She was then taken

Definition Of Happiness
I don t believe it is necessary to aspire to greatness; I choose instead to aspire to goodness. If I work to
be the best person I can be, both to myself and to those around me, then by being good, I may have
become great. This virtue of character and action can mean different things to different people, for no
one has the same goals and ideals. There is no universal purpose.
I think a lack of destiny, or of some global grand purpose, is a freeing concept. Since, when life is
approached with an astronomical perspective the lives and happenings on one tiny planet are pretty
much irrelevant, each individual can find a better purpose in life they want. I am not constrained by
any predestined purpose.
And in fact, one of main goals in life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t think that that happiness is any less real that happiness I gain emotionally through others. They
re a different sort of emotion perhaps, but both candles and family make me feel fuzzy and warm. And
certainly happiness is no one thing for anyone. Others might feel satisfied whenever they buy a nice
painting. It s nothing more than some pigment/resin/solvent mix on a canvas, but the happiness comes
from the meaning we attach to items. Candles make me happy because of the situations, actions, and
experiences I associate with them. Though they are but material goods, they have a meaning to me
like any other item might to someone else.
This extends to the entirety of your life, for life is truly what you make of it.
Some of the most horrible happenings can end up having incredible effects on your life. Part of living
happily is accepting that, and knowing that there is a silver lining to every cloud. For example, after
my mother died, I was understandably distraught. But it is through that experience that I ve come to
learn so much. Not only have I seen how strong my family members (and myself) could be, but I ve
also come to have one of the kindest step mothers of all time. If my mother had never died, I d never
have met my step mom and had her become such an important part of my life. Thus, even in tragedy,
there is something to be thankful for.
But you can t just arbitrarily choose to be happy.
This is a lifestyle, requiring continuous,

Challenges And Challenges Of A Transition During Change
Trying to motivate and inspire people to make change can be difficult. Many people are stuck in their
comfort zone and don t like making change. There are many factors and obstacles that contribute to
this issue, but being aware of these issues and knowing how to address them from the beginning will
make for a smoother transition. Kotter (2007) explains eight categories that many companies,
organizations, or groups fail at when trying to make and implement changes. In order for your
transition during change to be the most successful, you must address each step along the way or
people will not be on board with you. The eight stages include: establish a sense of urgency, form a
powerful guiding coalition, create a vision, communicate the vision, empower others to act on the
vision, plan for and create short term wins, consolidate improvements and produce more change, and
institutionalize new approaches. If your change is failing, addressing these eight areas will make your
plan more successful. Knowing each step will help leaders from making common mistakes, avoiding
unnecessary roadblocks along the way (Kotter 2007). The first step that causes many people to fail is
not establishing a great sense of urgency. One must show people statistics, the company s position, or
funds, in a dramatic way, in order for people to realize that something must be done quickly. You must
motivate them to believe there is a problem and that change is needed. Many people fail in

Comparing Women In Hinduism And Christianity
Throughout history women have been treated as objects. Although it has never been a better time to be
a woman, people today treat women with disrespect. A reason women are treated this way is because
of religion and the societies that surround them. Some religions have put women down and morphed
the image of women to fulfill their religious views. Two of these aforementioned religions are
Hinduism and Christianity. These religions have made out women to be lower than men in both
similar and different ways. Hinduism and Christianity put women in a negative light and it effects the
women in their communities.
Like most religions the perception of women has evolved over time. Sometimes it was for the better
other times it is for the worse. An example of this is exemplified in Hinduism. According to A Concise
Encyclopedia of Hinduism by Klaus K. Klostermaier, In Vedic times women were the equals of men
in almost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example:
Leviticus 12:2
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then
she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be
unclean.
1 Corinthians 11:3 *
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the
man; and the head of Christ [is] God. (And many more)
Unfortunately, some people in the faith believe that women are automatically sinners because of Eve
eating the fruit and due to the aforementioned verses. Although the severity in the discrimination isn t
as overt as in Hinduism, there are still issues that affect Christian women today. The history of
Christianity would have had a very different development if it had not been for the generous support
of many women... who played an effective and precious role in spreading the Gospel. Their witness
cannot be forgotten.

Little Endian And The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Each...
1. Describe Big Endian, Little Endian and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
Memory is a lot like a large array but rather than using the term index to indicate specific locations in
memory; we use the term address . Each address stores one element at the level of the byte (Curran,
2006). Although some data types exceed 1 byte; they can be assigned to span more than a single byte
to accommodate larger values.
Within a byte the value is determined by checking the bits right to left. This means that the right most
$#$#0$#$# can be o or 1 value and any bits towards the left indicate a higher value. There are two
ways in which data can be stored in memory. The little endian approach stores new values in a way
that starts at the left and expands to the right, so that each new piece of data is added to the right , ...

The small endian has the advantage that it doesn t feature the overhead of shifting bytes all over the
place that big endian involves. Additionally once conceived in the above light (the last example),
small endian surpasses big endian in terms of understandability.
2. Describe what an overflow is and how it occurs. Describe some of the problems that overflow
causes, one area that you should research (among others) is the concept of integer based security
attacks.
Basically an overflow is the result where a digit for example, is too large to occupy a certain memory
space and thereby smears other memory locations corrupting data or presenting a security risk to the
operating system. The result of an overflow can cause erratic program behavior, memory access
errors, incorrect results, software vulnerabilities and/or the crash of the operating system.
According to Wikipedia ( Overflow Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 2015), there are many types of

Nursing Management of an Atrial Fibrillation Patient With Peptic Ulcer Mr. C.J. is a married 68 year
old African American man who presents to the emergency department with a chief complaint (CC) of

The Television Show Gossip Girl
Including lots of technical events does help to make television shows more esthetically pleasing, but
there is more to it than just a prettier picture. For this part of the experiment I watched the television
show Gossip Girl. The entire time I watch the episode I was constantly marking down technical
events. Technical events affect out perception of reality. It might sound strange, but by using technical
events the production companies are tricking our brains to believe that life happens in small moments.
As an observer we only witness snippets of the full picture, our reality becomes smaller, shrunk down
by the absence of real time. It tricks the viewer into focussing only on the pretty picture the director
and producers want us to see. We are unable to witness the fuller picture. In real life people think
about so many variables, but in television we only focus on one thing at a time. When one watches a
television show it could take them only forty five minutes to watch an episode, but days could go by
for the characters. This messes with their perception of time. We base our recognition of time off ever
changing elements, by finishing and completing different tasks. When one watches TV however the
viewer is unable to separate different moments because of technical events, which ruins our perception
of time. Watching television without sound or subtitles was a very unique experience. For the first
couple of minutes all I did was try and figure out what the character

Ethical Ethics In Nestle
Q3. c, Research the Internet and provide three examples where Nestle or its subsidiaries have
demonstrated ethical practices (i.e., giving back to the community).
Nestlé is known to be one of the most hated companies in the world. Due to its several unethical
activities (like child labor, mislabelling, price fixing, pollution, its marketing of baby formula in poor
countries, etc.) that has received a lot of controversy and criticisms and even a long standing boycott
from consumers. However, if we look further into this company s history, Nestle was not that evil. The
proof is that we can still find out some ethical activities of Nestle recently.
Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI)

Similarities Between Headmaster And Frederick Douglass Struggling with Slavery: Life of Frederick Douglass vs. Roots Kunta Kinte and Frederick Douglass with extremely contrasting backgrounds, resulting in different lives down the road. Although they are not very similar in results or background they are both explaining how slavery worked and why it was wrong for people to have slaves. Frederick Douglass had a privileged life because he was a house boy, but Kunta as a field hand did not have many privileges. On one hand, Frederick was born a slave in America and raised as a Christian on a plantation without knowledge of his family. Douglass stated, I was born in Tuckahoe, near Hillsborough, and about twelve miles from Easton in Talbot county, Maryland (Douglass, 1). This piece of evidence is showing where he is from and where his journey began. But on the other hand, Kunta was born free in Africa within his Mandinka village of Juffure, he was raised learning the muslim faith living off the Gambia River and he knew his family. At the beginning of the movie they had shown Kunta Kinte in his Mandinka village going through man training, this also showed his family which tells you that he knew where he was from and the people surrounding him. Furthermore, Kunta had to cross the Atlantic Ocean and go through all the stages of becoming a slave and Frederick Douglass was just born into slavery. As a matter of fact the movie showed the journey for Kunta and how tough it was for him while the book portrayed a subtle more laid back city slave lifestyle. Also, in the movie Kunta had fiddler to rely on and to act as a best friend but in the book it did not speak of any friends for Frederick Douglass. This was probably because he felt he was higher up than the other slaves and he even made them feel inferior or it is simply because nobody wanted to be associated with a troubled ... • 3. 19th Century Jewish Culture Essay Emancipation and enlightenment were pivotal aspects of Jewish history and culture beginning in the eighteenth century and continuing through to the twentieth century. Influential political figures such as Mendelssohn laid the framework for Jewish political and social freedoms. This was a direct response to the oppression and anti Semitism Jewish people have faced for hundreds of thousands of years. These harsh restrictions placed on Jews worldwide included, the prohibition of full citizenship, coerced into assimilation, programs, all eventually leading up to the terrors of the Holocaust. The late nineteenth century, beginning with the year 1881 was an especially critical time for Russian Jewry. During this time, Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. Russian citizens naturally used the Jews as scapegoats as it was speculated that the Jews were responsible for his untimely death. This was highly detrimental for the Jewish people as anti semitism soon became a state policy in Russia. As a result, Russian Jews were subjected to brutal violence also known as pograms. ... • 5. A Government s Change Of Political Structure A government s change of political structure needs a careful and cautious review of the various factors that would evidently adjust for the benefit and advantage of a nation s progress and existence. The Soviet Republic of Livonia has decided to change its government into a democratic one with two options that would guide them. And although the goal and objectives are purposeful and legitimate, the transition would be the most crucial stage of this change because everything may either fall into place or fall out in synchronism. Democracy is a good choice for the new independent nation considering that there is a new means of allowing their people to actively cooperate with the government. The right of suffrage will allow the citizens to elect their chosen representatives especially for the higher and important positions. Through the constitution, people s rights and responsibilities will be codified enduring limits to their new government. Frye (309) claimed that even citizens could participate through political parties that would help the proper dispersion of financial budgets. However, there is a great threat that economic reform might only be beneficial to narrow business groups and wealthy personalities that would create a privatization of some economic regulations. These types of people may drain the country s resources for their benefits. Frye (309) suggests that such political competition and diverse political coalitions might even prevent the productive transition ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on A Critique of Lines 46-57 of Dante s Inferno The Up on your feet passage is a famous excerpt from Dante s Inferno. It is quite inspirational, for good purpose; the passage is half directed at Dante the pilgrim, and half at Dante the poet (his self). He needed just as much inspiration to finish writing the dang thing as his fictional self needed inspiration to make it through hell. That is where Virgil s brief monologue comes in. Through his words, he is able to hype Dante up enough to want to finish writing Inferno, and make it through hell. But what does he say that is so inspirational? How does this passage fit in with the rest of the poem? The Up on your feet passage can be broken into three parts, each with its own individual meaning. The three parts of the Up on your feet ... After Virgil slaps the idea of quitting out of Dante s mind, he takes lines 52 54 to strike a calmer tone, and tell Dante he needs to pull his self together and finish this journey. Now, therefore, rise. Control your breath, and call upon the strength of soul that wins all battles unless it sink in the gross body s fall. (Lines 52 54) Virgil is communicating to Dante that he needs to take a second to calm down, and think clearly. Really, he doesn t have a long way to go from here. He does the math, and sees he s got like one and a half circles of Hell more to conquer. No biggie. Now, speaking to a more rational Dante, Virgil tells him to find the courage to finish this harrowing journey. Let us not forget where Dante is. It takes more than a little tolerance to stomach what his senses are taking in throughout this pilgrimage, not to mention what is yet to come. Now, it s time for Dante to finish his little walk through Hell. Lastly, the final piece of the Up on your feet passage in Dante s Inferno relates to the rest of the poem because it references the coming trials that Dante will have to face. Virgil knows something that Dante presently does not. In lines 55 57, he hints that this is merely part of a greater journey. There is a longer ladder yet to climb: this much is not enough. The dinosaurs were fictionally characterized to appeal to the readers. By examining the dinosaur s appearance and behaviors of dinosaurs such as the duckbilled dinosaur, velociraptor, hypsilophodontids, dilophosaurs, Triceratops, apatosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurs, and maiasaurs distinguished whether the evidence existed in the field of paleontology. The behaviors and characteristics of the dinosaur are divided into three factors as behaviors that were supported, not supported, and no evidence to support or refute the behavior. First, Crichton noted that duckbilled dinosaurs were herbivores which are supported by a trace fossil found in the coal beds of the western North America that indicated footprints with plant fossils (Martin 2006). Furthermore, duckbilled dinosaurs lived in a vegetated environment that they had to consume enough food relative to their body size. Duckbilled dinosaurs had lengthened their skull and smoothed snout to obtain and process more food. The Dilophosaurus was described as two curved crests that extended from the eyes to the nose. The crest created a V shape on the head with red and black stripes on the crests (Crichton, 1990). The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. This factory produced shirtwaists, which are high necked cotton blouses that working woman wore in 1911.These shirts resembled men s shirts. The factory was located on the corner of Greene Street and Washington Place, Manhattan in the Asch building. There were ten floors in the Asch building but the factory was only on the 8th, 9th, and 10th floors. All of the workers who worked at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory were very young and were not treated well. They were all around 15 years old and were mostly Italian and Jewish immigrants. Their work was 7 days a week and 12 hours a day. For all of this work and time, they were only paid about 6 15 dollars a week which is not a lot of money. The Legacy Of Abraham Cahan Jews have been lashed out on, time and time again throughout history, but one man who saw this hatred for Jews first hand and tried turning the tables, was a man by the name of Abraham Cahan. He is known as being the first prominent writer to emerge from the biggest wave of Jewish immigration from Russia, but he was much more than just a writer. He was an editor and critic of several New York newspapers, a sociologists reformer, and a teacher of English to many Jewish immigrants following in his footsteps. Cahan valued his Jewish religion, but not only that, he valued language and in particular English and Yiddish which he wrote in. He believed in telling the story of immigration through fiction which he did in his literature, by taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is just one battle in a continuous war against maintaining his religion, but he had a changing world around him tearing him apart from it. In this constant war, he ends up having to flee Europe in particular Russia, because he gets tangled in a mess involving an assassination attempt of the Czar. This journey leads him to America, where he is first greeted by the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island. When Cahan came to America many things changed for him, he was forced to leave behind his old life and try his hardest to assimilate himself into American culture. He left behind many aspects of his culture, but was still able to continue on with many of them. One piece of his life that was hardest to maintain was his language. Although he held onto Yiddish, Russian, and Hebrew, he immediately had to learn English which soon became a large part of his career and what made him so astounding. America is said to be the home of the free, and this is what so many immigrants desired when coming to America, and Cahan was no exception. He was a tremendous aid to those immigrants by devoting the first years of his life in America to teaching English. While doing this, he also lectured and wrote articles on Jewish life in the city for countless New York magazines. Within these articles he answers many questions on tough arguments, mostly circled around religion. An example of one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Euro/USD exchange rate is expected to fall to 1.07 in a period of one month and then to 1.05 in three months. The latter will see the USD gain strength against the Euro, (Bank, 2015). Many people are stuck in their comfort zone and don t like making change. There are many factors and obstacles that contribute to this issue, but being aware of these issues and knowing how to address them from the beginning will make for a smoother transition. Kotter (2007) explains eight categories that many companies, organizations, or groups fail at when trying to make and implement changes. In order for your transition during change to be the most successful, you must address each step along the way or people will not be on board with you. The eight stages include: establish a sense of urgency, form a powerful guiding coalition, create a vision, communicate the vision, empower others to act on the vision, plan for and create short term wins, consolidate improvements and produce more change, and institutionalize new approaches. If your change is failing, addressing these eight areas will make your plan more successful. Knowing each step will help leaders from making common mistakes, avoiding unnecessary roadblocks along the way (Kotter 2007). The first step that causes many people to fail is not establishing a great sense of urgency. One must show people statistics, the company s position, or funds, in a dramatic way, in order for people to realize that something must be done quickly. Although it has never been a better time to be a woman, people today treat women with disrespect. A reason women are treated this way is because of religion and the societies that surround them. Some religions have put women down and morphed the image of women to fulfill their religious views. Two of these aforementioned religions are Hinduism and Christianity. These religions have made out women to be lower than men in both similar and different ways. Hinduism and Christianity put women in a negative light and it effects the women in their communities. Memory is a lot like a large array but rather than using the term index to indicate specific locations in memory; we use the term address . Each address stores one element at the level of the byte (Curran, 2006). Although some data types exceed 1 byte; they can be assigned to span more than a single byte to accommodate larger values. Within a byte the value is determined by checking the bits right to left. This means that the right most $#$#0$#$# can be o or 1 value and any bits towards the left indicate a higher value. There are two ways in which data can be stored in memory.
