This paper introduces a high-density, high-efficiency, isolated on-board vehicle battery charger utilizing silicon carbide (SiC) power devices, which is designed for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The charger features a two-stage architecture that includes a bridgeless boost AC-DC converter followed by a phase-shifted full-bridge DC-DC converter, achieving a peak efficiency of 95% and significant improvements in volumetric and gravimetric power density compared to previous models. The work emphasizes enhancements in system density and efficiency, supported by experimental results from a developed hardware prototype.
