A System for the Automatic Comparison of Machine and Human Geocoded Documents

This document discusses comparing machine-generated geocoding of documents to human-generated geocoding using MeSH terms from PubMed abstracts on avian flu as a case study. Over 4,500 abstracts were analyzed and around 2,000 referred to geographic locations. The accuracy of extracted geographic entities from the abstracts was calculated by country and issues like gazetteer mismatches and errors in the named entity extractor were discussed.

Currently, the use of Moses-based engines that have been developed in Europe is prevalent for machine translation within the translation industry. These engines, however, have been developed with a focus on European languages, and have been found to be lacking in quality output for languages pairs which have strikingly different linguistic structures, like Japanese and English. To address the increasing need for Japanese-English and English-Japanese machine translations, research has been progressing within Japan to create engines that can maintain high quality even between languages with unsimilar linguistic traits.
Human Science, an independent organization which does not develop or sell MT engines, has been researching the potential of utilizing MT engines developed within Japan in practical translation project settings. This presentation will introduce MT engines which have been developed in Japan and have yet to be widely adopted for translation for industry. By drawing on eight years of experience in Machine Translation to present actual project data and comparisons with common MT engines, we will consider the potential of MT engines developed in Japan, not only for the Japanese-English language pair, but also between English and other Asian languages which greatly differ in linguistic structure. know it is an information technology course however I don’t have the interest to talk about technology for example introducing a software however my interest more roles to history and facts. That is why I chose my topic “ the history of communication”. My topic is consisted on 6 main points. The first point in my presentation is defining the term communication in which people can relate to or find it simpler to absorb. Secondly I have listed communication types followed by communication tools. Concluding the presentation into 3 points and displaying my bibliography of my previous research’s sources. The “Questions” template is the last slide and that’s is to allow the students to ask me any question they want to know more.
I used for my presentation the classic Microsoft PowerPoint software. I didn’t want to complicate things or introduce the topic it artistically. I believe a topic can reach people by its simplicity and highlights. I think my topic is useful to ZU student in which it presents new information they can add to their background around communication history.

Using the Semantic Web to Support Ecoinformatics
We describe our on-going work in using the semantic web in support of ecological informatics, and demonstrate a distributed platform for constructing end-to-end use cases. Specifically, we describe ELVIS (the Ecosystem Location Visualization and Information System), a suite of tools for constructing food webs for a given location, and Triple Shop, a SPARQL query interface which allows scientists to semi-automatically construct distributed datasets relevant to the queries they want to ask. ELVIS functionality is exposed as a collection of web services, and all input and output data is expressed in OWL, thereby enabling its integration with Triple Shop and other semantic web resources.

HealthMap is a system that monitors disease outbreaks around the world by processing over 20,000 news and unstructured web sites every hour using text clustering, matching, filtering and other algorithms. It provides a "heat index" alert system to identify potential disease outbreaks based on the number and recency of reports from different locations. While most alerts currently come from English language sources, the system also covers Spanish, French and Russian. It is used as a public health monitoring and response tool by various organizations and sees 500-600 daily users. Future work aims to improve algorithms, add more languages and collaborate with other health networks.

Demonstrating working prototypes will help address technical details and allow computational scientists to fully leverage network capabilities.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).
