Exhibition Review For our exhibition review, our class visited the Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts
on Wednesday September 21st. This semester the exhibition being presented is Transformers: re
contextualizing our material culture, the exhibition is curated by China Marx. The artists shown in the
exhibit are: Garry Noland, Gerry Trilling, and Julie Peppito. I have never truly analyzed art before,
and a textile museum was the last place I pictured myself at Florida Tech. As soon as I walked in I felt
like I was in a whole different world. There were beautiful pieces of handmade jewelry, and scarves
for sale all over the walls and shelves. The walls were pure white, and looked very modern. Banners
hung from the second floor ceiling down to the ground behind the desk. The banners read Ruth Funk
Center for Textile Arts. I knew this exhibition was going to be beautiful as soon as I walked in, and I
was right. The exhibition beautifully showed how one can view different aspects of life and
demonstrated the necessity of reusing waste and finding beauty and detail in everything around us.
The first piece that jumped out at me was by Garry Noland, it was sitting on the ground and looked
like three beautiful shiny rocks that were dipped in gold paint. Upon greater observation I realized that

The Firebird It was dark at the castle; Not a soul was awake. As the wind blew, the castle itself was
snored. Nothing moved but a dark form on the fortress wall. It was a boy. Climbing over the wall, the
prince sneaked to the open attic window. With the guards sleeping at their posts, it was child s play.
Agile as a squirrel, he darted into the attic. Inside the room beheld the Firebird, a majestic sun eagle of
gold. Withdrawing the Firebird, the boy stared at the pure golden cage, coveting it. A name was

Gun Control And The Right State Of Mind
Gun control has been one of main debating topics for years. This particular subject is discussed
frequently between our presidential candidates. How safe do citizens feel in the community knowing
that it is not hard to obtain a concealed handgun and/or a handgun license? Citizens in some
communities have to worry more about their lives rather than bills. It should never have to be that way
for anyone. Some people are not in the right state of mind to have the privilege to carry a firearm.
Sanity level of others should not be an issue within the communities across the nation. The
government has the power to establish a stricter process when applying for a gun license. Those
wanting a license to have a handgun should go through a background check, which is already
enforced, and a psychological evaluation. In the past, the United States has had numerous cases that
involved gun violence and insanity. Setting a more rigorous foundation for issuing out firearms will
better the country tremendously insuring the safety of the citizens, requiring more than a background
check, and having a psychological as the last step to be granted the privilege to carry a firearm. The
battle between gun control laws versus the people have been around for decades. The first attempt to
prevent gun control was in 1671 in the English Parliament. This document did not apply to individuals
that hunted. Throughout time, people continued to hunt animals along with other humans. The Second
