Aldo Personal Statement
Ever since I was young, I had been continuously exposed to the business world. my parents were
in the industry already and as a result, despite the fact that I was young, I have found myself also
in the business industry. It was this very reason why at the age of 18, I have made enough money
not to ask my parents for money all the time but instead I usually use the money earned from
selling different products to people around me and my friends at school.
In College, I made a decision to take Business Administration Majoring in Marketing and

I encountered many problems at times, being a novice at the company. Yet, I managed to transform
those problems and failures into lessons and inspirations and fortunately this got me successful. I
was part of the team that marketed the best casual shoe of ALDO. This achievement motivated me
even more and to make sure I was following the right path.
However, after all these great achievements, I still feel that I have not had enough. There are
many objectives that I have set for my self, and goals to achieve, yet I feel that my little
knowledge is not sufficient to achieve my objectives and goals. so, I am writing this statement in
order to possibly gain admission into your impressive university for my Masters program. I am
planning to study Masters in Business Administration and eventually to satisfy my goal of starting
my own business and managing it successfully
I believe that your institution is the best place for me to further and improve my talent in business

Home Schooling Vs. Home School
An ever growing and popular way of educating young minds is home education or home
schooling. An estimated 2.3 million students are home schooled in the United States, which is an
increased amount from 2010 when the home school estimate number was 2 million(Ray) It s an
interesting and effective choice that s been popularized for a reason. Home schooling positively
affects a child s development by allowing them the chance to discover themselves instead of
falling into the conformity that is instilled in schools. In the process, statistically, they receive a
better education with higher test scores than students in the public school system. Reasons for
home schooling Home school is quickly becoming mainstream in the United states as a popular
alternative way of education for a number of personal reasons. The reasons range from parent to
parent or guardian to guardian. The number one most used reason parents or guardians home
school children is that they believe they can give their children a better education (ABC). Children
all around the U.S. are in session for a minimum of 6.5 hours every school day. With an average of
24 students per classroom in an average primary school (Rampell), and only one teacher per
classroom; not enough individualized and uninterrupted attention is being given to each student.
Home schooling provides personalized teaching from a point of view that is able to customize a
unique lesson plan for one student. The teacher has the opportunity

The Age Of Genetic Engineering And Discovery
Every mother wants to feed her children the best food possible. Every father wants to see his kids
grow up strong. Chefs want their food to have the most memorable, unique, and pleasing taste.
Food companies want their products to have the highest satisfaction rate and longest shelf life
possible. It seems that, as a society, we should be striving to attain the optimal status of food
production and preparation we have done so for years, through technological advances in
refrigeration, storage, and processing. Now, in the age of genetic engineeringand discovery, we find
ourselves able to genetically modify not only simple strands of DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid), but
enough genetic material to alter the very food we consume. An opportunity... Show more content on

Although they are currently able to work on stem plants only for the most part, geneticists are
continuously working to further advancements in the field of genetic modification (World Health
Organization). Genetic modification is still in its early stages, although geneticists are positive
that it will advance quickly and be of great benefit to the consumer market. In addition to helping
the economical aspects of the food consumer market by decreasing the overall cost of food
production, genetically modified species are beneficial to the environment in which they are
raised. According to the Ecological Society of America, Some GEO s could play a positive role in
sustainable agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, bioremediation, and environmental management both
in developed and developing countries (Snow et al.). Studies are underway to develop plants that
create less nutrient depletion in the soil, such as is found the in the large scale growth of many
crops like corn. This would decrease the amount of arid land worldwide. Furthermore, GMO s
present a chance to alleviate some of the damage already caused. Research is underway to create
plants that can grow in these damaged lands and provide nutrients and life to the seemingly
deadened soil. Finally, among the benefits of genetically modified organisms is the potential of
naturally grown vaccinations. With the ability to splice DNA comes the power to implant

Jean Bourdieu Cultural Capital Analysis
riguez Extra Credit One of the most illustrating concepts for me was to know about Bourdieu s
cultural capital. In forms of capital, Jean Bourdieu defines cultural capital as habits, manners,
knowledge and style of presentations that define a person s body and mind. Thus, Bourdieu
describes cultural capital as literally the unconscious part of you that guides your actions and
behaviors in the world. However, Bourdieu believed that gaining cultural capital, especially, the
predominating cultural capital was not easy. In other words, it takes both time and economic
capital to acquire cultural capital. For that reason, Bourdieu saw cultural capital as paradoxically a
symbol of both natural gift and hard work because of the amount of time and effort... Show more

For instance, I believe that anyone can achieve success as long as their put they their mind on it.
At the same time, I also believe that school was the middle ground, where all children regardless
of their economic position can learn the same cultural capital as privileged students. However,
after learning about cultural capital and the variations that exist within families, I quickly realize
how lacking the right cultural capital can negatively impact a child, not only in their educational
setting, but also on their life chances. Thus, this affected me personally because I also come from
a low income class family. Consequently, like many working families, I lacked the right cultural
capital that could have help me achieve social and cultural mobility at my school. Therefore, when
I arrive to Cal, I experienced many academic and social issues that many of the privileged students
did not. Yet, without having a structural discourse explaining me the importance of cultural capital,
I did not only felt abandoned but also incompetent about my own skills and integrity as a student.
Thus, learning about cultural capital widened my understanding because I realize now how
difficult it is for someone, who lacks the privileged cultural capital, to succeed in their life,
especially when their institutions also value the dominating privilege cultural capital. Finally,
learning about cultural capital has also made me more aware, not only of the differences that exist
within working and middle class families, but also of the social inequalities that roots from everyday

Phantom Of The Opera Essay
The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher is the 2004 adaptation of Andrew Lloyd
Webber s 1986 musical of the same name. The Phantom of the Opera stars Gerard Butler as the
Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine DaaГ©, and Patrick Wilson as Raoul, the Vicomte de
Chagny, who are embroiled in a love triangle. The film was met with generally mixed and negative
reviews: Schumacher s use of mise en scГЁne, cinematography and editing, as well as symbolism
contributes to the production of The Phantom of the Opera. The Phantom of the Opera centers on
the Paris Opera House which has over time become the Phantom s domain. Upon the news that the
opera house has been bought and is under new ownership, the Phantom demands that the new

He then sequesters her and she willingly follows him into his underworld lair. Christine appears
mesmerized and intrigued by the Phantom and does nothing to escape, but rather sees him as her
angel of music. Trouble begins when the opera company refuses to give in to the Phantom s
demands and Raoul and Christine fall in love. The Phantom s jealous rage endangers the opera
company, as well as the lives of Raoul and Christine. His final demand is finally met when the
opera company agrees to put on the opera, Don Juan , which he was written specifically for
Christine. During Don Juan s performance, the Phantom infiltrates the production and kidnaps
Christine one last time. Raoul risks his life chasing after the Phantom and Christine. In the final
showdown between Raoul and the Phantom, Raoul is overtaken by the Phantom and Christine
must choose which man she wants to be with. In the end, the Phantom lets Christine and Raoul go.
Though it is not shown that they lead a happy life together, it is implied that they got married and
had children as the final scene depicts Raoul visiting his wife, Christine s, grave (Schumacher).
Symbolism plays a major role in The Phantom of the Opera. Christine is represented as being young
and innocent. She is often depicted wearing white. Unlike her predecessor, Carlotta, Christine does
not appear to be interested in material possessions. Much like the Phantom, Christine is an orphan

High Powered Offenses In The NFL
With the exception of the Steelers who had to deal with the Patriots for a career playoff fourth
time, not a one of us thought these high powered offenses would be stopped. To many of us,
these teams represented in the words of Mike and Mike stone cold lead pipe locks and surefire
winners for that upcoming Super Bowl season. I mean how many number one defenses have
ever shut down number one offenses? The New York Giants defense was ranked seventh in
2007 when they entered the playoffs. The number one ranked Steelers defense couldn t even
handled the Patriots that year. But as it stands, great defenses seem to have a way of cutting
great offenses down to size. The 85 Bears completely demolished the Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
The 01 Patriots stymied the Greatest Show on Turf St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The
07 Giants stomped out and over the undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The 14 Seahawks
overloaded Peyton Manning s Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. The 16 Broncos derailed the freight
train looking Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ve offended people and we have been offended by people. At some point those offenses may
cause us to become defensive. In fact, I think we have deepened the American depth chart and
fielded a nation of defensive poses. Gathering from what we ve seen on the football field, we
know that a great defense tends to snuff out a great offense. As a result, I believe our culture has
become grounded by defensiveness and knocked out of rhythm. The only side working with any
rhythm is the defensive stances we ve taken on issues that others oppose. Defensive coordinators
could probably come up with a few new schemes of their own if they could figure out how to
translate what s happening in today s society in the film room. I know my cynicism is starting to
show by now. The point being, our defensiveness has either shifted us all the way to the far right or

What Is The Definition Of Political Parties
We can define political parties as a confederation of politically active citizens who come together
for the purposes of pushing forward a political agenda. Different parties have different goals. Most
of the parties are created to correct social problems. Some of them form around issues, such as
taxation or civil rights. By comparison with the Europe, democratic countries such Sweden or
Russia which have many different active political parties, the United Stateshas two major parties the
Republican Party and Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party in the United States was established in 1792. This is oldest party in the
world. Before the First World War Democrats were not positively minded towards government.

The Stories Of Sherwood Anderson’S Winesburg, Ohio Are
The stories of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio are an intersecting group of tales that
emphasize the grotesque over a wide spectrum. While some of Anderson s stories focus upon the
physical grotesque, other characterizations demonstrate the ability of the human psyche to
exemplify the grotesque. Such is the case with Anderson s short storyHands. Hands is a story of
society s tendency to marginalize those who can be categorized as grotesque, or those who simply
refuse categorization entirely. Anderson s tale of social isolation utilizes the image of the hands to
symbolize the emotional expression of Wing Biddlebaum in order to drive an implicit theme that
emotional internalization and social isolation is a veritable prison.

Nevertheless, Wing is still plagued by doubts about his hands and is striving to conceal them
even in the fields. Anderson writes, The hands alarmed their owner. He wanted to keep them
hidden away and looked with amazement at the quiet inexpressive hands of other men who
worked beside him in the fields, or passed, driving sleepy teams on country roads (Anderson 4).
Another recurring image is Wing s tendency to hide his hands in his pockets. This image occurs
several times over the duration of Anderson s story. In another instance Anderson writes, Wing
Biddlebaum talked much with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever
striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the
piston rods of his machinery of expression (Anderson 3). This image is repeated again when Wing
is conversing with George. Wing is horrified by the sight of his own hands and With a convulsive
movement of his body, Wing Biddlebaum sprang to his feet and thrust his hands deep into his
trousers pockets (Anderson 5).
This imagery involving hands being thrust into pockets is intended by Anderson to be a metaphor
for prison. Wing s hands are repeatedly described in terms of birds. Biddlebaum s own name
reflects this very idea. According to Anderson, The story of Wing Biddlebaum is a story of hands.
Their restless activity, like unto the beating of the wings of an imprisoned bird, had given him his

Wr Grace Case Summary
W.R. Grace amp; Co. Audit
W.R. Grace amp; Co. (The Company) is a company that makes some of the materials that are used
in the production of products ranging from medicine to gasoline. The Company was audited by an
accounting firm (The Firm) that is recognized as one of the Big Four Accounting firms in the
world. The Firm found that the company was participating in a practice known as profit
management .
Profit management occurs when a company defers some of its revenues from the current period,
and keeps it in a separate account to use in the future to inflate earnings. Profit management
occurred at The Company because executives were afraid that the increase in earnings would not
last, and that if earnings fluctuated greatly over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Firm did not comply with this standard since, given the opportunity, another firm may have
been more persistent about rectifying the problem before signing the financial statements.
Managing the internal audit activity is the responsibility of the Chief Audit Executive (CAE). Mr.
Eatough was the CAE in this case, therefore it was his responsibility to oversee the quality of The
Firm s work and to report the outcomes to the board. Mr. Eatough did not effectively manage the
internal audit activity since the outcome of The Firm s work did not conform with the IIA s Code
of Ethics or the Standards. The Company should initially have appointed a board to which Mr.
Eatough could have written his report. He would have been able to draw the board s attention to the
fact that The Company executives were partaking in an unethical activity.
Mr. Eatough s report referred to the profit managing activity as a deliberate deferral of reported
income when he should have called it fraud. Standard 2410 requires that results are communicated
in such a way as to minimize the risk of misinterpretation. Since Mr. Eatough did not call the profit
management fraud, he left the report open to misinterpretation.
Ultimately, Mr. Eatough should write a report that clearly outlines what is happening at The
Company. The report should be given to the board of directors who

Questions such as You speak English well. Where did you learn it? (DiversityInc) and Where are
you from? No, where are you really from? (DiversityInc) are common questions that fuel stereotypes
even though it might come out as a harmless question. Anand, a responder to the English question

that a person can t communicate. (DiversityInc).
Since Asia is a vast and thriving country, there are plenty of different languages Korean, Japanese,
Chinese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese are just some common languages that are in United States.
However, language barriers present a problem to Asian Americans especially in the older
generations. One of the contributing factor to the differences between AAPI (Asian Americans and
Pacific Islanders) group is English proficiency... (Migrante21). The reason why English proficiency
is a factor in Asian Americans is because some Asian Americanhouseholds only have one
language spoken at home. By retaining their languages at home, the elderly has very little chances
to speak English unless they are speaking to their grandchildren or their children. This type of
language isolation is very prevalent in my own household where my mom and dad sometimes have
a tough time speaking in English and would often stumble on their own words. This is because in

Tone Of One Perfect Rose
At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but
further analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they
lead one to believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden
change in tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the
speaker s tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the roseis anything but
perfect. In a way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot
going for her she just wasn t satisfied. Because of the shift in tone, the poems entire meaning goes
from sweet to a bitter recount. The first opening line of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect
limousine do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this,
as the reader, one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written
in 1937 when the Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties,
all she really wanted was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is
repeated throughout stanza 1 and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the
mocking repetition of one perfect indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last
stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one
perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly changes when she states, do you suppose? . The
question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on more of a conversational tone. The poem
suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for.
They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line 11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my
luck to get one perfect rose. The fact that she states ah no signifies disappointment, but it also
becomes more conversational instead of formal. In line 11 the word, just my luck actually means
that something unfortunate

Analysis of Architecture in Photography Essay
Analysis of Architecture in Photography
I have decided to look at architecture for my next genre in photography. I have chosen architecture
as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes
different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were
specialists in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living
could be made from the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings,
often working from the window of a convenient room rather than at street level.
Many of the images from this era can truly be described as monumental, giving the subjects ... Show

Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue.
The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. I think the way
the sea blue colour merges into the deep blue/black colour of the background works really well.
The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have
energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an
establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is
because it is a calm, quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the
beautiful view. I think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to
the fact that the composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The
photo has strong verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space.
The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural
lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been
essential.
The photo also has some negative points to it. The angle at which the photograph is taken from
makes the picture looks really flat and plain, For instance if

Nuclear Weapons And Atomic Weapons Essay
Nuclear weapons are a threatening war tactic that has become more frequent in the new media,
especially in the past few weeks after Hillary Clinton released an updated version of the Daisy ad
inferring that if elected, Donald Trump will misuse the nuclear weapons of the United States.
Nuclear power is a big responsibility and since the start of its use, scientists and politicians have
tried to separate weapons and nuclear power. However, one must first understand what a nuclear
weapontruly is to understand how they can be a threat. Nuclear weapons are devices that are
designed to release energy in an explosive manner as a result of nuclear fission, nuclear fusion or a
combination of the two processes (Norris).
There are various kinds of nuclear weapons, the most common being fission, and fusion
weapons. Fission weapons are often called atomic bombs. Fission (atomic) bombs can be simple
to build although obtaining the materials for them can be tough. The material needs to have a
high probability of undergoing neutron induced fission, produce a fair number of neutrons with
each reaction, have a reasonably long half life, and have fissile material that is accessible (easy to
dig up or easily made in a nuclear reactor) (Bryan 83). The National Academy of Sciences says, the
critical and indispensable ingredient of a nuclear explosive device is either highly enriched uranium
or separated plutonium 239. Highly enriched uranium is produced by separating the fissionable

Regulatory Changes in Direct-To-Consumer Marketing of...
Direct to consumer (DTC) marketing of pharmaceuticals has grown increasingly in the past decade.
The American public views prescription drug advertising for a wide range of medical conditions,
including high cholesterol, depression, allergies, and erectile dysfunction. The Federal Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the content of these advertisements. Critics also have taken
the position that the advertisements garner unearned trust from the public, are misleading, and
promote unnecessary use of prescription drugs for common problems associated with aging.
Proponents counter that DTC ads help eliminate stigmas associated with certain medical conditions,

The third and most common type is the product claim ad, which mentions the product and its
indication and includes efficacy or safety claims. (Ventola, Toxic par 3). These types of ads
proved to be confusing and misleading for consumers. As Greene describes in Hidden in Plain
Sight , Over the course of the 1990s, resulting television and radio advertisements took on a surreal,
disconnected quality, exemplified by the division of marketing for Schering Plough s nonsedating
antihistamine Claritin (loratidine): one set of advertisements praised promising new developments
in antiallergy remedies but did not mention Claritin, while others featured the pill and its logo and
promised blue skies without explaining what, in therapeutic terms, that might mean. The FDA
reacted to concerns over confusing DTC prescription drug ads by issuing final guidance in 1999,
which relaxed previous regulations and redefined adequate provision of risks and benefits to
include reference to a toll free number or web site. (Greene, Hidden, par 34). The result of the
relaxed regulations was an explosion of DTC pharmaceutical advertising in broadcast media. DTC
rulings would be relaxed yet again in 2004, which saw the removal of the requirement to include
complete prescribing information, instead requiring only a simplified brief summary. Ventola says
this change allowed pharmaceutical companies to present

Critique of a Website Essay
Critique of a Website
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to
make nitroglycerin from house hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a
manner that whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from
that. In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully
considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this
talk of togetherness is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color
coordination, if color is used, text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just
plain and simple design of the page. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m not saying make up is evil, but we all know what s in somewhat good taste, and what isn t.
But, hey!, I could be wrong: There could actually be a great person hiding under that crusty

designing a web page or any page for that matter. I m not trying to rag on Raygun or anything,
because I like A LOT of the stuff that they do, but one must not get carried away with it and
ignore what one is supposed to be doing in the first place. For this reason I have chosen to pick
on the Alternative X web site (http://www.altx.com/), for this paper. Well, not really pick on
them, but you know what I mean. So in our quest to discover the ideal web page we must look at
the following things: 1) Does it make sense? Is its layout so erratic in such a way as to render
the viewer blind because of the designers lack of vision and utter stupidity? 2) Organization.
How and why were things placed in the places they were placed, needs to be known, or at least
made seemingly apparant. 3) Since this is a web site we are critiquing, and like a Choose Your
Own Adventure Book one can skip to another section with almost no fear of being inquisitioned,
does its links lead to somewhere meaningful?
The first thing one sees when first viewing this page is a yellow screen with a single X in the
center with alt typed across it. Nice. Let me go off on a tangent here: I

Bull Tattoo Culture
Bull tattoos are symbolic of masculinity as far as the Samoans are concerned. Samoa s rich history
and cultural diversity has ensured that the art of tattooing, first introduced more than two thousand

Jack the Egomaniac in William Golding s Lord of the Flies
Having an individual take control over a group is inevitable. Adolf Hitler took over Germany; at
first he was appointed as chancellor but the Germans let him get away with taking over as
dictator (Truemen , 2013). It was out of fear that the Germans let him be in power. In Lord of the
Flies, William Golding utilizes Jack as the most important character in the novel because of how
his psychological personality affects the plot. Jack, much like Hitler, gains control by instilling
fear into the others and takes over as leader. Throughout the whole book Golding continues to use
Jack to twist the story. He stands in the way of the other boys success in getting off of the island.

Jack tries hard to turn everyone against Ralph by saying Hands up [...] whoever wants Ralph not
to be chief? (118). Jack pushes boundaries throughout the whole book because he was not elected
to be chief. He continuously tries to cast the group away from Ralph and begins to embrace
savagery and violence. Once again Jack displays himself as the id when he is trying to lure the
others away from Ralph so he can egotistically become in control of the group to get what he
wants. Jack picks on Piggy throughout the whole novel making Piggy seem inferior to
everyone; when Jack compares Ralph to Piggy, he is demoralizing him in front of the group and
creating the illusion that he is weak. [Ralph is] like Piggy. He says things like Piggy. He isn t a
proper chief. (50). From the time Jack met Piggy; he made him look foolish to the group, even
the littleuns disrespected him. Now that Jack compares Ralph to Piggy, he convinces the others
that he is better fit as a leader than Ralph. Jack uses his hunting skills as a bribe to wean the
others away from Ralph to his own tribe. I gave you food [...] and my hunters will protect you
from the beast. Who will join my tribe? (139). He tricks the other boys into thinking that he is
going to be a better chief but they only go to his tribe because they are mortified of the beast. Jack
uses their fear of the beast to control them. He makes his tribe sound so wonderful. Food and

Glass Cockpit Case Study
A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH A WARNING SYSTEM After graduating from the University
of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering with a degree in computer engineering, I was
offered a job at Company X, a recreational aircraft manufacture. Several years later, I was made
the head of a team tasked with designing the code for the glass cockpit of a new airplane that
Company X plans to produce. The glass cockpit is a screen that displays data such as airspeed,
altitude, and vertical airspeed. This technology replaces the analog gauges that have been used
in almost every airplane for the past century. The advantage of the glass cockpit is that it takes
all the raw data that would have otherwise been displayed by the gauges, processes it, and then
displays in an easy understand picture of aircrafts current situation and position. This allows the
pilot to spend less time referring to the numerous gauges around the cockpit, and more time
focusing on situational awareness [1]. With the deadline for completion only one week away,
the code for the glass cockpit is going through its final tests. During the test of the carburetor ice
warning system, it was found that under certain conditions, the warning light may not be
displayed when ice is forming inside of the carburetor. If no warning light is displayed, the pilot
may not know to take corrective action if he has also missed the other indications of ice
forming, such as a drop in the engines rotations per minute (RPM). If no corrective action is
taken, then the carburetor could become completely blocked off with ice thus causing the
engine to fail [2]. As a licensed private pilot, I know that a midflight engine failure can be lethal
to the pilot, the passengers, and anyone on the ground who happens to be in the way. I report the
problem to my supervisor and tell him that the team will need at least two more weeks to go
through all the code, find the problem, and fix it. His response is very troubling. He tells me that
because the test results show that the warning system only has the potential to fail under a very
specific set of conditions, it is alright for me to just leave that out of my report. I argue that we
need to fix this problem because it could

Technology in Computer Forensics
Throughout the length of this paper, I am going to be discussing the topic of computer forensics.
Computer forensics involves carefully collecting and examining electronic evidence that not only
evaluates the damage to a computer as a result of an electronic assault, but also to recuperate lost
information from a system to prosecute a criminal in a court of law. Since security is such an
important factor in technology, it is crucial for any type of computerprofessionals to understand the
aspects of computer forensics. Seeing that technology is such a major part of everyone s lives,
computer forensics can play an significant role in any investigation now a days. People uses
electrical devices to communicate, record information, This paper looks to provide simple
information with respect to the core technologies used in computer forensics. Subjects covered
include the recovery of deleted data, the value of memory forensics, techniques for recovering and
analyzing data from volatile memory, and intrusions of attackers and tracking them. Computer
forensics is the investigation of computer devices to gather and preserve certain information that
can be utilized in a court of law for prosecution. The goal of computer forensics is to bring out a
structured investigation while documenting evidence to find out precisely what happened on a
computing device and who was accountable for it. Computer forensic investigators take three steps
when investigating; acquiring

Abuse Of Prescription Drug Abuse
When people hear of prescription drug abuse they think of people that do not have a prescription
using the drug for other reasons but this is not always the case. People that get a prescription,
may abuse it by misuse of selling them, or by over use. Many different types of prescription drugs
are very addictive and used out of control. They can have some serious effects on a person.
Why does so many people abuse prescription drugs? Some will say it is safer than street drugs
since it is FDA approved. Is it because prescription drugs are easier to get a hold of and
sometimes cheaper? Some believe it is safe for them to consume because it was given to them by
a Physician. That is not the case many Doctors have given out medication because the patient will
come in knowing what symptoms to say to get what they need. In today s time, it is so easy to run
to the doctor and get some sort of prescription drug. It does not take much to get one, most doctors
today do not even try to find the main cause to the problem they just write a prescription and
send a person on their way. This is a one major problem that leads to abuse of prescription drugs.
Why would someone want to take something if it is not going to help them with the main
problem? So the person is not getting help on what could be causing their problem, but given
something to ease the problem. As soon as the medication wears off, the problem is back. Of
course sometimes it may help in fixing the problem but in most cases

Common Stereotypes In Modern Family

Triple Alliance And Triple Entente During World War I
In the beginning of the 20th century, many changes where to take place that would ultimately
determine the alliances commonly known as the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente during World
War I. In 1904, the Russo Japanese War began. This war ended with a defeat for Russia, which
was humiliating, but did encourage the Russian Empire to focus on the Balkans, an area that would
play more dominate roles in World War I( 10 Events that Led to War One 1). Their newfound
interest in this area forced them to reassert themselves later, during the Bosnia Annexation Crisis

Different Styles And Approaches Supervisors May Demonstrate
ABOVE THE FIRST LINE SUPERVISOR LEVEL
There are many different styles and approaches supervisors may demonstrate. Each style has unique
qualities and characteristics that set them apart from the others. When a supervisor begins moving
up through the ranks they can change, sometimes for the better and sometimes not. I have worked
for some excellent supervisors and some that are not so excellent. Whether a supervisor practices
the contingency theory or they are behavior based in their actions, a great supervisor in law
enforcement comes down to two things, having your subordinates back and being trustworthy.
Lieutenant Mannion
During my career with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, I had the honor of being assigned twice to
the Executive Protection Unit (EPU), Governor s Residence Detail for the Ohio State Highway
Patrol. During my second assignment at the Governor s Residence there was an election and a
change in Governor s. Governor Ted Strickland took officer and with the change came a new
supervisor. Lieutenant Joe Mannion had been assigned to protect Governor Strickland throughout
the campaign and after Strickland won the election made the move to Columbus. I had known
Mannion for many years prior to working for him and had always liked him, but after he was
promoted to Lieutenant he changed.
Fred Fiedler s Contingency Model is a prime example of why Lieutenant Mannion was such an
unsuccessful leader. The level of trust and likeability was reduced to nothing.

started off with trivial car issues. My car broke down and I have been renting a car since last
Saturday. Sunday the Men s Choir at the Church celebrated their 18th Anniversary. I was asked

her glasses and how unique they were and she responded, I know, if anyone else wore these they
would look stupid. They only look good on me. I smiled trying to contain my laughter. She then
went on to talk and throughout the course of the conversation, I heard many words of anger,
frustration, and hurt projected towards the members of the church. I looked at this as the perfect

In the book And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
, the main mystery elements used were:
main conflict, setting, characterization, and the author s techniques of giving clues.
The main conflict in the story is person versus person, or the murders of the ten people who
were apparently murdered because they were guilty of a crime themselves. Everyone is killed in
a certain way, by the lyrics of a nursery rhyme hung in their bedrooms. (31). On the centerpiece of
the dining table there are ten indian boys, everyone thought it was very clever since the name of
the island they were staying on was Indian Island. That was until they realized each indian boy
represented one of them and as one person died one indian boy was taken off the centerpiece. (74)

The Symbolism Of Evil In Dracula By Bram Stoker
It was Stoker, who with the stroke of his pen, forever linked the real clad with traditional beliefs in
malefic spirits that return from the dead to plague the living. Stoker welded these elements into the

A Study On The Healthcare Field
From an early age, I gained much knowledge about the healthcare field. My younger brother was
diagnosed with Autism, Psychosis, and Asperger. My mother was diagnosed with depression,
anxiety disorder, diabetes and hyper blood tension. Due to my mom not being educated, she
cannot read or write in Spanish or English. I was forced to learn everything in the healthcare field.
I quickly became intrigued of each specialized field when I took my family to their doctors
appointments. A few qualities I looked for when searching for new physicianwas affordability,
patient satisfaction, and a well organized practice. Not everyone has affordable insurance, or
receives the best quality of care due to poor organized facilities. My true passion towards the
healthcare field arose when I started on my career in the financial department. I knew that I wanted

my current role as a financial counselor, I am exposed to several diverse backgrounds, insurances,

Analysis Of Better Than Hum Our Jobs By Kevin Kelly
Christian Lous Lange once said, Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Many
would agree, as modern day scientists threaten that robots are taking over our jobs more and more
everyday. While many are discomforted by this idea, author Kevin Kelly is intrigued with this idea
in his article, Better Than Human: Why Robots WillвЋјAnd MustвЋјTake Our Jobs, saying that
increasing technology in the workplace will benefit our society by increasing productivity. In his
article, Kelly uses specific examples and tones in an attempt to relate to his audience, but fails to
present an argument that forces others to trust in the takeover of technology. Kelly uses an
academic, humorous tone in an attempt to appeal to his audience, but instead, sends a sarcastic
message to the readers. For example, Kelly wrote, A computerized brain known as the autopilot

Kelly claims that no matter what your current job or your salary, you will progress through these
Seven Stages of Robot Replacement... (311), beginning with denial that a robot could do our
jobs, then slowly accepting that these machines are capable of our everyday tasks, and more.
Kelly thinks we will believe that we are needed when the machine breaks down, but the
technology is apparently flawless. After figuring out that this technology can do our old jobs
better than we can, we realize that we did not like our job and we are much happier now that we
have moved on from our old boring job. What Kelly fails to realize is that several people do not
detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every job that humans can do. Some jobs, including social
work and criminal investigation, cannot solely be done by machines. It is seemingly impossible.
Therefore, Kelly s argument is invalid and cannot be used when arguing whether or not technology

Battle Of New France Essay
During the 17th century, the French and Native allies inflicted monumental defeats against
England. At the same time, New France was rapidly expanded into areas of land stretching down
South towards Louisiana. As Settlements began to prosper, Great Britain viewed this growth as a
threat to their position in North American trade, which was the linchpin to war with New France.
Through years of industrious and unwearying battle, The French fought unwaveringly to defend
their colony. Unfortunately, they fell short and lost every installment, one by one. This can be

Therefore, they sent very little troops to combat the Americans and defend the New France
colony. France also deemed it vital to protect their colonies in the West Indies because they
thought that sugar cane was more of a lucrative business than the fur trade in New France. The
war between colonies were heavily dependent upon supplies and reinforcements sent by the
mother countries. This was clearly evident because Britain was dedicated to a full forced
takeover versus Britain that sent only what they could spare. The British had a fleet of ships in
their Royal Navy that was a key cog in taking over New France. The British used these ships to
capture French ships sent from France with supplies from entering port. As a result, Louisbourg

relationship, in many cases it becomes a personal and expressive one. In today s work place, if
the conditions of employment are excellent, and the employees are treated with fairly, it is more
likely that they will be pleased, and their productivity will increase. However if the environments
in the work place are poor or not suitable, we will have the total opposite results. To avoid any
complications or misunderstandings between employers and employees, this relationship is
governed by rules and laws. The basis of these rules is the ESA (Employment... Show more content

During the application and interview stage, the management is able to ask potential employees to
provide them with information of any health problems. The management can inquire of any
reason that might prevent an employee to perform his/her duties. If the employer would like to go
into medical testing, they should wait until the decision to hire the person is made. Testing should
only be performed in direct relevance to the job performance. Hiring the employer is now ready to
offer the successful candidate a position with the organization. Both employer and employee
should set out the standards of their employment relationship. Before the new employee starts, the
employer should set the specific duties that can help to enforce variable issues in the relationship.
Before an employer hires an employee they should keep in mind the potential minefields that can
be avoided. When hiring a new employee you must make sure that the new employee does not
have an existing employment contract with his/her current employer. This will help ensure that
you will not be liable for any legal action against you for inducting breach of contract. In cases
where an inducing breach of contract occurs, the former employer will have to prove that the
current employer acted deceitfully or in bad faith. The current employee must have a valid
argument against the claim. The current employer will have a defense if they can prove that by

Joseph Haydn Farewell
It has been said that Franz Joseph Haydn is the father of the symphony and as so he is known for
his creative takes on traditional classic music which influenced composers for centuries to follow.
Haydn was not only a composer of symphonies, but wrote many pieces of sacred and secular vocal
music, chamber music, keyboard music, and operas. One of his most famous symphonies was the
SymphonyNo. 45, which was created during his operatic hiatus in EszterhГЎza and serves as a
petition or request of sorts towards the prince Nikolaus EsterhГЎzy. The piece, now commonly
referred to as Farewell , relayed the message that the court orchestra in EszterhГЎza wished to
return to their families and was ultimately successful. Farewell is not obviously... Show more

Haydn is considered as the inventor of the string quartet, as he established the forms and styles.
Haydn was among the first composers to merge fugue into the classical style of music, evolve
the rondo form to include more tonal logic, and experiment with the double variation form. Also
as a composer, Haydn is most known for his infusion of humor, such as the startling chord during
a slow movement in his Surprise symphony or his false endings in various quartets. Haydn began
his work just as the influence of the High Baroque era was fading out and a new style had yet to
develop. As the genre of Classical music spawned and matured, so did Haydn s music; his later
work is notably more complex and urbane when compared to his earlier pieces. Haydn s career
never reached the magnitude and publicity of his contemporaries (Beethoven, Mozart, Bach), but
that does not mean his music was not irrefutably technically masterful, generically appropriate and
rhetorically convincing (Webster and

Five Theories in the Bedroom of the Dead Essay
[T]he utility in diverse theories in interpretation does not imply the simultaneous truth of all the
claims in the theoretical inventory states Roland Garrett in a concluding statement discussing how
more than one theory must be used to interpret fully a single work of text (Garrett 124). James
Joyce s short story The Dead is used to portray this statement in Garrett s article Six Theories in
the Bedroom of The Dead. As noted by the title of the article, Garrett analyzes James Joyces story
using more than one literary theoryand a general reflection at the end to recap his work (Garrett
123). Garrett takes time to point out why each theory can and cannot work for The Dead using
historical and textual evidence to support his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A perfect example is Gabriel s reaction to Lily s snap in regard to her private life, he coloured, as
if he felt he had made a mistake from which he promptly kicked off his galoshes and ran away
(Joyce 298). Does this reaction prompt questioning of his past? How might the reader examine the
text to find out the answer? With further elaboration on psychoanalysis, the reader may be able to
answer such questions. The idea of delving deeper into the psychosis of Gabriel may aid the reader
by creating a richer and more fulfilling picture of his character; conversely, stressing knowledge
about the context of the period is also important. The article holds a plethora of knowledge on the
theories used to analyze The Dead ; however, the reader thinks that the author leaves out potentially
enlightening information about the importance of background information. Such information
would include international events, historic events on the continent to which the story is taking
place, and influential events in the author s life. These would help the reader to understand the
characters a little better by showing, for example, why Gabriel might be insulted at Miss Ivors
calling him a West Briton (Joyce 303). He is insulted due to the poor political connection that
Ireland and England have, meaning, that Miss Ivors, essentially, calls

The National Football League Is The Most Popular Sport
The National Football League is the most popular sport in America. The NFL is the most
lucrative sports business in the world by generating 9 billion dollars a year. For whatever reason
peoples eyes are glued to the television every Sunday, whether it be to root on their hometown
team or to follow their fantasy football team. The league has been under fire for the safety of the
players for a very long time, but more so in the last couple of years. The biggest part of the
scrutiny is that repeated head trauma can cause long term brain damage. The rules must change in
the game of football because it has become too dangerous and creates a long term threat to players.

A helmet hit from Morris Badgro in the 1930 would lay down players with 970 pounds of force
and a helmet hit from the current player Holati Ngata unleashes 1700 pounds of force.
The National Football League is constantly working on making the game safer. There needs to be
a waiver in the contract of the players that prevents them suing the league for any post career
health issues. If the players were not part of the National Football League Players Association, a
labor union for the players, the waiver would already be in place. The players union says that it
would be against the collective bargaining agreement for the NFL to come up with such waiver
(cite.) The waiver probably stems from the lawsuits against the NFL by former players. The
number of suits continues to grow with the largest one being nearly 800 million dollars. The
former players accused the league of hiding the long term effects of concussions and rushing
players back onto the field, while profiting from the games violence. There have been multiple
players who have been on the NFL s side and said that they would be willing to sign a waiver
saying that they would not sue the league if any post football health issues occurred.
There have been much needed changes on the field to change the safety of the game. The changes
have drawn a lot of criticism. A friend of mine refers to it as the No Fun League instead of the
National Football league, but this is what has to happen

Effects Of White People On Race
A Conversation With White People on Race
In a world where words and color have so much meaning and power, I ve grown confused by the
word race and the bizarre pigments it assigns. We re called the human race, yet while we run
together in the single race of life, we have split into teams: white, yellow, brown, black. My
bewilderment fails to end there. Though his cheeks are ruddy and spotted with moles, my father is
called white, and my mother, though pale as porcelain, is a yellow woman. As for me, I belong
nowhere, hopping between my mother and father s people, unwanted by either.
Viewing Stephenson and Foster s video reminded me of the tensions the topic of race has in our
society, felt even by those who benefit from this strange competition

How Does Brecht Make A Form Of Theatre
In this essay I will be discussing the theatrical style of Brecht and how he created his own form of
theatre and I will be using his play Mother Courage and Her Children to back up the innovation and
techniques that Brecht used during his career.
Mother Courage and Her Children is set in the 30 year s war and follows Mother Courage
making a living by selling supplies from her wagon to armies that they encounter. Trying to make
a living for herself and her family. The focus is on the conflict that occurs between war
profiteering and maintaining a family. Her children end up dying due to the struggle of trying to
live like a family and trying to survive the war. Brecht wanted to show audiences that if families are
going to survive they need to understand that capitalism needs to go. (Theatre Histories:2010)
Although Brecht was a Marxist he did take interest into a form of theatre that differed from socialist
realism, that was brought upon by Stalin s culture. When Brecht had written Mother Courage and
Her Children he took it with him to Finland after he was forced to leave Germany after Hitler came
into power due to him not being sure how the Soviet and German communists would treat him.

A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen We have all felt the need to be alone or to venture to places that
our minds have only imagined. However, we as individuals have always found ourselves

The lingering feeling of leaving something behind or of promises that have been unfulfilled is a

her controlling husband s back was a way for her to satisfy her sense of needing to be an
independent woman. Upon the arrival of her old friend Kristine Linde, Nora took it upon herself
to find her friend a job since she had gone through a lot in her life. She asked her husband
Torvald, who also happened to be the new manager at the bank if Kristine could have a job and
he responded with an afirmative response. Mrs. Helmer had also stated that she had single

days women were unable to get a loan without their husband s consent or another male s
signature, so Nora took it upon herself to forge her father s signature in order to secure the welfare
of Torvald. She saw it as her obligation as a loving wife to break the law so she would be able to
save a life, especially when it was the life of her husband. Others though saw it as a criminal

Athena Goddess Of War
Athena, or Athene, is the Goddess of Wisdom and War ( Athena ). Known for her grace and mercy,
all the other gods highly respected her (Pontikis). Although she is the goddess of war, her true
personality might be a surprise.
Athena s Roman name is Minerva, and the two are very similar (L. Roman and M. Roman 90).
Athena actually does not like fighting at all, but instead enjoys the strategy involved in battle
(Pontikis). This goddess is not only in charge of war, but rules over outdoor activities and chores
done inside the house like weaving, spinning, and cooking (Pontikis). She rules over the city of
Athens, which was rewarded to her because she helped the people by planting the olive tree (L.
Roman and M. Roman 91). Also, her most important temple is called the Parthenon ( Athena ).
Athena can always be found with her helmet and spear, making her one of the easiest goddesses
to identify (Pontikis). Athena is also easy to spot because of her special shield. On her shield is
Medusa s head, which Perseus had given to her (L. Roman and M. Roman 91). She hardly uses her
spear however, because she likes to handle things in a peaceful manner (Pontikis). Surprisingly,
Athena has a manly figure with broad shoulders (Pontikis). Her ... Show more content on

What Does The Spider Symbolize
The poem I have decided to read and analyze is The spider and the Fly by Mary Howitt. The
poem tells a story of a cunning spider that ties to deceive a silly fly through flattery. Howitt uses
many literary devices such as rhyme similes, repetition, alliteration, personification and,
Assonance to tell the story of the spider and the fly. The first four stanzas follow the same rhyme
scheme, i.e. AABBCC. The fourth and fifth stanza follows AABBCCDD. The last stanza has a

enticing a little fly with his tricky words to fall into his trap. Similar how human beings are often
influenced by the words of flattery of others. The spider tries deceiving the fly by luring her into

When the spider fails at tempting the fly with those, the spider then uses his strongest weapon,
fake flattery. This is how he eventually traps the fly at the end. Although the fly repeatedly
states that he does not intend to enter because he has heard tales of victims who were subjected
to his evilness and cruelty. The spider continues to give false praises, he is confident he will
sway her and gives her compliments on her appearance. He offers her a chance to see her own
beauty by giving her a looking glass so that she can appreciate her own beauty. He starts to

Body Modification And Human Physical Appearance

America, it is considered taboo and will not earn respect or a job. In rural America, you are

These people could show their similarity through the use of similar scarification patterns, similar
ear stretching methods, and similar neck stretching technics. This modification also showcases
the expressions of the wearer. The wearer could have scars to show age and importance or scars
to show marital status and wealth. Tribal people, such as PaDaung women of Thailand, use
different forms of modification to flaunt their wealth and marital status in the act of stretching
their neck with brass rings. The origins of this tradition is said to be due to rendering the women
incapable of farming or heavy labor (Jefkin Elnekave) which in turn protects the women from
being kidnapped by slave traders which is very common in this part of Asia. So, in essence this
form of modification actually protects these women. This implies that modification as a whole is
used in most cultures as a form of invisibility. People in these cultures ultimately, assume the
characteristics associated the modification and strive to live up to the ideals the modification stands
for.
Furthermore, the Bume of Ethiopia use body scarification as a form of personal achievement
earned after a hunt or kill. These scares are given in a complex ritual. This modification is a rite of
passage into adulthood for many African tribes. The scarring emulates the manliness of the wearer.
The scars show off their achievements and are very prestigious and aid these men in finding a

  • 3. Home Schooling Vs. Home School An ever growing and popular way of educating young minds is home education or home schooling. An estimated 2.3 million students are home schooled in the United States, which is an increased amount from 2010 when the home school estimate number was 2 million(Ray) It s an interesting and effective choice that s been popularized for a reason. Home schooling positively affects a child s development by allowing them the chance to discover themselves instead of falling into the conformity that is instilled in schools. In the process, statistically, they receive a better education with higher test scores than students in the public school system. Reasons for home schooling Home school is quickly becoming mainstream in the United states as a popular alternative way of education for a number of personal reasons. The reasons range from parent to parent or guardian to guardian. The number one most used reason parents or guardians home school children is that they believe they can give their children a better education (ABC). Children all around the U.S. are in session for a minimum of 6.5 hours every school day. With an average of 24 students per classroom in an average primary school (Rampell), and only one teacher per classroom; not enough individualized and uninterrupted attention is being given to each student. Home schooling provides personalized teaching from a point of view that is able to customize a unique lesson plan for one student. The teacher has the opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chefs want their food to have the most memorable, unique, and pleasing taste. Food companies want their products to have the highest satisfaction rate and longest shelf life possible. It seems that, as a society, we should be striving to attain the optimal status of food production and preparation we have done so for years, through technological advances in refrigeration, storage, and processing. Although they are currently able to work on stem plants only for the most part, geneticists are continuously working to further advancements in the field of genetic modification (World Health Organization). Genetic modification is still in its early stages, although geneticists are positive that it will advance quickly and be of great benefit to the consumer market. In addition to helping the economical aspects of the food consumer market by decreasing the overall cost of food production, genetically modified species are beneficial to the environment in which they are raised. According to the Ecological Society of America, Some GEO s could play a positive role in sustainable agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, bioremediation, and environmental management both in developed and developing countries (Snow et al.). Studies are underway to develop plants that create less nutrient depletion in the soil, such as is found the in the large scale growth of many crops like corn. This would decrease the amount of arid land worldwide. Furthermore, GMO s present a chance to alleviate some of the damage already caused. Research is underway to create plants that can grow in these damaged lands and provide nutrients and life to the seemingly deadened soil. Finally, among the benefits of genetically modified organisms is the potential of naturally grown vaccinations. With the ability to splice DNA comes the power to implant ... • 5. Jean Bourdieu Cultural Capital Analysis riguez Extra Credit One of the most illustrating concepts for me was to know about Bourdieu s cultural capital. In forms of capital, Jean Bourdieu defines cultural capital as habits, manners, knowledge and style of presentations that define a person s body and mind. Thus, Bourdieu describes cultural capital as literally the unconscious part of you that guides your actions and behaviors in the world. However, Bourdieu believed that gaining cultural capital, especially, the predominating cultural capital was not easy. In other words, it takes both time and economic capital to acquire cultural capital. For that reason, Bourdieu saw cultural capital as paradoxically a symbol of both natural gift and hard work because of the amount of time and effort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, I believe that anyone can achieve success as long as their put they their mind on it. At the same time, I also believe that school was the middle ground, where all children regardless of their economic position can learn the same cultural capital as privileged students. However, after learning about cultural capital and the variations that exist within families, I quickly realize how lacking the right cultural capital can negatively impact a child, not only in their educational setting, but also on their life chances. Thus, this affected me personally because I also come from a low income class family. Consequently, like many working families, I lacked the right cultural capital that could have help me achieve social and cultural mobility at my school. Therefore, when I arrive to Cal, I experienced many academic and social issues that many of the privileged students did not. Yet, without having a structural discourse explaining me the importance of cultural capital, I did not only felt abandoned but also incompetent about my own skills and integrity as a student. Thus, learning about cultural capital widened my understanding because I realize now how difficult it is for someone, who lacks the privileged cultural capital, to succeed in their life, especially when their institutions also value the dominating privilege cultural capital. Finally, learning about cultural capital has also made me more aware, not only of the differences that exist within working and middle class families, but also of the social inequalities that roots from everyday ... • 8. Phantom Of The Opera Essay The Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher is the 2004 adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber s 1986 musical of the same name. The Phantom of the Opera stars Gerard Butler as the Phantom, Emmy Rossum as Christine DaaГ©, and Patrick Wilson as Raoul, the Vicomte de Chagny, who are embroiled in a love triangle. The film was met with generally mixed and negative reviews: Schumacher s use of mise en scГЁne, cinematography and editing, as well as symbolism contributes to the production of The Phantom of the Opera. He then sequesters her and she willingly follows him into his underworld lair. Christine appears mesmerized and intrigued by the Phantom and does nothing to escape, but rather sees him as her angel of music. Trouble begins when the opera company refuses to give in to the Phantom s demands and Raoul and Christine fall in love. The Phantom s jealous rage endangers the opera company, as well as the lives of Raoul and Christine. His final demand is finally met when the opera company agrees to put on the opera, Don Juan , which he was written specifically for Christine. During Don Juan s performance, the Phantom infiltrates the production and kidnaps Christine one last time. Raoul risks his life chasing after the Phantom and Christine. In the final showdown between Raoul and the Phantom, Raoul is overtaken by the Phantom and Christine must choose which man she wants to be with. In the end, the Phantom lets Christine and Raoul go. Though it is not shown that they lead a happy life together, it is implied that they got married and had children as the final scene depicts Raoul visiting his wife, Christine s, grave (Schumacher). Symbolism plays a major role in The Phantom of the Opera. Christine is represented as being young and innocent. She is often depicted wearing white. • 9. High Powered Offenses In The NFL With the exception of the Steelers who had to deal with the Patriots for a career playoff fourth time, not a one of us thought these high powered offenses would be stopped. To many of us, these teams represented in the words of Mike and Mike stone cold lead pipe locks and surefire winners for that upcoming Super Bowl season. I mean how many number one defenses have ever shut down number one offenses? The New York Giants defense was ranked seventh in 2007 when they entered the playoffs. The number one ranked Steelers defense couldn t even handled the Patriots that year. But as it stands, great defenses seem to have a way of cutting great offenses down to size. The 85 Bears completely demolished the Patriots in Super Bowl XX. The 01 Patriots stymied the Greatest Show on Turf St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The 07 Giants stomped out and over the undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The 14 Seahawks overloaded Peyton Manning s Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. The 16 Broncos derailed the freight train looking Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We ve offended people and we have been offended by people. At some point those offenses may cause us to become defensive. In fact, I think we have deepened the American depth chart and fielded a nation of defensive poses. Gathering from what we ve seen on the football field, we know that a great defense tends to snuff out a great offense. As a result, I believe our culture has become grounded by defensiveness and knocked out of rhythm. The only side working with any rhythm is the defensive stances we ve taken on issues that others oppose. Defensive coordinators could probably come up with a few new schemes of their own if they could figure out how to translate what s happening in today s society in the film room. I know my cynicism is starting to show by now. The point being, our defensiveness has either shifted us all the way to the far right or all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Stories Of Sherwood Anderson’S Winesburg, Ohio Are The stories of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio are an intersecting group of tales that emphasize the grotesque over a wide spectrum. While some of Anderson s stories focus upon the physical grotesque, other characterizations demonstrate the ability of the human psyche to exemplify the grotesque. Such is the case with Anderson s short storyHands. Hands is a story of society s tendency to marginalize those who can be categorized as grotesque, or those who simply refuse categorization entirely. Anderson s tale of social isolation utilizes the image of the hands to symbolize the emotional expression of Wing Biddlebaum in order to drive an implicit theme that emotional internalization and social isolation is a veritable prison. Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, Wing is still plagued by doubts about his hands and is striving to conceal them even in the fields. Anderson writes, The hands alarmed their owner. He wanted to keep them hidden away and looked with amazement at the quiet inexpressive hands of other men who worked beside him in the fields, or passed, driving sleepy teams on country roads (Anderson 4). Another recurring image is Wing s tendency to hide his hands in his pockets. This image occurs several times over the duration of Anderson s story. In another instance Anderson writes, Wing Biddlebaum talked much with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the piston rods of his machinery of expression (Anderson 3). This image is repeated again when Wing is conversing with George. Wing is horrified by the sight of his own hands and With a convulsive movement of his body, Wing Biddlebaum sprang to his feet and thrust his hands deep into his trousers pockets (Anderson 5). This imagery involving hands being thrust into pockets is intended by Anderson to be a metaphor for prison. Wing s hands are repeatedly described in terms of birds. Biddlebaum s own name reflects this very idea. According to Anderson, The story of Wing Biddlebaum is a story of hands. The Company was audited by an accounting firm (The Firm) that is recognized as one of the Big Four Accounting firms in the world. The Firm found that the company was participating in a practice known as profit management . The Firm did not comply with this standard since, given the opportunity, another firm may have been more persistent about rectifying the problem before signing the financial statements. Managing the internal audit activity is the responsibility of the Chief Audit Executive (CAE). Mr. Eatough was the CAE in this case, therefore it was his responsibility to oversee the quality of The Firm s work and to report the outcomes to the board. Mr. Eatough did not effectively manage the internal audit activity since the outcome of The Firm s work did not conform with the IIA s Code of Ethics or the Standards. The Company should initially have appointed a board to which Mr. Eatough could have written his report. He would have been able to draw the board s attention to the fact that The Company executives were partaking in an unethical activity. Mr. Eatough s report referred to the profit managing activity as a deliberate deferral of reported income when he should have called it fraud. Standard 2410 requires that results are communicated in such a way as to minimize the risk of misinterpretation. • 14. Tone Of One Perfect Rose At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but further analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they lead one to believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden change in tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the speaker s tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the roseis anything but perfect. In a way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot going for her she just wasn t satisfied. She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect limousine do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this, as the reader, one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written in 1937 when the Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties, all she really wanted was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is repeated throughout stanza 1 and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the mocking repetition of one perfect indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly changes when she states, do you suppose? . The question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on more of a conversational tone. The poem suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for. They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line 11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my luck to get one perfect rose. I have chosen architecture as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were specialists in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living could be made from the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings, often working from the window of a convenient room rather than at street level. Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue. The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. The photograph doesn t really have a story to it, as there isn t much going on, it doesn t have energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is because it is a calm, quiet setting you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the beautiful view. I think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to the fact that the composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The photo has strong verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space. The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been essential. The photo also has some negative points to it. The angle at which the photograph is taken from makes the picture looks really flat and plain, For instance if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Nuclear Weapons And Atomic Weapons Essay Nuclear weapons are a threatening war tactic that has become more frequent in the new media, especially in the past few weeks after Hillary Clinton released an updated version of the Daisy ad inferring that if elected, Donald Trump will misuse the nuclear weapons of the United States. Nuclear power is a big responsibility and since the start of its use, scientists and politicians have tried to separate weapons and nuclear power. However, one must first understand what a nuclear weapontruly is to understand how they can be a threat. Nuclear weapons are devices that are designed to release energy in an explosive manner as a result of nuclear fission, nuclear fusion or a combination of the two processes (Norris). There are various kinds of nuclear weapons, the most common being fission, and fusion weapons. Fission weapons are often called atomic bombs. Fission (atomic) bombs can be simple to build although obtaining the materials for them can be tough. The material needs to have a high probability of undergoing neutron induced fission, produce a fair number of neutrons with each reaction, have a reasonably long half life, and have fissile material that is accessible (easy to dig up or easily made in a nuclear reactor) (Bryan 83). The National Academy of Sciences says, the critical and indispensable ingredient of a nuclear explosive device is either highly enriched uranium or separated plutonium 239. The FDA reacted to concerns over confusing DTC prescription drug ads by issuing final guidance in 1999, which relaxed previous regulations and redefined adequate provision of risks and benefits to include reference to a toll free number or web site. • 21. Glass Cockpit Case Study A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH A WARNING SYSTEM After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering with a degree in computer engineering, I was offered a job at Company X, a recreational aircraft manufacture. Several years later, I was made the head of a team tasked with designing the code for the glass cockpit of a new airplane that Company X plans to produce. The glass cockpit is a screen that displays data such as airspeed, altitude, and vertical airspeed. This technology replaces the analog gauges that have been used in almost every airplane for the past century. The advantage of the glass cockpit is that it takes all the raw data that would have otherwise been displayed by the gauges, processes it, and then displays in an easy understand picture of aircrafts current situation and position. This allows the pilot to spend less time referring to the numerous gauges around the cockpit, and more time focusing on situational awareness [1]. With the deadline for completion only one week away, the code for the glass cockpit is going through its final tests. During the test of the carburetor ice warning system, it was found that under certain conditions, the warning light may not be displayed when ice is forming inside of the carburetor. If no warning light is displayed, the pilot may not know to take corrective action if he has also missed the other indications of ice forming, such as a drop in the engines rotations per minute (RPM). If no corrective action is taken, then the carburetor could become completely blocked off with ice thus causing the engine to fail [2]. As a licensed private pilot, I know that a midflight engine failure can be lethal to the pilot, the passengers, and anyone on the ground who happens to be in the way. I report the problem to my supervisor and tell him that the team will need at least two more weeks to go through all the code, find the problem, and fix it. His response is very troubling. He tells me that because the test results show that the warning system only has the potential to fail under a very specific set of conditions, it is alright for me to just leave that out of my report. This was clearly evident because Britain was dedicated to a full forced takeover versus Britain that sent only what they could spare. The British had a fleet of ships in their Royal Navy that was a key cog in taking over New France. The British used these ships to capture French ships sent from France with supplies from entering port. As a result, Louisbourg was the first domino to fall. In 1758, Louisbourg witnessed this massive fleet of ships enter the bay and initiate an all out assault on the fortress. Soldiers under the command of General Amherst and James Wolfe proceeded with the attack but took heavy artillery fire upon their arrival at shore. Haydn began his work just as the influence of the High Baroque era was fading out and a new style had yet to develop. As the genre of Classical music spawned and matured, so did Haydn s music; his later work is notably more complex and urbane when compared to his earlier pieces.
