When developing goals, one should create intermediate goals within 30 days, short term goals within 3-9 months, and long term goals over 1 year. Intermediate goals build confidence and motivation to achieve short and long term goals, which can otherwise seem daunting. Breaking big goals into smaller intermediate goals makes them less intimidating and helps develop self-confidence as each step is accomplished. Goals are most easily achieved when broken down into smaller, more manageable parts.

The 6 Patterns of High Performing TeamsDeidre Paknad
Great Teams Exhilarate — What Sets Them Apart?
There is nothing quite like the sensation and satisfaction of being on a high performing team. I’ve had this luck and pleasure a number of times in my career, but it’s rarer than I’d like. High performing teams seem to generate their own energy and elevate everyone on the team to their full potential.
Despite achieving more, working on these teams is less taxing — the workday feels shorter and less frustrating.
So what sets high performing teams apart and why aren’t all teams so successful and fun?
High performing teams aren’t just a collection of strong individual performers, although that certainly helps. They don’t leave great performance to luck or personality, they design for success.
Here are 6 tangible and actionable attributes of high performing teams:
1. Defined Goals
Defined goals and a clear plan to achieve them are essential to great performance. Abstract annual goals aren’t enough — teams need shorter-range, compelling and clear goals that unify and galvanize them on shared purpose. Sequencing these to an annual result works well, but it’s key the team wants to achieve the goals.
2. Committed Actions
Successful teams write down the committed actions each person owns on the path to goal achievement (and they waste less time determining who owns what). Members feel a sense of personal ownership and have a shared intention to accomplish the results they’ve committed to the team week over week. Making progress on actions aligned with a goal people believe in energizes people and elevates their performance, according to author and Harvard professor Teresa Amabile.
3. True Transparency
Facts and status enable members of the team to work more effectively together, pivot or adjust course quickly on unforeseen events, and execute with greater efficiency and predictability. Embracing transparency is one of the most distinct features of high performing teams (and a stark contrast to the politicized and professional “ball hiders” that frequent lesser performing teams). Moreover, the activity required to achieve transparency improves the odds of goal achievement: people with written goals and actions alone have a 43% goal achievement rate while adding status reports against goals boosts the likelihood of achievement to 76%.
4. Unabashed Accountability
The team leader and members hold themselves and each other accountable for their commitments and goal achievement week to week. When the team or a person comes up short, it’s not swept under the rug — it’s triaged and addressed quickly to get back on track to goal. There is a uniform expectation of each other, that when combined with a uniformly high level of commitment to goal, are the essence of a high performing team’s greatness.
5. Frequent Feedback
Members of the team get and ask for regular feedback on their work. Learning members get positi

Setting SMART goals can help those starting, growing, or pivoting their career bring their vision to life by clearly articulating personal or professional objectives.
Goals provide direction and focus on where you want to end up. There are different types of goals, including short-term goals that can be achieved within weeks or months, and long-term goals that take longer, such as a year or more. Goals can also be fixed, with a specific deadline, or flexible without a set timeline. Setting unrealistic goals that are untimely, require unavailable resources, or are too general can lead to feelings of failure. Creating SMART goals helps make goals specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound for successful achievement.

Dynamic Wellness JourneyCare Goal setting and researchaltonbaird
The document summarizes research on effective goal-setting strategies. It discusses a study that looked at 10 common goal achievement techniques and found that only a few actually helped people achieve their goals. The most effective strategies included making a step-by-step plan, focusing on the positive outcomes of achieving the goal, rewarding progress, and recording progress. Simply relying on willpower, fantasizing about outcomes, or thinking about negative consequences did not correlate with success. The document emphasizes setting specific and realistic goals, using proven techniques, tracking progress, and adjusting goals as needed.
This document provides tips for setting concrete goals to increase productivity. It recommends writing down specific plans about when and where to complete tasks, as students who did this were twice as likely to finish an essay. Additional tips include making goals measurable, attainable, time-bound, announcing goals to others for accountability, getting help from others, automating good habits, managing stress, and rewarding accomplishments to stay motivated long-term. Setting concrete, written goals can dramatically improve follow-through and success.
The document discusses goal setting and provides guidance on how to effectively set goals. It defines goals and different types of goals such as long-term, short-term, and immediate goals. It emphasizes that goals should be specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, and tangible. Goals also need to be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The document outlines steps for setting goals, including identifying goals, strategies to achieve them, selecting the best strategies, and making specific plans. It stresses the importance of writing goals down and developing motivation and commitment to achieving goals.
Goal setting provides direction and motivation to achieve dreams and wants. Effective goals are specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and tangible. They should also be reviewed regularly. When setting goals, it is important to identify strategies and plans to accomplish each goal. Writing goals down commits a person to achieving them. Maintaining motivation and commitment ensures progress towards goals. Flexibility is also important, as goals may need adjusting based on changing circumstances.
Goal setting provides direction and motivation to achieve dreams and wants. Effective goals are specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and tangible. They should also be reviewed regularly. When setting goals, one should fantasize about their dreams, consider what is realistic, aim high but be truthful about what they intend to accomplish, develop a method or plan, and regularly evaluate progress. Goals fail if they are not written down, there are no rewards, they are unrealistic or there is little commitment. Setting goals provides benefits like less stress, better concentration, more confidence and happiness.

7 Steps to Create Measurable, Attainable Goals for 7 Areas of Your Life
1.
2. STEP 1
Make a list of the seven areas in which you will create your
goals:
1. Financial
2. Career
3. Spiritual
4. Physical
5. Intellectual
6. Family
7. Social
3. STEP 2
Start by creating 1-3 long term goals for each area.
At this point, they can be very general, we will polish
them up in the following steps.
4. STEP 3
For each goal, make sure to answer these 3 questions:
1. What do I want to accomplish?
Make this specific.
2. When do I want to achieve this by?
You must make yourself accountable, that’s why you need
a deadline.
3. Why do I want to achieve this?
Make sure this goal is something you want to achieve for
yourself.
5. STEP 4
Make sure your goals adhere to the following:
• Realistic - Do you have the resources needed? Do
you have the skills/talents? Are you financially able?
• Purposeful - Why is this goal important to you? What
will you or others gain from it?
• Personal - Is this goal what you want or what
someone else wants?
6. STEP 5
Short term goals
These will be written more often than the long term
goals.
Determine how often you will write them and make
that a goal in itself!
For each long term goal, you will have several short
term goals which may or may not be the same every
week.
7. STEP 6
Make sure your short term goals include the following:
Action words
Time limits
Quantities
8. STEP 7
Write these down!
On a whiteboard; pad of paper; computer document;
anywhere that others can see.
Share with anyone that will listen or read!
This will help you stay motivated and accountable.
Revisit and check your goals often!
This will help you stay on task and feel
accomplished!
9. EXAMPLE OF A PHYSICAL GOAL:
Long term goal
I will lose 20 lbs by August 31 to be healthier and feel
better on a daily basis.
Short term goals
I will log my food into a calorie counting program once
per week to monitor my portion sizes.
I will exercise for at least 20 minutes every day to
increase my endurance and decrease stress.
I will take a 2 mile walk any day that is above 40
degrees and not raining to get fresh air and vitamin D.
