Trauma and Adult Learning Essay
Trauma and Adult Learning
Effects of Trauma on Learning
Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty
beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those in
power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self esteem/confidence, inability to concentrate, or
panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no symptoms; at the other end
of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of
responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent expectation of danger, constriction
(dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis 2001).
It may not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses:
Instead of diagnosing and treating victims, find ways to make the learning environment safer for
everyone (Horsman 1997).
Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which
institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999).
Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b;
Williamson 2000).
What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme
situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful
learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate
support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations,
learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to
trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal
qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for
inappropriate learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and support and the
recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. Some of the hidden
learning from trauma includes the following:
All or nothing reactions such as shifting between

An Essay About Baba Yaga
I will say that I was quite surprised to find Baba Yaga on the list of the deities. It s not that I don t like
her, but I always thought, ever since I was a very young child, that she was a fairytale character and a
very scary one, to be sure! I remember, when I was reading ancient Russian tales, the depiction of a
horrid woman with a bent nose, the most terrifying house and a screech to take away the courage of
the bravest person who had ever roamed the Earth. So, finding out that Baba Yaga was not a fairytale
character, but a Goddess, made me feel both cheated and elated. Cheated, because I don t like having
someone like a Goddess transformed into just a fairytale (although I believe that fairytales are wise).
And elated, for I always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those three children were also representative of her own nature: she is capable of giving, with care,
existence to Light, something that might seem strange, from one who seems to have nothing in her but
harshness. This, however, makes it evident that she is a Crone Goddess, and that it is because of this
that the passage to the stage of Life (with all that it has within) is possible. Some sources even say that
she keeps the waters of life and death . I think this might be true, for Baba Yaga is always making sure
that we die and that we relive: she sees that we let behind those things that are dragging us down or
that are giving us pain and then lets us drink the water we need, she gives us what we actually needed
to grow up and to go on with our lives. She also had around her some invisible servants, who did the
housework that she didn t feel like doing and who made her biding. Some say that these servants are
representative of the elementals and of her rule over them. It might be so, as it was also said that she
controlled everything around her (even natural

Conversion Of Sto Analysis
Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells the
story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St. Paul) was on
his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit from heaven. He fell
to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 9: 1 6).
Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have been really bright and
sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is dark, as if the event took
place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul ecstasy. The servant and the horse
are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of contrast between light from the sky and
ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up painting God and angels instead he painted
presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic contrast between supernatural light and ordinary
darkness. Paul young, beautiful and ecstatic persona is countered with very realistic image of a servant
and a horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

raised hand seems to be reaching to touch not only God but viewer as well. Everything is quite real in

Reality Test Should Be Used For School
Imagine yourself back in your freshman year of highschool. It is early October and field hockey is
going great. Classes are not too bad either, and reports are right around the corner. On Monday your
teacher pulls you aside and lets you know that if you do not get at least an eighty on this next test you
will not do well in the class. Not only do you have other work due for school, but you have a job, field
hockey and only two days left to study and really understand the material. This is currently the issue
with test, teachers are using them as end point grades. This means they use them to see how much
someone knows. Hence, using tests as final scoring of what they have learned. In reality test should be
used to help guide teaching. As a teacher we should realize that test grades are affected by a lot of
outside sources and are not always reliable. Test should be used to help guide the way teachers help
their students learn, not used to measure what a student already knows. To lay a foundation for why
tests should not be used to measure how much students know, but rather used as a guide for what
teachers should teach we will look at the reliability of test. There are many factors that come into play
when we are talking about test reliability, one being that there is not real feedback when it comes to
tests. In the school district that I grew up in after our tests were graded and then given back to us with
only incorrectly answered questions marked. A lot of the time

Leading Shiite Ideologies, Questions and Answers
Questions:
Briefly identify the main features of the 3 main variations among the leading Shiite ideologies with
regard to Iranian culture and the Shah s regime? What were the main issues Ayatollah Khomeini had
with the Shah s regime?
Answer:
The Iranian revolution was an ideological affair. With different visions for the future of Iran, the
revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions of
these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of that
Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to denounce the
Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah s regime. The Shi
ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on Islamic culture with an
increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly with the western culture
policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The second difference was, shi ite
(shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in Islamic countries, the Iranian
culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite (Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah
s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and western policy makers. This difference
was also mostly liable for the Iranian revolution. The third and last variation was, the Shi ite (Shiyah)
ideologies tends to follow the shariyah,

Red Dog Analysis
In the Red Dog and The Turning, the theme of loss is an issue used to shape meaning on the idea of
change using specific language choices; the way in which the two themes are seen by the audience to
convey the meaning of change. The two texts use the theme of loss to shape meaning of change. In red
dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people around him, strengthening the theme
of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog (2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously
affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s
life, and the people around him, especially Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too.
The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm
with her family. The audience sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and
impacts the rest of the story. The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the
theme of loss. Not only in dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The
audience sees the effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re
home now boy Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s
voice, a specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to
the audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the
use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will cause a
huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning and Red Dog,
the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to create meaning
and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these themes and ideas can be
better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme of loyalty quite
extensively in the first story. Biggie and Billy share quite a connection, For a while my mother thought
Biggie and me were gay The Turning (2004), the two went through high school together, Billy pretty
much wrote Biggies

McMahon, R.J. amp; Forehand, R.L. (2003). Helping the noncompliant child: family based treatment
for oppositional behavior. New York: The Guilford Press.
Summary
The purpose of this book is to provide a detailed description of the empirically validated Helping the
Non Compliant Child (HNC) program a program created to help parents improve their children s (ages
3 8) noncompliant and oppositional behavior.
Chapter 1 provides background information on noncompliance by discussing the role of compliance
and noncompliance in normal development and by highlighting the role of noncompliance in the
development of conduct problems early in life. The authors stress that current research ... Show more

Progression to each new skill is determined by the therapist s use of behavioral criteria collected
during each session.
Chapter 4 describes the assessment methods and procedures that the therapist should use. Numerous
sample documents are provided to facilitate and standardize data collection. This data gathered during
assessment is utilized to formulate a treatment plan and, ultimately, to evaluate the success of the
treatment. When the problems present themselves in the school setting or with peers and/or siblings,
information is obtained concerning those areas as well.
Chapters 5 7 provide detailed instructions on the implementation of the HNC. Chapter 5 starts with a
description of the feedback session where the therapist presents his conceptualization of the child s
noncompliance and recommendations for intervention. A detailed sample program outline is also
provided.
In Chapter 6, the Phase I skills of differential attention attending, rewarding and ignoring are
explained in detail. As soon as the first session begins, the therapist models appropriate parenting
skills by explaining the extinction procedure (ignoring) will occur should the child interrupt the
conversation between the parent and therapist and by demonstrating positive reinforcement (attends
and rewards) should the child

A Western Hero in Shane Essay
A Western Hero in Shane
The western genre plays an important part in the mythologising of American history. The way the
western genre and particularly the western hero are put across in such films as Shane, are most likely
not how real life in the 1880s was. In Shane the hero arrived on horseback, he was confident,
handsome and managed to charm the female character, Marion, almost immediately.
Typically, throughout the film the mysterious gunslinger was wearing a cowboy hat and a holster
around his waist. His clean cut, masculine looks give an initial impression that Shane was to be the
protagonist of the story. In reality, 1880s men were likely to be sexist or cruel, however this is not ...

The next shot is from long distance showing him riding across the plain. The distance of which the
shot is taken suggests his isolation and also gives the impression that he has been travelling for a long
time, and equally, has a long way yet to go.
Also a distant shot, we see the figure riding along side the lake facing the family s house. In the
foreground is a Deer whose antlers frame the figure perfectly. The shot looks almost picturesque as
Joey watches Shane through the Deer s antlers.
Shane arrives at the family s log cabin, still on horseback; he talks with the family. The shot is a close
up of Shane, however the difference in levels appears to give Shane authority over them, which is how
he is perceived throughout the film. He smiles at Joey and compliments him on his attentiveness, You
were watching me down the trail quite a spell, weren t ya?...Y know…I like a man who watches
things going on around, means he ll make his mark someday. This is the moment we first recognise
that Shane has an able way with children and from here he builds a good friendship with Joey.
Similar to the last, the next is a low angle shot looking up at Shane, giving him the higher status in this
scene. This time attention is drawn to the clouds behind, which makes him appear almost

Response To The Author Chaplains The Locket
In the short story The Locket, it is believed that the author Chaplains writing style has kept the readers
guessing throughout the story. Many would agree that the ending of the story was a shocker and few
expected that conclusion. They would agree that the father in law proceeding with the funeral
arrangements supporting the assumption the deceased person in the coffin was Edmund because he
had the locket around his neck played into the authors plot twist. People would also say that the end of
the story was intriguing, especially when Octavia opened the letter from the priest, returning her
locket to her expressing his sorrow of the death of her husband Edmund. Only to find out at the very
end Edmund was not dead and he was waiting for her at the door.
In the conclusion of the story, many would say they didn t really know what was going to happen in
the end of the book. Chaplain threw a curve ball and surprised all at the ending of the story. The writer
did a very good job of confusing readers that the man at the campfire that died was Edmund. Allowing
everyone to conclude even the priest character played into this misdirection that Edmund was dead.
Some might argue that in hindsight that something was not right when the dad said take off your black
veil it is a beautiful day for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the letter, the priest said he had found a body with the locket around his neck making the
assumption it was Edmund. This gave the readers a feeling that the assumption was true. Thus,
everyone believed that he was dead and that there was no turning back for Octavia. It made everyone
feel as if the story was over. The author tricked the readers as no one suspected at this part of the story
that Edmund was still alive or that the boy from the campfire stole the locket from Edmund because
he thought it was a good luck

Much research has supported the fact that there is brain structure differences in individuals diagnosed
with FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Research into the brain of individuals has discovered abnormalities in
the volume and thickness of the frontal lobes (Nunez, el al 2011). This results in impairments in
attention, working memory, and executive functioning that can be traced back to the frontal lobes
(Nunez, el al 2011). In addition researchers have also found smaller volumes of basal ganglia, which
is a group of nuclei associated with motor control and learning (Nunez, el al 2011). Furthermore,
caudate nucleus, which is inside the basal ganglia has also been found to be smaller in individuals was
FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Caudate nucleus is associated with mental flexibility and behaviour

My Education Is Important And Important Aspects Of Education
My education remains important to me because it the key component of my successful future as an
individual. The experiences I have been through, from elementary school to high school, have opened
my eyes to the different types of education different schools have to offer. The schools that I have
been to have required me to go through change that takes time. I have always been considerate of class
because the schools that I have been to include students from all social classes. I keep this in mind
when I try to connect with other students. I try to make myself more approachable and productive with
them, because there are certain conflicts that may make it difficult to successfully communicate with
them. This has also interfered with my actual education as well, because I need to be considerate of
my teachers as well. Class within education brings in many factors that put us within a group of
individuals that may have a different experience with education compared to other of different classes.
I attended Paramus Catholic high school, and the change from elementary school was very dramatic.
This high school had about 1500 students when I joined, so making new friends was quite difficult. I
was told that everyone at my school was friendly, but I didn t believe it. I saw students from all
different towns and all different social classes. I needed to make friends who I could relate to, because
there were simply too many students in my school to become companions with. My first approach was
to find other students of the same race as me, Filipino. The first two friends I made in high school
were both Filipino, and it was easy to converse with them. After talking to them for a few days, I
learned that one of them was in the working class, and the other was very wealthy. I assumed that
becoming friends with them was only easy because we could connect through our backgrounds, and
the idea of class division still frightened me. Afraid of making new friends, I took on the challenges of
high school on my own, with no help from any of my classmates. I felt that I could be independent,
especially after my parents told me to put school before friends. As a result, I stayed up late at night
trying to learn all the material

want the baby to be. Doctors will make up lies and tell the parents that it is necessary for to have
surgery because of the baby s health but that s a huge fallacy. If given the opportunity to choose the
gender on my intersex child, I would oppose toward the surgery of modifying his or her sex. I may not
be conforming with the social norm, but I also strongly believe that my child should make the choice
of what gender they want to be when they are older.
Intersex babies nowadays are being decided what sex they will be according to what the doctor
prefers. Parents are being told that their babies have to have surgery because if not, then they may
become sick in the long run. This is absolutely not true. That so called sickness that doctors refer to is
just a matter of being able to fit into society. For example, in Dueling Dualisms by Fausto sterling, she
argues that the issue is that because one is born a certain sex that that s the gender role they are
suppose to play in society. She writes that what is at issue is the embodied nature of identities and
experience. Experience is not individual and fixed, but irredeemably social and processual. With this
being said, as a

HEALTH EFFECTS OF HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING ON TYPE 2 DIABETES
Many people suffer from type 2 diabetes, a type of metabolic disease (Curry et al., 2015; Hawley
Gibala, 2012). The prevalence of this disease has been increasing; one reason for this increase could
be increased consumption of food as well as decreased prevalence of physical activity (Hawley
Gibala, 2012). Patients with type 2 diabetes are not able to metabolise glucose properly (Curry et al.,
2015). Type 2 diabetes can cause patients to be very thirsty, excessively weary, and to experience a
broad variety of other symptoms (Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). It is often treated with insulin in order to help
the body metabolise glucose (Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). However, taking insulin can result in weight gain
(Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). Fat of the abdomen can be an indicator of the likelihood of developing
cardiovascular disease in an individual with type 2 diabetes, which is heavily correlated with type 2
diabetes (Siren, Eriksson, Vanhanen, 2012). In terms of lifestyle choices, type 2 diabetes patients are
often told to focus on diet, but are also encouraged to increase frequency of physical activity (Alvarez
et al., 2016; Hawley Gibala, 2012). Physical activity has been shown to decrease the amount of deaths
resulting from diabetes related causes (Church et al., 2004). Increased physical activity has been
shown to help glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes (Curry et al., 2015). People who

Juxtaposition In Jonah
In Jonah 4, we saw that when you run without God s love, God runs to make you love Him so that you
will begin to love people the way God loves people more than anything.
Jonah became vehemently angry when God spared Nineveh. He prayed, which is a good thing, but
how he prayed leaves quite a bit to be desired: 3 Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from
me, for it is better for me to die than to live!
The LORD is not going to allow His servant to have this wrong attitude, so He confronts Jonah with a
question: 4 Then the LORD said, Is it right for you to be angry?
This is a conversation between God and Jonah. We re third party. Jonah is saying to God, I m mad that
You spared the Ninevites and forgave them and showed Your love and mercy!
God responds by asking Jonah a question: Is it right for you to be angry?
So what would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What does Jonah do here? He made himself a little shelter and watches, pouting, he s still mad!
What does it mean ~ till he might see what would become of the city ~ it means that he is still holding

I hope they start doing evil things again so You can blast them into oblivion! That s Jonah! He has

He s running without God s love. And God is not going to let up on him any more than He s going to
let up on you and me until we get hearts like God s ~ and start loving people like God loves people!
The rest of this story demonstrates how God is so creative in the way that He deals with people. Look
how He deals with Jonah in verse 6 ~ 6 And the LORD God prepared a plant and made it come up
over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very

Demise of the Weimar Republic
The demise of the Weimar Republic did not occur due to one sole reason, but because of a number of
short and long term factors. The economic, political and international pressure placed on the people of
Germany ensured the loathing of the forced governmental rule. The immediate impact of the Great
Depression of 1929, which has been debated and considered by most historians to be the dominant
factor in the downfall of the democratic experiment which subsequently led to continuous political
instability ultimately saw the collapse of the first democratic government of Germany.
Some historians generally blame the fall of the Republic on president von Hindenburg s abuse of
constitutional powers. Historian David Martin states that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Before the US dollar has been 4.2 marks, by 1920 it was worth 64.8 marks thus German taxation
increased. Anyone with access to even a few pounds became a trillionaires over night. The losers of
the hyperinflation were those with a fixed income, the working class, people living off their savings
and wage earners. By June 1923, the government had lost control of the economy, as strikes swepped
the country as workers protested about the rising unemployment and the failure of their wages to keep
up with the cost of living. In August, the govenment finally fell, with President Ebert called for the
leader of the German people party, Streseman, to form a new party. He formed the great coalition
which brought together left and right wing. In the next six years, German society picked up with the
induction into the League of Nations, the Dawes plan of 1924 which provided foreign loans to
Germany and the Young Plan which saw the reduction in Germany s reparation figure by 95 million.
The downside of Germany s new economic prosperity meant that society was living off borrowed
money and was over dependant on foreign loans and investment. The economic power was
concentrated in the hands of influential industrialists and bankers and employment was still on the
rise. Within these six years, the Weimar republic surprisingly enjoyed a period of relative political
stability.

Trail Creative Writing
It was dark. No city lights were visible from the forest trail; the only light source was the dim light of
the crescent moon in the clear night sky. A lone hiker walked down the trail in the night. The trail was
nothing but a pale brown streak that wound through the endless canopy of trees. Leaves glistened with
droplets of water that shimmered in the silver moonlight. Water soaked earth soiled and froze one s
feet with coarse sandpaper like dirt and icy water. All was quiet except for the constant sound of
sloshing from the wet ground. New scenes of trees, more trees, and an occasional body of water
appeared in the distance ahead and dissolved quietly into the darkness behind. Still nothing made a
sound except for the ground which sloshed when stepped upon. The smell of fresh pine and sage
permeated the cold night air. Out of the darkness ahead, a fork in the trail emerged along with a
reflective orange sign. Warning! Extremely dangerous stuff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

and descended into a large valley.. The bottom of which was completely concealed by fog. Only the
tops of old wooden buildings and metal pipes that connected the tall buildings were visible above the
ghostly pool. A crumbling two lane road exited the small city just ahead. Barricades had been erected
in front of the road. Not a single light from this small town was visible through the dense vapor. The
distant screech of an owl echoed throughout the valley before the silence returned once again. The
unsuspecting hiker let out a scream as he fell down the side of the hill to where the abandoned city sat

Wright Brothers Evolution
After the motor car was invented the world thought they could do just about anything. Men had
always dreamed of taking to the sky and soaring like birds, now they could. On December171903 in
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina this dream became a reality when the Wright Brothers, Orville and
Wilbur, discovered a way to fly, making the world a little bigger. With the invention of the first flying
machine and their investigation into aeronautics, the Wright Brothers, paved the way for the future of
flight. During their investigation the Wright Brothers faced many problems, but they plowed through
and achieved their goal within four years. The airplane opened up many possibilities and exploration

last flight. While Orville gained elevation, Milton cried out, After their successful flight, the Wright
brothers approached the governments of England, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States War
Department. After a few private sales, the War Department commissioned a plane in 1907. With this
purchase, the Brothers opened up a school to teach pilots about the airplane. The first of these schools
was established in Montgomery, Alabama on March151910. After receiving the schooling, these pilots
were then able to instruct future pilots. In 1909, the French government also bought a plane with the
condition that could have one that could carry a passenger. The brothers quickly went to work and
added an additional seat and increased the power of the motor. Aviation was beginning to take flight!
Flight has expanded the world s horizon. Through flight we can now travel in a matter of minutes
what used to take days. We are able to reach destinations which were once unreachable. During the
first trip to the moon, Neil Armstrong carried a piece of the Wright Flyer with him, symbolizing the

Wright Brothers were ordinary people who followed their dream. They never gave up and laid the
foundation for aviation. Pioneers in the truest sense. The airplane, we have come to realize, has
changed how we think and live. We know SO much more because of this brilliant invention. The

I was amazed by the story involved within the cathedral from it changing from different name titles

helped shape how Ireland is today because it converts over 1500 years ago and has been a huge place
for the Celtic ways of worship. It is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland, and has played a
huge role in many people lives (StPatricksCathedral, 2017). Later that day five of us left the group and
went to get our rental car. Madi, Paige, Trey, Kaylin, Lonnie (you) got the exciting experience to go
see the Blarney Castle and Gardens. What I expected from this place was just a castle with a stone that
you kiss to get eloquence, but what I experienced was much more. This place was breathtaking, and I
was able to experience it with a great group of people! This place had a lot of history and helped shape
the culture of Ireland. The Blarney stone is very special because over 200 years people have climbed
the castle to the top to kiss the stone and gain the gift of eloquence. This place had many other things
like the The Rock Close and Water Garden, The Poison Garden, Arboretums, The Fern Garden, The

Political Deadlocks Between Canada And Canada
Political Deadlock:
In 1841 Britain declared in the Act of the Union that both East West Canada would have equal
representation in the elected assembly of the Province of Canada. Britain made this decision because
Canada East outnumbered Canada West in terms of population. The guarantee of equal representation
was supposed to allay Canada West s fear of domination by French Catholics. However, it instead led
to political deadlock. A political deadlock is when the tho sides of government bock each other from
advancing any sort of agenda. By 1861, due to a large influx of immigrants into Canada West during
the 1850 s, the census showed that Canada west had almost 300,000 more people than Canada East.

Berger Family Encounters In Awake And Sing
The struggle the Berger family encounters in Awake and Sing is clearly evident by the setting Clifford
Odets sets up for his audience. Throughout the opening pages of the play, particularly in this excerpt,
the dialogue is chalk full with literary elements of mood, tone, and imagery. These three elements each
complement each other as they all provide the play with a dark, depressing, and somber overtone. Not
only does Odets provide the reader with textual and linguistic setting elements, but the physical setting
portrays a gloomy atmosphere as well. The play takes place in an apartment in the Bronx, New York
City during the Great Depression. Already, the time period of the play, in addition to the apartment
being in the poverty stricken neighborhood of the Bronx gives context to how hard it is for the Berger

and becomes less optimistic when he questions life by saying, What s it for? (Odets, 42). The audience
now sees a man struggling with his identity and purpose. Ralph s words set a strong, dark, and
continuous tone for the play that serves to encompass his entire family. Ralph continues to focus on
his working career and how he still cannot seem to provide the little things in life that he desires. The
reader is confronted with imagery that explains the reality of the Berger s situation through the eyes of
Ralph. The audience comes to realize that Ralph sleeps on a day bed in the front room (Odets, 42).

English Reformation Dbq Essay
Among the many religious changes that occurred throughout Europe in the sixteenth century, few
were as widely influential as the Reformation. There were three streams of the Reformation: the
common class, the educated middle class, and the monarchs and princes. All three streams wanted the
church to be fixed and hoped it could combine old ideas and new ones. The Reformation was
influenced by many different people, yet the most important was John Wyclif, who stated that the
church did not need possession in order to be powerful. Different ideologies came from the influences
of Wyclif, and many others. Lutheranism began in the mid 1500 s by Martin Luther, and he developed

Calvinism, run by John Calvin, focused on predestination the idea where God had already picked his

ideology also came into play during the Reformation called Zwinglism. Run by Zwingli, a German, he
began a reform of the Swiss city Zurich, and created the Priesthood of True Believers. Following the
new ideologies, the English Reformation began during this time period. The most important change
during the English reformation began when Queen Elizabeth took the throne back from Mary and

became present in Europe, and they all believed in the Inner light a concept of spiritual revelation.

Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place
on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for
seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with
rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they
were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type
of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only
one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until
she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire
lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her
past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked
as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the
red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album,
whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story
by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really
are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her
classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a
person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her
classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This
makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are
uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the
classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came
out, one of the rare events that Margot was greatly looking forward to, the classmates ...surged about

Methods Of Learning Algorithms For Groups Based On Their...
2.1.3 CLUSTERING: Among the available clustering methods, K Means algorithm is generally used
to divide learners into natural groups based on their behavior for a larger dataset. In the K Means
clustering method, the number of clusters, denoted by K is needed to be predefined to apply the
technique. This is one of the simplest and the most used unsupervised learning algorithm for
clustering. The procedure follows a simple and easy way to classify a given data set through a certain
number of clusters (assume k clusters) fixed a priori. The main idea is to define k centers, one for each
cluster. These centers should be placed in a cunning way because of different location causes different
result. So, the better choice is to place them as much as possible far away from each other. The next
step is to take each point belonging to a given data set and associate it to the nearest center. When no
point is pending, the first step is completed and an early group age is done. At this point we need to re
calculate k new centroids as barycenter of the clusters resulting from the previous step. After we have
these k new centroids, a new binding has to be done between the same data set points and the nearest
new center. A loop has been generated. As a result of this loop we may notice that the k centers change
their location step by step until no more changes are done or in other words centers do not move any
more. Finally, this algorithm aims at minimizing

The High Cost of Care Bitter Pill

Summary
Steven Brill feels that American health care is eating away at our economy and our treasury and
discusses the costs associated with the provision of health care services in the U.S.. The article
explores the medical world through the medical expenses incurred by a 64 year old Janice S., Sean
Recchi, A 42 year old from Lancaster, Ohio and several other egregiously billed patients. The article
poses the question: why exactly are the medical bills so high; in particular hospital bills?
The U.S. spends more on health care than the next 10 biggest spenders combined: Japan, Germany,
France, China, the U.K., Italy, Canada, Brazil, Spain and Australia. 10 of the 20 occupations ... Show

As it relates to the textbook, this describes some of the scope of the hospitals; which refers to the
range of activities which the firm performs internally, the breadth of its product and service offerings,
the extent of its geographic market and its mix of businesses. But unlike with the electric company, no
regulator caps hospital profits. To the extent that author Steven Brill found any consistency among
hospital charge master practices, this is one of them: hospitals routinely seem to charge 2V2 times
what expensive implantable devices cost them, which produces that 150% profit margin.
Besides, studies delving into the economics of the medical marketplace consistently find that a
moderately higher or lower price doesn t change consumer purchasing decisions much, if at all,
because in health care there is little of the price sensitivity found in conventional marketplaces, even
on the rare occasion that patients know the cost in advance. Most hospital administrators defend such
chargemaster rates at all, they maintain that they are just starting points for a negotiation. But patients
don t typically know they are in a negotiation when they enter the hospital, nor do hospitals let them
know that.
Millions of insurance plans have annual payout limits, though the more typical plans purchased by
employers usually set those limits at $500,000 or $750,000 which can also quickly be consumed by a
catastrophic illness.

The Oppression Of Motherhood
When will you have a child? is a question often heard by women nearing a certain age, or upon
achieving certain milestones in her life (such as marriage or after her 30th birthday). While it may be
true that women are indeed the only ones with the ability to bear children, having a child is portrayed
as a woman s right of passage. Individuals frequently overstep boundaries of privacy and inquire
insensitively about a woman s personal plan for children, and the male glorifying society is to be
blamed for this prying and expectation. Due to the fact that motherhood in general is largely linked to
women s subordination to men, voluntary alternate decisions are subject to public criticism for
violating the dominant norm. However, what if a woman truly has no desire to become a mother? Is it
really something that every woman should aspire to? Why are women who opt not to procreate

Persuasive Essay On The Right To Privacy
According to Merriam Webster dictionary, privacy is the quality or state of being apart from company
or observation, moreover, it is the freedom from unauthorized intrusion. In 1776, John Adams wrote
that it had been the British right to search houses without justification that sparked the fight for
independence. In other words, John Adams thought that it was an unjustified violation of privacy
which kindled one of history s most noteworthy revolutions. Despite the fact that nowhere in the U. S.
Constitution does it express the right to privacy, today, the debate and controversy surrounding the
right to privacy are debated endlessly. Privacy s definition has never changed, however, its meaning
continues to evolve. Today, acts of terrorism, unjust searches, and mass surveillance influence privacy
s definition and the regulation of collection, access, and use of personal information by private and
public actors. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the privacy standards serve to guarantee freedom
and autonomy rather than unduly restricting it. Today s debate on privacy is much different than
during the founding of independence while the concern and controversy are comparable.
The concept of privacy innately spawns from many early writings firstly in the writings of Aristotle, in
which he distinctly defines the differences between the public sphere of politics and political activity,
the Polis, and the private or domestic sphere of the family, known as the Oikos. The two

Hermaphrodite Vs Intersex
In visiting the ISNA website, there are many interesting things that one may come across. One of the
most interesting and important things on the site was the difference between a hermaphrodite and
intersex . The two terms are commonly confused; in fact, most people don t know that the two are
completely different. Intersex is the politically correct term to use while hermaphrodite is a
mythological term. The term intersex can be used to describe many conditions that can make a person
not be typically male or female. These conditions affect the human s reproductive anatomy. ... a person
might be born appearing to be female on the outside, but having mostly male typical anatomy on the
inside. Or a person may be born with genitals that seem to be in between male and female types...
(http://www.isna.org/faq/what_is_intersex). In addition to these conditions, a person can be born with
mosaic genetics which means that some of their cells contain XX (female) chromosomes, while others
contain XY (male) chromosomes. Although the term intersex describes certain conditions or

First, it is shocking that some people will not even know if they are intersex. There have been
occurrences where people have lived their entire lives without knowing they were intersex. Another
interesting point on the site is that men can have aphallia , which means that they are born without a

surprising that in the past, doctors operated on children without consent to make them either male or

Terrance Stanley Fox s Marathon Of Hope
Terrance Stanley Fox also known as Terry Fox was born on July 28, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At
the young age of 18 years old, Terry was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, what we know of as
bone cancer. Terry had no choice but to have his leg amputated 6 inches above his right knee. In the
hospital, Terry was surrounded by many fellow cancer patients which mainly consisted of young
children. Terry was so heartbroken about seeing the suffering of other patients he decided then that he
would run across Canada to raise money for future cancer research. Terry started his Marathon of
Hope in St. Johns Newfoundland on April 12th, 1980. Terry started out strong and soon attention

Social Movements And Collective Action Essay
INTRODUCTION: Theories regarding social movements and collective action are precisely
significant and valuable. They allow us to describe and explain such movements how they form and
organize, their agendas, the extent to which mobilization or counter mobilization process succeeds or
fails in different situations, and how they evaluate strategies and policies in the light of specific
outcomes. Self evidently, the terms and perceptions and the dialogue that we bring to bear must be in
coherence with the particular social movement that we are studying. Theories neither ascend nor
activate in an empty space, they have an itemized background behind their emergence and they are
revolutionized in response to the realities of the subject matter. As a result of the writings and research
there has been a lot of debate regarding diverse perspectives of various researchers. Advances and
defense of the existing school of thoughts were also presented along with the emergence of new
school of thoughts altogether. Comprehensive research related to social movements is being conducted
not only in the field of social sciences, but also in politics, communication and history. The purpose of
this chapter is to review some of the theories of social movements. The theories that we have
discussed are Mass Society Theory, Marxist theory, Relative Deprivation Theory, Resource
Mobilization Theory and Framing theory. An analysis on the application of these approaches in certain
situations, the

The Essential Role Of Bureaucracy Necessary In American...
A bureaucracy is not only needed in American democracy, furthermore, it plays an essential role to
keep it running smoothly. Some American citizens disagree that bureaucracies are beneficial for our
democracy because they do not get to vote in the officials or bureaucrats. However, if they would be
elected officials then the nominees running would campaign for fame or to be the next bureaucrat.
This would create disloyalty among the nominees. One of the responsibilities of government
bureaucrats is to implement the law given by Congress. If bureaucracy did not exist this responsibility
would be delegated to congress, and the checks and balance system would not be as influential
pertaining to laws. The Federal Bureaucracy provides the American people with the fifteen executive
departments. These departments are incredibly important and they address and regulate the protection,
health, education, transportation, etc, of the citizens of America. American democracy depends on and
benefits greatly on the organized bureaucracies in government.

would be getting sick frequently. The newest department added is the Department of Homeland
Security, and it ensures the safety of United State citizens. According to the article, What Exactly
Does the Department of Homeland Security Oversee? , Homeland Security s purpose is to make the
United States better prepared to handle and respond to terrorist actions and threats, to prevent
terrorism and cyber security breaches on U.S. shores and property abroad. Along with the other

There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily about
how they saw candy canes on the Wal Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the former
group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24 hour holiday music train since the mid 1990s. To
the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year.
I have never seen a more successful, impactful and sustainable impact on ratings as all Christmas
music, said Dan Vallie, a consultant to New Jersey s WEZW FM and other stations across the country.
This year, WEZW, also known as Easy 93.1, was the first radio station in the country to start airing 24
hour holiday tunes. They kicked off their nonstop broadcasting two weeks before Halloween. ... Show

They also point out that competition between broadcasters often leads to stations turning earlier and
earlier.
This year, Pandora is pushing over 35 holiday themed channels, and Sirius XM boasts 8, with one that
is nonstop year round. But the iHeartRadio Network has been plotting their attack all year. President
Darren Davis said their all holiday preparation usually begins in August.
It s about more than just the songs, said Davis. When you walk into a Hallmark store around the
holidays, everything is Christmas the carpet is Christmas, the window decorations are Christmas, it
smells like Christmas candles and cookies. That s the environment we try to create with our Christmas
radio station.
While most radio stations are racing to be the first, one UK station hopes to be the last. Starting today,
Birmingham s Free Radio 80s aims to set a new record as the first FM radio station to broadcast
nonstop holiday tunes for 33 days

Michelangelo s Influence On Donatello
In 1489 at the age of 14 Michelangelo went to live and study with the Medici family. Living there he
had the opportunity to meet important figures of the literary and humanistic scene of that time. Some
of the people that became important to Michelangelo were Angelo Poliziano a philosopher, Pico delia
Mirandola a poet, Marsilio Ficino and Cristoforo Landino {Dante s annotator} and also studied under
the guidance of a respected sculptor Bertoldo di Giovanni {1420 1491} once a student himself of
Donatello {1386 1466}. Michelangelo spent two happy years there. During these years, Michelangelo
spirit and intellect, had been formed by the humanistic values of the Renaissance but he was also
influenced by the Christian believes that were prevalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now 16 years old Michelangelo completed his first two commissions as a sculptor in marble, the
Madonna of the Stairs {fig1} depicting a religious scene, not only high lighting exceptional refined
technique but in its quiet serenity also suggests a deeply introspective side of his personality.
Michelangelo also displayed much influence from Donatello s low relief Madonna of the Clouds
which he created in 1425 . {fig2} His second piece was Battle of the Centaurs{fig3}, inspired by a
classical relief created by Giovanni 1410,[fig4} the unfinished marble sculpture depicts the mythical
battle between the Lapiths and the Centaurs, a popular subject taken from Ovid s Metamorphoses in
ancient Greece, inspired by the old Roman Sarcophagi, suggested to Michelangelo by the classical
scholar and poet Poliziano, in with its rioting mythological figures hints at the explosive emotions
raging within the young artist. These traits would later merge and give birth to some of the greatest
master pieces ever created. The work in this piece was significant in the tradition of non finito
sculpting technique for that reason. Michelangelo regarded it as the best of his early work.
Michelangelo s battle depicts the triumph not only of Greeks over barbarians and of civilization over
savagery, but of stone over

Trauma and Adult Learning Essay Trauma and Adult Learning Effects of Trauma on Learning Adults experiencing the effects of past or current trauma may display such symptoms as difficulty beginning new tasks, blame, guilt, concern for safety, depression, inability to trust (especially those in power), fear of risk taking, disturbed sleep, eroded self esteem/confidence, inability to concentrate, or panic attacks (Mojab and McDonald 2001). Some people may manifest no symptoms; at the other end of the spectrum is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, characterized by flashbacks, avoidance, numbing of responsiveness (including substance abuse), persistent expectation of danger, constriction (dissociation, zoning out), and memory impairment (Isserlis 2001). It may not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A number of authors urge reframing of these discourses: Instead of diagnosing and treating victims, find ways to make the learning environment safer for everyone (Horsman 1997). Recognize the role of power in limiting individual agency and choice and the ways in which institutions make personal and structural violence possible and legitimize it (Pearce 1999). Acknowledge the hidden learning that occurs through traumatic experiences (Horsman 2000b; Williamson 2000). What is learned from trauma and how might educators respond? Studies of people enduring extreme situations suggest that learning is a key to survival in adversity (Williamson 2000). Successful learning is supposed to occur when conditions are right: accessible opportunities, time, appropriate support, safety, motivation, risks with manageable consequences (ibid.). Yet in extreme situations, learning must take place quickly and without the right conditions. What is learned in response to trauma is influenced by prior knowledge, background, familial and social relationships, and personal qualities and abilities (Pearce 1999; Williamson 2000). This is not to blame the victim for inappropriate learning or responses, but to underscore the importance of resources and support and the recognition that learning has to be geared to meet a range of individual needs. Some of the hidden learning from trauma includes the following: All or nothing reactions such as shifting between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s not that I don t like her, but I always thought, ever since I was a very young child, that she was a fairytale character and a very scary one, to be sure! I remember, when I was reading ancient Russian tales, the depiction of a horrid woman with a bent nose, the most terrifying house and a screech to take away the courage of the bravest person who had ever roamed the Earth. So, finding out that Baba Yaga was not a fairytale character, but a Goddess, made me feel both cheated and elated. Those three children were also representative of her own nature: she is capable of giving, with care, existence to Light, something that might seem strange, from one who seems to have nothing in her but harshness. This, however, makes it evident that she is a Crone Goddess, and that it is because of this that the passage to the stage of Life (with all that it has within) is possible. Some sources even say that she keeps the waters of life and death . I think this might be true, for Baba Yaga is always making sure that we die and that we relive: she sees that we let behind those things that are dragging us down or that are giving us pain and then lets us drink the water we need, she gives us what we actually needed to grow up and to go on with our lives. She also had around her some invisible servants, who did the housework that she didn t feel like doing and who made her biding. Some say that these servants are representative of the elementals and of her rule over them. It might be so, as it was also said that she controlled everything around her (even natural ... • 4. Conversion Of Sto Analysis Conversion of St. Paul (or The Road to Damascus ) was painted by Italian Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio for the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. It tells the story of St. Paul conversion. As we know from the bible, and St. Paul s letters, Saul (St. Paul) was on his way to Damascus to prosecute Christians when he was blinded by light/ spirit from heaven. He fell to the ground, and the spirit asked him: Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? (Acts 9: 1 6). Conversion of St. Paul took place in noon and on the desert so it must have been really bright and sunny, but on Caravaggio s painting we see different scene. Background is dark, as if the event took place at night. Caravaggio uses chiaroscuro to emphasize St. Paul ecstasy. The servant and the horse are plunged in darkness. The artist wanted to get the feeling of contrast between light from the sky and ordinary background, which is dark. Caravaggio gave up painting God and angels instead he painted presence of God in divine light. There is a dramatic contrast between supernatural light and ordinary darkness. Paul young, beautiful and ecstatic persona is countered with very realistic image of a servant and a horse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Classes are not too bad either, and reports are right around the corner. On Monday your teacher pulls you aside and lets you know that if you do not get at least an eighty on this next test you will not do well in the class. Not only do you have other work due for school, but you have a job, field hockey and only two days left to study and really understand the material. This is currently the issue with test, teachers are using them as end point grades. This means they use them to see how much someone knows. Hence, using tests as final scoring of what they have learned. In reality test should be used to help guide teaching. As a teacher we should realize that test grades are affected by a lot of outside sources and are not always reliable. Test should be used to help guide the way teachers help their students learn, not used to measure what a student already knows. To lay a foundation for why tests should not be used to measure how much students know, but rather used as a guide for what teachers should teach we will look at the reliability of test. There are many factors that come into play when we are talking about test reliability, one being that there is not real feedback when it comes to tests. Leading Shiite Ideologies, Questions and Answers Questions: Briefly identify the main features of the 3 main variations among the leading Shiite ideologies with regard to Iranian culture and the Shah s regime? What were the main issues Ayatollah Khomeini had with the Shah s regime? Answer: The Iranian revolution was an ideological affair. With different visions for the future of Iran, the revolutionaries were united for toppling the monarchy, which they had substantially. All the visions of these revolutionary, however, were colored by ideology. Ayatollah Khomeini was the leader of that Iranian revolution against the shah. Khomeini marched with Shi ite (Shiyah) Ideology to denounce the Shahs and created a negative impression among the Iranian People against the Shah s regime. The Shi ite Ideologies were based on Islamic shariah, The Iranian culture was based on Islamic culture with an increasing influence of western culture and the shah s regime was friendly with the western culture policies and mostly against the Shi ite Islamic fundamentalism. The second difference was, shi ite (shiyah) ideology doesn t support the monarchy or imperialism in Islamic countries, the Iranian culture in that time were divided in their ideology in between shi ite (Shiyah) and shahs, and the shah s regime was totally a monarchy and supported by the US and western policy makers. In red dog, the scene where john dies depicts a huge loss for the people around him, strengthening the theme of change portrayed to the audience. Vanno, Red Dog (2011) Noooo! . We see that Vanno is obviously affected by the loss of john, after his motorcycle ran off the road, signifying a huge change to Vanno s life, and the people around him, especially Nancy. But the blitz truck was gone and the tractor, too. The Turning (2004). Loss is depicted when Melanie leaves the beach campsite to go back to the farm with her family. The audience sees a change in Billy s attitude, it changes the way he thinks, and impacts the rest of the story. The authors of the two texts use specific language to better portray the theme of loss. Not only in dialog, but visually. An example of this would be the death of red dog. The audience sees the effect of the passing of red dog, as they are all depressed and emotional. You re home now boy Nancy, Red Dog (2011), the audience sees the effect of losing Red Dog in Nancy s voice, a specific language that Kriv Standers used to portray a more powerful meaning of change to the audience, using the theme of loss to strengthen this idea. This idea is further strengthened by the use of context, as Dampier is a small town with a tight community, the loss of a character will cause a huge change to the story, and we see this in Red Dog and The Turning. In The Turning and Red Dog, the theme of loyalty is an idea that is used to shape meaning on the idea of change to create meaning and shape the audience s response, using specific language and context, these themes and ideas can be better suited to create meaning. The Turning by Tim Winton uses the theme of loyalty quite extensively in the first story. • 11. A Western Hero in Shane Essay A Western Hero in Shane The western genre plays an important part in the mythologising of American history. The way the western genre and particularly the western hero are put across in such films as Shane, are most likely not how real life in the 1880s was. In Shane the hero arrived on horseback, he was confident, handsome and managed to charm the female character, Marion, almost immediately. Typically, throughout the film the mysterious gunslinger was wearing a cowboy hat and a holster around his waist. His clean cut, masculine looks give an initial impression that Shane was to be the protagonist of the story. In reality, 1880s men were likely to be sexist or cruel, however this is not ... The shot looks almost picturesque as Joey watches Shane through the Deer s antlers. Shane arrives at the family s log cabin, still on horseback; he talks with the family. The shot is a close up of Shane, however the difference in levels appears to give Shane authority over them, which is how he is perceived throughout the film. He smiles at Joey and compliments him on his attentiveness, You were watching me down the trail quite a spell, weren t ya?...Y know…I like a man who watches things going on around, means he ll make his mark someday. This is the moment we first recognise that Shane has an able way with children and from here he builds a good friendship with Joey. Similar to the last, the next is a low angle shot looking up at Shane, giving him the higher status in this scene. This time attention is drawn to the clouds behind, which makes him appear almost ... Many would agree that the ending of the story was a shocker and few expected that conclusion. They would agree that the father in law proceeding with the funeral arrangements supporting the assumption the deceased person in the coffin was Edmund because he had the locket around his neck played into the authors plot twist. People would also say that the end of the story was intriguing, especially when Octavia opened the letter from the priest, returning her locket to her expressing his sorrow of the death of her husband Edmund. Only to find out at the very end Edmund was not dead and he was waiting for her at the door. In the conclusion of the story, many would say they didn t really know what was going to happen in the end of the book. Chaplain threw a curve ball and surprised all at the ending of the story. The writer did a very good job of confusing readers that the man at the campfire that died was Edmund. The experiences I have been through, from elementary school to high school, have opened my eyes to the different types of education different schools have to offer. The schools that I have been to have required me to go through change that takes time. I have always been considerate of class because the schools that I have been to include students from all social classes. I keep this in mind when I try to connect with other students. I try to make myself more approachable and productive with them, because there are certain conflicts that may make it difficult to successfully communicate with them. This has also interfered with my actual education as well, because I need to be considerate of my teachers as well. Class within education brings in many factors that put us within a group of individuals that may have a different experience with education compared to other of different classes. I attended Paramus Catholic high school, and the change from elementary school was very dramatic. This high school had about 1500 students when I joined, so making new friends was quite difficult. I was told that everyone at my school was friendly, but I didn t believe it. I saw students from all different towns and all different social classes. I needed to make friends who I could relate to, because there were simply too many students in my school to become companions with. My first approach was to find other students of the same race as me, Filipino. The first two friends I made in high school were both Filipino, and it was easy to converse with them. After talking to them for a few days, I learned that one of them was in the working class, and the other was very wealthy. I assumed that becoming friends with them was only easy because we could connect through our backgrounds, and the idea of class division still frightened me. Afraid of making new friends, I took on the challenges of high school on my own, with no help from any of my classmates. I felt that I could be independent, especially after my parents told me to put school before friends. As a result, I stayed up late at night trying to learn all the material ... • 19. The Issue Of A Child s Life On My Intersex Child In society today, people are always told what gender to be. For example, if a masculine man wants to wear a dress, he will be shunned from society because dresses are for girls therefore he shouldn t be wearing one. Now for an intersex baby , the doctors practically decide for the child what sex they want the baby to be. Doctors will make up lies and tell the parents that it is necessary for to have surgery because of the baby s health but that s a huge fallacy. If given the opportunity to choose the gender on my intersex child, I would oppose toward the surgery of modifying his or her sex. I may not be conforming with the social norm, but I also strongly believe that my child should make the choice of what gender they want to be when they are older. Intersex babies nowadays are being decided what sex they will be according to what the doctor prefers. Parents are being told that their babies have to have surgery because if not, then they may become sick in the long run. This is absolutely not true. That so called sickness that doctors refer to is just a matter of being able to fit into society. For example, in Dueling Dualisms by Fausto sterling, she argues that the issue is that because one is born a certain sex that that s the gender role they are suppose to play in society. She writes that what is at issue is the embodied nature of identities and experience. Experience is not individual and fixed, but irredeemably social and processual. With this being said, as a ... HEALTH EFFECTS OF HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING ON TYPE 2 DIABETES Many people suffer from type 2 diabetes, a type of metabolic disease (Curry et al., 2015; Hawley Gibala, 2012). The prevalence of this disease has been increasing; one reason for this increase could be increased consumption of food as well as decreased prevalence of physical activity (Hawley Gibala, 2012). Patients with type 2 diabetes are not able to metabolise glucose properly (Curry et al., 2015). Type 2 diabetes can cause patients to be very thirsty, excessively weary, and to experience a broad variety of other symptoms (Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). It is often treated with insulin in order to help the body metabolise glucose (Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). However, taking insulin can result in weight gain (Tovi Engfeldt, 1998). Fat of the abdomen can be an indicator of the likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease in an individual with type 2 diabetes, which is heavily correlated with type 2 diabetes (Siren, Eriksson, Vanhanen, 2012). In terms of lifestyle choices, type 2 diabetes patients are often told to focus on diet, but are also encouraged to increase frequency of physical activity (Alvarez et al., 2016; Hawley Gibala, 2012). The Blarney stone is very special because over 200 years people have climbed the castle to the top to kiss the stone and gain the gift of eloquence. This place had many other things like the The Rock Close and Water Garden, The Poison Garden, Arboretums, The Fern Garden, The Arboretums, and The Woodland and Riverside Walks. Political Deadlocks Between Canada And Canada Political Deadlock: In 1841 Britain declared in the Act of the Union that both East West Canada would have equal representation in the elected assembly of the Province of Canada. Britain made this decision because Canada East outnumbered Canada West in terms of population. The guarantee of equal representation was supposed to allay Canada West s fear of domination by French Catholics. However, it instead led to political deadlock. A political deadlock is when the tho sides of government bock each other from advancing any sort of agenda. When the Confederate states lost the war, the British North American colonies feared that the Union states would seek revenge on Britain by overtaking its colonies. Around the same time, the doctrine of Manifest Destiny rapidly gained popularity throughout America. This was, and arguably still is, a widely held belief that America and its settlers were destined to expand across North America. • 28. Berger Family Encounters In Awake And Sing The struggle the Berger family encounters in Awake and Sing is clearly evident by the setting Clifford Odets sets up for his audience. Throughout the opening pages of the play, particularly in this excerpt, the dialogue is chalk full with literary elements of mood, tone, and imagery. These three elements each complement each other as they all provide the play with a dark, depressing, and somber overtone. Not only does Odets provide the reader with textual and linguistic setting elements, but the physical setting portrays a gloomy atmosphere as well. The play takes place in an apartment in the Bronx, New York City during the Great Depression. Already, the time period of the play, in addition to the apartment being in the poverty stricken neighborhood of the Bronx gives context to how hard it is for the Berger ... Ralph takes off his rose colored glasses and becomes less optimistic when he questions life by saying, What s it for? (Odets, 42). The audience now sees a man struggling with his identity and purpose. Ralph s words set a strong, dark, and continuous tone for the play that serves to encompass his entire family. Ralph continues to focus on his working career and how he still cannot seem to provide the little things in life that he desires. The reader is confronted with imagery that explains the reality of the Berger s situation through the eyes of Ralph. • 29. English Reformation Dbq Essay Among the many religious changes that occurred throughout Europe in the sixteenth century, few were as widely influential as the Reformation. There were three streams of the Reformation: the common class, the educated middle class, and the monarchs and princes. All three streams wanted the church to be fixed and hoped it could combine old ideas and new ones. The Reformation was influenced by many different people, yet the most important was John Wyclif, who stated that the church did not need possession in order to be powerful. Different ideologies came from the influences of Wyclif, and many others. • 31. Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. • 32. Methods Of Learning Algorithms For Groups Based On Their... 2.1.3 CLUSTERING: Among the available clustering methods, K Means algorithm is generally used to divide learners into natural groups based on their behavior for a larger dataset. In the K Means clustering method, the number of clusters, denoted by K is needed to be predefined to apply the technique. This is one of the simplest and the most used unsupervised learning algorithm for clustering. The procedure follows a simple and easy way to classify a given data set through a certain number of clusters (assume k clusters) fixed a priori. The main idea is to define k centers, one for each cluster. These centers should be placed in a cunning way because of different location causes different result. So, the better choice is to place them as much as possible far away from each other. The next step is to take each point belonging to a given data set and associate it to the nearest center. When no point is pending, the first step is completed and an early group age is done. At this point we need to re calculate k new centroids as barycenter of the clusters resulting from the previous step. After we have these k new centroids, a new binding has to be done between the same data set points and the nearest new center. A loop has been generated. As a result of this loop we may notice that the k centers change their location step by step until no more changes are done or in other words centers do not move any more. Finally, this algorithm aims at minimizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article explores the medical world through the medical expenses incurred by a 64 year old Janice S., Sean Recchi, A 42 year old from Lancaster, Ohio and several other egregiously billed patients. The article poses the question: why exactly are the medical bills so high; in particular hospital bills? As it relates to the textbook, this describes some of the scope of the hospitals; which refers to the range of activities which the firm performs internally, the breadth of its product and service offerings, the extent of its geographic market and its mix of businesses. But unlike with the electric company, no regulator caps hospital profits. To the extent that author Steven Brill found any consistency among hospital charge master practices, this is one of them: hospitals routinely seem to charge 2V2 times what expensive implantable devices cost them, which produces that 150% profit margin. Besides, studies delving into the economics of the medical marketplace consistently find that a moderately higher or lower price doesn t change consumer purchasing decisions much, if at all, because in health care there is little of the price sensitivity found in conventional marketplaces, even on the rare occasion that patients know the cost in advance. Most hospital administrators defend such chargemaster rates at all, they maintain that they are just starting points for a negotiation. But patients don t typically know they are in a negotiation when they enter the hospital, nor do hospitals let them know that. Millions of insurance plans have annual payout limits, though the more typical plans purchased by employers usually set those limits at $500,000 or $750,000 which can also quickly be consumed by a catastrophic illness. ... The Oppression Of Motherhood When will you have a child? is a question often heard by women nearing a certain age, or upon achieving certain milestones in her life (such as marriage or after her 30th birthday). While it may be true that women are indeed the only ones with the ability to bear children, having a child is portrayed as a woman s right of passage. Individuals frequently overstep boundaries of privacy and inquire insensitively about a woman s personal plan for children, and the male glorifying society is to be blamed for this prying and expectation. Due to the fact that motherhood in general is largely linked to women s subordination to men, voluntary alternate decisions are subject to public criticism for violating the dominant norm. • 36. Persuasive Essay On The Right To Privacy According to Merriam Webster dictionary, privacy is the quality or state of being apart from company or observation, moreover, it is the freedom from unauthorized intrusion. In 1776, John Adams wrote that it had been the British right to search houses without justification that sparked the fight for independence. In other words, John Adams thought that it was an unjustified violation of privacy which kindled one of history s most noteworthy revolutions. Despite the fact that nowhere in the U. S. Constitution does it express the right to privacy, today, the debate and controversy surrounding the right to privacy are debated endlessly. Privacy s definition has never changed, however, its meaning continues to evolve. Today, acts of terrorism, unjust searches, and mass surveillance influence privacy s definition and the regulation of collection, access, and use of personal information by private and public actors. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that the privacy standards serve to guarantee freedom and autonomy rather than unduly restricting it. Today s debate on privacy is much different than during the founding of independence while the concern and controversy are comparable. The concept of privacy innately spawns from many early writings firstly in the writings of Aristotle, in which he distinctly defines the differences between the public sphere of politics and political activity, the Polis, and the private or domestic sphere of the family, known as the Oikos.
