Production Reflection
Jude McMichan
Week 1 – Case Study and Initial Plans
• In the first week of our video game rotation, I completed a case study PowerPoint which included information on some the biggest games
across all gaming consoles.
• The reason we were told to do a case study on different games was to hopefully take some inspiration and insight on what it included and use it
in our own video games.
• The games that I completed a case study on were FIFA 18 and Pro Evolution 18. The reason I chose these two games were because they are the
two biggest football games currently so I used this case study to break down everything that made it so popular amongst gamers.
• The case study included information on audio, sound effects, gaming engines and graphics. Once I had gathered information on all these
features I used it to help create my game. So overall the case study slide was very important as it helped me going forwards and also helped me
in my final production.
• The second PowerPoint I completed was my initial plans. My initial ideas included information on what I plan to do for my final production, such
as mind maps, mood boards and schedule list.
• My mind map included information on different genres of games. This included a few ideas on horror games and of course I section on ideas for
a football game.
• Once I had completed my mind map I then created a mood board which I found by taking information off my mind map. The mind map included
photos from FIFA 18, Pro Evolution 18, Soccer heads and it also included the PlayStation and Xbox logos as it all links together with these
photos, as stated in my mood board analysis.
• After my mood board I had a table that I had to complete which was basically a schedule that gave an insight on individual PowerPoint slides
that I had completed pre-production.
• Overall my initial ideas PowerPoint was very important as it confirmed my final decision on what game I will be created whilst also giving the
first bit of information on what my game might include, which can be seen on my mood board and mind map.
Week 2 – Existing Products
• In my 3rd PowerPoint I analysed existing products that I thought were similar to my own, so this basically just
included games that I have already previously analysed such as FIFA 18, Pro Evolution 18 and Soccer Heads.
• When evaluating these games I took a close look at their graphics, their gaming engines and even some of the
soundtracks that they use and how all these have progressed over the last 10 years.
• After I had completed this I then made a questionnaire for several class members to answer. The questions were
on what I intended to include in my work and I asked how they felt on my ideas. Thankfully my answers were
very positive and gave me lots of confidence going forwards with my game.
• Overall I thought this PowerPoint was very helpful as by evaluating other games I got an insight on what even
the best games have room for improvement on, so I could then apply it to my own work. I also gained lots of
confidence through my questionnaire results as stated earlier.
Week 3 – Production Experiments
• My PowerPoint on my experiments gave a brief overview of what applications I used whilst creating my video game. This included what I used to
create my Pixel animation and also what I used to apply audio and sound effects.
• The first and most important application I used was Photoshop. Photoshop helped me place together all my pixel work and also helped me create
my video showing my gameplay as I used a timeline to do so.
• After I had completed my video animation I then transported my video to premiere so that I could apply sound effects and music to my video.
• So I then went onto Garage Band and created a suitable song for my game and then transported it over to premiere. I also used sounds effects
through the use of YouTube and Beep Box.
• Overall this was very important because it helped me discover new ways of applying sound effects and music to my videos. It also helped me recap
on how to use both Premiere and Photoshop.
• In my final PowerPoint slide before starting production I had to include some final information to ensure I went into production fully prepared. My
final slide included music, sound effects and dialogue, contingency plan and a couple of screenshot layouts.
• The screenshot layouts was almost like a mood board, as it was just collecting images online and placing them together in a picture, however it
almost has to look like a layout of what your game could potentially look like. This gave me something to go off whilst creating my final production.
• After this I collected my sound effects, music and dialogue together so I knew what I was including and to also make sure I didn't’ forget anything.
These sound effects included the ball being kicked, the fans cheering and also some background music which were all included in my work.
• Finally I made a contingency plan in case anything went wrong throughout production, this included possibilities such as computer failure,
forgetting to save work or even copyright! But I ensured there was a way to push through these consequences if this did happen.
• Finally, I was also very happy that I completed this PowerPoint as it gave me great comfort going into my final production knowing I had a
contingency plan to fall back on. I also very useful as instead of consuming time looking for sound effects all I had to do was simply look at my pre-
production slide.
Week 4 – Final Production
• In my fourth week of production I started and finished my final production.
• I started the week off by creating some pixelated images that will be included in my game. This included a
menu screen, my gameplay scenery and my finishing screen, whilst also having to create characters and
objects such as football nets and footballs. I needed to create these separately due to them changing
location on the screen on different scenes.
• After I had finished created my pixelated characters I then I had to create a timeline for each scene so that
they could move from one place to another. This had to be done with the fans and my football players.
• After this I then transported the video over to Premiere so that I could apply sound to my video. So I then
went to garage band where I created my theme tune for my game. The theme tune is played throughout
the full video but slowly fades down when the gameplay is present.
• I also used YouTube and Beep Box to apply sounds to my work. I got a sound effect for a football being
kicked off Beep Box and the fans cheering off YouTube.
• After I had placed these sound effects onto my video it was finally time to upload my final production on
YouTube, think link can be found below :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMchY9S4vNc
Week 5 – Evaluation
• In my 5th week of my video game rotation I needed to finalize some features on my video game and then
finish my evaluation.
• I felt very comfortable whilst completing my evaluation as I had a clear idea on how I felt on what I had
produced on how planning before hand helped me create my game.
• We will not be attending college tomorrow as it is a teacher training day so it was important that I
completed all my theory work but most importantly my video game so that I could send It to Josh to
evaluate.
• Overall I believe this week has been very important as I completed another evaluation which will give me
good experience for future evaluations. It has also given me time to transport finished work over to Josh
and post on my blogger so I know what is and isn’t complete .

7. production reflection

  • 2. Week 1 – Case Study and Initial Plans • In the first week of our video game rotation, I completed a case study PowerPoint which included information on some the biggest games across all gaming consoles. • The reason we were told to do a case study on different games was to hopefully take some inspiration and insight on what it included and use it in our own video games. • The games that I completed a case study on were FIFA 18 and Pro Evolution 18. The reason I chose these two games were because they are the two biggest football games currently so I used this case study to break down everything that made it so popular amongst gamers. • The case study included information on audio, sound effects, gaming engines and graphics. Once I had gathered information on all these features I used it to help create my game. So overall the case study slide was very important as it helped me going forwards and also helped me in my final production. • The second PowerPoint I completed was my initial plans. My initial ideas included information on what I plan to do for my final production, such as mind maps, mood boards and schedule list. • My mind map included information on different genres of games. This included a few ideas on horror games and of course I section on ideas for a football game. • Once I had completed my mind map I then created a mood board which I found by taking information off my mind map. The mind map included photos from FIFA 18, Pro Evolution 18, Soccer heads and it also included the PlayStation and Xbox logos as it all links together with these photos, as stated in my mood board analysis. • After my mood board I had a table that I had to complete which was basically a schedule that gave an insight on individual PowerPoint slides that I had completed pre-production. • Overall my initial ideas PowerPoint was very important as it confirmed my final decision on what game I will be created whilst also giving the first bit of information on what my game might include, which can be seen on my mood board and mind map.
  • 3. Week 2 – Existing Products • In my 3rd PowerPoint I analysed existing products that I thought were similar to my own, so this basically just included games that I have already previously analysed such as FIFA 18, Pro Evolution 18 and Soccer Heads. • When evaluating these games I took a close look at their graphics, their gaming engines and even some of the soundtracks that they use and how all these have progressed over the last 10 years. • After I had completed this I then made a questionnaire for several class members to answer. The questions were on what I intended to include in my work and I asked how they felt on my ideas. Thankfully my answers were very positive and gave me lots of confidence going forwards with my game. • Overall I thought this PowerPoint was very helpful as by evaluating other games I got an insight on what even the best games have room for improvement on, so I could then apply it to my own work. I also gained lots of confidence through my questionnaire results as stated earlier.
  • 4. Week 3 – Production Experiments • My PowerPoint on my experiments gave a brief overview of what applications I used whilst creating my video game. This included what I used to create my Pixel animation and also what I used to apply audio and sound effects. • The first and most important application I used was Photoshop. Photoshop helped me place together all my pixel work and also helped me create my video showing my gameplay as I used a timeline to do so. • After I had completed my video animation I then transported my video to premiere so that I could apply sound effects and music to my video. • So I then went onto Garage Band and created a suitable song for my game and then transported it over to premiere. I also used sounds effects through the use of YouTube and Beep Box. • Overall this was very important because it helped me discover new ways of applying sound effects and music to my videos. It also helped me recap on how to use both Premiere and Photoshop. • In my final PowerPoint slide before starting production I had to include some final information to ensure I went into production fully prepared. My final slide included music, sound effects and dialogue, contingency plan and a couple of screenshot layouts. • The screenshot layouts was almost like a mood board, as it was just collecting images online and placing them together in a picture, however it almost has to look like a layout of what your game could potentially look like. This gave me something to go off whilst creating my final production. • After this I collected my sound effects, music and dialogue together so I knew what I was including and to also make sure I didn't’ forget anything. These sound effects included the ball being kicked, the fans cheering and also some background music which were all included in my work. • Finally I made a contingency plan in case anything went wrong throughout production, this included possibilities such as computer failure, forgetting to save work or even copyright! But I ensured there was a way to push through these consequences if this did happen. • Finally, I was also very happy that I completed this PowerPoint as it gave me great comfort going into my final production knowing I had a contingency plan to fall back on. I also very useful as instead of consuming time looking for sound effects all I had to do was simply look at my pre- production slide.
  • 5. Week 4 – Final Production • In my fourth week of production I started and finished my final production. • I started the week off by creating some pixelated images that will be included in my game. This included a menu screen, my gameplay scenery and my finishing screen, whilst also having to create characters and objects such as football nets and footballs. I needed to create these separately due to them changing location on the screen on different scenes. • After I had finished created my pixelated characters I then I had to create a timeline for each scene so that they could move from one place to another. This had to be done with the fans and my football players. • After this I then transported the video over to Premiere so that I could apply sound to my video. So I then went to garage band where I created my theme tune for my game. The theme tune is played throughout the full video but slowly fades down when the gameplay is present. • I also used YouTube and Beep Box to apply sounds to my work. I got a sound effect for a football being kicked off Beep Box and the fans cheering off YouTube. • After I had placed these sound effects onto my video it was finally time to upload my final production on YouTube, think link can be found below : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMchY9S4vNc
  • 6. Week 5 – Evaluation • In my 5th week of my video game rotation I needed to finalize some features on my video game and then finish my evaluation. • I felt very comfortable whilst completing my evaluation as I had a clear idea on how I felt on what I had produced on how planning before hand helped me create my game. • We will not be attending college tomorrow as it is a teacher training day so it was important that I completed all my theory work but most importantly my video game so that I could send It to Josh to evaluate. • Overall I believe this week has been very important as I completed another evaluation which will give me good experience for future evaluations. It has also given me time to transport finished work over to Josh and post on my blogger so I know what is and isn’t complete .
