The document summarizes Matthew-Burniston's evaluation of research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aesthetic qualities, and intended audience for a magazine project. For research, three magazine covers and spreads were analyzed to understand color schemes, fonts, photography, and intended audience. Planning involved creating mind maps of magazine ideas and researching examples. Time management strengths included staying on top of work, while weaknesses was a lack of motivation. Technical and aesthetic qualities of the magazine design were evaluated, noting similarities and differences to examples. The intended audience was identified as artists, nerds, primarily male aged 15-24 and 30+, from middle-class backgrounds interested in improving art and design skills.

2. Research
To do my research, we researched three separate magazine covers and
double page spread – from a magazine of our choosing; then broke down the
colour schemes, fonts and texts, photography/pictures and got an image of
what who we'd assume our audience to be.
The qualative propities of the research I did was was to a decent standard as I
didn't really get to know my audience as well as I should of – primarily
ofcusiing on the research of the magazine.
3. Planning
We started off our planning by brainstorming three mind maps (for our
potentially magazine idea,) then finally mapping out the third into a full
blown idea – talking through colour schemes, fonts, our target audience,
genre/type of magazine and the contents.
On top of this, I looked at other examples of existing magazines and
breakdown running themes to there brand and the running theme as whole;
whilst analysing the colours schemes, font, images, running themes, etc...
4. Time Management
Strengths:
• To keep on top of my work, I took a lot of my work to prevent me from
falling behind.
• Depending on what the work was and what recourses I had to hand – I did
my work in certain places to stay efficient.
Weaknesses:
• During working, due to lack of motivation – I had to take a lot more work
home with me to finish off.
5. Technical Qualities
Similarities:
• The logo is in the background of the piece
– behind the characters.
• There is a list of articles down the side of
the of the page spread – using a variation
of two colours and two font sizes.
• They also use a colourful bit of artwork s
the main image.
Differences:
• They use fonts either of the page, whilst
also using a main title at the bottom of
the front cover.
• They don’t use a barcode on the front
page.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
Strengths:
• Overall I feel like I created a decent piece of artwork for my final cover –
with a good composition, contrast and colour.
• My artwork also display a good link between the artwork and the poster.
Weaknesses:
• Despite feeling quite positively about my artwork – I feel like it lacks in my
some qualities, providing some empty spaces.
7. Audience Appeal
My audience will be a range of artists and nerds – as I’ll be showcasing and breaking down a lot of fan made
artwork I’ve made (e.g. - the artwork's theme will appeal to nerds and fans of that theme, whilst the
artwork break downs and the general style of the piece will appeal to the artists.)
Male – As this will a magazine directed at the fan art I've created – with a lot the topics being stereotypically
aimed more at a more male based audience, my magazine will likely appeal a lot more to that same male
audience.
Primary Age (15 to 24) - As most of this range will be students – the educational side to this (e.g. the
breakdown of the artwork and the photoshop skills being taught,) as it would help further their skill if they
are either currently studying or looking to study this area.
Secondary (30+) - As stereotypically, the older generations aren’t as good with technology this would be able to
provide some education to them in the terms of graphic design – and magazines may be a lot more
familiar to them than watching a video on something such as YouTube.
B Middle Class – As this will be an internet available magazine, the audience will only need a device with access
to the internet to view it – meaning they’ll be able to afford the magazine (as it’s free...)
Achiever– The educational side to my magazine will appeal to the achieving sides as it would be implied, they
have a set goal of wanting to achieve at creating their own artwork or mastering new skills within
Photoshop...
