Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
• My idea is slightly different to other magazines, however I got most of my
ideas, how to set each page out, font and colours from looking at other
magazines on the internet or in shops (Tesco’s, Morrison and the local post
office). Such as my contents page is similar to one which I found on the
internet, while my double page spread is similar to a double page spread in
Nuts magazine, which I thought was a good way to set it out.
Jacob Burman
3. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
• My media product focuses mostly on the rock music genre, due to the fact
that I prefer rock over most other music. This had a major effect on my
ideas and where/why my inspiration came from. I personally think that it
targets more of the rock/heavy music lovers due to colours, fonts and the
double page spread as the main figure head is meant to be a typical rock
head, with the long hair, guitars and his answers to some of the questions.
Even the title “Rockstar” is a major hint to what type of music magazine it
is.
Jacob Burman
4. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
• To distribute my magazine I would contact some magazine agents such as
Bauer Media which produce a wide range of magazine in the United
Kingdom. Bauer media distribute a wide range of magazines, including
Heat magazine, Zoo, FHM, Kerrang, Empire and loads of other. This is
good due to them distributing Kerrang, Magic, Planet Rock and other
music magazines as mine would fit in with the music style and “vibe” of
their articles.
Jacob Burman
5. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
• The audience would be teens or adults who are interested
in rock/heavy music which hints of classic tunes (which
attracts the older readers). This is because of the genre
the magazine is and some text/colours (Bold, black/white
writing with hints of Yellow and blues to make parts stand
out more than others). Also with the other artists
mentioned on the Contents page are known in rock (Chad
Kroger, Linkin Park) and rap (Eminem) which are pretty
big or well-known in the music industry.
Jacob Burman
6. How did you attract/address your
audience?
• With the music magazine I would attract the audience by putting articles
which the audience wants to read and know about, also there would be
interviews with both old and upcoming stars, so it doesn’t seem the same
week in week out. Also the magazine would be out every two weeks, so it
doesn’t seem reoccurring and have to repeat itself. Also it would attract them
by either the main headliner and (if any) the instrument on the front cover.
Jacob Burman
7. What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
• Over the last couple of months I have learnt many different ways to
design, attract and distribute a magazine. I have learnt many different
skills on Photoshop, such as merging two images ( Right and left page of
my article) together, I also found out how to cut a letter to rotate on a
“learn Photoshop day”. I thing Photoshop is a lot more advanced
compared to pain which I used to us due to me not understanding
Photoshop.
• I also used ways to fix an image so it doesn’t stretch to “mess up” the
image. I also over came my front drama as I was unsure on what font I
was going to use so it didn’t seem bland and all the same.
Jacob Burman
8. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression from
it to the full product?
• Compared to my college magazine I used a wider range of skill and
equipment, such as when I was taking pictures for my college mag, I used
my Ipad to take the photo and they were out in the open around the
college campus. However when I did my music mag, I used a professional
camera in a studio with props that we brought in. I also used more and
better fonts on the music mag compared to the two or three I used in my
college one. Also I did more research on the music mag, such as looking at
other music magazines and looking on websites, while with the college
magazine I just expanded from my idea at the start.
