Contributors approach the various situations in their life and workplace with a unique
mindset. This mindset we call, the ‘Contributor Mindset’.
The first aspect of the Contributor Mindset is the Contributor’s willingness and
capacity to find solutions.
When faced with a challenge, the Contributor’s first response is : “Can we find a
solution?” This is unlike a Non-contributor who may respond to the challenge by
trying a little and giving up, blaming others, or finding excuses to cover up the issue.
But this is not all. The Contributor also finds a solution. In other words, the
Contributor develops the capacity to find solutions through continuous practice and
learning from other Contributors.
Thus Contributor see solution not problems whereas Non-contributor see problems
not solution.
Non-contributors are often “rigid” about the procedure or their own way of doing
things instead of focusing on the goal.
Non-contributor only follows the rules and set procedures given to him. So when
situations come up that are different from the usual, he is unable to handle them, does
not know what to do and refuses to do anything about them.
He does not care whether the goal is met or not – as long as he is safely within the
rules.
Non-contributors strictly follow the procedure and rules whether the goal is met
within a time or not.

Contributors are focused on goals and find appropriate methods to achieve them
within the framework of the system.
Contributor is focused on the goal that needs to be achieved in the situation and he
wants to achieve that goal. So he takes the effort to find an appropriate way to achieve
that goal without breaking the rules.
Let us find a
way to
achieve the
goal
Few doctors tell their patients that he/she will start the treatment after he feels the
form even during emergency.
On the other hand some doctors will request their patients that while he starts
treatment meanwhile they should fill up the form and other formalities.

Non-contributors do not consider new possibilities in their thinking.
Non-contributor sees only the obvious or known options that are regularly being used
by him and others. Even if someone else comes up with a new alternative, he does not
want to consider it. Result - his advice to clients is limited and does not fully meet
their needs.
Contributors consider new / alternate possibilities in their thinking.
Contributor looks for alternatives, generates and tries out unusual ideas, goes deeper
to innovate and find a completely different solution that is “right” for the case in hand.
As a result – his clients are happy with his advice because it perfectly matches their
needs.
“The airplane stays up in the air because it doesn’t have the time to fall…”
When the world was thinking of ways to speed up travel on land and water , they
came up with a completely new idea of travel by Air…!!!

Suppose a manager of LIC asks his agents to complete 50 policies in 10 days.
Then Non-contributor agent will say at a first instant that no it is not possible. Even
without trying he gives up and creates a negative atmosphere and demotivate his
group members.
On the contrary Contributor agent may accept the challenge and find a way to
complete his challenge within a time. This will create a positive atmosphere and
motivate his group members.
Non-contributors fear failure. For them, life is about safety and protecting themselves.
Non-contributor is afraid of taking up any new decision because of the risks involved.
Thus he ends up being too conservative in his business decisions and his business
does not grow.

Contributors overcome their fear of failure. For them, life is an adventure and full of
challenges.
Contributor actively reduces the risks involved in any new business by experimenting
and trying out on a small scale – then if it works, he takes it to a larger scale; if it
doesn’t work, he either improves and retries or he learns from the mistakes to move
on. Thus his business keeps growing.

7. DESIGN SOLUTION (CPD) 2990001 GTU

  • 1. 1 PREPARED BY : ASST. PROF. VATSAL D. PATEL MAHATMA GANDHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH CENTRE, NAVSARI.
  • 2. Contributors approach the various situations in their life and workplace with a unique mindset. This mindset we call, the ‘Contributor Mindset’. The first aspect of the Contributor Mindset is the Contributor’s willingness and capacity to find solutions. When faced with a challenge, the Contributor’s first response is : “Can we find a solution?” This is unlike a Non-contributor who may respond to the challenge by trying a little and giving up, blaming others, or finding excuses to cover up the issue.
  • 3. But this is not all. The Contributor also finds a solution. In other words, the Contributor develops the capacity to find solutions through continuous practice and learning from other Contributors. Thus Contributor see solution not problems whereas Non-contributor see problems not solution.
  • 4. Non-contributors are often “rigid” about the procedure or their own way of doing things instead of focusing on the goal. Non-contributor only follows the rules and set procedures given to him. So when situations come up that are different from the usual, he is unable to handle them, does not know what to do and refuses to do anything about them.
  • 5. He does not care whether the goal is met or not – as long as he is safely within the rules. Non-contributors strictly follow the procedure and rules whether the goal is met within a time or not. Follow the strict procedure
  • 6. Contributors are focused on goals and find appropriate methods to achieve them within the framework of the system. Contributor is focused on the goal that needs to be achieved in the situation and he wants to achieve that goal. So he takes the effort to find an appropriate way to achieve that goal without breaking the rules. Let us find a way to achieve the goal
  • 7. Few doctors tell their patients that he/she will start the treatment after he feels the form even during emergency. On the other hand some doctors will request their patients that while he starts treatment meanwhile they should fill up the form and other formalities.

  • 9. Non-contributors do not consider new possibilities in their thinking. Non-contributor sees only the obvious or known options that are regularly being used by him and others. Even if someone else comes up with a new alternative, he does not want to consider it. Result - his advice to clients is limited and does not fully meet their needs.
  • 10. Contributors consider new / alternate possibilities in their thinking. Contributor looks for alternatives, generates and tries out unusual ideas, goes deeper to innovate and find a completely different solution that is “right” for the case in hand. As a result – his clients are happy with his advice because it perfectly matches their needs.
  • 11. “The airplane stays up in the air because it doesn’t have the time to fall…” When the world was thinking of ways to speed up travel on land and water , they came up with a completely new idea of travel by Air…!!! Orville Wright Wilbur Wright
  • 12. Suppose a manager of LIC asks his agents to complete 50 policies in 10 days. Then Non-contributor agent will say at a first instant that no it is not possible. Even without trying he gives up and creates a negative atmosphere and demotivate his group members. On the contrary Contributor agent may accept the challenge and find a way to complete his challenge within a time. This will create a positive atmosphere and motivate his group members.
  • 13. Non-contributors fear failure. For them, life is about safety and protecting themselves. Non-contributor is afraid of taking up any new decision because of the risks involved. Thus he ends up being too conservative in his business decisions and his business does not grow. I will lose confidence What will happen to my image?
  • 14. Contributors overcome their fear of failure. For them, life is an adventure and full of challenges. Contributor actively reduces the risks involved in any new business by experimenting and trying out on a small scale – then if it works, he takes it to a larger scale; if it doesn’t work, he either improves and retries or he learns from the mistakes to move on. Thus his business keeps growing. Failure will become stepping stone of success This experience will help us to improve the project
