This thesis investigates model driven software development (MDSD) approach as a tool for contextual adaption of ubiquitous systems. Ubiquitous Systems (i.e. the embedded devices) are subject to changes that affect the execution of software. The systems are very heterogeneous and and the designer has to take a diverse set of plattforms and ressource constrained hardware into consideration.
By implementing a model driven development techniques for core problems of ubiquitous computing, namely distributed execution and heterogeneous communication in ubiquitous systems the work demonstrates that Model Driven Software Development of Ubiquitous Systems maybe used to solve the inherent contradiction between top-down and bottom-up development of networked embedded systems.

via wireless communication. The majority users in a mobile
environment are moving and accessing wireless services for
the activities they are currently unavailable inside. We
propose the idea of complex activity for characterizing the
continuously changing complex behavior patterns of mobile
users. For the purpose of data management, a complex activity
is copy as a sequence of location movement, service requests,
the coincidence of location and service, or the interleaving of
all above. An activity may be composed of sub activities.
Different activities may exhibit dependencies that affect user
behaviors. We argue that the complex activity concept provides
a more specific, rich, and detail description of user behavioral
patterns which are very useful for data management in mobile
environments. Correct exploration of user activities has the
possible of providing much higher quality and personalized
services to individual user at the right place on the right time.
We, therefore, propose new methods for complex activity
mining, incremental maintenance, online detection and
proactive data management based on user activities. In
particular, we develop pre-fetching and pushing techniques
with cost sensitive control to make easy analytical data
allocation. First round implementation and simulation results
shows that the proposed framework and techniques can
significantly increase local availability, conserve execution
cost, reduce response time, and improve cache utilization.

There has been a great interest recently in systems
that use graphics to aid in the programming, debugging, and
understanding of computer systems. The ‘’Visual
Programming’’ and ‘’Program Visualization’’ are exciting
areas of active computer science research that show promise
for improving the programming process, for this they have
been applied to these systems. This article attempts to provide
more meaning to these terms by giving precise definitions,
and then surveys a number of systems that can be classified as
providing Visual Programming or Program Visualization.
These systems are organized by classifying them into two
different taxonomies. The paper also gives a brief description
of our approach that concentrated on both Visual Programming
and Program Visualization for an Ideal Visual Software
Engineering System. We consider it as a new promising trend
in software engineering.

technology. Cloud service provider follows pay-as-you-go pricing approach which means consumer uses as
many resources as he need and billed by the provider based on the resource consumed. CSP give a quality of
service in the form of a service level agreement. For transparent billing, each billing transaction should be
protected against forgery and false modifications. Although CSPs provide service billing records, they cannot
provide trustworthiness. It is due to user or CSP can modify the billing records. In this case even a third party
cannot confirm that the user’s record is correct or CSPs record is correct. To overcome these limitations we
introduced a secure billing system called THEMIS. For secure billing system THEMIS introduces a concept of
cloud notary authority (CNA). CNA generates mutually verifiable binding information that can be used to
resolve future disputes between user and CSP. This project will produce the secure billing through monitoring
the service level agreement (SLA) by using the SMon module. CNA can get a service logs from SMon and stored
it in a local repository for further reference. Even administrator of a cloud system cannot modify or falsify the
data.

concern over data confidentiality, without considering the local infrastructure limitations, the cloud services allow the user to enjoy the
cloud applications. As the different users may be working in the collaborative relationship, the data sharing becomes significant to
achieve productive benefit during the data accessing. The existing security system only focuses on the authentication; it shows that
user’s private data cannot be accessed by the fake users. To address the above cloud storage privacy issue shared authority based
privacy-preserving authentication protocol is used. In the SAPA, the shared access authority is achieved by anonymous access request
and privacy consideration, attribute based access control allows the user to access their own data fields. To provide the data sharing
among the multiple users proxy re-encryption scheme is applied by the cloud server. The privacy-preserving data access authority
sharing is attractive for multi-user collaborative cloud applications.

In recent years, mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets empowered with tremendous
technological advancements. Augmenting the computing capability to the distant cloud help us
to envision a new computing era named as mobile cloud computing (MCC). However, distant
cloud has several limitations such as communication delay and bandwidth which brings the idea
of proximate cloud of cloudlet. Cloudlet has distinct advantages and is free from several
limitations of distant cloud. However, limited resources of cloudlet negatively impact the
cloudlet performance with the increasing number of substantial users. Hence, cloudlet is a
viable solution to augment the mobile device task to the nearest small scale cloud known as
cloudlet. However, this cloudlet resource is finite which in some point appear as resource
scarcity problem. In this paper, we analyse the cloudlet resource scarcity problem on overall
performance in the cloudlet for mobile cloud computing. In addition, for empirical analysis, we
make some definitions, assumptions and research boundaries. Moreover, we experimentally
examine the finite resource impact on cloudlet overall performance. By, empirical analysis, we
explicitly establish the research gap and present cloudlet finite resource problem in mobile
cloud computing. In this paper, we propose a Performance Enhancement Framework of
Cloudlet (PEFC) which enhances the finite resource cloudlet performance. Our aim is to
increase the cloudlet performance with this limited cloudlet resource and make the better user
experience for the cloudlet user in mobile cloud computing.

Cloud computing is an important transition that makes change in service oriented computing
technology. Cloud service provider follows pay-as-you-go pricing approach which means consumer uses as
many resources as he need and billed by the provider based on the resource consumed. CSP give a quality of
service in the form of a service level agreement. For transparent billing, each billing transaction should be
protected against forgery and false modifications. Although CSPs provide service billing records, they cannot
provide trustworthiness. It is due to user or CSP can modify the billing records. In this case even a third party
cannot confirm that the user’s record is correct or CSPs record is correct. To overcome these limitations we
introduced a secure billing system called THEMIS. For secure billing system THEMIS introduces a concept of
cloud notary authority (CNA). CNA generates mutually verifiable binding information that can be used to
resolve future disputes between user and CSP. This project will produce the secure billing through monitoring
the service level agreement (SLA) by using the SMon module. CNA can get a service logs from SMon and stored
it in a local repository for further reference. Even administrator of a cloud system cannot modify or falsify the
data.

concern over data confidentiality, without considering the local infrastructure limitations, the cloud services allow the user to enjoy the
cloud applications. As the different users may be working in the collaborative relationship, the data sharing becomes significant to
achieve productive benefit during the data accessing. The existing security system only focuses on the authentication; it shows that
user’s private data cannot be accessed by the fake users. To address the above cloud storage privacy issue shared authority based
privacy-preserving authentication protocol is used. In the SAPA, the shared access authority is achieved by anonymous access request
and privacy consideration, attribute based access control allows the user to access their own data fields. To provide the data sharing
among the multiple users proxy re-encryption scheme is applied by the cloud server. The privacy-preserving data access authority
sharing is attractive for multi-user collaborative cloud applications.

In recent years, mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets empowered with tremendous
technological advancements. Augmenting the computing capability to the distant cloud help us
to envision a new computing era named as mobile cloud computing (MCC). However, distant
cloud has several limitations such as communication delay and bandwidth which brings the idea
of proximate cloud of cloudlet. Cloudlet has distinct advantages and is free from several
limitations of distant cloud. However, limited resources of cloudlet negatively impact the
cloudlet performance with the increasing number of substantial users. Hence, cloudlet is a
viable solution to augment the mobile device task to the nearest small scale cloud known as
cloudlet. However, this cloudlet resource is finite which in some point appear as resource
scarcity problem. In this paper, we analyse the cloudlet resource scarcity problem on overall
performance in the cloudlet for mobile cloud computing. In addition, for empirical analysis, we
make some definitions, assumptions and research boundaries. Moreover, we experimentally
examine the finite resource impact on cloudlet overall performance. By, empirical analysis, we
explicitly establish the research gap and present cloudlet finite resource problem in mobile
cloud computing. In this paper, we propose a Performance Enhancement Framework of
Cloudlet (PEFC) which enhances the finite resource cloudlet performance. Our aim is to
increase the cloudlet performance with this limited cloudlet resource and make the better user
experience for the cloudlet user in mobile cloud computing.

Usability evaluation is a core usability activity that minimizes risks and improves product quality. The returns from usability evaluation are undeniable. Neglecting such evaluation at the development stage negatively affects software usability. In this paper, the authors develop a software management tool used to incorporate usability evaluation activities into the agile environment. Using this tool, agile development teams can manage a continuous evaluation process, tightly coupled with the development process, allowing them to develop high quality software products with adequate level of usability. The tool was evaluated through verification, followed by the validation on satisfaction. The evaluation results show that the tool increased software development practitioner satisfaction and is practical for supporting usability work in software projects.

Interactive systems are increasingly interconnected across different devices and platforms. The challenge for interaction designers is to meet the requirements of consistency and continuity across these platforms to ensure the inter-usability of the system. This presentation describes the current challenges the designers are facing in the emerging fields of interactive systems. Through semi-structured interviews of 17 professionals working on interaction design in different domains we probed into the current methodologies and the practical challenges in their daily tasks. The identified challenges include but are not limited to: the inefficiency of using low-fi prototypes in a lab environment to test inter-usability and the challenges of “seeing the big picture” when designing a part of an interconnected system.

In current software development lifecycles of heterogeneous environments, the pitfalls businesses have to face are that software defect tracking, measurements and quality assurance do not start early enough in the development process. In fact the cost of fixing a defect in a production environment is much higher than in the initial phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) which is particularly true for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Thus the aim of this study is to develop a new framework for defect tracking and detection and quality estimation for early stages particularly for the design stage of the SDLC. Part of the objectives of this work is to conceptualize, borrow and customize from known frameworks, such as object-oriented programming to build a solid framework using automated rule based intelligent mechanisms to detect and classify defects in software design of SOA. The implementation part demonstrated how the framework can predict the quality level of the designed software. The results showed a good level of quality estimation can be achieved based on the number of design attributes, the number of quality attributes and the number of SOA Design Defects. Assessment shows that metrics provide guidelines to indicate the progress that a software system has made and the quality of design. Using these guidelines, we can develop more usable and maintainable software systems to fulfill the demand of efficient systems for software applications. Another valuable result coming from this study is that developers are trying to keep backwards compatibility when they introduce new functionality. Sometimes, in the same newly-introduced elements developers perform necessary breaking changes in future versions. In that way they give time to their clients to adapt their systems. This is a very valuable practice for the developers because they have more time to assess the quality of their software before releasing it. Other improvements in this research include investigation of other design attributes and SOA Design Defects which can be computed in extending the tests we performed.

Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
