2. Style sheet
On my magazine cover and inside the double page spread I most likely will
include a shade of gold on the magazine. This is because gold is heavily linked
with rap , this will create a deeper meaning which a small majority of the
audience will get ,this meaning being that this is a rap magazine. I will also use
gold on my magazine cover because it stands out on the magazine. This is
important on a magazine cover because you want it to catch the audiences
attention so that they hopefully buy it. Hex code fdb309
On my magazine I will also most likely use a shade of red either inside or on the
double page spread. One reason why I might include this color is because is has male
connotations and I am aiming this magazine at the male demographic. I may also
choose to use this color because it has connotations such as blood , danger and
power all of which are linked heavily to rap music. The final reason I may chose to
include this color is because I feel that it is a unique color to have on a rap magazine
that information is only based on what I have seen. If the cover and the double page
spread look unique and a bit different it will draw attention to it. fb0007
I will use this blue color because it includes male connotations however it does
not target the male demographic as much as red or other colors. This blue color
suggests that this is a magazine that targets the male audience however does
appeal to women. I may also choose to include a shade of blue in my magazine
because I feel that it it used quite frequently on magazine covers. In the double
page spread I may choose to use this color to draw attention to a specific
heading.
3. This is not the name of my magazine
I chose these fonts because firstly I thought that they looked quite appealing and
also eye catchy. This is because of their boldness. The fonts I have chose also are
quite modern. This could imply that the music inside this magazine is new.
Another thing that pulled me in to choose these fonts was the face that they are
quite simplistic and easy to read. This is an important factor when it comes to a
magazine cover as you wan the audience to be able to clearly see the masthead
and for it also to be very readable. The third font down is a lot different to the
other 3 because this one is in a serif font , this makes this font look a lot more
traditional. That font is probably my least favorite due to it looking like
something as the masthead on a newspaper. The serif font makes this text look
more classy and looks like it is more suitable for the older demographic. The
other fonts are sans serif which basically means that they don’t have the little
flicks at the bottom. This makes the other fonts look more urban as well as
something you are likely to see on a magazine cover. The second font down is
fairly different to the other fonts because is is on a slant. This makes the font
look as if it is moving. I chose to include the text in capital letters because I feel
that this will grab the audiences attention , this is important when it comes to a
magazine cover as you want people to buy it.
4. When I include a main image on my magazine it is going to be off someone who is
pretending to be a rapper. This will mean that they will have to dress like them as well as
look like them. As you can see in these pictures they are all showing off either their
jewelry or a tattoo. This is because these things have connotations of wealth and power.
The rappers all look kind off miserable. I do not know why this is however most rappers
don’t smile often. This could be because they may feel that they have an image to keep
up. I may choose a stance like this one shown by lil Pump due to himself looking quite
powerful. The image its self is a medium long shot and looks like something that would
be used in a magazine. This is because I has a large amount of space above him which is
where the masthead could go and he is also perfectly central. The image also shows him
wearing a jumper which links to the color of his hair. This makes the image look tidy and
professional , this is also something that is often included in magazines. The image of
Travis Scott shows him performing. This type of image if used on a magazine cover will
indicate to the audience that this is a music magazine. The camera shot of this is a
medium close up. This camera shot shows the musician in a very clear way , this type of
shot would allow the audience to look and get familiar with the artist. This image also
shows the rapper wearing dark clothes which could reflect his personality and music. The
last image which is off drake is more of an album cover picture however this picture
could be used in the double page spread or possibly be a smaller image on my cover. This
image is again a medium close up and gives the audience a good view of his face as well
as his necklace. His necklace has been shown there to show how famous he is. In this
image he is wearing a white t-shirt which is different two the previous two , this could be
because they may have slightly different music styles or possibly might have very
different personalities.
5. Front Cover Layout
on my magazine cover I will include the conventions of a magazine cover.
These are things like a masthead , heading , text, barcode and stars and blobs.
At the top of my page I will probably include some sort of bar or tag line. This
will be something like ‘this is the number 1 music magazine in Britain’. I will
include this because I feel that it will then make up the audiences mind if they
want to buy it or not. This will be done because the audience will pick up the
magazine and read this and instantly think that this is a popular magazine and
people like popular things.
Another thing which I will include on my magazine which is a convention is headings
and the text bellow it. The headline will be written in capital letters , this will be
because it will emphasize how important it its. The capital letters will also catch the
audiences eye from a distance. The heading will be in a bold font and will be bigger
than the text underneath it. The name of my headlines will most likely include a word
such as exclusive or free , this is because these words will make the audience either
want to see what is free or what's exclusive to this magazine. The text underneath the
headline will be a short summary of what is hap pening in this story. I will include 2-4
headlines depending on the room.
On my magazine cover I will include a main image , this will be one I have taken myself.
The camera shot I am planning on taking is a medium or just a close up . This is because I
want people to instantly see the artist , if the picture was a long shot the audience would
have to pick up the magazine just to see who it is. The lighting in the image I want to
include will be quite bright but obviously no too bright. This will be similar to the lighting
on this main image. The main image in my opinion needs to be bright for a music magazine
as there are various other similar magazines and a bright picture will help target the
audience which is music fans. The clothes that will be featured on my magazine will be the
standard average clothes however I may Photoshop them to make them look more
expensive.
On my magazine cover I will also include
a barcode cover line and a price tag , this
is because these are included on the
majority of magazine front covers.
6. In this double page spread I will include the conventions of
which are included within professional and existing double
page spreads. The first thing I will include and which is very
important is a main image. The main image of a double
page spread is very important as it engages the reader into
what they are reading and who it is about. The main image
will be most likely a close up camera shot , as shown on
this example. The lighting will be bright due to the target
audience. The bright lighting will interest the audience and
could also reflect deeper meanings about the artist, for
example the image may be bright due to the artist being a
positive person and creates music which is quite upbeat
and modern.
The title or masthead of the article is an important
element of a double page spread. This is because it
will basically summarise what the article or text is
about below. The title I will include will be all in
capitals and will be in a large bold don't. This is
because then the audience will be able to clearly see
what the article is about. The title will determine
whether or not they read the article
Another thing which I will include in my double page spread is
page numbers. These are a small thing and many people may
not notice them however they are included on every double
page spread. This will make mine look more professional.
The main thing I will include and most likely spend the
most time on will be the article. This is because I will
have to proof read it as well as write quite a lot . The
article will be about the artist who features on my
double page spread. The article will most likely be an
interview between me and the artist. I have chosen to
do an interview because I feel that I will know what to
write compared to myself writing a auto biography
about the artist. The font of the article will be most
likely black due to it standing out on the majority of
colours. The font will also be quite small possibly size
14 or 16. The type of font I will include will be
something which the audience will be able to read and
is clear. The font will also have to link to the genre of
the magazine , for example I would not have classy
font because my magazine is not for high class or older
people.
The colour of my magazine will be something
bright however will not be something like yellow.
The colour could be something like grey with a
lighter gradient this has been shown in my mock
up.
7. Content
Content How You Could Get It
Main image. The way I will get this is through borrowing a camera from college and take
some photos of someone who is willing to be on my front cover. I will also
most likely have to book the studio out , this is so that my images will look
professional.
Article. The article will be constructed by myself and will be done on Microsoft word.
The article will then be checked for any spelling errors and then placed on my
double page spread.
Fonts. The fonts I will use will be from Photoshop or 1001 fonts. These two sources
will provide me with a huge variety of fonts which I could use.
Barcode. To get a barcode I will either if I have the time make my own custom barcode
however I most likely wont therefore I will just insert one from google images.
Photos For any other photos I may use I will get them of google images. When I get
these images I will then edit them so that they look like they were taken by
myself. This will also make it look like I have not copied.
Programme. The programs I will use will be mainly Photoshop for my magazine cover and in
design for my double page spread. I may also use other programs such as word
and any online ones.
8. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Memory stick breaks or corrupts. To solve this problem you should back your
work up. This could be done through email or
through an online storage service like one drive
or Google drive.
The computer crashes and does not turn on. to solve this issue you should tell a tutor and
hopefully they will fix it. Make sure to back your
work up and save frequently. If the computer
does not turn on move onto another computer
and access your work through memory stick or
email.
Do not complete all the wok on time and miss
the deadline.
make sure you complete all the work in the
time provided. This can be done at home or
during study days.
If the mouse and keyboard break. To solve this find a new mouse and keyboard
and get on with your work as quickly as
possible. You should also alert a tutor or
someone who can hep you resolve this
problem.
You might not know how to work a specific
program.
If this is the case you can always ask for help or
you could use online recourses to help you use
the program for example you could use
YouTube.
9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
One potential issue is back ache. This can be avoided by standing up and
stretching every half hour or so.
Another potential issue is that you could spill
drink on the computer and plugs , this could
cause yourself being electrocuted.
Drink outside the class room or drink a safe
distance from the computer and plugs.
Headache this can be stopped by keeping yourself
hydrated and get fresh air.
Eye strain. to avoid this issue you could lower the
brightness of the screen. You could also take
brakes from the computer.
Trip over someone bag or a wire. To avoid this I will make sure that bags and
wires are out of sight.
