Advantages of using positions:
 Less maintenance work, because when selecting a position during hiring,
attributes are defaulted in
 Vacancies can easily be tracked and reported on – If you only use jobs,
vacancies are not ‘visible’
 Incumbent history at the position makes it easy to track who was when in this
position at any time (even if the position is currently vacant)

What’s Changed?
 Compared to PeopleSoft:
– PeopleSoft ‘Job Code’ is called ‘Job’ in Fusion (PeopleSoft ‘Job’ is called ‘Assignment’ in Fusion)
– In Fusion you can define multiple valid grades for a job or position
– No need to define up front Full/Partial Position Management – positions are available at the
assignment as an optional attribute
 Compared to EBS:
– Integration with profiles
– Job Families have been added to group jobs
– Jobs are Set enabled in Fusion
– Positions: Incumbent Details available from the position UI

Define using ESC
 You can define segments in the position and job flexfields to
further identify jobs and positions in the enterprise.
 For example, define attributes for a job to identify additional
details about the job, such as the nature of the work that is
performed, or the relative skill level required for the job.
 If these attributes apply to all jobs in the enterprise, then set up
enterprise-level job attributes
 Set up enterprise-level attributes to identify separate
components of the position name. For example, set up an
attribute for position title and one for position number.

 Positions are created within a Business Unit
 For jobs, you can define additional job structures for every reference data set defined in
ESC. Any attributes you set up at the reference data set level will appear alongside any
enterprise-level attributes

the ESC. Any attributes you set up at the business unit level will appear alongside any
enterprise-level attributes
