Age And Gender Stereotypes
Age and gender play a role in the rate of recognition of known and unknown stimuli. Francois
Guillem and Melody Mograss (2004) conducted a continuous recognition memory task using male
and female participants between the ages of 20 35 years old. Participants were shown pictures of
unfamiliar faces and asked to identify whether they had or had not previously seen the face.
Research shows that females have a faster recognition rate for both familiar and unfamiliar stimuli
(Guillem et al,2004). Males process information or stimuli differently than females, in part due to
brain structure and activation of neurons, but also because males tend to maintain less information
and are quick to make decisions while females are more detail oriented

Bohemian Rhapsody Rhetorical Devices
Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody , written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and
intriguing best selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be
about, but there is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express
Mercury s feelings. Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are
very important in demonstrating Mercury s emotions toward himself and others. The song is
symbolic of Mercury s emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his
confused and fragile emotions to the listeners. The introduction of the song causes the listeners to
feel sympathy and sadness through Mercury s ashamed and melancholy tone.... Show more content

Like the first section, Mercury uses rhetorical questions, but in this section, they serve a very
different purpose. The rhetorical questions help to emphasize Mercury s anger by taking the form
of accusations: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me
and leave me to die? (Mercury) The music combined with the accusations help to cause the listeners
to feel some of Mercury s anger at those who have hurt him and put him in to his current emotional
state. This section goes on to beg those who hurt him to stop and leave him alone. By repeating a
few words, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here (Mercury) he enforces the idea that he
urgently needs to leave the relationship that is hurting him and causing him all this pain. Overall,
the section is energetic and strong, and through the use of repetition and rhetorical questions, brings
the listeners similar feelings of ire and desperation due to hurtful

Lynching In The New South Georgia And Virginia 1880-1930
Review: Lynching in the New South: Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930 Between 1880 and 1930,
lynching became not only a phenomenon but a way of life in the southern states. Lynching was
racially motivated as it targeted mostly blacks. Within this 50 year period, 1000s of blacks and
hundreds of whites were killed by lynch mobs within the southern states alone. Lynching was
bloody and ruthless and a horrifying way to be executed. In Fitzhugh Brundage s book, Lynching
in the New South Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930, he talks about how lynching peaked and
expanded throughout Georgia and compares mob violence between Georgia and Virginia in that
time period. Brundage states that Lynching in the American South during the late nineteenth and
early twentieth century was but one manifestation of strenuous and bloody campaign by whites
to elaborate and impose a racial hierarchy upon people of color throughout the globe (Brundage
2). Whites used lynching as a means for social and economic control. They did not want blacks
to have any power and wanted to keep them oppressed. This book explores the differences in
lynch mobs between Georgia and Virginia, and how the whites used lynching as a way to keep
economic control in the hands of the whites. There was quite a difference in the lynching mobs
between Georgia and Virginia. Within both states, there were 4 known mobs which included:
terrorist mobs, posses, private mobs and mass mobs. Each of these mobs was distinct in some
aspect with

Warren Bennis, a renowned scholar in leadership studies said, Leadership is the capacity to
translate vision into reality. (Bennis, 2014) Widely regarded as one of the greatest Generals in
U.S. military history and one of the most important men of the 20th century, George C. Marshall
was an extraordinary visionary and ethical leader. In this paper I will first, cover how George
Marshall used his understanding of pressures for organizational change to transform the post WWI
United States Army and how his transformational leadership put his vision into action. Next I will
cover how George Marshall was an ethical leader through ethical behavior and how his fair
mindedness helped create and enact the Marshall Plan. Last, I will relate the principle of a
visionary and ethical leader to my personal relevance. George C. Marshall was a strategic
visionary leader and an astute statesman. When Marshall was appointed as the Chief of Staff of
the Army in 1939 he knew that transforming the Army at a time of volatile and uncertain
environment was essential for survival . (Nelson, 1993) The flames of conflict worldwide seemed
about to get out of control. Europe stood on the verge of war. (Nelson, 1993) That same day
Germany invaded Poland and conducted what was known as the blitzkrieg. According to

Feminist Critique Of The Awakening
FThe Awakening: A Feminist Critique
The Awakening by Kate Chopin depicts the awakening of a lady named Edna
Pontellier. Set in New Orleans (Chopin 1), this novel follows Edna as she skirmishes with the life
she is living and the life she wants to live. Moreover, one could view Edna as a model of feminism
in her time. Chopin conveyed many feminist ideas throughout her writings in a time where it was
uncommon; Chopin wrote The Awakening in a time when married women held no legal rights
over their bodies and when few other female and feminist writers hazarded openly to explore a
woman s sexual desire (Beer, et al 88). Chopin expresses feminist ideas through the actions of Edna
Pontellier, supporting characters, and how Edna s husband both treats his wife and his stereotypical
view of women.
Throughout the novel, Edna becomes dissatisfied with her life, and decides that something needs
to change. Right from the beginning of the novel, Edna immediately defies her husband when she
feels she is being treated incorrectly. She said nothing, and refused to answer her husband when
he questioned her (Chopin 6). These subtle defiances monsoons into greater ones, transforming
Edna into a radical feminist. As Enda starts to realize what she desires, she figures out that love
and sex do not necessarily coincide in the same object of desire (Beer, et al 90). Edna decides to
leave her husband, saying that I am no longer one of
Mr. Pontellier s possessions to dispose of or not. I give myself where I choose (Chopin 108).
Spicher 2
Edna leaving her husband shows her independence from her husband and that she decides not to
live with these traditional stereotypes any longer.. Edna also undergoes a sexual realization.
Edna grapples with the conflict between her romantic and sexual impulses, both urging her
towards adultery (Beer, et al 91). Between her love for Robert (Chopin 91) and her affair with
AlcГ©e (Chopin 92), her departure from her husband allows her to sexually explore, thus making
her more independent. All of the events described depict Edna s feminist attitudes towards her life.
Even though Edna is a prime example of a feminist figure, she isn t the sole feminist character in the
novel. Another illustration

Theme Of Flowers For Weddings And Funerals
In Flowers for Weddings and Funerals, we view the surroundings of an unnamed narrator. The
people closest to the narrator are her grandmother, Omah, and her friend named Laurence.
The story continuously changes between taking place in the company of the grandmother, and
Laurence.
There is only one obvious jump in time throughout the story; this is when the narrator clarifies that
they have not been with Laurence for a while, despite seeing him.
It also fits the Hollywood model, often used in short stories. The teaser is the first paragraph, where
we meet the Omah and hear about the flowers for wedding and funerals . The elaboration covers
the next two pages; here we meet Laurence and start understanding the narrator relationships. The
point of no return happens on page 121 when the narrator lies to her Omah in ... Show more content

She is very religious and often reads verses from the Bible to the narrator. She has a garden with
a plum tree and many flowers, along with a greenhouse (page 118). She works with supplying
flowers for weddings and funerals. Her husband is dead, and she has no telephone, so the
narrator works as a messenger for the orders to Omah receives (118). The Omah wishes the
narrator understands and embraces their Russian ancestry, and tells the narrator that they are a fine
child, to visit your Omah, God will reward you in heaven. (Page 123). The same way that
Laurence us unaware of the narrators true opinion their relationship of him, so is the Omah; who
does not realize that the narrator isn t interested in the Omah s bible verses or dark stories anymore.
Flowers for Weddings and Funerals is a short storywith a commonly seen main theme, but a
different way of telling it. The main theme is the transition from being a child to being an adult, and
how the narrator has find and create an identity for themselves, along with the decisions that have to

Should School Be A Mandatory Course On The Real World And...
Do you remember when we had our first job, and couldn t wait for that first check? I remember
mine. The money was all gone in 60 seconds, as I spent it all on things that didn t really matter.
We all wished we could ve prevented that spending habit. I regret every penny that I lost, while I
had no idea how to use money correctly. School districts need to focus on providing courses that
will better prepare students for real life issues. Therefore, there should be a mandatory course on,
Personal Finance, in high School, because as they are struggling to figure out who they are as they
are also oblivious to their own financial identity status, they don t know have the financial
discipline from home, on understanding how to manage their money, and the most financial issues
results to even academic failure. There are many ways to prepare these students for the real world
and money. First of all, if you remember that piggy bankthat we kept as kids, it was probably the
only understanding we had about money, growing up. We would put money in there, and we
weren t allowed to touch it unless it got full. And when that time came, the only way to access
our savings, is if we sacrificed that piggy, by throwing it on the ground, or hammering it to pieces.
We did just about anything to get that piggy bank to open. Well, because of the lack of knowledge
today, our reality of piggy banks as adults has diminished. Today that piggy has hole at the bottom.
We are able to dig into that

Erasmus Influence On Religion
Absolutely, the role of religion in the last thousand years of human history cannot be overstated.
The wager of wars and the builder of kingdoms, religion has been responsible for many great
occurrences. Nonetheless, religion, too, has nefarious potential. The rise of the Humanist
movement meant the rise of laicism, which also meant religion and its institutions were constantly
challenged Christianityand the Catholic Churchlargely came under fire due to mass corruption
within the institution. Among Christianity s critics was Desiderius Erasmus, arguably the first to
oppose the Church and one of the most influential writers of the Humanist period; his criticisms of
the Catholic Church in The Praise of Folly were derivative of his desire... Show more content on

Being an educated, Catholic man of piety himself, Erasmus could not be swept aside as a
heretic, but was acknowledged and instigated a great deal of distrust toward the Church from the
middle class. Though an intellectual, Erasmus struggled while attending the University of Paris
because, as a scholastic institution, he found it stifled his imagination. His Praise of Folly was
first written in Latin, not unusual given the period in which it was written, and Erasmus was
recognized as having considerable skill in writing Latin. Since many of the texts that come from
antiquity are written in Latin, a great deal effort is put into maintaining the integrity of the
original text during its translation to English. The narrative of The Praise of Folly may be
divided into three main segments: firstly, Folly introduces herself as the only she...whose divine
influence makes gods and men rejoice, and the crude, satirical nature of the work is established.
She explains her fundamental role in all relationships, reasoning that no one would be able to
stand one another without her aid. The second section is where the foolish banter ends and the
criticisms begin; Folly chastises doctors, lawyers, grammarians, and artists for their lack or
excess of her essence, but above all she expresses her contempt for theologians. Thirdly and
finally, Folly addresses the idea that Christianity is a faith by and for fools, with Jesus being the
biggest fool of

Nervous System
The Nervous System
The nervous system is the most complex part of the body, as they govern our thoughts, feelings,
and bodily functions. It is an important factor in science because it can lead to new discoveries for
cures or diseases. The studies of the nervous system helped lower death rates from heart disease,
stroke, accidents, etc. The nervous system is a network of neurons (nerve cells) that that sends
information to the brain to be analyzed. Neurons live both in and outside the central nervous system.
Understanding how the neurons work is vital to understanding the nervous system. Neurons The
neuron has two important structures called the dendrite and axon, also called nerve fibers. The
dendrites are like tentacles that sprout from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Central Nervous System The brain and spinal cord forms the Central Nervous System. The spinal
cord gathers information from the neurons and sends it to the brain, but not all nerve impulses
get sent to the brain. Only a few impulses reach the brain, and an even smaller number reaches
the part of the brain where they cause awareness. The brain and spinal cord is made up of gray
and white matter, as well as the various nerve cells. The brain is divided into three parts: the
forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The forebrain is called the cerebrum, the largest and most
developed part of the human brain. It is divided by the longitudinal sulcus, a deep crevice that
separates the forebrain into the left and right cerebral hemispheres. Each hemispheres control the
motor (movement) and sensory (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) functions of the other side
of the body. The two hemispheres are divided into four lobes: the frontal, parietal, occipital, and
temporal lobe. The frontal lobe is involved with muscle control from head to toe. The parietal lobe
obtains sensory information from the skin and muscles. The occipital lobe receives information
from vision, and the temporal lobe controls speech. Although the four lobes do different jobs, they
communicate with each other to allow the brain to coordinate a response. The cerebrum combines
the mixtures of sight, sound, smell, and

Texas Income Tax
The state of Texas should not adopt a personal income tax. Any legislator who would propose a bill
seeking to establish a state income tax would be seriously questioned, because a state income tax is
currently unconstitutional.
The Texas Constitution was amended in 1993, during Governor William P. Clements second
administration, to prohibit a state income tax. Therefore, any such proposal would have serious
difficulties passing both chambers of the legislature and then it would be subject to ratification
through a statewide referendum. Texas lack of a state income tax seems to have enhanced its
economy vitality with this approach. It also lacks a corporate income tax, which is not prohibited
by the Constitution. Texas is one of seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could cut the local tax rate in most school districts now around $1.50 per $100 of property
value for maintenance and operations (M O) to roughly 50 cents! The maximum M O tax rate
also now generally capped at $1.50 must be reduced by the same percentage as total M O taxes.
If the income tax cut the property tax rate by 65%, then it would also cut the tax cap by 65%.
After the cap was cut, only the voters in a school district could increase their district s maximum
tax rate. The Bullock Amendment then provides that the remaining one third of income tax
revenue could be spent, but only on education. State income tax payments are deductible from
taxable income in calculating federal income taxes. Deductibility shifts part of the cost of public
education to the federal government. The above chart shows that, although the tax would have
raised $16.4 billion in 2004, the net cost to Texas taxpayers would have been only $3.9 billion.
Lower property taxes would have returned most of the new revenue ($10.9 billion) to taxpayers.
Uncle Sam would have picked up 10% of the total cost of the income tax ($1.6 billion) through
higher deductions on federal tax

The Treatment Of A Female Child
A female child, under 16 years of age, has been dealing with a number of health issues for several
years. Among them are STDs, bipolar, pregnancy/miscarriage, suicide attempts, and newly
discovered cervical cancer. She has a history of drugs and alcohol and is about 4 weeks into
another pregnancy. She has been expelled from school and is suppose to have home schooling
three times a week. These are canceled most of the time because she is either not at home, or is not
able to function that day. This child has decided not to have any treatment for the cervical cancer as
this would prevent her from being able to become pregnant in the future. She has also decided to
have the baby. Apparently she does not understand the ramifications involved if she does not have
the cancer surgery/treatment with regard to the safety and healthof the child she is carrying as well
as her own. There have been numerous professional people involved in the ongoing care of this
child. Various doctors, psychiatrists, Social Services, Child Protective Advocates, the courts, a
mentor and school councilors have been looking out for the welfare of this child for at least 3
years. In spite of the fact that she has a history of drugs and alcohol, and has anger management
issues and suicide attempts, nobody has taken these red flags seriously enough to protect her from
herself. The parents of this child are divorced. They are also dysfunctional. Problems have existed
in this family from the beginning. An

that the Soviet Union became involved and wanted to take away land from Japan as well. Most of
the Invasion from the US also weakened Japan s military. Due to the invasions from the US and
the Soviet Union Japan were ready to surrender because they could not afford to continue even if
they would not surrender the US had other options to make Japan surrender.
Lastly, The atomic bombs were not necessary because there were other options to make Japan
surrender. Admiral William Leahy believed that an economic blockade and conventional bombing
would make Japan surrender. There were other options to make Japan surrender, but not many were
taken on consideration because of Truman. There were other options to make Japan surrender but
Truman saw to use the atomic bomb to save American lives.
In conclusion the atomic bomb was not necessary because it killed innocent people, Japan would

Us Involvement In The Vietnam War Essay
The Vietnam war was a civil war between Northern and Southern Vietnam. The two halves of
Vietnam were separated because of disagreements in governmental policies. American troops
involved themselves in the Vietnam war because they wanted to protect Vietnam from becoming a
communist country. The United States was split between those who wanted troops to get involved
in the war and those who opposed. So when the US officials decided to enter into the war, uproars
and peace movements began. The United Statesshould not have gotten involved in the war because

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia ( Leukemia )
Abstract
There are many types of leukemia that affect thousands of people each year and many do not
survive this type of cancer. Yearly occurrences of new cases reach up to about 54,000 and almost
half of this staggering number end fatally. The four types that are most common for this cancer are
acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute lymphocytic leukemia
(ALL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells where abnormally high counts of white blood cells are
produced in the bone marrow. These are the primary cells in the body that fight infection but when
they are abnormal as in this case, they cannot be an effective defense mechanism. In their normal
routines of fighting infection, controlling bleeding, and transport of oxygen, the normal functions
of the body begin to break down often leading to fatality.
The cancer of the body s blood forming tissue can be acute, with a rapid onset of symptoms and
be very aggressive in nature. Chronic leukemias are a slow developing cancer and the symptoms
may not be detectable once they have begun to develop in the system. Leukemia has many
different forms where some are more common in children and others in more prevalent in adults.
This cancer affects thousands of people yearly with an estimated number of new cases reaching
approximately 54,000. The symptoms can vary depending on how fast the disease proliferates in
the body. The cancer is treated and

Teacher Identity And Identity
Merriam Webster s Dictionary defines identity as the distinguishing character or personality of
an individual. Teacher identity implies both a cognitive psychological and sociological
perspective: people develop their identity in interaction with other people, but they express their
professional identity in perceptions of who they are and who they want to become as a result of
this interaction. (Bejaard 2006). I come from a middle class family of six, with two parents with
only a high school diploma. My father Immigrated to America in the early 1940 s from Puerto
Rico, while my mom was born in the Bronx N.Y and is African American and Bajan decent. I
was born in the Bronx in the early seventies, and raised in Suffolk County Long island during the
early eighties. I grew up in a small community called Gordon Heights which is a predominantly
African American Neighborhood in Coram NY. This small community was surrounded smaller
towns in Suffolk county New York mainly composed of Families of Italian, German Jewish
descent. Growing up we spent our weekends and summers in the Bronx and Spanish Harlem,
which allow my siblings and I to stay in touch with our Afro Latino roots. Attending school on long
Island in comparison to NY city schools, was a blessing of sorts because the quality of education
was better. This is where I learned to develop relationships with people of all races, even though we
were in the minority.
Keeping in touch with our communities in Bronx Harlem, during my senior year in High School
was able to join a program called The International Youth Leadership Institute, sponsored by

experience changed my life forever in which I now see the world through a different lens.
At an early age in life, the elders of the family always taught us about the African history and
what it means to be of the African Diaspora. I had a firsthand experience of visiting slave holding

The Pros And Cons Of The Stamp Act, And The Tea Act
Some of the ways in which the colonists responded to British actions between 1765 and 1770 were
the Stamp Act, the stationing of British troops in Boston, the Townshend Act, and the Tea Act 33.
The Stamp Act was put in place so the colonist would pay tax on every legal paper, license,

Hamlet As A Hero
A hero is considered to be an individual who is idolized for their courage, achievements, or noble
qualities: they are selfless, decisive, and seek to bring those who have committed wrongs to
justice. Heroes typically operate on a basis of black and white morality, wherein the hero s course
of action is that of justice, and their opposition s path is that of villainy. However, in realistic
scenarios, morality is rarely so straightforward. Protagonists in fiction typically establish the moral
code which the story s universe upholds, but that does not imply that the protagonistis a moral
character. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, the titular character, Hamlet, is a morally ambiguous character
thrust into a heroic role, while possessing few characteristics typically associated with heroism.
In the play, Hamlet is the prince of Denmark, whose father, the king, had died while the prince
was away at school. Hamlet arrives home from college to find his father deceased, and to find his
mother remarried to his uncle, Claudius. Immediately, the readers are introduced to Hamlet as an
emotional character: melancholy to the point of being suicidal, and bitter towards his family. In
Hamlet s first soliloquy, he marks a distinction between himself and the classic hero in an allusion

Gross Domestic Product ( Gdp ) Economic Statistics
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) economic statistics are one of the most closely watched stats
throughout each country. In the charts listed above, the nominal GDP is greater than real GDP in
each quarter of 2016 due to the nominal GDP reflecting current GDP at current price and real GDP
reflecting current GDP at past year prices. Also, the chart reflects that the nominal GDP was greater
than the real GDP for each quarter of 2016 due to the value of the nominal GDP sub categories
(personal consumption expenditures, gross private domestic investments, and government
consumption expenditures and gross investment) all being significantly higher than the same sub
categories listed under the real GDP. The nominal GDP reflects the prices that are... Show more

Some differences between the two products are services or the market of goods that are produced
for that respective country s economy. However, the GNP does not include the annual foreign
production that is inherited by the domestic citizens, whereas the GDP does include the foreign
productions that are inherited by its domestic citizens. According to the table above, to determine
the GNP and GDP you will calculate the national product total from the national and personal
income. National income is the overall annual value of goods and services within a respective
country economy. The chart shows that in 2016, the GNP was $7,864.80 higher than the national
income. National income is broken down into ten categories (compensation of employees, rents,
interest, proprietor s income, corporate income taxes, dividends, undistributed corporate profits,
indirect business taxes, consumption of fixed capital and net foreign factor income). However, the
employee compensation makes up the largest portion of the national income. In my opinion, I
believe this to be true, because the economy is valued by its population and the services that are
provided and goods that are sold. This can t happen without having citizens gainfully employed,
which in return will need to be compensated for the work they are contributing to their economy.

Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis
In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing
social consciousness and defying conventional writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat
poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets,
known for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and
experimental drug use, caused a lot of controversy. In Ginsberg s Howland Other Poems, Ginsberg
employs a particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative,
nuclear driven society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and
individuals whose ideology does not agree with that of the rest of the nation. Ginsberg believes that
American society remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg,
along with the other poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as
heterosexual as well as homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their writings. Ginsberg became
one of the most influential poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the
idea of breaking the mold of the idealistic nuclear American society.
Bond 2
At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at
home wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread idealistic way of life followed by the mass
mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of
the American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the
privilege of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this concept of the idealistic American Dream
proceeds to do nothing but harm minorities much like himself. Ginsberg saw the best minds of
[his] generation destroyed by madness... demanding instantaneous lobotomy... (1 69). The harmful
and destructive ideology of the great American dream remains engraved in our society dating all
the way back to The Bill of Rights, 1789, No person shall be... deprived of life, liberty, or property
and Allen Ginsberg strived to dismantle this falsely constructed ideology. Ginsberg uses his
sexaulity as a prime

Peter Singer Equality
In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted
equal moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal
consideration of interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the
premises on how he came to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the
capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is
not capable of suffering, or of experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken
into account... This is why the limit of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for
the interests of other (Singer 50).
Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting
the conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral
ideal and not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). In other words, when we say that all human
beings are equal, we do not assert that they are in fact equal in intelligence, moral capacity, physical
strength, or similar matters of fact. Instead, we assert that they ... Show more content on

That is to say, for any being that has interests, these interests must be taken as equally morally
important with similar interests of another being. However, Singer notes that equal consideration of
interests does not imply identical treatment. Instead, Singer argues that the principle of equality is
equality of equal consideration for different beings may lead to different treatment and rights
(Singer 50). Extending to nonhuman animals the same moral consideration we extend to human
beings means that we give the interests of nonhuman animals the same weight as comparable
interests of human beings (Singer

Corruption In The Bloody Chamber
Because The Bloody Chamber consists of a first person narrator it could suggest that the young
female is not trapped as she has an outlet and her own voice, A. R, Sheets explains she is not
trapped in a visual representation. Because she has a voice, she can be heard without seen (648).
Conversely, I believe this view can be challenged as the young narratoris often found to refer to
herself in the third person, therefore signifying that she does not have confidence in her
judgements, nor is she comfortable with herself, Aidan Day supports this idea as he suggests she
comments on the image of herself in the mirror as if she were an outsider (1998, 154), for example
the narrator states:
I saw him watching me in the gilded mirrors with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A counter gaze can be seen in both The Bloody Chamber and The Collector. In The Collector we
are often allowed insight into the character of Miranda through the use of her diary entries and
her conversations with Clegg for example You re very difficult to get. You re so featureless.
Everything s nondescript. I m thinking of you as an object, not as a person (62), Though
Miranda may not be looking at Clegg erotically it is clear that she objectifies him and that she
has the active role here as she looks upon him, Miranda here does not come across as passive nor
does she in many other instances in the novel. In Miranda s diary entry she proclaims I m so
superior to him. I know this sounds wickedly conceited. But I am. (139) this claim stands as an
argument against Berger s notion that she turns herself into an object as Miranda sees herself as
above Clegg. Kaplan further states that men wish to be taken over by an aggressive woman (5),
suggesting that some men, arguably Clegg would desire to have a passive role in the relationship
opposed to an active role, evidenced when Miranda states Go away. You exhaust me. You re like a

Analysis Of Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed
There are many varying opinions towards the lower class, some believe they are lazy and others
think they are earnest hardworking folk. In her book Nickel and Dimed , Barbara Ehrenreich
takes a closer look at the lives and hardships of the lower class. Her goal is to bring awareness to
the struggles of these people and while attempting to disprove negative misconceptions about these
people. The author writes to an audience of privileged upper class people trying to prove just how
difficult it is living in the lower class. Although Ehrenreich does achieve these goals, her arguments
are weakened because she focuses more on her experiences rather than those around her. Despite

Strength Of Tensile Strength
2.1.8.4. Tensile strength:
Lightweight and normal weight concretes have similar tensile strengths, though lightweight
exhibits greater variability. The tensile strength of normal weight concrete of equal compressive
strength may vary within a wide range depending, among other parameters, on the shape and
surface texture of the aggregate. Experimental tests indicate that the tensile strength of concrete is
highly variable and ranges from a bout 8 12% of its compressive strength. The actual value depends
on the type of the test and crack propagation pattern at failure. (Ghoneim and El Mihlmy, 2008)
(Fabian, 2010), the tensile strength of concrete is important when considering cracking. For
specimens loaded under uniaxial compression, cracking parallel to the line of action of the load
implies some influence of the tensile strength of the specimens units. Depending on the load
impact, tensile strength can be divided into flexural tensile strength, splitting ... Show more content

Importance Of Electronic Discovery
1) Why is electronic discovery not an issue in some cases?
In some cases, electronic discovery is actually a good thing when it comes to litigation. Because
of electronic discovery, the law office is now becoming more green since paper documents are now
being replaced by electronic files (Goldman and Hughes, 273). Since documents are now becoming
electronic, someone can also search through millions of pages to find information quickly
(Goldman and Hughes, 273).
3) Why is electronic discovery a process? What are the steps in the process?
Electronic discovery is a process because there are many steps in the process rather than just one
single event (Goldman and Hughes, 250). The electronic discovery process first starts obtaining the
documents, then filtering the documents out for relevant terms. Next, duplicate copies of the
information must be removed. After that, the documents are converted into files that can be
processed like other electronic files. Finally, the document is given a code in order to make locating
the documents much easier (Goldman and Hughes, 273).
4) What are the issues to be considered in choosing the format in which documents are to be
delivered?
There are a variety of issues that must be considered when choosing a document s format of
delivery. The first issue is metadata. Metadata is information from a data set that may describe how,
when and by whom a document was received from (Goldman and Hughes, 254). Having metadata
in a document could result in

History and Albert Einstein Albert Einstein was one of the greatest physicists of all time. His early

Einstein s was born on the 14th of March in 1879. He grew up in Ulm, Germany. Einstein had an
irregular education because he was always moving schools. Though being thrown around to many
schools he read many popular books on science. By the age of 17 he started attending the Federal
Polytechnic Academy in Zurich, Switzerland. While there Einstein studied physics and mathematics.
In 1905 Einstein was awarded his PH.D. from the University of Zurich. 1905 was also the year
that historians refer to has Einstein s miracle year . During this time he was wrote and published
five theoretical papers. One of these papers titled On a Heuristic Viewpoint Concerning the
Production and Transformation of Light, Einstein talked about how he believed that light is made

The Argument Of The Mission To Mars
The Argument of the Mission to Mars Many feel that the United States should lead a crewed
mission to discover the planet of Mars. Mars One, a settlement, has started a goal to initiate
human life on the Red Planet. However, are humans really capable for Mars? There are two sides
of the argument. Many are agreeing on starting the mission while others are contracted by the idea.
I, for one, believe the mission should not take place. Difficulties NASAhas to overcome, the safety
of the trip, and the costs of the whole mission are many of the opposing factors of starting a
journey to the Red Planet. For example, NASA still cannot finalize the trip. As stated in source #2,

Intervention Strategy For Verizon Communication
Introduction Conflict resolution is necessary to keep focus and sustain the positive process.
Collection of all the facts should be done prior to attempted resolution. Communication to the
parties in a private setting to get their perspective is the idea. Only give opinions afterwards.
Unless all is understood one cannot move onto mediation. After making the decision, be resolute in
the delivery. (Lewicki, Saunders, Barry, 2015) Verizon Communications faced an increasingly
uncommon situation in 2016 when about 39,000 of its workers went on strike. The workers are
represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers (IBEW). These workers install and repair cables, as well... Show more content

The reason for the intervention was to get the Verizon workers back to work and get Verizon
back to a competitive state on the global market. To ease tensions and allow for a level playing
field Mr. Perez wanted both parties to talk in a non threatening environment, so he invited them
to meet in an informal setting with no suits and ties. He even downplayed the lunch menu to
sandwiches and salad. Experienced negotiators understand, however, that changing the
negotiation setting the physical location in which it occurs can be an important tactic for getting
negotiations back on track (Lewicki, Saunders Barry, 2015). In short, negotiations from Verizon
side was to get costs down, and from the Union side, it was job security. The Labor Department
offered any of its available assets to both sides to broker a deal. At times the DOL provided
expertise in the form of healthcare laws, benefits, and fair labor practices. To end the talks and
bring both sides together, Mr. Perez issued a challenge for both sides to consider the 40,000
workers that were being affected and the amount of business lost due to the ongoing negotiations.
Satisfactory results achieved due to the efforts led by Secretary Perez and the Department of Labor.
After tense negotiations, Verizon and the unions were able to come to an agreement that ended the
strike. There was give and

Napoleon After The French Revolution
Before Napoleon came to power in France, the state of the Jewish people was uncertain. Some years
they flourished as a community, but some years they fell victim to anti Semitism and hatred. They
were constantly moving from country to country as they were continually getting expelled from
one and accepted to another in a very short time. Their fortunes changed for the better after the
French revolutionin 1789. In that year, the French national assembly passed the Declaration of the
Rights of Man and Citizen. The Jewswere not specifically named in the declaration, but somehow
were recognized. The Sephardi Jews got emancipation two months afterward the Declaration and
Ashkenazi Jews, two years after that. These freedoms only happened after long debates between

When Siddhartha Gautama first stepped outside his palace walls, I bet he didn t know that he
took the first steps to starting a major world religion. Before I start on the cause and effect deal,
I wanted to do a little research on Siddhartha Gautama, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly
what I did. I researched for about an hour, nearly missing my fencing class, but I found what I
wanted. Siddhartha was born in a large clan called the Shakyas in Nepal, son of the leader of the
tribe. As of custom, he married at the age of 16. They say his father didn t want him to see the
suffering outside the palace walls. So when he was in his late 20s and early 30s, he finally went
outside the walls. He was quickly exposed to the hardship of outside the walls. He saw a diseased
man and a decaying corpse. So when he was 29, he left his wife and kids to live alone and try to
figure out the source of humansuffering. After a couple years of living solitary, he meditated and
fasted nearly to starvation. Siddhartha thought he had found the way to end all universal suffering.
He found a small group of other ascetics and they listened to his teachings. These were his first
followers. Because he first stepped outside of the palace walls, as a result, he started his path to
becoming Buddha.
After a couple years, his followers multiplied, and the religion developed. The Buddhist religion
adopted some Hindu traditions and customs, such as meditating. Meditating is thought to help the

Edward Beladike, S Theory Of Edward Thorndike s Law Of Effect
Edward Thorndike was born August 31, 1874, in Williamsburg, Massachusetts to Robert and
Abbie Thorndike. He continued his undergraduate work from Wesleyan University and proceed
his postgraduate composition at Harvard. By the age of 23, he completed his Ph.D. from
Columbia University. Thorndike started his professional career at the Women s College of
Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he taught for one year, before accepting an
education proposition at Teachers College at Columbia University in 1899. Thorndike remained at
Teachers College until his departure in 1940; his career centered largely on evaluating the learning
process and testing intelligence. Edward Thorndike was a powerful psychologist who is often
referred to as the establisher of modern educational psychology. He was perhaps most known for his
remarkable puzzle box experiments with feline which led to the elaboration of his law of effect.
Thorndike s commencement suggests that responses instantly followed by gratification will be
more credible to happen in the future. The law of effect also suggests that behaviors followed by
displeasure or discouragement will become less probable to happen. Thorndike s commencement
also played a significant role in the elaboration of behaviorism and B.F. Skinner s operant
conditioning. Thorndike s law of effect refers to human behaviorand is supported by his confidence
that human behavior can be analyzed in the stimulus response units. Edward s

The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg
In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, which
revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005). Since then, hundreds of word
processing programs have been developed, along with thousands of new fonts, from Times New
Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing professionals and scientists around the world have wondered
what kinds of fonts stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how
memory functions, how the brainprocesses information and how font and memory are connected in
psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The nervous systemconsists of three main
sections, the central nervous system (CNS), the peripheral nervous system (PNS), and... Show more

The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in the cerebral
cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the cerebral cortex called the
amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term memory can hold seven items of information
for fifteen to twenty seconds. Information that was received verbally and information that was
received visually are kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits
of short term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long term
memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the sequence in which they
were received. The two kinds of long term memory are implicit and explicit memories. Implicit
memories are unconsciously remembered, like how to open doors. Explicit memories are
consciously remembered. There are three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and
declarative.
Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of attending a party.
Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like the capital of France.
Declarative memories are of people, places, and things, such as names and faces (Foster, 2011;
Greenberg, 1987; Fields, 2005).
Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any memory. The
structure that enables a connection between the neurons is called a synapse. Short term memory
has temporary synapse strengthening and

Diversity In DC Comics
Diversity in Comics Over the years, comic books have reflected what has been happening in the
world around us. Hot topics and issues have taken place in these fantasy worlds. They have been
used as propaganda. For example, during the second world war, people could read about their
favorite heroes fighting and eventually defeating Hitler and the Nazis, therefore saving the world.
During the cold war, they fought the Soviets. Comics have brought a light to heavy topics that
are hard to talk about. In nineteen seventy one, DC Comics released a two part comic called
Snowbirds Don t Fly. It revealed that Green Arrow s sidekick, Roy Harper, who used the identi

This can be seen with beauty standards and stereotypes. This also applies to what s common.
Often you will hear people complain about there being too many gay characters in media, this
can also be applied to minority characters. The reality is that people are just not accustomed to
this diversity in media. Another issue is that people who are in these minorities aren t getting
represented so they are led to believe that their struggles are unique. This can be harmful and
lead to a multitude of issues. Representation is important. Comic books are a type of media and
minorities should be represented. As said earlier, comic books reflect life. So why should it not
reflect the diversity of everyday life. One of the common arguments you will hear is that
changing characters and adding diversity drives fans away. The only fans it honestly will ever
drive away are old fans holding onto old stereotypes. What drives away fans is bad writing. So in
the end the only ones who don t want change in comics ar the people who don t want change in
the world. The reality is that the world is changing and so should the media. The sooner we realize
this the sooner we can accept

The Importance Of Religion And Terrorism
Religion and Terrorism Terrorism is use of unlawful force against property or persons in aim to
intimidate or coerce the civilian population, the government and any relevant segment while
seeking for either social or political objectives (Awan and Blakemore, 2016). In 1980s, politics
inspired terrorism, but as 1990s approached, the dramatic increase in terrorismwas enthused by
religious agendas. As a result there is, need to change focus from political instigated terrorism to a
dominant religious terrorism of the stereotypical terrorist organization. There is therefore a need for
the law enforcement communities and intelligence groups to monitor new religious and extremist
groups and movements, especially when it comes to the United States Domestic terrorism
threat(Juergensmeyer, 2017). For instance, terrorists with links to a radical Muslim extremist
group orchestrated the dreadful attack on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon. This increase in
religious terrorism is mainly due to the rise in form of militant Islamic Shiite fundamentalism.
According to Bruce Hoffman a Rand researcher, religious political terrorists and secular political
terrorists differ in that; the former considers violence as a religious call that is a direct response
some theological imperative. Among those groups, terrorism is a full time calling and that is the
reason they take credit for their actsand influence others with rules that views violence as the only
way of settling disputes. On the

Pros And Cons Of Partisan Media
The Biased Partisans American journalism has always played both sides of the fence for the
American people. In regards to that, news media is always for the people, however for different
reasons. One is to make money, and two is to provide the American people with the accurate
information of national and international affairs. As a result, partisan news media has become
realistically the only choice of news with the big five owning most of the corporations. The
discussion amongst scholars is that partisan news makes for more of an engaged citizen, on the
other hand it creates bias due to the lack of correlation of intertwining ideas. Taking into
consideration both sides of the argument, one thing remains true that there is a correlation
between the great divide and the big five partisan news medias. Partisan news has recently
become under scrutiny for the biasness that they hold. With CNN being exposed for their fake
news and their relentlessness to undermine Trumps presidency. Despite this embarrassment, there
have been some pros proclaimed by an author in the article, Public Opinion and the Media: Is
Partisan Media Exposure Bad for Democracy? Sides believes that partisan news doesn t create
polarize news rather they attract already polarized people (Sides 5). Additionally, Sides states that
partisans are the ideal citizens in our democracy (6). With this being said, Sides believes he is onto
some correlation between partisan news and participation amongst citizens.

Effectiveness of the Tory and Whig Arguments Prior to the American Revolution In the eighteenth
century, the American Revolution played a vital role in determining the future of the American
colonies. Prior to the Revolution, propagandas from both the Tories and Whigs influenced the
choices that Americans make. Both sides exchanged attacks and accusations in their publications,
while also presenting realistic evidence and logical reasoning to back their doctrine and arguments.
Two of the many documents preceding the Revolution are especially interesting in terms of their
structure of presentation. Letters of a Westchester Farmer, composed by Reverend Samuel Seabury,
offers arguments favouring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then provides logical reasons for his claims throughout the document, focusing on the issue of
those agreements. This structure is extremely effective, given that the arguments are sequential and
connected. Likewise, Common Sense has a similar structure that also creates a comparatively same
degree of effectiveness. The document first proposes its doctrine, ...as much hath been said of the
advantages of reconciliation, which, like an agreeable dream, hath passed away..., [3] and then
answers each of the charges the Tories make. Unlike the structure of the earlier document, Common
Sense poses a question or an accusation from the Tories, and rebuts it with the Whigs doctrine and
Paine s reasoning. The structure of this document is more effective in terms of impact. As in the
earlier document, the reverend does not counter Whigs view, but only express his opinions about
them. Contrary, this document offers a scope of the Tories point, and persuades the Americans that
the Whigs view is more logical by comparing the two sides. In short, Common Sense is more
effective than the Letters of a Westchester Farmer in terms of structure, due to its more
comprehensive reasoning behind the doctrines. Besides the structure, the validity

  • 2. Age And Gender Stereotypes Age and gender play a role in the rate of recognition of known and unknown stimuli. Francois Guillem and Melody Mograss (2004) conducted a continuous recognition memory task using male and female participants between the ages of 20 35 years old. Participants were shown pictures of unfamiliar faces and asked to identify whether they had or had not previously seen the face. Research shows that females have a faster recognition rate for both familiar and unfamiliar stimuli (Guillem et al,2004). Males process information or stimuli differently than females, in part due to brain structure and activation of neurons, but also because males tend to maintain less information and are quick to make decisions while females are more detail oriented ... • 3. Bohemian Rhapsody Rhetorical Devices Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody , written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and intriguing best selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be about, but there is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express Mercury s feelings. Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are very important in demonstrating Mercury s emotions toward himself and others. The song is symbolic of Mercury s emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his confused and fragile emotions to the listeners. The introduction of the song causes the listeners to feel sympathy and sadness through Mercury s ashamed and melancholy tone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like the first section, Mercury uses rhetorical questions, but in this section, they serve a very different purpose. The rhetorical questions help to emphasize Mercury s anger by taking the form of accusations: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me and leave me to die? (Mercury) The music combined with the accusations help to cause the listeners to feel some of Mercury s anger at those who have hurt him and put him in to his current emotional state. This section goes on to beg those who hurt him to stop and leave him alone. By repeating a few words, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here (Mercury) he enforces the idea that he urgently needs to leave the relationship that is hurting him and causing him all this pain. Overall, the section is energetic and strong, and through the use of repetition and rhetorical questions, brings the listeners similar feelings of ire and desperation due to hurtful ... • 4. Lynching In The New South Georgia And Virginia 1880-1930 Review: Lynching in the New South: Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930 Between 1880 and 1930, lynching became not only a phenomenon but a way of life in the southern states. Lynching was racially motivated as it targeted mostly blacks. Within this 50 year period, 1000s of blacks and hundreds of whites were killed by lynch mobs within the southern states alone. Lynching was bloody and ruthless and a horrifying way to be executed. In Fitzhugh Brundage s book, Lynching in the New South Georgia and Virginia, 1880 1930, he talks about how lynching peaked and expanded throughout Georgia and compares mob violence between Georgia and Virginia in that time period. Brundage states that Lynching in the American South during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was but one manifestation of strenuous and bloody campaign by whites to elaborate and impose a racial hierarchy upon people of color throughout the globe (Brundage 2). Whites used lynching as a means for social and economic control. They did not want blacks to have any power and wanted to keep them oppressed. This book explores the differences in lynch mobs between Georgia and Virginia, and how the whites used lynching as a way to keep economic control in the hands of the whites. There was quite a difference in the lynching mobs between Georgia and Virginia. Within both states, there were 4 known mobs which included: terrorist mobs, posses, private mobs and mass mobs. Each of these mobs was distinct in some aspect with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Weimer Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy 10 September 2014 Instructor: MSgt Blaine Holland Warren Bennis, a renowned scholar in leadership studies said, Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality. (Bennis, 2014) Widely regarded as one of the greatest Generals in U.S. military history and one of the most important men of the 20th century, George C. Marshall was an extraordinary visionary and ethical leader. In this paper I will first, cover how George Marshall used his understanding of pressures for organizational change to transform the post WWI United States Army and how his transformational leadership put his vision into action. Next I will cover how George Marshall was an ethical leader through ethical behavior and how his fair mindedness helped create and enact the Marshall Plan. Last, I will relate the principle of a visionary and ethical leader to my personal relevance. George C. Marshall was a strategic visionary leader and an astute statesman. When Marshall was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Army in 1939 he knew that transforming the Army at a time of volatile and uncertain environment was essential for survival . (Nelson, 1993) The flames of conflict worldwide seemed about to get out of control. Europe stood on the verge of war. • 6. Feminist Critique Of The Awakening FThe Awakening: A Feminist Critique The Awakening by Kate Chopin depicts the awakening of a lady named Edna Pontellier. Set in New Orleans (Chopin 1), this novel follows Edna as she skirmishes with the life she is living and the life she wants to live. Moreover, one could view Edna as a model of feminism in her time. Chopin conveyed many feminist ideas throughout her writings in a time where it was uncommon; Chopin wrote The Awakening in a time when married women held no legal rights over their bodies and when few other female and feminist writers hazarded openly to explore a woman s sexual desire (Beer, et al 88). Chopin expresses feminist ideas through the actions of Edna Pontellier, supporting characters, and how Edna s husband both treats his wife and his stereotypical view of women. Throughout the novel, Edna becomes dissatisfied with her life, and decides that something needs to change. Right from the beginning of the novel, Edna immediately defies her husband when she feels she is being treated incorrectly. She said nothing, and refused to answer her husband when he questioned her (Chopin 6). These subtle defiances monsoons into greater ones, transforming Edna into a radical feminist. As Enda starts to realize what she desires, she figures out that love and sex do not necessarily coincide in the same object of desire (Beer, et al 90). Edna decides to leave her husband, saying that I am no longer one of Mr. Pontellier s possessions to dispose of or not. I give myself where I choose (Chopin 108). Spicher 2 Edna leaving her husband shows her independence from her husband and that she decides not to live with these traditional stereotypes any longer.. Edna also undergoes a sexual realization. Edna grapples with the conflict between her romantic and sexual impulses, both urging her towards adultery (Beer, et al 91). Between her love for Robert (Chopin 91) and her affair with AlcГ©e (Chopin 92), her departure from her husband allows her to sexually explore, thus making her more independent. All of the events described depict Edna s feminist attitudes towards her life. Even though Edna is a prime example of a feminist figure, she isn t the sole feminist character in the novel. • 7. Theme Of Flowers For Weddings And Funerals In Flowers for Weddings and Funerals, we view the surroundings of an unnamed narrator. The people closest to the narrator are her grandmother, Omah, and her friend named Laurence. The story continuously changes between taking place in the company of the grandmother, and Laurence. There is only one obvious jump in time throughout the story; this is when the narrator clarifies that they have not been with Laurence for a while, despite seeing him. It also fits the Hollywood model, often used in short stories. The teaser is the first paragraph, where we meet the Omah and hear about the flowers for wedding and funerals . The elaboration covers the next two pages; here we meet Laurence and start understanding the narrator relationships. • 8. Should School Be A Mandatory Course On The Real World And... Do you remember when we had our first job, and couldn t wait for that first check? I remember mine. The money was all gone in 60 seconds, as I spent it all on things that didn t really matter. We all wished we could ve prevented that spending habit. I regret every penny that I lost, while I had no idea how to use money correctly. School districts need to focus on providing courses that will better prepare students for real life issues. Therefore, there should be a mandatory course on, Personal Finance, in high School, because as they are struggling to figure out who they are as they are also oblivious to their own financial identity status, they don t know have the financial discipline from home, on understanding how to manage their money, and the most financial issues results to even academic failure. There are many ways to prepare these students for the real world and money. First of all, if you remember that piggy bankthat we kept as kids, it was probably the only understanding we had about money, growing up. We would put money in there, and we weren t allowed to touch it unless it got full. And when that time came, the only way to access our savings, is if we sacrificed that piggy, by throwing it on the ground, or hammering it to pieces. We did just about anything to get that piggy bank to open. Well, because of the lack of knowledge today, our reality of piggy banks as adults has diminished. Today that piggy has hole at the bottom. • 9. Erasmus Influence On Religion Absolutely, the role of religion in the last thousand years of human history cannot be overstated. The wager of wars and the builder of kingdoms, religion has been responsible for many great occurrences. Nonetheless, religion, too, has nefarious potential. The rise of the Humanist movement meant the rise of laicism, which also meant religion and its institutions were constantly challenged Christianityand the Catholic Churchlargely came under fire due to mass corruption within the institution. Among Christianity s critics was Desiderius Erasmus, arguably the first to oppose the Church and one of the most influential writers of the Humanist period; his criticisms of the Catholic Church in The Praise of Folly were derivative of his desire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being an educated, Catholic man of piety himself, Erasmus could not be swept aside as a heretic, but was acknowledged and instigated a great deal of distrust toward the Church from the middle class. Though an intellectual, Erasmus struggled while attending the University of Paris because, as a scholastic institution, he found it stifled his imagination. His Praise of Folly was first written in Latin, not unusual given the period in which it was written, and Erasmus was recognized as having considerable skill in writing Latin. Since many of the texts that come from antiquity are written in Latin, a great deal effort is put into maintaining the integrity of the original text during its translation to English. The narrative of The Praise of Folly may be divided into three main segments: firstly, Folly introduces herself as the only she...whose divine influence makes gods and men rejoice, and the crude, satirical nature of the work is established. She explains her fundamental role in all relationships, reasoning that no one would be able to stand one another without her aid. The second section is where the foolish banter ends and the criticisms begin; Folly chastises doctors, lawyers, grammarians, and artists for their lack or excess of her essence, but above all she expresses her contempt for theologians. Thirdly and finally, Folly addresses the idea that Christianity is a faith by and for fools, with Jesus being the biggest fool of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Central Nervous System The brain and spinal cord forms the Central Nervous System. The spinal cord gathers information from the neurons and sends it to the brain, but not all nerve impulses get sent to the brain. Only a few impulses reach the brain, and an even smaller number reaches the part of the brain where they cause awareness. The brain and spinal cord is made up of gray and white matter, as well as the various nerve cells. The brain is divided into three parts: the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. The forebrain is called the cerebrum, the largest and most developed part of the human brain. It is divided by the longitudinal sulcus, a deep crevice that separates the forebrain into the left and right cerebral hemispheres. Each hemispheres control the motor (movement) and sensory (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) functions of the other side of the body. The two hemispheres are divided into four lobes: the frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobe. The frontal lobe is involved with muscle control from head to toe. The parietal lobe obtains sensory information from the skin and muscles. The occipital lobe receives information from vision, and the temporal lobe controls speech. Although the four lobes do different jobs, they communicate with each other to allow the brain to coordinate a response. The cerebrum combines the mixtures of sight, sound, smell, and ... • 11. Texas Income Tax The state of Texas should not adopt a personal income tax. Any legislator who would propose a bill seeking to establish a state income tax would be seriously questioned, because a state income tax is currently unconstitutional. The Texas Constitution was amended in 1993, during Governor William P. Clements second administration, to prohibit a state income tax. Therefore, any such proposal would have serious difficulties passing both chambers of the legislature and then it would be subject to ratification through a statewide referendum. Texas lack of a state income tax seems to have enhanced its economy vitality with this approach. It also lacks a corporate income tax, which is not prohibited by the Constitution. Texas is one of seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could cut the local tax rate in most school districts now around $1.50 per $100 of property value for maintenance and operations (M O) to roughly 50 cents! The maximum M O tax rate also now generally capped at $1.50 must be reduced by the same percentage as total M O taxes. If the income tax cut the property tax rate by 65%, then it would also cut the tax cap by 65%. After the cap was cut, only the voters in a school district could increase their district s maximum tax rate. The Bullock Amendment then provides that the remaining one third of income tax revenue could be spent, but only on education. State income tax payments are deductible from taxable income in calculating federal income taxes. Deductibility shifts part of the cost of public education to the federal government. The above chart shows that, although the tax would have raised $16.4 billion in 2004, the net cost to Texas taxpayers would have been only $3.9 billion. Lower property taxes would have returned most of the new revenue ($10.9 billion) to taxpayers. Uncle Sam would have picked up 10% of the total cost of the income tax ($1.6 billion) through higher deductions on federal tax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Among them are STDs, bipolar, pregnancy/miscarriage, suicide attempts, and newly discovered cervical cancer. She has a history of drugs and alcohol and is about 4 weeks into another pregnancy. She has been expelled from school and is suppose to have home schooling three times a week. These are canceled most of the time because she is either not at home, or is not able to function that day. This child has decided not to have any treatment for the cervical cancer as this would prevent her from being able to become pregnant in the future. She has also decided to have the baby. Apparently she does not understand the ramifications involved if she does not have the cancer surgery/treatment with regard to the safety and healthof the child she is carrying as well as her own. There have been numerous professional people involved in the ongoing care of this child. Various doctors, psychiatrists, Social Services, Child Protective Advocates, the courts, a mentor and school councilors have been looking out for the welfare of this child for at least 3 years. In spite of the fact that she has a history of drugs and alcohol, and has anger management issues and suicide attempts, nobody has taken these red flags seriously enough to protect her from herself. • 16. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia ( Leukemia ) Abstract There are many types of leukemia that affect thousands of people each year and many do not survive this type of cancer. Yearly occurrences of new cases reach up to about 54,000 and almost half of this staggering number end fatally. The four types that are most common for this cancer are acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Leukemia is a cancer of the blood cells where abnormally high counts of white blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. These are the primary cells in the body that fight infection but when they are abnormal as in this case, they cannot be an effective defense mechanism. In their normal routines of fighting infection, controlling bleeding, and transport of oxygen, the normal functions of the body begin to break down often leading to fatality. The cancer of the body s blood forming tissue can be acute, with a rapid onset of symptoms and be very aggressive in nature. Chronic leukemias are a slow developing cancer and the symptoms may not be detectable once they have begun to develop in the system. Leukemia has many different forms where some are more common in children and others in more prevalent in adults. This cancer affects thousands of people yearly with an estimated number of new cases reaching approximately 54,000. The symptoms can vary depending on how fast the disease proliferates in the body. Teacher identity implies both a cognitive psychological and sociological perspective: people develop their identity in interaction with other people, but they express their professional identity in perceptions of who they are and who they want to become as a result of this interaction. (Bejaard 2006). I come from a middle class family of six, with two parents with only a high school diploma. My father Immigrated to America in the early 1940 s from Puerto Rico, while my mom was born in the Bronx N.Y and is African American and Bajan decent. I was born in the Bronx in the early seventies, and raised in Suffolk County Long island during the early eighties. I grew up in a small community called Gordon Heights which is a predominantly African American Neighborhood in Coram NY. This small community was surrounded smaller towns in Suffolk county New York mainly composed of Families of Italian, German Jewish descent. Growing up we spent our weekends and summers in the Bronx and Spanish Harlem, which allow my siblings and I to stay in touch with our Afro Latino roots. Attending school on long Island in comparison to NY city schools, was a blessing of sorts because the quality of education was better. This is where I learned to develop relationships with people of all races, even though we were in the minority. Keeping in touch with our communities in Bronx Harlem, during my senior year in High School was able to join a program called The International Youth Leadership Institute, sponsored by Teachers College and Columbia University. Through this program, in which I was fortunate to be a part of, is where opportunity to travel outside the United States to Senegal, West Africa. This experience changed my life forever in which I now see the world through a different lens. At an early age in life, the elders of the family always taught us about the African history and what it means to be of the African Diaspora. • 19. Hamlet As A Hero A hero is considered to be an individual who is idolized for their courage, achievements, or noble qualities: they are selfless, decisive, and seek to bring those who have committed wrongs to justice. Heroes typically operate on a basis of black and white morality, wherein the hero s course of action is that of justice, and their opposition s path is that of villainy. However, in realistic scenarios, morality is rarely so straightforward. Protagonists in fiction typically establish the moral code which the story s universe upholds, but that does not imply that the protagonistis a moral character. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, the titular character, Hamlet, is a morally ambiguous character thrust into a heroic role, while possessing few characteristics typically associated with heroism. In the play, Hamlet is the prince of Denmark, whose father, the king, had died while the prince was away at school. Hamlet arrives home from college to find his father deceased, and to find his mother remarried to his uncle, Claudius. Immediately, the readers are introduced to Hamlet as an emotional character: melancholy to the point of being suicidal, and bitter towards his family. In Hamlet s first soliloquy, he marks a distinction between himself and the classic hero in an allusion to Hercules, who he insists himself to be nothing like, all while wishing that the Everlasting had not fixed His canon gainst ( removed HTML ) (I.ii.135 136), as he desperately wants to die. • 23. Allen Ginsberg Beat Generation Analysis In and around the 1950s Allen Ginsberg, along with several other great poets interested in changing social consciousness and defying conventional writing, became known as the Beat generation. Beat poetry focuses on the battle against social conformity and literary tradition. These Beat poets, known for their unconventional lifestyle, unorthodox political views, rowdy behavior, and experimental drug use, caused a lot of controversy. In Ginsberg s Howland Other Poems, Ginsberg employs a particularly confrontational and crude writing style to challenge the heteronormative, nuclear driven society that promotes the marginalisation and ostracisation of minorities and individuals whose ideology does not agree with that of the rest of the nation. Ginsberg believes that American society remains gravely repressed and his writing works to challenge that. Ginsberg, along with the other poets of the beat generation, introduce all the social taboos of the time such as heterosexual as well as homosexual sex, drugs, and addiction, into their writings. Ginsberg became one of the most influential poets in literary history, preaching his personal truths and promoting the idea of breaking the mold of the idealistic nuclear American society. Bond 2 At the time Ginsberg began to write, this idea of the perfect family, (working father, stay at home wife, kids and a dog), had been a widely spread idealistic way of life followed by the mass mainstream population of America. Although equality of opportunity is central to the concept of the American Dream, only those who fit the mold of the straight laced American man receive the privilege of equal opportunity. Ginsberg believes this concept of the idealistic American Dream proceeds to do nothing but harm minorities much like himself. • 24. Peter Singer Equality In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50). Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). In other words, when we say that all human beings are equal, we do not assert that they are in fact equal in intelligence, moral capacity, physical strength, or similar matters of fact. Instead, we assert that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... R, Sheets explains she is not trapped in a visual representation. Because she has a voice, she can be heard without seen (648). Conversely, I believe this view can be challenged as the young narratoris often found to refer to herself in the third person, therefore signifying that she does not have confidence in her judgements, nor is she comfortable with herself, Aidan Day supports this idea as he suggests she comments on the image of herself in the mirror as if she were an outsider (1998, 154), for example the narrator states: I saw him watching me in the gilded mirrors with ... I m thinking of you as an object, not as a person (62), Though Miranda may not be looking at Clegg erotically it is clear that she objectifies him and that she has the active role here as she looks upon him, Miranda here does not come across as passive nor does she in many other instances in the novel. In Miranda s diary entry she proclaims I m so superior to him. I know this sounds wickedly conceited. But I am. The tensile strength of normal weight concrete of equal compressive strength may vary within a wide range depending, among other parameters, on the shape and surface texture of the aggregate. Experimental tests indicate that the tensile strength of concrete is highly variable and ranges from a bout 8 12% of its compressive strength. The actual value depends on the type of the test and crack propagation pattern at failure. (Ghoneim and El Mihlmy, 2008) (Fabian, 2010), the tensile strength of concrete is important when considering cracking. • 28. Importance Of Electronic Discovery 1) Why is electronic discovery not an issue in some cases? In some cases, electronic discovery is actually a good thing when it comes to litigation. Because of electronic discovery, the law office is now becoming more green since paper documents are now being replaced by electronic files (Goldman and Hughes, 273). Since documents are now becoming electronic, someone can also search through millions of pages to find information quickly (Goldman and Hughes, 273). 3) Why is electronic discovery a process? What are the steps in the process? Electronic discovery is a process because there are many steps in the process rather than just one single event (Goldman and Hughes, 250). The electronic discovery process first starts obtaining the documents, then filtering the documents out for relevant terms. Next, duplicate copies of the information must be removed. After that, the documents are converted into files that can be processed like other electronic files. Finally, the document is given a code in order to make locating the documents much easier (Goldman and Hughes, 273). 4) What are the issues to be considered in choosing the format in which documents are to be delivered? There are a variety of issues that must be considered when choosing a document s format of delivery. The first issue is metadata. Metadata is information from a data set that may describe how, when and by whom a document was received from (Goldman and Hughes, 254). Having metadata in a document could result in ... The Cause And Effects Of Siddhartha Gautama When Siddhartha Gautama first stepped outside his palace walls, I bet he didn t know that he took the first steps to starting a major world religion. Before I start on the cause and effect deal, I wanted to do a little research on Siddhartha Gautama, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly what I did. I researched for about an hour, nearly missing my fencing class, but I found what I wanted. Siddhartha was born in a large clan called the Shakyas in Nepal, son of the leader of the tribe. As of custom, he married at the age of 16. They say his father didn t want him to see the suffering outside the palace walls. So when he was in his late 20s and early 30s, he finally went outside the walls. He was quickly exposed to the hardship of outside the walls. He saw a diseased man and a decaying corpse. So when he was 29, he left his wife and kids to live alone and try to figure out the source of humansuffering. After a couple years of living solitary, he meditated and fasted nearly to starvation. Siddhartha thought he had found the way to end all universal suffering. He found a small group of other ascetics and they listened to his teachings. These were his first followers. The Printing Press by Johannes Gutenberg In the 1450s, a German goldsmith named Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, which revolutionized the world of publishing (The Printing Press, 2005). Since then, hundreds of word processing programs have been developed, along with thousands of new fonts, from Times New Roman to Comic Sans. Marketing professionals and scientists around the world have wondered what kinds of fonts stick in a person s memory over others (Dizikes, 2013). The concepts of how memory functions, how the brainprocesses information and how font and memory are connected in psychology are essential to better understand this idea. The short term memories are stored in the hippocampus, the long term are stored in the cerebral cortex, and the flashbulb memories are stored in a special part of the cerebral cortex called the amygdala (Young 2010; Hamzelou, 2011). Short term memory can hold seven items of information for fifteen to twenty seconds. Information that was received verbally and information that was received visually are kept in different places in short term memory. To make the most of the limits of short term memory, the brain chunks two to three facts into one unit of information. Long term memory, however, is stored by significance and meaning rather than the sequence in which they were received. The two kinds of long term memory are implicit and explicit memories. Implicit memories are unconsciously remembered, like how to open doors. Explicit memories are consciously remembered. There are three types of explicit memory: episodic, semantic, and declarative. Episodic memories are memories of events that took place, like a memory of attending a party. Semantic memories are facts, figures, and general knowledge, like the capital of France. Declarative memories are of people, places, and things, such as names and faces (Foster, 2011; Greenberg, 1987; Fields, 2005). Both long term and short term memories travel between neurons, as does any memory. The structure that enables a connection between the neurons is called a synapse. Representation is important. Comic books are a type of media and minorities should be represented. As said earlier, comic books reflect life. So why should it not reflect the diversity of everyday life. One of the common arguments you will hear is that changing characters and adding diversity drives fans away. Effectiveness of the Tory and Whig Arguments Prior to the American Revolution In the eighteenth century, the American Revolution played a vital role in determining the future of the American colonies. Prior to the Revolution, propagandas from both the Tories and Whigs influenced the choices that Americans make. Both sides exchanged attacks and accusations in their publications, while also presenting realistic evidence and logical reasoning to back their doctrine and arguments. He then provides logical reasons for his claims throughout the document, focusing on the issue of those agreements. This structure is extremely effective, given that the arguments are sequential and connected. The document first proposes its doctrine, ...as much hath been said of the advantages of reconciliation, which, like an agreeable dream, hath passed away..., [3] and then answers each of the charges the Tories make. Unlike the structure of the earlier document, Common Sense poses a question or an accusation from the Tories, and rebuts it with the Whigs doctrine and Paine s reasoning. The structure of this document is more effective in terms of impact. As in the earlier document, the reverend does not counter Whigs view, but only express his opinions about them. Contrary, this document offers a scope of the Tories point, and persuades the Americans that the Whigs view is more logical by comparing the two sides. In short, Common Sense is more effective than the Letters of a Westchester Farmer in terms of structure, due to its more comprehensive reasoning behind the doctrines.
