Mission Sunday – Why Give?
Otis Gatewood began his book “You Can Do Per-
sonal Work,” with these words. “Be a good boy, Otis.”
Then he explained that these were the words spoken to
him by his mother as she was dying. Such words he said
made a profound impression on him for they were her last
words that she spoke. Likewise the last words of Jesus
should have a profound impression on each of us. Those
words spoken in His last meeting with His disciples be-
fore leaving this world were a command to “Go therefore
and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, 20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to
the end of the age"(Matthew 28:19, 20 NKJV).
Not all of us will be able to go. Not all of us will
have the ability to do the teaching, but we can all help by
giving to support those who can and will go and who can
and will teach the will of God. Thousands have been
taught due to the money we have given on Mission Sun-
day through the years and hundreds have been saved.
As long as the world stands and as long as God
requires of us the preaching of His will to all mankind, just
so long will there be the need for His children to freely
and willingly give to meet that need. When Paul wrote to
the church at Philippi he spoke of their gifts that had sup-
ported him in that work. Paul told them, “For even in
Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my neces-
sities. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that
abounds to your account” (Phil. 4:16, 17). The church at
Philippi had supported Paul in his work in Thessalonica
and this they did not just one time but “once and again.”
Not only that but they had sent support to him for the
work he did in Corinth. Paul told the church in Corinth that
he had “robbed other churches, taking wages from them
to minister to you.
9 And when I was present with you, and in need, I was a
burden to no one, for what I lacked the brethren who
came from Macedonia supplied. And in everything I kept
myself from being burdensome to you, and so I will keep
myself” (2 Cor. 11:8, 9).
Though Paul appreciated the gift, it was not the gift
that he looked for, but it was for the benefit it would bring
to the Philippians. The Philippians had been very kind
and generous in helping Paul and God would not forget
their kindness. God will remember and He will reward
them. Paul further described their gift as “a sweet-
smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to
God. 19 And my God shall supply all your need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:18b, 19).
The expression “sweet-smelling aroma” was the favorite
expression in the Old Testament for a sacrifice that
pleased God (Lev. 1:9). Therefore, the gift that had sent
to Paul was really a sacrifice that was pleasing to God.
Likewise the contributions we give to aid in the
teaching of God’s word throughout the world are a sweet-
smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to
God. Let us give freely, liberally and cheerfully that we
might please our Lord and fulfill a needed part in taking
the gospel into all the world.

Thank you
Our Nightly Revival Meetings which was held
from March 26 to March 29, in Corozal Town and
Libertad Village was a huge success. The meet-
ings were well attended and very encouraging.
The singing was enthusiastic. The prayers were
humbly and lovingly offered. The messages were
powerful and Biblical. The fellowship was rich
with you in unity and genuine love. I am thrilled to
inform you that 12 precious souls were added to
the body of Christ and one sister reconciled her
life to the Lord. I would like to express my sincere
appreciation to all my Brothers and Sisters from
the Corozal, Libertad and Deerfoot congregation
who help to make the Meeting a success. You all
did a fantastic job! You have impacted more lives
than you will ever know! Hats off to you! Through
the grace of God and His blessings, the Corozal
and Libertad congregation will continue to be a
bright shinning light in our community.
