Fad Diets And Its Effect On Obesity Essay
A fad diet is a weight loss plan or aid that over promises dramatic results. These diets typically don
t result in long term weight loss and they are usually not very healthy. In fact, some diets can
actually be dangerous to your health (Family Doctor.org). Fad diets promise excessive and
miraculous weight loss goals, however these dietsare proven by scientific evidence that they do not
promote long lasting results. Instead they are harmful and can promote rapid onset obesity. The
problem being presented here is that America s growing obesity problem directly correlates to
the fad diets. Americans would rather choose the quickest and easiest solution to their weight
issue. Many people who choose these fad diets range from people including: teenages, women of
all ages, and people who binge eat or are on the verge on obesity. The most important way to
identify the cause of this issue and the people who are likely to fall into these fads, is to evaluate
the history behind them, the types of fad diets and the what influences people to turn to them. The
first thing to acknowledge when analyzing fad diets is the history of them, A recorded history of
these diets dates back to 1825.(www.Latimes.com). To begin with, the first celebrity endorsed diet
was the vinegar and water diet. Developed in 1820. However in the 19th century the promotion of
arsenic pills were popular because they claimed to be able to speed up the metabolism.but as you

Troll Hunters
Play n Go developed an intriguing adventure into the world of mythical with Troll Hunters. Troll
Hunters is not new to the mobile casino world, but has recently removed the exclusivity tag making
it available on multiple casinos. Players explore the mountainous abodes of these captivating
creatures of legend, searching for their stash of treasure along with a bevy of voluptuous vixens.
Visually Vibrant
Troll Hunters uses a 5 by 5 grid design, shifting around to the various places the trolls like to live.
Each of these places may house a host of troll treasures. Players are able to take on the image of
three scantily clad female warriors, each entrusted with hunting down the troll s booty. Finding a
little meat left on the bone by the trolls, or a skull cap overflowing with a belly full of grog, keeps
a smile on player s faces as they trudge through this world of trolls. ... Show more content on

There can be as many as 20 free drops, which lead to huge payouts. These do not happen all too
often, but when they do the jackpots are enormous. Splitting the game into two different rounds
gives players two separate pay tables to earn bonuses.
Troll Hunter Strategy
The strange way the game applies bonus payouts, leads to a rather unusual series of winning lines.
Betting strategy is important to keep in mind, since the scatter line concept is used to place the
bonuses. However, when the right combination of symbols align, players need to be ready to bump
the betting line, plus take advantage of any collected free spins.
When the three Nordic Lasses join forces, which is the time to ramp up the wagers. Keep a keen
eye for the situations where the blonde warrior takes the lead. She pays out slightly higher than
either the red head, or the bodacious brunette. Players need to watch for the wild symbol and
combine that with the blonde warrior, because if the grid nails 5 in a row, winnings are multiplied
by 20 times the

The Power Of Nature In Robert Frost s To Build A Fire
People have control over many things such as the way they treat the earth, the ability to create life,
and the decisions they make but who really has the upper hand in controlling? We may
underestimate the power of nature when really, nature is what challenges us and has more control
over things we do not. People may try to overcome these challenges, but naturewill always have the
upper hand. This is a perfect example of Nature vs man since nature is capable of death, numbing
someone s senses, and huge disasters. Unfortunately the man in Robert Frost s short story, To Build
a Fire, went through some of the worst things nature can bring. To Build a Fire, portrays a good
example that nature is in control and extremely powerful due to the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Procurement
something especially by effort. In construction terms, procurement refers to the process of acquiring
something. (Encarta Dictionary, 2009)
Procurement is comes from the word of procure which is means to bring about and to acquire .
Method is about organized method, technique, process or procedure . Procurement method is an
overall management structure and specific management practices used in the project such as
houses, office buildings, shopping complex, roads, bridges, etc. (Rosli Abdul Rashid, 2006)

In this method, it is an obligation to complete the project within the contract period, however, the
client may accept a later date to account for delays resulting from reasons listed in the contract.
In Design and Build Method, the contractor is responsible for undertaking both the design and
construction of the work in return for a lump sum price. To arrive at a choice of contractor,
contractors are required to develop a design (from an initial concept prepared by the consultant
appointed to advice the client) to a certain level, prepare a tender figure and submit the whole
package which is termed a proposal to be evaluated to meet the satisfaction of the client. A team
of consultants will be needed to assess each contractor s proposal. Evaluation of tenders in this
case is usually difficult because the contractors are not working with one design. Tenderers should
be informed of the criteria to be used, and whether price is likely to be a prime factor (Nwachukwu,

Russian Culture Essay
Russian Culture When we hear the term Russian culture many Americans tend to have negative
thoughts like the cold war, their government ruling with an iron hand, and the Red Scare. These
thoughts do not do the justice to the Russian people or to their long history as a people dating back

This oneness with each other and with nature created strong communal bonds within Russia. In 988
Prince Vladimir of Kiev was baptized and he decreed that the Kievan land would adopt Eastern
Christianity.(Massie, 23) Although the Russianspeople changed religions they carried on their
core beliefs they went from viewing the Mother Earth as the source of life to venerating Mary as
the Virgin of Motherhood. The reason Vladimir decided to convert to Christianity was because of
the immense beauty his men saw when they visited the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, This desire
for beauty was translated into beautiful Russian art and music. The Orthodox liturgy continually
inspired poetry, music and art, for, unlike the Catholic liturgy in the West, it was from the
beginning the possession of the whole Christian people, who worshiped together in their native
Slavic tongue. (Massie, 28) An example of this is the Icon of the Virgin of Vladimir from the
early 12th century, and icon that depicts Mary holding Jesus as a baby.(Massie 43) During the
Mongol invasion many Russians were killed or sold to slavery, the Mongols crippled many
Russian cities and the power of the Russian prince s authority changed to be more like the authority
of the Khan. People became more and more accustomed to taking ordered and becoming soldiers.
The constant Mongol attacks forced people to move into the northern forests

Intrinsic Motivation, By Daniel Pink
At the point when a person arranges or needs to accomplish something, he or she has a motivation
for that particular thing. As it were, the point at which a person accomplishes something, that
person has a motivation behind why he or she ought to do that thing. Not generally there is
motivation to accomplish something, yet in some cases might be numerous reasons that are
support a person to take those activities to do it. Two of those motivations which Daniel Pink
discusses are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and how they are once in a while consolidated
together. Dweck in the other hand thinks as motivation in another way by intelligence praise. To

The History of Caterpillar Engines Essay
The History of Caterpillar Engines The start of Caterpillar engines actually begins before
Caterpillar was even a company. The history began back in the late1800 s when Daniel Best and
Benjamin Holt were experimenting with various forms of steam tractors used for farming. The
two competed with each other to gain the lead in the farm equipment industry. Throughout the
late 1800 s and early 1900 s Holt and Best continued to build both steam and gas tractors. In 1908
Best sold his company to Holt. In 1925 Holt Manufacturing and C. L. Best Gas Tractor, a
company owned by Best s son C. L. Best, merged to form Caterpillar Tractor Company. Three
years later C. L. Best met with Carl George Arthur Rosen to discuss putting diesel engines in...

This housing then directs the compressed air into the engine. After the use of the turbocharger
they discovered a new problem. The compressed air was much hotter than normal air going into
the engine. The reason was that when the air is compressed it puts pressure on all the atoms.
This causes the atoms to hit each other, causing friction, and move even faster. These rapid
movements cause a massive amount of heat. This excess heat caused less oxygen to get to the
cylinders which means a loss of potential power. Our answer to this dilemma was the aftercooler.
Aftercoolers are used to lower the temperature of the air after it comes out of the turbo but
before it enters the engine. By lowering the temperature the air becomes denser and holds more
oxygen. This increase in oxygen provides an increase in power. There are three types of
aftercoolers. The first is an Air to Air Aftercooler (ATAAC). With the air to air system, a
separate cooler core is placed in front of the engine. The engine fan then passed outside air
across the cooler. The outside air is much colder than the compressed air in the cooler. This
difference causes the compressed air to drop in temperature by losing its heat to the outside air.
This method is very common on most on highway trucks since they have access to a large volume
of fresh cool air. The second type of aftercooler is the Jacket Water Aftercooler

It is at first hand not understandable why many companies proceed in such an irrational way
although their goal should be profit maximization especially today where most markets are
commodity markets and cost advantages are low (Christopher, Ch.1). Companies in the pre
outsourcing time used to be very successful in profit terms and the change in strategic policy must
have more reasons than just an increased flexibility to compensate the abdicated advantages.
(1.3) Introduction into the Topic
At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century almost every market in the
world was a seller s market providing the companies with an extensive power since the customers
demand for goods was almost always higher than the manufacturers could supply (M. Christopher,
Logistics and SCM, Ch. 10, p. 287). This fruitful condition helped several companies that
possessed a small know how advantage to grow at unbelievable growth rates compared to today.
Responsible to a small extent is the fact that there was no need for big advertisement campaigns
entailing high advertising costs, but especially the fact that those companies had an immense
competitive advantage compared to smaller rivals. They possessed an advantage on economies

existence of consumption patterns is prominent to individuals within society. Consumption patterns
arise in order to distinguish class differences, a way of segregating the upper, middle and lower
classes of society from one another. Primarily, this essay will focus on consumption patters

The Beginning A History Of New Zealand s Ufo Activity
the Beginning... A history of New Zealand s UFO activity BY TONY LUCAS 12/01/2014 UFO
SIGHTINGS
Historically, most of the Northern Hemisphere holds the attention of many when it comes to
paranormal activity, UFO s, Cryptozoology and strange phenomena.
UFO
What I hope to bring forth in these articles is the often not heard of Phenomena that is just as
prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere.
As an Independent UFO Investigator myself I will however ask the readers forgiveness if I often
indulge myself in that field.
Being a New Zealander, it is often not recognized that New Zealand has many unheard of mysteries
and its fair share of UFO activity. We also have our own version of Bigfoot known as the Moehau,
also a mystery otter like creature, alien big cats, and more. Our nearest neighbor, Australia also has
its fair share of UFO sightings, Criptids (animals that are not known or presumed extinct), and
strange phenomena.
As a UFO Investigator, I like to make quite clear how easy it is to be fooled. Often, what we
think we see is not what it appears to be. In the case of UFO s, weather balloons, the planet Venus,
satellites and other man made phenomena are often mistaken for UFOs. My belief is that once you
have eliminated all the obvious and, sometimes the not so obvious, whatever you are left with must
be the answer.
New Zealand has a long history of UFO activity beginning in the late 19th century with the airship
flap of the period, when there was a rash of sightings of

Delta Sigma Based Digital Signal Processing
The proposed research focuses on Delta Sigma based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) circuits on
Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) systems for low power intelligent sensors in particular on
building systematic tools to study their design principles and fundamental performance limits of
energy efficient low complexity architectures and on the analysis of their practical advantages
and limits.
Integrated intelligent sensors has emerged in a wide range of applications including health care,
surveil lance, environment monitoring, smart buildings, and Internet of Things, etc, and has
significantly benefited society due to alleviating certain monitoring and processing tasks. However,
novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing
state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform
real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and
providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these
applications is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power,
which limits system battery lifetime or processing capability. Thus, these applications require the
design of low power signal processing hardware, especially multiply and accumulate (MAC)
circuits, which are widely used in linear signal processing algorithms. Accordingly, the goal of the
proposed research is to address these

The human brain is amazing. It detects and processes things when people don t even realize it.
One of these things is sound. People hear sounds all the time, whether they are conscious of it or
not. They hear meaning they detect sound and understand what they detect. Sound is
everywhere in the human life: the beep of an alarm clock, the whirr of a fan, the rumble of
thunder, the chirp of the birds, the whine of an ambulance, the sizzle of a frying bacon, the
clicking of a keyboard, the buzz of a cellphone, the patter of rain, or the flap of a flag in the wind.

The particles of the medium do not move permanently from their position (SantoPietro, 2013);
however, the particles adjacent to the object begin to move back and forth too, almost like a guard
on duty pacing back and forth, who, although he moves back and forth, does not move far from the
initial position. As these particles move back and forth, they bump into more particles, and the
process continues for a certain distance, depending on how hard they are vibrating.
This process of transferring the energy is called a sound wave. According to David SantoPietro
(2013), Wavescan transport energy through a medium without transporting the medium itself . In
other words, a wave does not transport particles, it transports energy through the particles.
Although many people think of an ocean wave when they think of a wave, which is composed of
water particles and primarily transports energy from wind, waves carry many more types of energy
than people realize sound and light, for examples. In addition, there are two types of waves:
electromagnetic and mechanical. Electromagnetic waves can transport energy through a vacuum
(an empty space with no matter), while mechanical waves cannot transport energy through a
vacuum. Light is an example of an electromagnetic wave, while sound is a mechanical wave. Then
there are three subtypes of waves: transverse, surface, and longitudinal. In a transverse wave,
particles oscillate perpendicular to the direction they are

Regulation of Violent Video Games
Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form
of Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video
games. It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge
that few children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video
games, dating back to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as
killing the bad person, driving dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology
including software, modern computers and other game related technology, the way in which such
violence and other extreme sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic.
Further, as more and more children are getting exposed violent games, there is a growing
awareness among both parents and the government for regulation of such games. Also, apart from
the fact that people were, in general, becoming more aware and conscious, numerous studies were
also being done to find connection between violent video games and the rate at which violence and
crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of a positive correlation. Incidents such
as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened concerns of a potential connection
between video games and violent actions. Many independent social workers including politicians
were continuously trying to evoke public response towards sale of such violent video

God and Man in Homer s Iliad, Virgil s Aeneid, and Dante s Inferno
The truest of man s goals is to create art. Art is a by product of the gift of man over the animals,
creativity. Truly, creativity is a replication of God in man and a very possible interpretation of
the Genesis 1:27 phrase in his own image, along with others the possession of an immortal soul or
the ability to speak. And creativity s ultimate end product is art. And art more often than not in the
history of man has led man to pay homage to his creator. Three of the classic literary artistic works

When Mercury delivers a message to Aeneas, he does not simply arrive, as Homer would have
written it. He jumps and flies and soars over many important places, with great and interesting
detail of his every twist and turn on his journey (Aen. 4.310 337). This illustrates not only the
further development of writing over Homer, but also possibly the Roman audience s lesser
belief in such gods, as they can t simply be to be believable. Lastly, sharply contrasting the earlier
two, is Inferno and the almost complete lack of God as a character. Instead of acting like the
father figure of the Old Testament, God in Inferno acts as he does in the New Testament, as a
being so mighty that he cannot be a character. He is present, but only through providence in the
first canto, Dante becoming lost in the Dark Wood of Error and finding Virgil helps him to return
to the True Way or messengers Beatrice (scattered throughout) or the angel that opens the gates of
Dis (Inf. 8.125 9.100). And as Virgil s over presentation of the gods shows his audience s lack of
faith, the nigh complete absence of God shows the extreme faith of Dante s audience: Christians
who for the most part claim to have never seen God working directly with miracles (and, of course,
the Judeo Christian concept of God being more abstract than the Greek or Roman mythic
anthropomorphism).

Increased Patient Responsibility
We like to think of medicine as a vast sea of knowledge, a science of certainty and applied research
intended to heal and cure. Patients visit their doctors expecting to be diagnosed, prescribed, and
treated. For several patients, this optimistic outlook is in fact the order of things. But, for many
others, medicineis an experimental endeavor and very human in nature. Atul Gawande, in his
collection of essays entitled Complications: A Surgeon s Notes on an Imperfect Science, sheds
light on this view of medicine as a field of possibilities and dead ends, improvements and failures.
In spite of the many changes brought forth by medicine, the evolution of the patient and doctor
relationship into one that redefines the role of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This once popular perception of medicine is in a sense antiquated. Still, by admitting that there
exists a discrepancy between the past and present views of the patient doctor dynamic, the
expanding role of the patient can be recognized. The riskiness and unpredictability of medical
care have made physicians more anxious in terms of the treatments they recommend to their
patients, such that the patients are now the ultimate authority with respect to their health.
Doctors today are taking a more liberal approach to medicine. This development has indirectly
provided patients with the freedom to explore their own personal medical goals. Gawande
describes the case of a twenty one year old woman who was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in
one of her breasts. Her surgeon, who normally advised his patients with breast cancer to undergo
a mastectomy, felt forced to reconsider this operation, as he was hesitant about removing the
breast of a woman so young. He instead discussed with her other possible treatment options,
explaining their benefits and risks (211). The patient, provided with the proper information and
resources, was given the opportunity to define her own well being. It was a decision that she
would have to live with for the rest of her life, and so only she had the right to make that decision.
Such issues have modified the patient experience by

The Scientific Systems Of Engineering Management
Introduction
Engineering Management refers to a specialized type of management which is primarily concerned
with the application of certain engineering principles to business activities or practice. In other
words, Engineering Management can be said to be a career which unites the technological problem
solving aspect of engineering and the administrative, planning, and organizational capabilities of
management to facilitate the efficient operation of activities within a sophisticated establishment
from the start to the end.
Primarily, Engineering Management focuses on the planning, installation, improvement, and design
of integrated systems of material, people, information, energy, and equipment. This is achieved
through utilization of specialized skills and knowledge in the physical sciences, social sciences, and
mathematical disciples. This knowledge and expertise are integrated into methods and principles of
engineering analysis and design (Haverila and Fehr 574). Through this incorporation, they can
evaluate, specify, and predict results that are likely to be obtained. The scientific systems in
engineering management are majorly responsible for designing, implementing, and developing
models to be used as the basis for evaluation and analysis of results. Comparative analysis is
achieved by taking into consideration the relationship that exists between engineering aspects and
the management duties such as organizing, planning, controlling, and leading. Moreover, these

Photosynthesis And Cellular Respiration Essay
Slide #1
Hello, my name is Audrey and welcome to my presentation on the chemistry of photosynthesis and
cellular respiration.
Slide #2
To begin, both systems are considered interdependent, which means that one is dependent on the
other. You can t have photosynthesis without cellular respiration and vice versa. Basically, they are
two sides to the same coin
Slide #3
The first side of the proverbial coin is photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is an endergonic reaction,
meaning that plants absorb light energy, in order to turn carbon dioxideand water into chemical
energy.
Slide #4
The very word, photo synthesis gives away what kind of reaction it is...a synthesis reaction. In this

Once our digestive system has done its thing, breaking larger down into smaller particles, the
resulting [products] are carried to our cells by our circulatory system to our tiny cells where cellular
respiration happens.
Slide #8
Unlike photosynthesis, cellular respiration is an exergonic reaction where energy is released,
rather than absorbed. This released energy is called ATP, the energy currency of the cell.
Slide #9
Also, unlike photosynthesis, cellular respiration is known as a decomposition reaction. During
this reaction, the exergonic release of energy is produced by breaking glucose down into smaller
ATP molecules, water and carbon dioxide which is released into the air, for use by plants, every
time we exhale
Slide #10
Like Photosynthesis, cellular respiration is also a redox reaction where glucose loses electrons and
hydrogen atoms to produce carbon dioxide causing the glucose to become oxidized. At the same
time, oxygen gains electrons and hydrogen atoms, reducing it to water.

Examples Of Narration In The Awakening
The style of the narrative point of view is vital in the meaning the author wishes to convey in
their novel. The narrative of the text is imperatively central in the way in which the events of a
novel are expressed to audiences, the way these are framed is very important in relation to the
effect it has on the reader s impression of the events. The basis of the reader s understanding and
opinion of the events in a text is hugely dependent on the outlook and perspective from which they

Starbucks s Marketing Plan For Starbucks
Introduction and Overview
Founded in 1971 at Pike s Place Market in Seattle, Washington, Starbucks coffee went from a high
quality, do it yourself whole bean retailer to an international 6.4 billion dollar empire. As of 2005,
there were 10,500 stores worldwide where customers could enjoy a cup of the internationally
recognized coffee at a convenient location. Starbucks achieved this through a series of strategic
movements all while offering a great in store experience and quality coffee.
After CEO Howard Schultz took over the company in 1982, he implemented an idea he derived
from Italian CafГ©s: Serving freshly brewed, high quality coffee in store. This idea allowed

that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great
service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on innovation; innovation did not necessarily mean
technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in
packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans.
Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several
successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and Macy s, to help manage the company and make
sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an
excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best.
Therefore, he invested more money in training his employees than marketing the brand.
The core Starbucks values described above take a more concise form in the company s mission
statement (See: Pg. 326, Exhibit 2). Put simply, those values are: 1) Respect for employees 2)
cultural diversity 3) product quality (including where it purchased beans and their preparation

Jack the Egomaniac in William Golding s Lord of the Flies
Having an individual take control over a group is inevitable. Adolf Hitler took over Germany; at
first he was appointed as chancellor but the Germans let him get away with taking over as
dictator (Truemen , 2013). It was out of fear that the Germans let him be in power. In Lord of the
Flies, William Golding utilizes Jack as the most important character in the novel because of how
his psychological personality affects the plot. Jack, much like Hitler, gains control by instilling
fear into the others and takes over as leader. Throughout the whole book Golding continues to use
Jack to twist the story. He stands in the way of the other boys success in getting off of the island.

Jack tries hard to turn everyone against Ralph by saying Hands up [...] whoever wants Ralph not
to be chief? (118). Jack pushes boundaries throughout the whole book because he was not elected
to be chief. He continuously tries to cast the group away from Ralph and begins to embrace
savagery and violence. Once again Jack displays himself as the id when he is trying to lure the
others away from Ralph so he can egotistically become in control of the group to get what he
wants. Jack picks on Piggy throughout the whole novel making Piggy seem inferior to
everyone; when Jack compares Ralph to Piggy, he is demoralizing him in front of the group and
creating the illusion that he is weak. [Ralph is] like Piggy. He says things like Piggy. He isn t a
proper chief. (50). From the time Jack met Piggy; he made him look foolish to the group, even
the littleuns disrespected him. Now that Jack compares Ralph to Piggy, he convinces the others
that he is better fit as a leader than Ralph. Jack uses his hunting skills as a bribe to wean the
others away from Ralph to his own tribe. I gave you food [...] and my hunters will protect you
from the beast. Who will join my tribe? (139). He tricks the other boys into thinking that he is
going to be a better chief but they only go to his tribe because they are mortified of the beast. Jack
uses their fear of the beast to control them. He makes his tribe sound so wonderful. Food and

Emergency Room Fees For Non Emergent Cases
Emergency Room Fees for Non Emergent Cases
Description of Problem
The Emergency Department (ED) is the highest cost environment to receive non emergent care.
The public views the ED as a safety net; more and more people are seeking treatment in the ED for
non urgent problems. This circumstance not only exacerbates overcrowding, it diverts attention
from critically ill or injured patients and can diminish the quality of their treatment. Overcrowding
in the ED is a problem that leads to delays in treatment and poor health outcomes (Hutchinson,
2015). ED overcrowding historically has been a problem seen most often in inner city academic
hospitals, but the issue is now a crisis in both urban and rural settings. Such use of expensive ...

People would receive treatment in non hospital settings such as physician offices, outpatient clinics,
urgent care centers, etc. Individuals continue to delay treatment or to seek care in the ER, both of
which ultimately increase the cost of caring for such individuals. Contrary to the perception that
the uninsured account for a disproportionate amount of the increase in ED use, most of the
increase in visits is due to increased use by insured people, specifically the privately insured
(Center for Studying Health System Change, 2004). A study, conducted in 2006, revealed that over
40% of the payer distribution in the ED were by private insurance (Gooch, 2010). Consequently,
hospital systems suffer financially in part because of millions of dollars in ED bills left unpaid.
To decrease inappropriate ED use, patients who arrive at the ED and do not need emergency care,
and are considered non emergent patients upon initial triage, should be given the option of
seeking treatment in a less costly setting, such as the nearby urgent care center, or paying $150
before they are treated in the ED. Pregnant women, children under five, and persons over the age
of 64 would be excluded from the up front fee policy.

Role of Violence in the History of Cinema
Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin
Tarantino have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts.
However, their different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino
films are nothing alike. This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel
afraid, tense, and anxious for the protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the
absurdity of violence by elevating the macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino
are brilliant directors who use violence in their films to achieve a desired effect.
These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas
Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcocks movies rarely if ever
show violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on
the viewer. The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does
not see anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and
Psycho as it is for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the
audience feels afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to
feel fear. In films like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely
unhindered. Severed limbs and other overtly gory

The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness
that will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming
barbarity depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime
in their island that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision.
The boys eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these
occurrences are epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the
boys that emerges ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of
civility, and the loss of innocence due to the inherent evils of humans.
The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting
the permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to
become savage. After the plane crashes, Ralph wanders about and observes that All round him the
long scar smashed into the jungle was a beat of it. He was clambering heavily among the
creepers and broken trunks when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashing upwards with a
witch like cry (7). The island full of birds and lush jungles was a blank slate, as it was once
unscathed by the evils of humanity; however, the plane crash introduces an unsightly scar on the
island that will never disappear as scars never heal completely. This scar reflects

In historic times; math was well known for helping Egyptian people keep track of their property,
money, taxes, livestock, land and sometimes people. Math did indeed help the Egyptian community

Amadeus, the Movie Essay
Amadeus begins with an attempted suicide by composer Antonio Salieri, who is overcome with
guilt about supposedly killing Mozart. His life is saved by his aids and he is sent to what looks
like a mental hospital, where a priest is sent to council him. The whole story is told through the
eyes of Salieri on his death bed, confessing to his priest. The whole movie takes place in Vienna,
Austria. Besides the first few scenes where Mozart is seen as a child, the story begins in 1782 when
Mozart is the age of 26; the story being told by Salieri takes place around 1825, near his death.

However Mozart never sees through his deception and thinks of his as a loyal friend and
colleague to the end. Constanze Mozart, played by Elizabeth Berridge, is the wife of Mozart.
She is by far the most sensible in the relationship. Throughout the whole movie she is concerned
of Mozart s frivolous spending and at some points, refusal to do work that really pays. She is
also extremely concerned of Mozart s physical and mental well being. She is also the only one
who can stand up to Mozart s father for him, calling him lazy and unappreciative. I was much more
fond of the symphony music played by Mozart, although there was not much featured in the movie.
I am not a big fan of Opera s to begin with, so I am a little biased when judging them. I found Don
Giovanni and the Opera written alongside Salieri more preferential; there was more substance
and feeling in those. The opera Figaro to be extremely boring; apparently so did Joseph II. It
was extremely slow with the same dark melody the whole piece. I most enjoyed the first Opera
commissioned by Emperor Joseph II. The whole piece was brilliantly put together, I can t imagine
how someone could put all those notes together and make is sound like it did. It reminds me of
listening to Jimi Hendrix on the guitar, or Bach on the Harpsichord. Mozart was an extremely
childish, immature person; yet one of the most talented musicians of all time.

Canterbury Tales and Religion

Canterbury Tales was written during a time of religious unrest. Corruption and greed infiltrated the
Church beyond the point of correction. Chaucer would have been well aware of these issues
growing up as a diplomat in fourteenth century England. His familiarity of the systems and
interactions between high ranking officials in the court and the church make him a reputable
source of criticism of the church and its affiliates. At a time when indulgences and monetary

effectively demonstrates her duality as a prioress obsessed by money. For being ...so full of

what she does. She begins by requesting that the Virgin Mary ...guide the song that [she] shall

and murder of little Christian boys. This peculiar coupling represents how dichotic her
personality is; she claims to live a life of piety, yet goes on to sin and ignore the needs of others.
The story is interesting because although the young boy does exactly what is expected of young
Christian boys (singing and praising God), Jews hear his singing and hire an assassin to Grab
him and [hold] him in a cruel grip, and cut his throat and [throw] him in a pit. Chaucer is
choosing to satirize how ridiculous it is for the Prioress to be blaming Jews. It is very easy and

How Tracheostomy Care Is Essential For Patients
Abstract
Tracheostomy Care is essential for patients who are in respiratory distress. Nurses need to prevent
complications and promote education to care for this device. Cleanliness of this device will keep
the patient health from deteriorating, and ultimately prevent any infections that could possibly
arise if the tracheotomy is not taken care of properly. The purpose of a tracheostomy may have a
myriad of reasons. A couple of reasons to perform a tracheostomy may be due to a blocked airway,
obstruction, or to be used to extended respiratory or ventilator support. Tracheostomy care is vital
for patients because it prevents any complications. According to John Hopkins Medical Center
(n.d), Early complications that may arise during the tracheostomy procedure or soon thereafter
include: bleeding, air trapped around the lungs (pneumothorax), air trapped in the deeper layers of
the chest (pneumomediastinum), air trapped underneath the skin around the tracheostomy
(subcutaneous emphysema), damage to the swallowing tube (esophagus), injury to the nerve that
moves the vocal cords, tracheostomy tube can be blocked by blood clots, mucus, or pressure of the
airways walls . Tracheostomy Care
Numerous research has been conducted on various reasons why tracheostomy care is gravely
important. There are several indications why a patient might need a tracheotomy. Research by
Morris, Whitmer, and McIntosh (2013), explain:
Indications for placing tracheostomy tubes can be grouped into

Shift In The American Political System
The American political system is one in which change occurs slowly and incrementally, if at all.
This long term stability prevents shortsighted populism from driving large scale changes that
potentially have long term impacts. Thus, if the American political system is trending on a path
that lends itself well to the fulfillment of the democratic ideals of equal voice, representation,
majority rule, and minority protection the stability of the system allows it to continue along this
path. However, when a number of these small, incremental changes reinforce one another toward an
unequal or unresponsive system these trends are just as difficult to reverse. This paper will examine

Skocpol (2007) shows that while as early as 1960 a number of national public interest groups
were structured in a way that promoted grass roots activism and required a number of local
chapters. These membership groups gained the strength to engage in activism through the number
of members they were able to mobilize. These interest groups, then, could claim to be
representative of the general public s interests because they were made up of members of the
general public. However, Skocpol further argues that beginning in the 1970 s there was a shift
toward more professionally run organizations. Instead of recruiting members to volunteer and
mobilize, these new groups featured predominantly professional members and functioned through
the use of lobbying. Instead of a high number of members, these new groups were primarily
focused on raising money in order to lobby for more narrow interests. In 2001, only 12% of all
Washington interest groups were associations of individuals (Schlozman et al.

In this report, I will be discussing operating systems, management of information, security and

will be inclusive of my internal assessments of which I have completed at school, and at home.
Operating software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and
software of a computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every
action and task which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software
for it to operate. Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise
operating systems, of which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the
computer s hard drive and is intangible. It includes the computer programs, folders, files and
documents. The internet browser, like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome that allows you to visit
online web pages and the operating system that the browser is running on is considered software,
while computer hardware is any physical device used in or with your computer or machine. It is
something you can physically touch. Examples of hardware include a mouse, monitor, keyboard
and motherboards. The interfaces of applications, device management, processor management,

Palka killed two police officers and escaped being caught one month later. Palka was charged with
first degree murder but later being convicted with second degree murder and sentenced to life
imprisonment. The state of Connecticut appealed and obtained a new trial, this time Palka was
found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to death. Palka appealed this under the fifth
amendment and argued that he was protected under double jeopardy which is being trialed for the
same case twice and claimed it applied to the state governments under through the Due Process
Claim, which I mentioned earlier, of the fourteenth amendment. Applying selective incorporation,
the court decided Palka s conviction on the premise of double jeopardy appeal was not a
fundamental right. Palka was executed in Connecticut by electric chair in the state of Connecticut
on April 12, 1938. This case was later overruled by Benton V. Maryland in the year 1969. The year

Is there anything more rewarding than a fish or a lobster at dinner that you caught earlier in the
day in the sizzling sun by the splashing waterfall? The concept aims at attracting a niche target
market of people living in the city, whose age ranges between 35 and 60 years. Due to the
exclusivity and exquisiteness of the concept, a high income, white collar market would be
favorable. Marketing would be sought through word of mouth, actually believed to be the
swiftest and most effective. Guests would be given the chance to engage in activities like
fishing, farming, gardening, reading, swimming, etc. Note that these will not be imposed, nor
will they be used in a promotional tour package, but they will be made available to those willing
to experience the richness of the earth and the mystery of its waters, in an effort to release stress
and bring back inner peace that is believed to have been long lost with modern times. The location
of the resort would be ideally located in the dense forests of Costa Rica on an exclusive location
targeting a mainly North American market. In addition, due to the relaxed ambiance of the product,
employees would be trained to meet the needs of this niche market with utmost informality in order
to stay in line with this green concept. A warm, relaxed, friendly, and even courteous, attitude
would be expected from the beginning of the experience. The secret is not to make the guest feel
like he/she is in yet another business,

The Importance Of Transportation Resources
The purpose of this paper is to inform incoming freshman about the resources that have been put
in place on campus at the University of Kentucky, specifically the transportation resources.
Being a freshman in college right now, I personally didn t know some of the free assets that are
available for everyone, had i known before, i would have utilized them more. UK is a very large
campus; according to usnews.com, the campus is 814 acres in total and has an undergraduate
enrollment of 22,621 students. Being this large of a campus, it is inevitable for students to have to
travel far distances to get to class or to just get where they need to go in general. This is where
transportation facilities become very important, because it may not always... Show more content on

This off campus alcohol consumption is still a concern. Traveling off campus may result in
intoxicated driving and that is the last thing that the university wants it s students to do.
In efforts to combat the problem, UK has implemented multiple forms of transportation which are
available to students to help them feel safe and make better decisions, even on the weekends. The
Wildcab, a free, late night, transportation service provided to students was specifically
implemented to function as a student uber. The Wildcab works by students requesting a ride
through the TransLoc mobile app and the driver will then pick you up at your given location. This
service only functions Thursday Saturday night from 10p.m. to 3a.m. As opposed to the Wildcab
service, that runs specifically on weekends, the Lextran and SAFECATS are other transportation
options that run specifically on the weekdays. The Lextran is a shuttle service that departs every
seven to ten minutes from 6:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. and makes multiple stops, circling around the entire
campus. SAFECATS stands for Safe And Free Escort for Campus Area Travelling Students. This is
a safety escort service that is run by the Air Force ROTC cadets, that picks students up on a golf
cart when they feel uncomfortable walking home on campus. The SAFECATS service runs Sunday
through Thursday from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30a.m. which is very convenient for late night study

Avoid My Sister s Couch Analysis
Trying to Avoid My Sister s Couch
It all started when I was in elementary school Amy and I would write, direct, act, and edit home
videos. To us it was entertaining, not realizing that later on in life I would return to this creative
endeavor to save my life. Once we entered middle school creating movies was considered uncool
, so we stopped making them. However, I didn t stop it was just the beginning. It was the summer
of 2003 when I was getting ready to go into middle school, but the universe had different plans for
me. My father and his friends brought Bruce Springsteen tickets and they decided to bring their
families along. I went to the show but the whole time I remember complaining of a headache. After
the show I fell asleep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I read the books and listen to motivational podcasts there s something that is
missing from my life. I know you have to think positive, act as if, believe, visualize, and have a
deep relationship with God. However I feel as though I am stuck. My friends are advancing in
their lives and careers. Then there s me, I recently got laid off from my job and I m scrambling
to find a new one, but I know in my heart that whatever regular job I get won t compare to my
dream job, which is to become a screenwriter. Although I try positive affirmations and crafting a
new vision board each year I m still stuck. How can I believe in myself when the people who are
the closest to me don t even believe that I can make it? They laugh at my ideas and they don t
want to hear what I say because they think I m too positive , unrealistic , or in la la land . I want
to prove to my haters, non believers, friends and family members that I can and I will make it,
but how can I do that when it s me going up against the world while I am trying to build my career,
self confidence, trying to get a new job, and deal with every day life situations? I think on the
outside I come off as a positive thinker, happy go lucky person, but I feel as though deep inside lies
the real me which is a pessimist who is scared to believe in

Cyberbullying Affects The Welfare Of Victims
Cyber Bullying There over thousands of cases where a child ended up taking their life because
that child fell victim to cyberbullying. As a nation we see cyberbullying everywhere it is
publicized on the news, in movies, and even books. Nobody wants to talk about it, just another
thing that is swept under the rug but its here in the world. There should be a law preventing cyber
bullyingbecause it affects the welfare of the victim, cyber bullying is a constant, and we are better

Altitude Sickness Essay
A perception of mountain people, who are often denigrated and ostracized for their dissimilarities
compared to the more modern civilizations, is that they lack cultural progressiveness and in most
cases are running backwards from the growing economic and social municipalities of the world. For
one thing, mountain people live in high altitudes that lack the necessary infrastructure for
development and most importantly, they live away from capitals and major cities. Therefore, they
are isolated from their capital s political and economic affairs. Due to this isolation, most mountain
people presume that their nation s government is a part of a separate entity that has no relation to
them. In other words, they believe that the government is selfish and doesn t care about their needs
for survival, therefore they must flourish on their own. Therefore, the mountain people adhere to
their own cultural and traditional ways of life and in most cases are... Show more content on

The one main aspect that connects the mountain people together, although many express cultural
and religious heterogeneity, is the fact that they are located in the danger zones of most political
boundaries, sitting right in between two superior powers. These potent powers then interfere with
mountain people s cultural and traditional ideas in order to benefit their own nation. In his article,
Altitude Sickness, S. Fredrick Starr states that, People who actually live in [high mountain zones]
are all too often [exposed to] spiraling violence due to issues with political and even local
boundaries (Starr 1). Frederick mentions the struggles taking place in Nepal s mountains is partly
because both China and India are inputting their own voices in the country s affairs, and are
eradicating Nepal s own voice and ideas. This instance is just one of many cases that occur in

Unnatural Causes
Aundria McCadney Unnatural Causes Not just a paycheck This video made a lot of sense to
me because not having a job can stress out you all types of ways. If a person has no source of
income, no provide food, have shelter, and pay bills this causes stress. The health disparities in
this video are from the employees being laid off, more ER visit was made from the stress which
causes chronic diseases to form. The employees had to watch their expenses and buy cheaper
food or find another way to work but for lower income. What is the job status of all employees
that got laid off? Did the employees find other work? Did they have to settle for a lower income
job? Some of their programs consist of employment fairs now, the unemployment checks, and in
the video if they were going to school they received more money. Place Matters In this video
where you live at is very important for access to healthy foods and to have a clean environment.
When a family is in a bad environment and no access to go to a market this is a set up to have
chronic health problems to occur later on. In lower class neighborhoods the video provided
information that tobacco, fast food, and liquor is easy to find rather than a fresh market or
grocery store. There are poor ventilation systems made in the homes and if a child has asthma it
increases hospital visits. This puts stress on the parents with more money and lack of sleep. I
would want to know the specific number or percentage of children with

Does Bee Make Honey
when bees get together to make honey, it isn t a fun process. matter of fact its a complicated hard
process that these small creatures go through. when the bee gets to the nectar; which is a liquid
plants make to attract pollinators, it drinks it and stores it in an organ called the crop or the honey
stomach.about 25 milligrams of nectar can be stored in this small organ until the beemust return to
the hive. after drinking the nectar, bees create enzymes, which includes inverse, disease and
amylase, the will break down sugars into more easily digestible simple sugars. now the bee has to
vomit up the nectar so that it can turn it into honey. house bees collect the vomit and then begin to
regurgitate it themselves to break the sugars down even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the bee drinks the nectar it goes into their crop, but they don t have to return to the hive right
away, the crop stores the honey for a long enough period from them to hop from one flower to the
next. have you ever wondered why flowers are usually bright and colorful? well those colors
help the bee located which flowers it should drink from because the bee cannot see the color red,
therefore when a bee is looking at a red flower it doesn t even know there is anything there, bees
normally see the colors blue, green, and ultra violet. Bees not only see different colors than us,
but they also see ultra violet light that is invisible to us. when a bee goes to get nectar it gets it
out of the center of the flower, which to the bee appears as a different color. a few more
interesting facts about bees are, the queen bee may lay up to 1500 eggs per day. the male bees
are called drones and the females are called worker bees. also did you know that a worker bee
will die shortly after its stinger is lost. so if a bee ever stings you, it cannot sting another person
because it will die without a stinger. The reason honey is sticky is because the bees will fan it to
dry out excess moisture within the honeycomb. all in all bees are very delicate hard working
creatures, and without them the world wouldnt be the

  • 2. Fad Diets And Its Effect On Obesity Essay A fad diet is a weight loss plan or aid that over promises dramatic results. These diets typically don t result in long term weight loss and they are usually not very healthy. In fact, some diets can actually be dangerous to your health (Family Doctor.org). Fad diets promise excessive and miraculous weight loss goals, however these dietsare proven by scientific evidence that they do not promote long lasting results. Instead they are harmful and can promote rapid onset obesity. The problem being presented here is that America s growing obesity problem directly correlates to the fad diets. Americans would rather choose the quickest and easiest solution to their weight issue. Many people who choose these fad diets range from people including: teenages, women of all ages, and people who binge eat or are on the verge on obesity. The most important way to identify the cause of this issue and the people who are likely to fall into these fads, is to evaluate the history behind them, the types of fad diets and the what influences people to turn to them. The first thing to acknowledge when analyzing fad diets is the history of them, A recorded history of these diets dates back to 1825.(www.Latimes.com). To begin with, the first celebrity endorsed diet was the vinegar and water diet. Developed in 1820. However in the 19th century the promotion of arsenic pills were popular because they claimed to be able to speed up the metabolism.but as you would guess, ingesting ... Visually Vibrant Troll Hunters uses a 5 by 5 grid design, shifting around to the various places the trolls like to live. Each of these places may house a host of troll treasures. Players are able to take on the image of three scantily clad female warriors, each entrusted with hunting down the troll s booty. Betting strategy is important to keep in mind, since the scatter line concept is used to place the bonuses. However, when the right combination of symbols align, players need to be ready to bump the betting line, plus take advantage of any collected free spins. The Power Of Nature In Robert Frost s To Build A Fire People have control over many things such as the way they treat the earth, the ability to create life, and the decisions they make but who really has the upper hand in controlling? We may underestimate the power of nature when really, nature is what challenges us and has more control over things we do not. People may try to overcome these challenges, but naturewill always have the upper hand. This is a perfect example of Nature vs man since nature is capable of death, numbing someone s senses, and huge disasters. Unfortunately the man in Robert Frost s short story, To Build a Fire, went through some of the worst things nature can bring. To arrive at a choice of contractor, contractors are required to develop a design (from an initial concept prepared by the consultant appointed to advice the client) to a certain level, prepare a tender figure and submit the whole package which is termed a proposal to be evaluated to meet the satisfaction of the client. A team of consultants will be needed to assess each contractor s proposal. Evaluation of tenders in this case is usually difficult because the contractors are not working with one design. This oneness with each other and with nature created strong communal bonds within Russia. The reason Vladimir decided to convert to Christianity was because of the immense beauty his men saw when they visited the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia, This desire for beauty was translated into beautiful Russian art and music. The Orthodox liturgy continually inspired poetry, music and art, for, unlike the Catholic liturgy in the West, it was from the beginning the possession of the whole Christian people, who worshiped together in their native Slavic tongue. (Massie, 28) An example of this is the Icon of the Virgin of Vladimir from the early 12th century, and icon that depicts Mary holding Jesus as a baby.(Massie 43) During the Mongol invasion many Russians were killed or sold to slavery, the Mongols crippled many Russian cities and the power of the Russian prince s authority changed to be more like the authority of the Khan. Not generally there is motivation to accomplish something, yet in some cases might be numerous reasons that are support a person to take those activities to do it. • 8. The History of Caterpillar Engines Essay The History of Caterpillar Engines The start of Caterpillar engines actually begins before Caterpillar was even a company. The history began back in the late1800 s when Daniel Best and Benjamin Holt were experimenting with various forms of steam tractors used for farming. The two competed with each other to gain the lead in the farm equipment industry. Throughout the late 1800 s and early 1900 s Holt and Best continued to build both steam and gas tractors. In 1908 Best sold his company to Holt. In 1925 Holt Manufacturing and C. L. Best Gas Tractor, a company owned by Best s son C. L. Best, merged to form Caterpillar Tractor Company. This housing then directs the compressed air into the engine. After the use of the turbocharger they discovered a new problem. The compressed air was much hotter than normal air going into the engine. The reason was that when the air is compressed it puts pressure on all the atoms. This causes the atoms to hit each other, causing friction, and move even faster. These rapid movements cause a massive amount of heat. This excess heat caused less oxygen to get to the cylinders which means a loss of potential power. Our answer to this dilemma was the aftercooler. Aftercoolers are used to lower the temperature of the air after it comes out of the turbo but before it enters the engine. By lowering the temperature the air becomes denser and holds more oxygen. This increase in oxygen provides an increase in power. There are three types of aftercoolers. The first is an Air to Air Aftercooler (ATAAC). With the air to air system, a separate cooler core is placed in front of the engine. The engine fan then passed outside air across the cooler. The outside air is much colder than the compressed air in the cooler. This difference causes the compressed air to drop in temperature by losing its heat to the outside air. This method is very common on most on highway trucks since they have access to a large volume of fresh cool air. The second type of aftercooler is the Jacket Water Aftercooler ... • 12. The Beginning A History Of New Zealand s Ufo Activity the Beginning... A history of New Zealand s UFO activity BY TONY LUCAS 12/01/2014 UFO SIGHTINGS Historically, most of the Northern Hemisphere holds the attention of many when it comes to paranormal activity, UFO s, Cryptozoology and strange phenomena. UFO What I hope to bring forth in these articles is the often not heard of Phenomena that is just as prevalent in the Southern Hemisphere. As an Independent UFO Investigator myself I will however ask the readers forgiveness if I often indulge myself in that field. Being a New Zealander, it is often not recognized that New Zealand has many unheard of mysteries and its fair share of UFO activity. We also have our own version of Bigfoot known as the Moehau, also a mystery otter like creature, alien big cats, and more. Our nearest neighbor, Australia also has its fair share of UFO sightings, Criptids (animals that are not known or presumed extinct), and strange phenomena. As a UFO Investigator, I like to make quite clear how easy it is to be fooled. Often, what we think we see is not what it appears to be. In the case of UFO s, weather balloons, the planet Venus, satellites and other man made phenomena are often mistaken for UFOs. My belief is that once you have eliminated all the obvious and, sometimes the not so obvious, whatever you are left with must be the answer. New Zealand has a long history of UFO activity beginning in the late 19th century with the airship flap of the period, when there was a rash of sightings of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Integrated intelligent sensors has emerged in a wide range of applications including health care, surveil lance, environment monitoring, smart buildings, and Internet of Things, etc, and has significantly benefited society due to alleviating certain monitoring and processing tasks. However, novel applications such as wearable biomedical devices require further miniaturization of existing state of the art hardware while having more signal processing capability due to the need to perform real time processing, i.e. not only monitoring but also detecting abnormal physiological signals and providing help by calling a hospital or ambulance. One fundamental problem with these applications is that the high performance signal processing circuit consumes too much power, which limits system battery lifetime or processing capability. Thus, these applications require the design of low power signal processing hardware, especially multiply and accumulate (MAC) circuits, which are widely used in linear signal processing algorithms. Accordingly, the goal of the proposed research is to address these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The particles of the medium do not move permanently from their position (SantoPietro, 2013); however, the particles adjacent to the object begin to move back and forth too, almost like a guard on duty pacing back and forth, who, although he moves back and forth, does not move far from the initial position. As these particles move back and forth, they bump into more particles, and the process continues for a certain distance, depending on how hard they are vibrating. This process of transferring the energy is called a sound wave. According to David SantoPietro (2013), Wavescan transport energy through a medium without transporting the medium itself . In other words, a wave does not transport particles, it transports energy through the particles. Although many people think of an ocean wave when they think of a wave, which is composed of water particles and primarily transports energy from wind, waves carry many more types of energy than people realize sound and light, for examples. In addition, there are two types of waves: electromagnetic and mechanical. Electromagnetic waves can transport energy through a vacuum (an empty space with no matter), while mechanical waves cannot transport energy through a vacuum. Light is an example of an electromagnetic wave, while sound is a mechanical wave. Then there are three subtypes of waves: transverse, surface, and longitudinal. • 15. Regulation of Violent Video Games Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form of Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video games. It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge that few children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video games, dating back to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as killing the bad person, driving dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology including software, modern computers and other game related technology, the way in which such violence and other extreme sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic. Further, as more and more children are getting exposed violent games, there is a growing awareness among both parents and the government for regulation of such games. Also, apart from the fact that people were, in general, becoming more aware and conscious, numerous studies were also being done to find connection between violent video games and the rate at which violence and crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of a positive correlation. Incidents such as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened concerns of a potential connection between video games and violent actions. Many independent social workers including politicians were continuously trying to evoke public response towards sale of such violent video ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Art is a by product of the gift of man over the animals, creativity. Truly, creativity is a replication of God in man and a very possible interpretation of the Genesis 1:27 phrase in his own image, along with others the possession of an immortal soul or the ability to speak. And creativity s ultimate end product is art. And art more often than not in the history of man has led man to pay homage to his creator. He jumps and flies and soars over many important places, with great and interesting detail of his every twist and turn on his journey (Aen. 4.310 337). This illustrates not only the further development of writing over Homer, but also possibly the Roman audience s lesser belief in such gods, as they can t simply be to be believable. Lastly, sharply contrasting the earlier two, is Inferno and the almost complete lack of God as a character. Instead of acting like the father figure of the Old Testament, God in Inferno acts as he does in the New Testament, as a being so mighty that he cannot be a character. He is present, but only through providence in the first canto, Dante becoming lost in the Dark Wood of Error and finding Virgil helps him to return to the True Way or messengers Beatrice (scattered throughout) or the angel that opens the gates of Dis (Inf. 8.125 9.100). And as Virgil s over presentation of the gods shows his audience s lack of faith, the nigh complete absence of God shows the extreme faith of Dante s audience: Christians who for the most part claim to have never seen God working directly with miracles (and, of course, the Judeo Christian concept of God being more abstract than the Greek or Roman mythic anthropomorphism). Patients visit their doctors expecting to be diagnosed, prescribed, and treated. For several patients, this optimistic outlook is in fact the order of things. But, for many others, medicineis an experimental endeavor and very human in nature. Atul Gawande, in his collection of essays entitled Complications: A Surgeon s Notes on an Imperfect Science, sheds light on this view of medicine as a field of possibilities and dead ends, improvements and failures. This once popular perception of medicine is in a sense antiquated. Still, by admitting that there exists a discrepancy between the past and present views of the patient doctor dynamic, the expanding role of the patient can be recognized. The riskiness and unpredictability of medical care have made physicians more anxious in terms of the treatments they recommend to their patients, such that the patients are now the ultimate authority with respect to their health. Doctors today are taking a more liberal approach to medicine. This development has indirectly provided patients with the freedom to explore their own personal medical goals. Gawande describes the case of a twenty one year old woman who was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in one of her breasts. Her surgeon, who normally advised his patients with breast cancer to undergo a mastectomy, felt forced to reconsider this operation, as he was hesitant about removing the breast of a woman so young. He instead discussed with her other possible treatment options, explaining their benefits and risks (211). The patient, provided with the proper information and resources, was given the opportunity to define her own well being. It was a decision that she would have to live with for the rest of her life, and so only she had the right to make that decision. Such issues have modified the patient experience by ... The Scientific Systems Of Engineering Management Introduction Engineering Management refers to a specialized type of management which is primarily concerned with the application of certain engineering principles to business activities or practice. In other words, Engineering Management can be said to be a career which unites the technological problem solving aspect of engineering and the administrative, planning, and organizational capabilities of management to facilitate the efficient operation of activities within a sophisticated establishment from the start to the end. Primarily, Engineering Management focuses on the planning, installation, improvement, and design of integrated systems of material, people, information, energy, and equipment. This is achieved through utilization of specialized skills and knowledge in the physical sciences, social sciences, and mathematical disciples. This knowledge and expertise are integrated into methods and principles of engineering analysis and design (Haverila and Fehr 574). Through this incorporation, they can evaluate, specify, and predict results that are likely to be obtained. The scientific systems in engineering management are majorly responsible for designing, implementing, and developing models to be used as the basis for evaluation and analysis of results. Starbucks s Marketing Plan For Starbucks Introduction and Overview Founded in 1971 at Pike s Place Market in Seattle, Washington, Starbucks coffee went from a high quality, do it yourself whole bean retailer to an international 6.4 billion dollar empire. As of 2005, there were 10,500 stores worldwide where customers could enjoy a cup of the internationally recognized coffee at a convenient location. Starbucks achieved this through a series of strategic movements all while offering a great in store experience and quality coffee. Starbucks valued simplicity and quality over technical mediocrity; in other words, Howard Schultz wanted to position Starbucks as a traditional coffee company, aligning with the coffee industries of Italy, Sumatra, and Ethiopia which are known for producing high quality coffee. He also recognized that convenient store locations were very important to the customers, in conjunction with great service. In addition, Schultz put emphasis on innovation; innovation did not necessarily mean technology as far as the coffee making process is concerned, but Starbucks did innovate in packaging to protect the flavor and freshness of the coffee beans. Moreover, Schultz organized an experienced corporate team composed of leaders from several successful companies, such as Nike, Deloitte, and Macy s, to help manage the company and make sure Starbucks continuously aligned with its proposed values. Yet, Schultz did not just strive for an excellent corporate management team; he also wanted his front line workers to be the best. Therefore, he invested more money in training his employees than marketing the brand. The core Starbucks values described above take a more concise form in the company s mission statement (See: Pg. 326, Exhibit 2). Emergency Room Fees For Non Emergent Cases Emergency Room Fees for Non Emergent Cases Description of Problem The Emergency Department (ED) is the highest cost environment to receive non emergent care. The public views the ED as a safety net; more and more people are seeking treatment in the ED for non urgent problems. This circumstance not only exacerbates overcrowding, it diverts attention from critically ill or injured patients and can diminish the quality of their treatment. Overcrowding in the ED is a problem that leads to delays in treatment and poor health outcomes (Hutchinson, 2015). People would receive treatment in non hospital settings such as physician offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, etc. Individuals continue to delay treatment or to seek care in the ER, both of which ultimately increase the cost of caring for such individuals. Contrary to the perception that the uninsured account for a disproportionate amount of the increase in ED use, most of the increase in visits is due to increased use by insured people, specifically the privately insured (Center for Studying Health System Change, 2004). A study, conducted in 2006, revealed that over 40% of the payer distribution in the ED were by private insurance (Gooch, 2010). Consequently, hospital systems suffer financially in part because of millions of dollars in ED bills left unpaid. To decrease inappropriate ED use, patients who arrive at the ED and do not need emergency care, and are considered non emergent patients upon initial triage, should be given the option of seeking treatment in a less costly setting, such as the nearby urgent care center, or paying $150 before they are treated in the ED. • 26. Role of Violence in the History of Cinema Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts. However, their different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino films are nothing alike. This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel afraid, tense, and anxious for the protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the absurdity of violence by elevating the macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino are brilliant directors who use violence in their films to achieve a desired effect. These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcocks movies rarely if ever show violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on the viewer. The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does not see anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and Psycho as it is for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the audience feels afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to feel fear. In films like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely unhindered. • 28. The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness that will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming barbarity depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime in their island that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision. The boys eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these occurrences are epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the boys that emerges ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of civility, and the loss of innocence due to the inherent evils of humans. The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting the permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to become savage. After the plane crashes, Ralph wanders about and observes that All round him the long scar smashed into the jungle was a beat of it. The context of this report will be inclusive of my internal assessments of which I have completed at school, and at home. Operating software (OS) An operating system has the ability to manage both the hardware and software of a computer or device. It is the most important part of a computer and controls every action and task which is carried out. Computers and devices require both hardware and software for it to operate. Without one, you will not have a functioning machine. All desktops utilise operating systems, of which the software (or OS) is a collection of code installed onto the computer s hard drive and is intangible. The concept aims at attracting a niche target market of people living in the city, whose age ranges between 35 and 60 years. Due to the exclusivity and exquisiteness of the concept, a high income, white collar market would be favorable. Marketing would be sought through word of mouth, actually believed to be the swiftest and most effective. Guests would be given the chance to engage in activities like fishing, farming, gardening, reading, swimming, etc. Note that these will not be imposed, nor will they be used in a promotional tour package, but they will be made available to those willing to experience the richness of the earth and the mystery of its waters, in an effort to release stress and bring back inner peace that is believed to have been long lost with modern times. Traveling off campus may result in intoxicated driving and that is the last thing that the university wants it s students to do. In efforts to combat the problem, UK has implemented multiple forms of transportation which are available to students to help them feel safe and make better decisions, even on the weekends. The Wildcab, a free, late night, transportation service provided to students was specifically implemented to function as a student uber. The Wildcab works by students requesting a ride through the TransLoc mobile app and the driver will then pick you up at your given location. This service only functions Thursday Saturday night from 10p.m. to 3a.m. As opposed to the Wildcab service, that runs specifically on weekends, the Lextran and SAFECATS are other transportation options that run specifically on the weekdays. The Lextran is a shuttle service that departs every seven to ten minutes from 6:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. and makes multiple stops, circling around the entire campus. SAFECATS stands for Safe And Free Escort for Campus Area Travelling Students. This is a safety escort service that is run by the Air Force ROTC cadets, that picks students up on a golf cart when they feel uncomfortable walking home on campus. • 47. Altitude Sickness Essay A perception of mountain people, who are often denigrated and ostracized for their dissimilarities compared to the more modern civilizations, is that they lack cultural progressiveness and in most cases are running backwards from the growing economic and social municipalities of the world. For one thing, mountain people live in high altitudes that lack the necessary infrastructure for development and most importantly, they live away from capitals and major cities. Therefore, they are isolated from their capital s political and economic affairs. Due to this isolation, most mountain people presume that their nation s government is a part of a separate entity that has no relation to them. In other words, they believe that the government is selfish and doesn t care about their needs for survival, therefore they must flourish on their own. Therefore, the mountain people adhere to their own cultural and traditional ways of life and in most cases are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The health disparities in this video are from the employees being laid off, more ER visit was made from the stress which causes chronic diseases to form. The employees had to watch their expenses and buy cheaper food or find another way to work but for lower income. What is the job status of all employees that got laid off? Did the employees find other work? Did they have to settle for a lower income job? Some of their programs consist of employment fairs now, the unemployment checks, and in the video if they were going to school they received more money. Place Matters In this video where you live at is very important for access to healthy foods and to have a clean environment. When a family is in a bad environment and no access to go to a market this is a set up to have chronic health problems to occur later on. In lower class neighborhoods the video provided information that tobacco, fast food, and liquor is easy to find rather than a fresh market or grocery store. When the bee drinks the nectar it goes into their crop, but they don t have to return to the hive right away, the crop stores the honey for a long enough period from them to hop from one flower to the next. have you ever wondered why flowers are usually bright and colorful? well those colors help the bee located which flowers it should drink from because the bee cannot see the color red, therefore when a bee is looking at a red flower it doesn t even know there is anything there, bees normally see the colors blue, green, and ultra violet. Bees not only see different colors than us, but they also see ultra violet light that is invisible to us. when a bee goes to get nectar it gets it out of the center of the flower, which to the bee appears as a different color. a few more interesting facts about bees are, the queen bee may lay up to 1500 eggs per day. the male bees are called drones and the females are called worker bees. also did you know that a worker bee will die shortly after its stinger is lost. so if a bee ever stings you, it cannot sting another person because it will die without a stinger.
