I.67% of Indian employers reported struggle to find workers who meet their requirements whereas 80% of the workforce in rural and urban areas do not possess any identifiable marketable skills 
II.The formation of NSDC was to enhance the skills of youth across India, it was targeted to train 150 million youth by 2022 
III.Yet, progress on this front has been slow at best. The National Skill Development Corporation and various other ministries have met only 16.5% of their target for 2012-13. A lot more needs to be done.

EYC MODEL - A PROPOSED SOLUTION

Reaching the lowest, providing support to rural and unorganised employees. Sustaining a public private partnership (PPP) skill enhancement module for rural areas. 
Industrial and marketing skills , Learning through working. Team work, flexibility, life skills development programs. 
Focussing on Certificate and vocational courses at college level. Periodic value addition through training modules 
Awareness and Counselling about prospective field of study. Career and Skill development programs / extra curricular activities. 
Multidisciplinary Aptitude Test At 10th level.
THE FIRST STEP Identifying Interests – The Test 
•Designing a Multidisciplinary Aptitude Test to analyse and assess the interests of oneself after completing basic secondary education 
•This will be intended only to understand the relation between one’s INTERESTS and POTENTIALS in three basic areas namely, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts , Science and Maths 
•It won’t be an academic test, no system of qualifying marks, it’ll have qualitative scoring schemes

THE NEXT STEP Counselling about future Prospective 
•Making students cognizant about their identified field of interest 
•Telling about the market scope and demand in their respective field 
•Introducing mandatory career development programmes, for enhancing employability skills, in schools and colleges 
•Increasing managerial skills based extra-curricular activities at college level

•Certification courses to enhance the skills in the chosen field of interest 
•Vocational courses to boost co-curricular skills which are non assessed during the academic course 
• Training modules to develop skills according to industry requirements 
•Introducing technical internships which also involve value addition programs

•Developing flexibility to adapt to the continuously changing technology, work environment and responsibilities 
•Learning to work as a team at the work place 
•Upgrading commercial awareness via market research 
•After the implementation of EYC model, the youth becomes competent enough to meet industrial challenges and market demand

BEYOND EYC Reaching the lowest 
•Rural India needs a reliable employability skill development module 
•A skilled youth after implementation of EYC can contribute to this module 
•The module will be based on PPP model and implemented through NGOs and social welfare organisations 
•Strengthening the primary education in rural areas through this public private partnership is the first step

EYC Enhancing Youth Employability and Skillsets

CURRENT SCENARIO Statistics and the loopholes 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 Expected Employments every month ( in lakhs ) Total Unemployable Employable 3 I.67% of Indian employers reported struggle to find workers who meet their requirements whereas 80% of the workforce in rural and urban areas do not possess any identifiable marketable skills II.The formation of NSDC was to enhance the skills of youth across India, it was targeted to train 150 million youth by 2022 III.Yet, progress on this front has been slow at best. The National Skill Development Corporation and various other ministries have met only 16.5% of their target for 2012-13. A lot more needs to be done. Graph Data acquired from - Anand, G.   • 5. EYC MODEL - A PROPOSED SOLUTION 4 Reaching the lowest, providing support to rural and unorganised employees. Sustaining a public private partnership (PPP) skill enhancement module for rural areas. Industrial and marketing skills , Learning through working. Team work, flexibility, life skills development programs. Focussing on Certificate and vocational courses at college level. Periodic value addition through training modules Awareness and Counselling about prospective field of study. Career and Skill development programs / extra curricular activities. Multidisciplinary Aptitude Test At 10th level.

THE FIRST STEP Identifying Interests – The Test •Designing a Multidisciplinary Aptitude Test to analyse and assess the interests of oneself after completing basic secondary education •This will be intended only to understand the relation between one’s INTERESTS and POTENTIALS in three basic areas namely, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts , Science and Maths •It won’t be an academic test, no system of qualifying marks, it’ll have qualitative scoring schemes 5

THE NEXT STEP Counselling about future Prospective •Making students cognizant about their identified field of interest •Telling about the market scope and demand in their respective field •Introducing mandatory career development programmes, for enhancing employability skills, in schools and colleges •Increasing managerial skills based extra-curricular activities at college level 6
  • 8. •Certification courses to enhance the skills in the chosen field of interest •Vocational courses to boost co-curricular skills which are non assessed during the academic course • Training modules to develop skills according to industry requirements •Introducing technical internships which also involve value addition programs 7 A STEP AHEAD Training for boosting skills

THE IMPLEMENTATION STEP Learning via Working •Developing flexibility to adapt to the continuously changing technology, work environment and responsibilities •Learning to work as a team at the work place •Upgrading commercial awareness via market research •After the implementation of EYC model, the youth becomes competent enough to meet industrial challenges and market demand 8

BEYOND EYC Reaching the lowest •Rural India needs a reliable employability skill development module •A skilled youth after implementation of EYC can contribute to this module •The module will be based on PPP model and implemented through NGOs and social welfare organisations •Strengthening the primary education in rural areas through this public private partnership is the first step 9
