My Favorite Hobby Baseball Research
Today I am here to talk about my favorite hobby, baseball. Growing up baseball has been a big part
of my life. Some of the first memories I have and can remember are going to my grandparents
house and playing wiffle ball in the back yard with my grandpa and dad.One of the hardest things
to do in sports is hit a baseball. Some of you may disagree with this statement. However all hitting
coaches will preach to square up the round baseball with the round bat. Some of you may be
saying to yourselves that does not sound to hard. How are you suppose to square up two round
objects? This just doesn t make since.Secondly not only is it hard enough to hit a fastball when
you are ten years old just starting to play the game. When you get to the college

British Rule in India at the End of the First World War
British Rule in India at the End of the First World War By the end of the First World War the
British Rule in India was still powerful, but would soon break down. However, thousands of
Indians fought in the war hoping that in return they would be given home rule. It would have been
difficult to win without the invaluable help of the Indians and their constant supply of manpower.
India was a vast supplier of raw materials to Britain and would in return buy British manufactured
goods. Two thirds of India was governed by the British, whilst the remainder was governed by
Indian princes. The princely state rulers kept their power by signing treaties with the British.

However, there were outbreaks of violence in Punjab, which grew worse when the British
government failed to make any statements of home rule. Indian involvement in Government
during this period was encouraged by trying to give the Indians more political power, without
giving them all the power. Also, by the many attempted acts which many Indian s accepted but
were also opposed by the people who were expecting complete home rule. 2. In what ways did the
British government attempt to change the government from 1919 to 1939? (15) The British
government s attempts to change the government were its numerous acts to satisfy the Indian
opinion, as this is partially the main purpose of why all these acts were introduced (to satisfy the
Indians). The first Government of India act was passed in December 1919 and put into effect The
Montagu Chelmsford Reform which set up a system know as the Dyrachy. To advise the Viceroy
an Executive Council was also set up. Then, in 1927, the Simon Commission was selected to
evaluate the workings of the Montagu Chelmsford Reform. The Rowlatt Acts were intended to
extend the Defence of India Act into peacetime. This act would enable the government to arrest and
imprison any troublemakers without trial and allowed judges to try

Gettysburg Address Dbq
President Abraham Lincoln gave a speech on the grounds where thousands of people died after the
Gettysburg Address; the controversy lies whether the Gettysburg Address was significant or not.
There are two sides to every story in this case there are the ones who believe the address was
important and then there are ones who thought the address had no significance. The Gettysburg
Addresswas full of logic and professionalism. This being the case some might argue against
Lincoln saying the speech was more like good poetry, rather than a speech to the country. Were the
Presidents words to professionally toned? Adams, the man opposing the speech, later notes there
were mistakes and falsehoods in the words Lincoln used in his speech, consequently,

Systematic Review Paper
Abstract
Traditionally, systematic reviews (SR) are descriptive secondary research, which may or may not
be accompanied by statistical methods (metaanalysis) of pooling the results of primary,
quantitative studies to answer a clinical question or test a hypothesis (Chalmers 1996). Similarly,
qualitative primary studies can be pooled and synthesised in order to develop new theories to aid
decision making, re shape policies, and influence professional practices. Over the past 20 years,
patient and public involvement (PPI) in research have become increasingly crucial, which has
fuelled the increasing popularity of qualitative research as better ways of incorporating public and
patient views into health, social and economic policies. There is however a confusing array of
methods available for conducting secondary qualitative research. In this paper epistemological
concepts guiding a number of methods are discussed. The consensus on enhancing transparency in
reporting the synthesis of qualitative research (ENTREQ) is also reviewed
Introduction
Synthesis of qualitative data has never been as popular as meta analysis. It is however
becoming an increasingly useful secondary research tool in a diverse area of problem solutions,
ranging from leadership and management problems (Walsh 2005; Galuska 2012), sociology
(Wilder 2014) to clinical research questions (Beck 2002; Kennedy et al. 2003 and Orri 2014).
Secondary research could be part of a course work, dissertation or thesis,

Smallpox Is An Acute Contagious Disease
SMALLPOX Introduction Smallpox is an acute contagious disease that is caused by the variola
virus which is a member of the Genus Orthopoxvirus family. It infects humans only as a result of
its ability to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003).
The virus is a two stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the
variola major and variola minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not
lethal but a mere strain. The most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more
severe symptoms and with a higher fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection
(Koplow 2003). Key features of the life cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the
host cell and infects an individual. It normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to
the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed
hence permitting penetration and movement into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell
membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the host cell, the main protein in released
(Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host cell. DNA replication and
transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for replication and
transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow 2003). First,
the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription

What Are The 5 Self-Defense Tips For Wheelchair Heroes
5 Self Defense Tips for Wheelchair Users
Believe it or not, wheelchair users can often find themselves a target of criminals. Wheelchair
users are not as mobile as some sneaky thieves, but you don t need to be overcome with fear if
you are a wheelchair user. The self defense techniques below will provide protection from attackers.
1. Your Wheelchair is your Weapon
Most criminals falsely believe that wheelchair users are easy helpless targets. But your wheelchair
can actually be used as a weapon. Thieves don t see it that way which is an advantage to you and
you can easily surprise your attacker. Just thrusting your wheelchair forward and whacking them in
the shins is enough to cause them great pain. Most of them fall forward and you can

I Am A Doctor Who Works With Skin Diseases
Ever since I was in eighth grade, I have wanted to be a pediatric dermatologist a doctor who
works with skin diseases in children. When I was younger, I really had no idea what career I
would be interested in. Every time an adult would ask, What do you want to do when you grow
up? I would either say I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast or a singer or both, despite the fact
that these were not, and still are not, the most realistic career opportunities for me. When I was
in eighth grade, I figured out what career I wanted to have when I was older. It was then when I
started getting these weird bumps on the skin of my hands and feet. These bumps were not life
threatening, just uncomfortable and annoying, but I wanted the bumps to be cured. I went to a
pediatric dermatologist hoping that she could diagnose these bumps and cure them. Instead of a
cure or even a definitive diagnosis, I had to get two different biopsies that both came back
inconclusive and also had to try different ointments and creams that would only get rid of the
bumps for a little while if at all. This process of constant experimentation and uncertainty lasted
for a whole year and was very frustrating. Finally, my dermatologist finally told me that it was
possibly Granuloma annulare, which is an autoimmune disease, but that diagnosis was not
definitive. She said, You know that saying that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it
probably is a duck? Well, if it looks like Granuloma annulare, then

To what extent can developmental dyslexia be explained by...
Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability
characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common
definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose
reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexiawas reported in
1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to
read, as suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in
visual processing. Since Pringle Morgan s initial report, there have been many other explanations of
dyslexia. This essay will attempt to evaluate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families
with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and
speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the
phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in
speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real
world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop
dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There
has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or
cerebellar abnormality.
Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory
is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The
visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by
deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is
responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if
our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on
target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that

INTRODUCTION David Edmondson of Yahoo and Scott Thompson of RadioShack were just
two names in the long and confounding list of prominent people who had embroidered or
falsified their rГ©sumГ©s and were felled for doing so. This list includes a former Notre Dame
Football coach, chief executive of Bausch Lomb, a director of the Federal Emergency
Management Agency and an MIT admissions director. In this reaction paper I focus on this very
issue of rГ©sumГ© falsification and analyze how such cases ought to be dealt, from an ethical
stand point. The issue is analyzed using the cases of Scott Thompson and David Edmondson,
former CEOs of Yahoo and RadioShack respectively. The paper starts by providing a brief
overview of the above mentioned cases... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David Edmondson, on the other hand, had been an employee with RadioShack for 11 years
before he was appointed as the CEO. In an investigative report, Star Telegram revealed that
Edmondson had also falsified his rГ©sumГ© by stating that he had degrees in psychology and
theology. Star Telegram revealed that the Pacific Coast Baptist College did not even issue
degrees in psychology, and that they only issued a diplomas in theology. David Edmondson s
name was also not found in the College records. Edmondson contested that he remembered to
have completed his diploma in theology, but he could not support his claims. He eventually
stepped down as the CEO as well. ETHICAL DILEMMA Both Yahoo and RadioShack, had to
find solution to the following questions How serious of an offence was it for a CEO to have
lied on the rГ©sumГ©? Should a CEO be sacked for falsification of the rГ©sumГ© or should he
be retained in the company on the basis that his performance as a CEO has little bearing on his
degree? Should the company also impose a sanction on the CEO? What are the implications on
the company in choosing either of these options? MODEL BASED ANALYSIS Using Mihnea
Moldoveanu s model, we try to identify the agents in both the cases and build a choice based
model of the situation. It is clear from the case background that Scott Thompson and David
Edmondson were the active agents since they had an opportunity to make a choice, the choice of

Essay about Jacob A. Riis
Jacob Riis book How the Other Half Lives is a detailed description on the poor and the destitute
in the inner realms of New York City. Riis tries to portray the living conditions through the В‘eyes
of his camera. He sneaks up on the people flashes a picture and then tells the rest of the city how
the В‘other half is living. As shocking as the truth was without seeing such povertyand horrible
conditions with their own eyes or taking in the experience with all their senses it still seemed like a
million miles away or even just a fairy tale. The reality of this book hit the people of New York
right between the eyes. Riis was once ascribed the label of lower class society, but worked his way

Although he does possess quite a bit of bigotry that boarders on the line of prejudice when it
comes to African Americans he recognizes that they are suffering from racism and he sympathizes
with them. With his sympathy comes an attitude of superiority, he looks down on the people in
poverty because he was once there and knows with hard work, like he has done, you can pull
yourself up by the bootstraps and make something better with your life.
Riis covers many aspects of the poverty that has stricken the tenement lodgers but when talking
about one end of the spectrum (poor) you also need to discuss the other (rich). With out telling
people how the other half of the other half lives he s leaving out a crucial part of how people live
in New York. By avoiding, that topic he s giving the illusion that all people in New York live in
such cramped housing as tenements. When in reality New York was and is presently not composed
of strictly tenement housing. There was a В‘rich part of town where the thought of not having any
money was never even contemplated. In addition, where the industrial revolution only touched
higher societies on positive outcomes such as economics the industrial revolution only made it
harder for the immigrants to get ahead. By this, meaning, that they worked harder, got paid little to
nothing, and still had to compensate for the short comings that where being pressed against them

The Debate On Marriage And Parenting Rights For Gay And
The debate on marriage and parenting rights for gay and lesbian individuals has been one of the
most hotly contested social issues in recent history. While many arguments are cited to prevent gay
couples from enjoying equality, these arguments ultimately condense to concerns rooted in
homophobia. Opponents of the LGBT community contend that same sex parenting contradicts the
natural order of the world, subjects children to unnecessary societal stigma, and that the state has a
right to favor heterosexual norms. However, these concerns are either unfounded or unjustly
infringe on the rights of gay and lesbian couples. Consequently, there is no reason to prohibit gay or
lesbian couples from obtaining custody of children. Proponents of the... Show more content on

Therefore, it is unjust to use the same argument to prevent gay couples from adopting. Skeptics of
gay and lesbian parents also raise the concern that the children of same sex couples would be
subject to stigma from society. They argue that gay parents should not be granted custody rights
because their children would be subject to unnecessary ridicule by their peers. In short, their
position is that children should not be placed into harsh conditions simply due to their parents
sexual behavior. While the well being of the child is an important concern in custody matters,
stigma that exists within society must not be written into law. Bigotry is an unfortunate component
of human nature, and it will likely never be erased completely. The law cannot control these
biases, but it should not be influenced by the fleeting passions of the time. If the law gives biases
that exist within society legitimacy, they will merely be reinforced for generations. Furthermore, a
primary purpose of law is to serve as a guardian of the minority rights. Basic rights must be
enshrined in law so that they are insulated from tyrannical majorities that might act with malice
toward a minority group. Preventing gay couples from adopting because society holds a bias against
them unjustly sacrifices a crucial liberty for homosexuals. The Supreme Court has ruled that racial
stigma cannot have an influence

Essay about Managed Care
Managed Care
There are so many problems with our society s health care. Everyone wants to find a
solution, but no one has been able to come up with one yet. Many different things have been
tried, but none have put a cease to the exorbitant costs, which most believe to be the main
problem. Out of everything tried, the most recent and popular system is known as managed care.
Managed care is the most common form of health insurance in the United States, and provides
more a cost efficient coverage than paying a fee for service charge. However, it is also a very
complicated system. Over the next few pages I am going to try and go over the main parts of the
managed care structure. In the end, I am going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the goals have not yet been met, managed care has
continued to grow throughout the past four decades. At the end of 1996, there were over 600
HMO s in operation, enrolling around 65 million members, which is about 1/4 of the population
(Tufts 1998).
Before I get into the different types of managed care organizations, I am going to go over
some cost control methods in managed care. Managed care organizations are different methods
used to control utilization of services. Utilization management requires three things. First, you
have to have an expert evaluation of which services are medically necessary in a given case. This
ensures that unnecessary services are kept to a minimum. Secondly it requires a determination of
how those services can be provided most inexpensively, while maintaining a high level of
quality of care. It also requires a review of the process of care and changes in the patients
condition to revise the course of medical treatment if necessary. The methods that are most
commonly used for utilization monitoring and control are choice restriction, gatekeeping, case
management, utilization reviews, and practice profiling.
The first method I am going to talk about is choice restriction. Traditional health
insurance gave the insured open access to any provider. This led to an over use of services. Most
of the managed care plans have some sort of

Criticical And Applied Philosophy Of Mary Wollstonecraft
Mary Wollstonecraft, born in 1759, is known as one of the world s most influential liberal,
feminist authors. With her literary works appalling the world with her radical ideas in a fairly
conservative time period. She is renowned to have her feminist, but also rational, views on equal
rights and education as all she wanted was women to not be excluded from men. The topic of this
essay is Wollstonecraft s basic theoretical and applied philosophyin relation to her role in the
movement of Romanticism, her ideas on enlightenment, and her criticisms regarding her
rationalism. This essay will also discuss if I agree or disagree in part or in whole with
Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft s basic theoretical and applied philosophy is based on the ideas of
God, reason, sentiments of humanity, the European Enlightenment, romanticism, universal human
rights, human progress in virtue and happiness, and more. When it comes to her moral knowledge
and understanding, Wollstonecraft is not to be criticized for being too much of a rationalist for
failing to give proper place to the emotions because she bases it on reason and does give emotions a
proper place. Wollstonecraft gives a key role to the natural human sentiments and emotions of
humanity when it comes to moral perception, understanding, and knowledge and she has a place in
the movement of Romanticism as she vindicated for women s rights at the time and she provided a
transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism. In terms of

The Pigman Friend Quotes
Friends are the family you get to choose for yourself. (Mia Sheridan). People get to choose their
friends by their likes and dislikes, but they don t get to choose their family. In the book, The
Pigman, John, Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati demonstrate how friends can change the way their friends
think, feel, and act. Many of the characters parents show the way one s family can influence bad
habits in one s life. The friendswe choose help us make the best memories; John and Lorraine
make the best memories with their friend Mr. Pignati more than their family. Sometimes, the
closest families are not related to each other. Friends can change each other s state of mind.
Throughout the novel, many of the characters show how they have changed, or tried to change,
each other s mind by what they do, how they act, or how they think. Lorraine says of John, I have
tried to explain to him how dangerous it was, particularly smoking... (Zindel 8). That quote shows
how Lorraine tries to change John s mind about how drinking and smoking can be harmful. In

Sears Performance Management Implementation
Performance Management Implementation According to Sears Holding, Sears is the leading
integrated retailer. This retailor focuses on everything from digital to physical shopping
experience. Sears is known for their Shop Your Way, which is a social shopping website that
enables members to receive rewards for shopping at Sears and Kmart as well as other partners
according to Sears Holding. The company generally operates through subsidiaries that include
Sears, Roebuck and Co and Kmart. According to Forbes, Sears reportedly made over 1 billion in
profit in 2017. Unfortunately, before 2017 Sears revenue reportedly continued to fall. According
to Kern and Rucci, Sears developed a conceptional model of performance that links employees,
customers, and shareholders in a causal chain. The model is known for three C s, creation of a
compelling place to work, compelling place to shop, and a compelling place to invest (Kirn,Rucci,
Huselid, and Becker,1998). In 1995, Sears put together a team of skilled econometrics to help gather
data from 800 stores throughout the system (Kirn,Rucci, Huselid, and Becker,1998). The analyses
gathered confirmed that Sears corporate financial performance is the issue that is lagging the
organization behind but this information didn t really provide detailed information. After
experimenting, Sears was able to create a conceptual model of a casual chain, involving employees,
customers, stakeholder (Kirn,Rucci, Huselid,and Becker,1998). The strategic

Fear In Beowulf
The Ultimate Emotion Fear is the ultimate emotion because it is both mankind s greatest strength
and greatest flaw. It gives us reason, but can also be irrational. If one can surpass their fears, it
can reward them greatly. Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel Defoe, follows a life of an adventurer from
a young age and his story of traveling the world. Robinson, the main character, gets into many
dangerous situations, from being enslaved by pirates, to being shipwrecked and being stuck on a
deserted island. Robinson has to conquer many fears. Another story that fearis prevalent in is
Beowulf, which follows the story of a supernatural human, Beowulf, who fights multiple monsters
that no mortal could defeat. Lastly, fear is prevalent in The Wife... Show more content on

The theme is given in short and repetitive bits. Additionally, Defoe shows this in the way he
reacts to seeing the footprint on the beach. He fears that first it is the devil, but then fears what
is the truth, that there are cannibals on the island. He ends up overcoming that by thinking to
himself I do not mean, that I am entertain d by any Fear of their Number; for as they were naked,
unarm d Wretches, tis certain I was superior to them (Defoe 232). He uses logic to get over the
fear of the cannibals, realizing he should not be afraid because they do not have any guns and
though they have the numbers they are not immensely intelligent. In Beowulf, the plot
development is in one big umbrella and then separated into three, in each battle. In the third part
of the plot development of the theme is when Beowulf fights the dragon. Wiglaf, one of Beowulf
s followers, is overcome with fear when he sees the dragon and needs to fight it, so he proceeds
to run away. However; when Beowulf needs him, he faces his fear and eventually defeats the
dragon. As Beowulf is dying for his bravery Wiglaf is awarded his kingdom, once again proving
that if one faces their fears they can secure the benefits. What I leave, Wiglaf, lead my people,
Help them, my time is gone. (Beowulf l. 811 812). In the Wife of Bath s Tale the theme is derived
from a plot development as well, but only a single event makes it that

Lifting A Truck Essay
When we think of the word big trucks you think of monster trucks first but it actually can also
mean the big tall lift of a truck and that is how monster trucks came to be. Lifting a vehicle over
the legal height is not allowed on the streets because of how big the vehicle is when modified
and can run the risk of running people off the road or over their car. When lifting a vehicle
started out it was for the everyday man or woman who was interested in mudding there vehicle to
the max and now it has became much more popular because people love the thrill of riding higher
than everyone else and can still mud in their everyday driver. The method of lifting a vehicle was

The lifts were starting to go into the favor of the law again and when it did the changes were
starting to make people upset and tired of all the law changes. In Illinois you can t lift the body
from the chassis more than 3 inches. In terms of bumper height, a GVWR(gross vehicle weight
rating) of 4,500 pounds or less and your front bumper can t go higher than 24 inches. GVWRs
between 4,501 and 7,500 pounds determine the maximum height of 27 inches at the front and 29
inches at the rear. Finally, if your truckis between 7,501 and 9,000 pounds, the allowable
alteration is a maximum height of 28 inches in front and 30 inches in back. The laws of lifting
were made to help keep the safety of the road and not to make everybody run off the road
because of a big lifted truck heading down the road. When the lift wasn t enough the tires
became the next big thing and the tries acted as a lift kit as well. The big tires added as much as

Arthur Dimmesdale and John Proctor s Guilt and Sin Essay
Arthur Dimmesdale and John Proctor s Guilt and Sin
Guilt is something that weighs heavily on the human soul. It incorporates itself in our dreams, our
thoughts, and our actions.
Everywhere we turn, it stares us blankly in the face. While it is unbearable to suffer, guilt is an
emotion that reaffirms our humanity.
Repentance of a particular guilt, being spiritual, physical or both, is evidence that we are beyond
the baseness of our animal tendencies.
This fact has not gone unnoticed to the many great figures of literature. They have explored the
sentiments of guilt and repentance by exploiting the conscience of flawed characters. In The Scarlet
Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne presented to the world Reverend Arthur

However, this penance was not enough. The only way he could truly out the pestilence that had
been eating away his soul was to publicly proclaim his guilt. To him, nothing short of a total change
of dynasty and moral code in that interior kingdom was adequate to account for the impulses now
communicated. (Hawthorne
205). When he acknowledged Pearl as his own during the Election Day speech, he shone a little
light into the darkness of his guilt. Sadly, even in this moment of revelation, the sin that had
become his cross for seven long years finally ended his life. While pain and shame had been merely
earthly penances, death was the final judge.
Unlike Dimmesdale s internal suffering, John Proctor was martyred as a result of vengeance. Abigail
Williams, his young lover, used the accusation of witchcraftto get rid of Elizabeth Proctor, the only
person keeping her from Proctor s love. Although she never confessed her intentions, they were
quite clear: Oh, John, I will make such a wife when the world is white again! You will be amazed

Elizabeth was dead, Abigail was making plans for their future together. Their secret liaison was

triggered when an individual eats gluten. Mostly gluten is found in barley, wheat, rye, and other
grains that most Americans love to eat. What if you couldn t eat sandwiches, pasta, cakes, pies,
pizza? Sound terrible, right? This has been my life for 10 years now.

James Bond s 1964 Aston Martin DB5. It is the classic car best known for representation in
movies and is recognizable across the world of vehicle enthusiasts. It has left its mark on history.
The same can be said for the Mercedes 1957 300SL Gullwing, a production car that was one of the
fastest and most eye catching vehicles of its time. Indeed, these types of classic cars are from a
bygone era.
Today, they are auctioned off for millions of dollars and stand as a heritage of a different period.
However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can
be considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact,
ones like Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their
bigger brothers. The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over
5,000,000 international sales of its iterated versions.
Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and
purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a
slice of history and in a slice of art. While today there has become a culture of upgrading and
tuning more widely available and cheap production cars, there is still that pure hearted, nostalgic

What is soil erosion? Soil erosion is a natural process, occurring over geological time, and indeed
it is a process that is essential for soil formation in the first place. With respect to soil degradation,
most concerns about erosion are related to accelerated erosion, where the natural rate has been
significantly increased mostly by human activity. Soilerosionby water is a widespread problem
throughout Europe. Soil is naturally removed by the action of water or wind: such background

Diffuse overland flow. Note the raindrop impacts
Firstly, if rain arrives too quickly (i.e. with too high an intensity) for it to infiltrate: the runoff
which results is then known as infiltration excess runoff, or Hortonian runoff. Secondly, runoff
may occur if the soil has already absorbed all the water it can hold (i.e. because it is fully
saturated, or if the soil is frozen). Runoff which results from this situation is known as saturation
excess runoff. As runoff moves downhill, it is at first a thin diffuse film of water which has lost
virtually all the kinetic energy which it possessed as falling rain. Thus it moves only slowly, has a
low flow power, and is generally incapable of detaching or transporting soil particles.
The micro topography (i.e. small scale pattern of irregularities) of the soil s surface tends to
cause this overland flow to concentrate in closed depressions, which slowly fill: this is known as
detention storage or ponding . Both the flowing water, and the water in detention storage, protect
the soil from raindrop impact, so that rainsplash redistribution usually decreases over time within a
storm, as the depth of surface water increases. There are, however, complex interactions between
rainsplash and overland flow. If rain continues, the increasing depth of water will eventually
overtop the micro topographic depressions. Overland flow that is released in this way is likely to
flow downhill more quickly and

base of all these theories is that genetic factors or any abnormalities that are inherited or acquired

Book Review Poetry is a form of art that serves the purpose to express the writer s opinions, and
also combat oppressive forces without the use of any physical force. These writers can relate to the
expression by the playwright and novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton in the play Cardinal Richelieu,
The pen is mightier than the sword (BBC); this expression serves as a metaphor in its own right
as the nature describes the effect of words to provide a stronger impact on the intended audience
than any kind of violence would. This term ties in perfectly with the ideas of Chicanx; the
Chicanx perspective of life is oppression and the dangers of racial tensions and manners to
dethrone those who impose that on others. They have long fought against the unfair forces that

Chavez becoming more invested in the peaceful form of protesting to gain trust and momentum
in the campaigns they were in, more and more writers began to express their feelings and place
their own two cents into the mixture of ideas. Often long stories are made in effort to express a
personal form of how life is changing and growing fears are turning into, however some writers
chose to use poetry as their version of a weapon against the oppressing forces. A poem is much

Human Papilloma Virus And The Prevalence Of Cervical Cancer
Human Papilloma Virus and the Prevalence of Cervical Cancer
Introduction
Did you know there is more of a link between cervical cancer and HPV than smoking and lung
cancer? Cervical cancer is currently the fourth most common cancer in women and the second
leading cause of death from cancer in women. Along with those statistics, human papillomavirus is
the most common sexually transmitted viral disease amongst men and women worldwide. The
prevalence of women having a strain of HPV that ultimately leads to or increases the chance of
cervical cancer is highly relatable. What is pathophysiology, signs, symptoms, prevention, and
treatments of this ailment? You might ask will be covered in the next few pages of this paper.
Pathophysiology
There are several strains of the human papillomavirus the highest risk strains for cervical cancer
are HPV 16 and 18 those strains cause 70 percent of cervical cancer along with a few other high
risk strains. There are low risk strains that cause things such as common warts, which are seen
on the skin, or genital warts seen on the mucous membranes. For the purpose of this paper, we
will only be covering strains that can lead to cervical cancer. Transmission of HPV is fairly easy
which may be why it is so prominent in our society today. HPV is transmitted primarily by sexual
activity but can also occur due to prolonged exposure to things like skin to skin interaction, or wear
of clothing that has been chronically exposed to the virus. It is

Inside Rain Man By Dr. Temple Grandin
Inside Rain Man
It is never too late to expand the mind of a person on the autism spectrum. This quote by Dr.
Temple Grandin helps explain to me what autism is all about. According to autismspeaks.org ,
Autism is a condition that is a result of a neurological disorder that has an affect on normal brain
function, affecting development of the person s communication and social interaction skills.
Although we do not have a set cause for autism, we know that it presents itself during the first
three years of a child s life. In the 1988 film Rain Man, we see a man, Raymond Babbit, with
autism. The movie begins with Charlie Babbit learning that his father has passed away and that he
was left with a few rose bushes and a car, while the rest of the 3 million dollars went to Charlie s
brother Raymond. We later find out that Charlie once knew Raymond and he actually gave
Raymond the nickname Rain Man because when he was little he couldn t say Raymond. Charlie
like any other person who felt they were cheated out of their share of family money was very
determined. While spending time with Raymond ,Charlie found that he was exceptionally brilliant
but also has many characteristics that individuals with autism experience. Throughout the film we
see that Raymond has to have structure in his daily life, he often repeats himself, and has trouble
interacting with people and understanding concepts but is extremely proficient in counting and
doing calculations.

Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan
Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical
texts of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and
turmoil of England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation,
attempts to create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the
context of a historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathanwas written, it is logical
that Hobbes would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a
fear of death, therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in
Leviathan centers on the necessity for absolute sovereigntyand a commonwealth through covenant
(social contract). For Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and
internal conflict within the state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these
governments from pressing issues and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a
strong central power such as an absolute sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the
essential idea of absolute sovereignty and commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan.
The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state. It is described, as a creature whose body is made up
of all of the bodies of its citizens while the head of the Leviathan is the sovereign. The leviathan is

Thanksgiving Persuasive Techniques
This recipe can be found on a webpage, which means that the sides are filled with advertisements
for other great dishes to cook. Most of the suggestions are holiday themed, since Thanksgiving has
just passed, and cranberry sauce is associated with Thanksgiving in America. The structure is
simple, looking like something out of a Western cookbook. On the top, there is a depiction of what
the cranberrysauce should look like, the amount of time it takes to prepare and cook the sauce,
and how many people it serves. Underneath that, there is a sentence exclaiming that the dish is
delicious and the last recipe you will ever try. Next, they list the ingredients, and give the
instructions. This is easily followed, and simple for this ritualized dish. The techniques in this
recipe are extremely simple, requiring only a pot, a heat source, preferably a stove, and a cooling
area. Water and sugar are brought to a boil. Once they are boiling, the cranberries are added, and
heated until they explode. Then, they are cooled to form a gelatinized dish. Although it takes three
hours to make, the process itself is not difficult.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
of cranberries, 2 cups of water, and 2 cups of sugar. Cranberries are native to the northeastern United
States, which is why they are important during the Thanksgiving Feast. Thanksgiving is meant to
commemorate the first feast between pilgrims and natives (before we killed them all brutally, but
that s another story). For this reason, the foods served are supposed to represent what was served
during the first Thanksgiving. Since cranberries are native to the region, many believe that they
were present during the first Thanksgiving. However, I highly doubt that they were sweetened by
sugar, which was brought to this region through trade. It is probable that this tradition came to be
through time and legend, since Thanksgiving did not become a national holiday until

Similarities And Differences Between The Giver Movie And...
There are many differences between the book and movie version of The Giver. The movie changed
many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more
interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the
Giver. Another differenceis the relationship between Jonasand Fiona. The final difference is when
Jonas flees his community when he wasn t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This
essay will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver.
The way that Jonas receives the memories in the book is different from the way he receives the
memories in the movie. In the book, Jonas had to receive the Giver s memories by laying down
on a bed while the Giver rubbed his back to transfer the memories to Jonas, Jonas felt nothing
unusual at first. He only felt the light touch of the old man s hands on his back ( Pg 101).
However, in the movie, it was different. In the movie Jonas had to sit on a chair in front of the
Giver. The Giver would hold Jonas wrists to transfer the memories to him. If the movie had used
the method from the book, then we wouldn t be able to see Jonas facial expressions because he
would be facing down on the bed. Jonas relationship with the Giver is different from the book to
the movie and so is his relationship with Fiona.
Jonas and Fiona never really had a strong relationship in the book. However, they did have a

high levels of stress and burnout rates. The authors goes on to explain that the high expectations
that social workers have on themselves from others and the expectations that they hold themselves
to, ultimately affects their well being (Graham Shier, 2014). The article explains that social
workers experience a lot of different situations and all of these situations take a toll on the social
workers well being. Graham and Shier explain that social workers experience violence, dangerous
situations, burnout, vicarious trauma exposure and so much more. All of those things play a major

Acquisition Process Analysis
The acquisition process is a vital component of project management. The requirements to ensure
successful execution of a project must be logical and efficient. It requires rigorous planning and
constant improvement of the project plan in order to discover and address any potential issues that
may interrupt the final delivery. Applying proven acquisition processes and principles will aid
ProjectManagers in creating an environment for success. The level of detail needed during the
refining activity is contingent upon several factors, such as the size and complexity of the project,
the proposed timeframe and the risks associated with the project (Career Education Corporation,

The decision to choose a product or service from an external supplier or vendor is referred to as
outsourcing. The decision to outsource a product or service is a significant one, and the Project
Manager must take into consideration additional costs, changes to schedule, deliverables, and
value. Furthermore, there are also other decision making factors, such as the need for control over
the quality, proprietary technology, time constraints, and lack of expertise or limited capabilities of
the external supplier (Project Management Institute, 2013). From a financial and scheduling
standpoint, the decision is straightforward, as the success of the project is dependent on resources
available through outsourcing. Since the project is dependent on an outside entity, the Project
Manager must follow prudent measures to control the process. The first step in controlling the
process is to determine the appropriate acquisition process. One reliable process is known as
Performance Based Acquisition (PBA). Performance Based Acquisition (PBA) is a results oriented
contracting method that focuses on outputs, and is written so that payment or contract extension is
based on measurable performance. The main benefit of using PBA is to minimize costs, while
improving vendor performance (NIGP, 2012). It is paramount that diligent research and evaluation
methods are used to ensure that the best available vendor is

The Causes Of The Failure Of Capitalism In The Jungle By...
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was written to expose the brutality faced by the workers in the
meatpacking industry. He wanted to show people what was really going on in the factory
because few people were informed about these companies work conditions . He wanted to show
the public that meat was diseased, rotten, and contaminated. This revelation shocked the public
which later led to the creation of the federal laws on food and safety. Sinclair strongly shows the
failure of capitalism in the meatpacking industry which he viewed as inhuman, destructive, unjust,
brutal, and violent. (Middlebury) Sinclair was an American writer born in Baltimore. He was
struggling to live a basic life, and he started reading about socialism. He believed that America
would vote for peaceful negations , So the government will take ownership of its business. He then
joined the socialist party in 1903, He began to write for the company Appeal To Reason which was
a socialist magazine. The meatpacking company workers went on strikes, the strikes broke quickly
because the company replaced the workers. This, kept the line running and the other families
became Impoverished . After this incident , the Appeal to Reason suggested him to write about the
strikes. He went to Chicago to research about the conditions of the workers, and he personally
interviewed the workers in the factories . Later his writing became very famous and contained
obvious basia. The effect of these books led Roosevelt

Marketing Mix A marketing strategy is the combination of the target market, or the customers the
marketing is intended to reach, and the marketing mix. Product, price, place, and promotion are
components of the marketing mix, or the four p s, which create a value for the customer (Perreault,
Cannon, McCarthy, 2009). For this reason, the customer, who is not part of the marketingmix, is
the center of the target, surrounded by the elements of the marketing mix. The ultimate goal of a
marketing strategy is to create value for the customer, which allows the organization to increase

Forgiveness In The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere
To earn forgiveness for a crime and claim redemption, one must endure a punishment and then
show love to the one whom he has wronged. This concept ties into the moral in the poem entitled:
The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere, by Samuel Coleridge. The epic tackles themes of crime,
punishment and redemption. At first glance, the piece does not appear to follow a coherent
pattern; however, through close reading, a hidden logic appears behind the overwhelming chaos of
the piece. He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (Rime 1797,VII. 645
646) is a sentiment that holds great importance for a general bettering of humanity. This moral
emphasizes that to have a good life, one must balance spirituality and love. Forgiveness within...

27 28). Taking this voyage is what aids the Marinere in learning this structure of crime,
punishment, and redemption. Through his experience, the Marinere gains the appreciation he
holds for all beings, He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (VII. 645
646). The following line is given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the
importance of the moral. He prayeth best who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII.
647 648). This outlook is not possible earlier because the Marinere has no experiential context
for these ideas; however, his experience of dropping below the known, gives him access to the
sublime. He experiences an expanse that has obscure and terrifying qualities which evoke the
sublime (Burke 35 37). Many instances of sublimity are in events and characters throughout the
poem. For instance, the storm that blew the ship about like Chaff (I. 48), is an event, which is
terrifying. The ice figures that are many and varied portray the obscurity of the sublime (I. 55). Ice
surrounds the Marinere s ship showing the power that nature constantly maintains over man, The
Ice was here, the Ice was there,/ The Ice was all around (I. 57 58). This introduces yet another
aspect and perspective of the sublime. For the Marinere, the act of physically moving into a space
so unknown and seemingly

The United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station
Percival Lowell came to Flagstaff in 1894, Arizona was still a territory, and Flagstaff had a
population of less than 1,000 people (Putnam). In 1930, Flagstaff was put on the map with the
discovery of Pluto, using Lowell s calculations, and became the first planet discovered outside of
Europe. People flocked to the up and coming science based town, revitalizing the population to
8,000 by 1955. As the population boom was upon this quiet wooded town, the U.S. Naval
Observatory Flagstaff Station was established, as was the U.S Geological Survey in 1963. With
more observatories being built and the advancement of the natural sciences, the need for the
preservation of dark skies in Flagstaff became apparent (Flagstaff s). The first upward battle in
the establishment of dark skies that Flagstaff faced was in 1958. A new telescope was set to be
built, but because of the increase in light pollution that was creeping up Mars Hill, the Anti
searchlight law went into effect. The Anti searchlight law allowed officers to fine individuals
$300 when in possession of a searchlight, or receive 90 days in jail. By June 1972, Tucson had
adopted Arizona s second lightinglaw all lights had to be pointed downward and Pima County
developed a similar law soon after. The City of Flagstaff was next to follow suit (Putnam). Light
from Flagstaff s growing city continued to prove difficult for astronomers. In 1980, most of Lowell

Dbq Italian Unification Essay
3. In the mid nineteenth century, Italy wasn t unified. Italy was made up of independent states that
nationalist wanted unified, but failed. Mazzini was the most important nationalist leader in Europe
and brought new fervor to the cause (690). Mazzini desperately wanted Italy to be united and it
finally was and became the Italian Republic. In 1860, the country shaped boot became a nation
state. After the war with Austria, the forces of romantic republican nationalism compelled Cavour
to pursue the complete unification of northern and southern Italy(691). Later that year, Sicily and
Naples became apart of the newly unified Italy. A year following, Emmanuel II became the king of
Italy. The political framework of the united Italy could not overcome these problems (693).

Under Prussian leadership, all the German states north of the Main River now formed the North
German Confederation (698). Bismarck had finally achieved his goal by unifying Germany, but he
had the southern German states to get. In the Franco Prussian War, Bismarck created another war
by creating friction between Prussia and France through a telegram. During the war, North
German Confederation supported France, while the southern German states helped Prussia. The
war eventually led to the defeat of France and at the Battle of Sedan, they were able to capture
Napoleon III. At the end of the unification, Italy was able to receive the two cities they had mainly
wanted. Although there were still some places that were Italian speaking dominant, they were still
unified. By 1870, the only areas with large Italian speaking populations that remained outside of
Italy were the province of Trent, or Southern Tyrol, and the city of Trieste (693). As for Germany,
they only got half of it since they lost in the war against France and southern German

Nile Kinnnick Research Paper
Although 8,398 Iowans died during World War II, the death of the University of Iowa s only
Heisman Trophy winner shook the state like no other wartime tragedy. Although College Football
ranked him as the ninth greatest college football player of all time, Nile Kinnick is perhaps best

character and his sacrifice to his country (Lidd).
Nile Kinnick was born on July 9, 1918 in Adel, Iowa, the grandson of a governor. He attended the
University of Iowa after failing a football tryout at Minnesota. At Iowa, Kinnick became the team
s main passer. Kinnick played halfback and during his senior year, played 402 minutes (of a

sports emphasis in general in this country. And that is I thank God I was warring on the gridirons

The Importance Of Year-Round Schooling
Year round schooling is a system that lengthens the amount of days spent in school by shortening
the duration of vacations. Although students may think otherwise, year round schooling should be
enforced in schools today. Year round schooling keeps students stimulated, throughout the entire
school year. Year round schooling improves a student s academic and social performance as well
as supporting families financial strains. If year round schooling is not enforced, the academic
scores of the students will continue to decrease.
Year round schooling increases students academic performances. A study from the California State
Department of Education shows that standardized test scores increased an average of 9.5% in

  • 2. My Favorite Hobby Baseball Research Today I am here to talk about my favorite hobby, baseball. Growing up baseball has been a big part of my life. Some of the first memories I have and can remember are going to my grandparents house and playing wiffle ball in the back yard with my grandpa and dad.One of the hardest things to do in sports is hit a baseball. Some of you may disagree with this statement. However all hitting coaches will preach to square up the round baseball with the round bat. Some of you may be saying to yourselves that does not sound to hard. How are you suppose to square up two round objects? This just doesn t make since.Secondly not only is it hard enough to hit a fastball when you are ten years old just starting to play the game. When you get to the college ... • 3. British Rule in India at the End of the First World War British Rule in India at the End of the First World War By the end of the First World War the British Rule in India was still powerful, but would soon break down. However, thousands of Indians fought in the war hoping that in return they would be given home rule. It would have been difficult to win without the invaluable help of the Indians and their constant supply of manpower. India was a vast supplier of raw materials to Britain and would in return buy British manufactured goods. Two thirds of India was governed by the British, whilst the remainder was governed by Indian princes. The princely state rulers kept their power by signing treaties with the British. Signing these treaties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there were outbreaks of violence in Punjab, which grew worse when the British government failed to make any statements of home rule. Indian involvement in Government during this period was encouraged by trying to give the Indians more political power, without giving them all the power. Also, by the many attempted acts which many Indian s accepted but were also opposed by the people who were expecting complete home rule. 2. In what ways did the British government attempt to change the government from 1919 to 1939? (15) The British government s attempts to change the government were its numerous acts to satisfy the Indian opinion, as this is partially the main purpose of why all these acts were introduced (to satisfy the Indians). The first Government of India act was passed in December 1919 and put into effect The Montagu Chelmsford Reform which set up a system know as the Dyrachy. To advise the Viceroy an Executive Council was also set up. Then, in 1927, the Simon Commission was selected to evaluate the workings of the Montagu Chelmsford Reform. The Rowlatt Acts were intended to extend the Defence of India Act into peacetime. This act would enable the government to arrest and imprison any troublemakers without trial and allowed judges to try ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gettysburg Address Dbq President Abraham Lincoln gave a speech on the grounds where thousands of people died after the Gettysburg Address; the controversy lies whether the Gettysburg Address was significant or not. There are two sides to every story in this case there are the ones who believe the address was important and then there are ones who thought the address had no significance. The Gettysburg Addresswas full of logic and professionalism. This being the case some might argue against Lincoln saying the speech was more like good poetry, rather than a speech to the country. Were the Presidents words to professionally toned? Adams, the man opposing the speech, later notes there were mistakes and falsehoods in the words Lincoln used in his speech, consequently, ... • 5. Systematic Review Paper Abstract Traditionally, systematic reviews (SR) are descriptive secondary research, which may or may not be accompanied by statistical methods (metaanalysis) of pooling the results of primary, quantitative studies to answer a clinical question or test a hypothesis (Chalmers 1996). Similarly, qualitative primary studies can be pooled and synthesised in order to develop new theories to aid decision making, re shape policies, and influence professional practices. Over the past 20 years, patient and public involvement (PPI) in research have become increasingly crucial, which has fuelled the increasing popularity of qualitative research as better ways of incorporating public and patient views into health, social and economic policies. There is however a confusing array of methods available for conducting secondary qualitative research. In this paper epistemological concepts guiding a number of methods are discussed. The consensus on enhancing transparency in reporting the synthesis of qualitative research (ENTREQ) is also reviewed Introduction Synthesis of qualitative data has never been as popular as meta analysis. It is however becoming an increasingly useful secondary research tool in a diverse area of problem solutions, ranging from leadership and management problems (Walsh 2005; Galuska 2012), sociology (Wilder 2014) to clinical research questions (Beck 2002; Kennedy et al. 2003 and Orri 2014). • 6. Smallpox Is An Acute Contagious Disease SMALLPOX Introduction Smallpox is an acute contagious disease that is caused by the variola virus which is a member of the Genus Orthopoxvirus family. It infects humans only as a result of its ability to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003). The virus is a two stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the variola major and variola minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not lethal but a mere strain. The most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more severe symptoms and with a higher fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection (Koplow 2003). Key features of the life cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the host cell and infects an individual. It normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed hence permitting penetration and movement into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the host cell, the main protein in released (Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host cell. DNA replication and transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for replication and transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow 2003). First, the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. I Am A Doctor Who Works With Skin Diseases Ever since I was in eighth grade, I have wanted to be a pediatric dermatologist a doctor who works with skin diseases in children. When I was younger, I really had no idea what career I would be interested in. Every time an adult would ask, What do you want to do when you grow up? I would either say I wanted to be an Olympic gymnast or a singer or both, despite the fact that these were not, and still are not, the most realistic career opportunities for me. When I was in eighth grade, I figured out what career I wanted to have when I was older. It was then when I started getting these weird bumps on the skin of my hands and feet. These bumps were not life threatening, just uncomfortable and annoying, but I wanted the bumps to be cured. I went to a pediatric dermatologist hoping that she could diagnose these bumps and cure them. Instead of a cure or even a definitive diagnosis, I had to get two different biopsies that both came back inconclusive and also had to try different ointments and creams that would only get rid of the bumps for a little while if at all. This process of constant experimentation and uncertainty lasted for a whole year and was very frustrating. Finally, my dermatologist finally told me that it was possibly Granuloma annulare, which is an autoimmune disease, but that diagnosis was not definitive. She said, You know that saying that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck? Well, if it looks like Granuloma annulare, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. To what extent can developmental dyslexia be explained by... Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexiawas reported in 1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to read, as suffering from as Pringle Morgan believed word blindness resulting from deficiencies in visual processing. Since Pringle Morgan s initial report, there have been many other explanations of dyslexia. This essay will attempt to evaluate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or cerebellar abnormality. Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Executive Of The Federal Emergency Management Agency And... INTRODUCTION David Edmondson of Yahoo and Scott Thompson of RadioShack were just two names in the long and confounding list of prominent people who had embroidered or falsified their rГ©sumГ©s and were felled for doing so. This list includes a former Notre Dame Football coach, chief executive of Bausch Lomb, a director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and an MIT admissions director. In this reaction paper I focus on this very issue of rГ©sumГ© falsification and analyze how such cases ought to be dealt, from an ethical stand point. The issue is analyzed using the cases of Scott Thompson and David Edmondson, former CEOs of Yahoo and RadioShack respectively. The paper starts by providing a brief overview of the above mentioned cases... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... David Edmondson, on the other hand, had been an employee with RadioShack for 11 years before he was appointed as the CEO. In an investigative report, Star Telegram revealed that Edmondson had also falsified his rГ©sumГ© by stating that he had degrees in psychology and theology. Star Telegram revealed that the Pacific Coast Baptist College did not even issue degrees in psychology, and that they only issued a diplomas in theology. David Edmondson s name was also not found in the College records. Edmondson contested that he remembered to have completed his diploma in theology, but he could not support his claims. He eventually stepped down as the CEO as well. ETHICAL DILEMMA Both Yahoo and RadioShack, had to find solution to the following questions How serious of an offence was it for a CEO to have lied on the rГ©sumГ©? Should a CEO be sacked for falsification of the rГ©sumГ© or should he be retained in the company on the basis that his performance as a CEO has little bearing on his degree? Should the company also impose a sanction on the CEO? What are the implications on the company in choosing either of these options? MODEL BASED ANALYSIS Using Mihnea Moldoveanu s model, we try to identify the agents in both the cases and build a choice based model of the situation. It is clear from the case background that Scott Thompson and David Edmondson were the active agents since they had an opportunity to make a choice, the choice of coming ... • 12. The Debate On Marriage And Parenting Rights For Gay And The debate on marriage and parenting rights for gay and lesbian individuals has been one of the most hotly contested social issues in recent history. While many arguments are cited to prevent gay couples from enjoying equality, these arguments ultimately condense to concerns rooted in homophobia. Opponents of the LGBT community contend that same sex parenting contradicts the natural order of the world, subjects children to unnecessary societal stigma, and that the state has a right to favor heterosexual norms. However, these concerns are either unfounded or unjustly infringe on the rights of gay and lesbian couples. Consequently, there is no reason to prohibit gay or lesbian couples from obtaining custody of children. Proponents of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is unjust to use the same argument to prevent gay couples from adopting. Skeptics of gay and lesbian parents also raise the concern that the children of same sex couples would be subject to stigma from society. They argue that gay parents should not be granted custody rights because their children would be subject to unnecessary ridicule by their peers. In short, their position is that children should not be placed into harsh conditions simply due to their parents sexual behavior. While the well being of the child is an important concern in custody matters, stigma that exists within society must not be written into law. Bigotry is an unfortunate component of human nature, and it will likely never be erased completely. The law cannot control these biases, but it should not be influenced by the fleeting passions of the time. If the law gives biases that exist within society legitimacy, they will merely be reinforced for generations. Furthermore, a primary purpose of law is to serve as a guardian of the minority rights. Basic rights must be enshrined in law so that they are insulated from tyrannical majorities that might act with malice toward a minority group. Preventing gay couples from adopting because society holds a bias against them unjustly sacrifices a crucial liberty for homosexuals. The Supreme Court has ruled that racial stigma cannot have an influence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Essay about Managed Care Managed Care There are so many problems with our society s health care. Everyone wants to find a solution, but no one has been able to come up with one yet. Many different things have been tried, but none have put a cease to the exorbitant costs, which most believe to be the main problem. Out of everything tried, the most recent and popular system is known as managed care. Managed care is the most common form of health insurance in the United States, and provides more a cost efficient coverage than paying a fee for service charge. At the end of 1996, there were over 600 HMO s in operation, enrolling around 65 million members, which is about 1/4 of the population (Tufts 1998). Before I get into the different types of managed care organizations, I am going to go over some cost control methods in managed care. Managed care organizations are different methods used to control utilization of services. Utilization management requires three things. First, you have to have an expert evaluation of which services are medically necessary in a given case. This ensures that unnecessary services are kept to a minimum. Secondly it requires a determination of how those services can be provided most inexpensively, while maintaining a high level of quality of care. It also requires a review of the process of care and changes in the patients condition to revise the course of medical treatment if necessary. The methods that are most

Wollstonecraft s basic theoretical and applied philosophy is based on the ideas of God, reason, sentiments of humanity, the European Enlightenment, romanticism, universal human rights, human progress in virtue and happiness, and more. When it comes to her moral knowledge and understanding, Wollstonecraft is not to be criticized for being too much of a rationalist for failing to give proper place to the emotions because she bases it on reason and does give emotions a proper place. Wollstonecraft gives a key role to the natural human sentiments and emotions of humanity when it comes to moral perception, understanding, and knowledge and she has a place in the movement of Romanticism as she vindicated for women s rights at the time and she provided a transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism. With respect to soil degradation, most concerns about erosion are related to accelerated erosion, where the natural rate has been significantly increased mostly by human activity. Soilerosionby water is a widespread problem throughout Europe. Soil is naturally removed by the action of water or wind: such background (or geological ) soil erosion has been occurring for some 450 million years, since the first land plants formed the first soil. Note the raindrop impacts Firstly, if rain arrives too quickly (i.e. with too high an intensity) for it to infiltrate: the runoff which results is then known as infiltration excess runoff, or Hortonian runoff. Secondly, runoff may occur if the soil has already absorbed all the water it can hold (i.e. because it is fully saturated, or if the soil is frozen). Runoff which results from this situation is known as saturation excess runoff. As runoff moves downhill, it is at first a thin diffuse film of water which has lost virtually all the kinetic energy which it possessed as falling rain. Thus it moves only slowly, has a low flow power, and is generally incapable of detaching or transporting soil particles. The micro topography (i.e. small scale pattern of irregularities) of the soil s surface tends to cause this overland flow to concentrate in closed depressions, which slowly fill: this is known as detention storage or ponding . Both the flowing water, and the water in detention storage, protect the soil from raindrop impact, so that rainsplash redistribution usually decreases over time within a storm, as the depth of surface water increases. There are, however, complex interactions between rainsplash and overland flow. If rain continues, the increasing depth of water will eventually overtop the micro topographic depressions. Overland flow that is released in this way is likely to flow downhill more quickly and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Criticism In Cardinal Richelieu Alfredo Camacho Dr. Fontes CLAS 5 3 October 2017 Book Review Poetry is a form of art that serves the purpose to express the writer s opinions, and also combat oppressive forces without the use of any physical force. These writers can relate to the expression by the playwright and novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton in the play Cardinal Richelieu, The pen is mightier than the sword (BBC); this expression serves as a metaphor in its own right as the nature describes the effect of words to provide a stronger impact on the intended audience than any kind of violence would. This term ties in perfectly with the ideas of Chicanx; the Chicanx perspective of life is oppression and the dangers of racial tensions and manners to dethrone those who impose that on others. They have long fought against the unfair forces that have come against them, and have been involved in many violent forms of protest. With Cesar Chavez becoming more invested in the peaceful form of protesting to gain trust and momentum in the campaigns they were in, more and more writers began to express their feelings and place their own two cents into the mixture of ideas. Often long stories are made in effort to express a personal form of how life is changing and growing fears are turning into, however some writers chose to use poetry as their version of a weapon against the oppressing forces. Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical texts of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and turmoil of England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation, attempts to create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the context of a historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathanwas written, it is logical that Hobbes would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a fear of death, therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in Leviathan centers on the necessity for absolute sovereigntyand a commonwealth through covenant (social contract). For Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and internal conflict within the state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these governments from pressing issues and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a strong central power such as an absolute sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the essential idea of absolute sovereignty and commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan. The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state. • 52. Forgiveness In The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere To earn forgiveness for a crime and claim redemption, one must endure a punishment and then show love to the one whom he has wronged. This concept ties into the moral in the poem entitled: The Rime Of The Ancyent Marinere, by Samuel Coleridge. The epic tackles themes of crime, punishment and redemption. At first glance, the piece does not appear to follow a coherent pattern; however, through close reading, a hidden logic appears behind the overwhelming chaos of the piece. He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (Rime 1797,VII. 645 646) is a sentiment that holds great importance for a general bettering of humanity. This moral emphasizes that to have a good life, one must balance spirituality and love. Forgiveness within... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 27 28). Taking this voyage is what aids the Marinere in learning this structure of crime, punishment, and redemption. Through his experience, the Marinere gains the appreciation he holds for all beings, He prayeth well who loveth well/ Both man and bird and beast (VII. 645 646). The following line is given immediately after to ensure the reader latches onto the importance of the moral. He prayeth best who loveth best/ All things both great and small: (VII. 647 648). This outlook is not possible earlier because the Marinere has no experiential context for these ideas; however, his experience of dropping below the known, gives him access to the sublime. He experiences an expanse that has obscure and terrifying qualities which evoke the sublime (Burke 35 37). Many instances of sublimity are in events and characters throughout the poem. For instance, the storm that blew the ship about like Chaff (I. 48), is an event, which is terrifying. The ice figures that are many and varied portray the obscurity of the sublime (I. 55). Ice surrounds the Marinere s ship showing the power that nature constantly maintains over man, The Ice was here, the Ice was there,/ The Ice was all around (I. 57 58). This introduces yet another aspect and perspective of the sublime. For the Marinere, the act of physically moving into a space so unknown and seemingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station Percival Lowell came to Flagstaff in 1894, Arizona was still a territory, and Flagstaff had a population of less than 1,000 people (Putnam). In 1930, Flagstaff was put on the map with the discovery of Pluto, using Lowell s calculations, and became the first planet discovered outside of Europe. People flocked to the up and coming science based town, revitalizing the population to 8,000 by 1955. As the population boom was upon this quiet wooded town, the U.S. Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station was established, as was the U.S Geological Survey in 1963. With more observatories being built and the advancement of the natural sciences, the need for the preservation of dark skies in Flagstaff became apparent (Flagstaff s). The first upward battle in the establishment of dark skies that Flagstaff faced was in 1958. A new telescope was set to be built, but because of the increase in light pollution that was creeping up Mars Hill, the Anti searchlight law went into effect. The Anti searchlight law allowed officers to fine individuals $300 when in possession of a searchlight, or receive 90 days in jail. By June 1972, Tucson had adopted Arizona s second lightinglaw all lights had to be pointed downward and Pima County developed a similar law soon after. The City of Flagstaff was next to follow suit (Putnam). Light from Flagstaff s growing city continued to prove difficult for astronomers. In 1980, most of Lowell s research work and discoveries were made on top of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At Iowa, Kinnick became the team s main passer. And that is I thank God I was warring on the gridirons of the Midwest and not on the battlefields of Europe. I can speak confidently and positively that the players of this country would much more, much rather struggle and fight to win the Heisman award than the Croix de Guerre (Lidd).
