Working Title:
Survival Instincts
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
My target audience would be male teenagers and young adults (15 – 24), typically those with a
struggler psychographic, or those looking for escapism, however, my game could also be enjoyed
by other people who don’t fit this description.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use
the Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation
to content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product
appeal to the gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
This year I have learnt how to use Photoshop to create animations by using the frame by frame
timeline and by drawing different sprites in order to create actions and motion within my image. I
have also learnt about using ADR to add sounds with a silent video in order to make it feel alive
and like the sounds are coming from the video instead of being separate tracks, which is
something that is useful when doing an animation as it will be the technique I will use in order to
add sound and create my world.
Review your progress throughout the year- what video game and Photoshop skills and
knowledge have you acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your advergame and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My game concept is a top down survival game which requires the user to collect resources in order
to build defences in order to protect themselves from the NPC enemies which will come to attack
them. The game will also contain a shooter element where the player can craft weapons in order to
fight off the enemies. The user will be able to design and create a unique base and will have to
choose which way is best to protect it. I will include in the game a type of levelling system where
depending on how much resources you have you can craft different strength weapons and
defences for you base, which you can upgrade along the way in order to be better equipped to
survive. Although you can upgrade your weapons and defences, the enemies will also upgrade
their weapons and troops the longer you survive. In order to keep track of how long you’ve been
playing and what difficulty the enemies will be, there will be day and night cycle which will be kept
track of in the corner of the screen.
I will need to conduct research on top down games in order to see how they styled their artwork,
and choose how I will style mine in order to best serve the gameplay and to get the look and feel I
am aiming for.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
