Pre-Production

Style sheet
This is another picture i thought seemed similar to what i am wanting to
achieve. This is because it has a disintegrating effect around the dress. This
was a concept i wanted to work with due to it reflecting my horror really well.
Also, the photo is black and white based again which links into a similar theme
i am wanting to achieve. The overall photo is well lit but it appears they have
blurred the background slightly. This will be because it helps make the model
stand out more. They have also used different contrasts of colours, making
the light background really contrast with the dress. This again helps highlight
what they want the audience to focus on. This is a aspect i will practice whilst
completing my final major project. From researching into horror movies, i can
see that a lot include abnormal effects. This would be the similar to the
disintegrating effect on the image on your left. This means i will need to include
aspects like smoke to appeal to my audience more.
This picture is rather similar to what I am wanting to produce in my final major
project. This is because I am wanting to achieve a gothic, black and white styled,
horror film. This concept of a cracked face is something I experimented with
whilst practicing different techniques to put towards my final project. The image
is also black and white which helps add a creepy effect to the overall piece.
There has also been changes of the shadow/brightness level. As you can see
the modes body is rather shadowed. However, the facial features are
highlighted. Especially her eyes which is something which would work effectively
with my project. This again adds a weird effect due to highlighting abnormal
features of the model. This is also common feature amongst horror genre films
from my research. This is because it creates a abnormal and sinister effect
which is vital to producing DVD covers and Posters for a horror movie.
Style Sheet
I’ve chosen to look at these texts due to the
sharp and spikes aspects to them. I feel like
this effect gives off a scary and creates a
emotionally disturbed reaction. This is
because it is similar to a childs hand writing
or even someone who is deeply compulsive
with their behaviour. This links into my final
major project due to creating aspects
revolved around a horror based film. Whilst
looking into fonts for my film, i will edit the
style on photoshop due to it adding more
texture and depth to the overall DVD cover
and poster. This will give the poster more
depth and will create a more professional
look which is the overall aim for my final
major project. These font styles also link into
my films name ‘the disconnected’. This
means the text needs to be scratchy and
spiky, so that it helps connotes isolation and
disconnection.
Style Sheet
This style sheet shows the colour scheme which
would work best for my final major project film. All
the colours i have selected are more on the dark
tone side. This is because my film is a horror
genre based film. The main colours i will be using
in my final major project will be blacks. However, to
add a hint of colour i will use reds. This is because
red is a colour the audience reacts to. This is
because it connotes danger which immediately
intrigues the audience. Also, from researching into
DVD covers and Posters, Red is used a lot
through out this genre. This shows it is a dominant
colour which seems to attract similar target
audience. Ive included other dark tones colours
too, due to wanting to add hints of colour into my
final major project. This is because my theme is
mainly black and white based, but i feel as though
adding hints of colour adds more interest to the
film. Also, this creates a unique style which i
haven't seen on any other horror films.

Important information:
Production company, age
restrictions, duration of the film,the
cast etc.
This lay out is similar to the projects i researched into. The lay out is basic and clear which will allow my
audience to easily identify the information they are after. It will also make the genre of my film - horror -
be clear. This is important so that it appeals to my target audience. Due to this being common amongst
the DVD covers i researched into, shows its effective for my target audience.
Lay Out For Theatrical Poster:
Image
Film Title:
Production Company
Cast
Information on when the film is out in
cinema.
I have placed the cast list at the top of the
poster due to this being a common occurrence
amongst other film production companies which
i discovered whilst researching. This positioning
also makes the cast names obvious, which
makes the audience eye be drawn to this
section of the poster.
The main image is commonly placed in the
centre of the page. This is because this is
the first place the audience will look. This
means the image needs to stand out
amongst the information surrounding.
The production information was commonly
placed at the bottom of posters. This is
because its vital information which needs to
be included, but isn't what attracts the
audience effectively.
I have booked the studio out for the 8th
of May, 2018.
Here are the request forms to say I’ve
booked it.
This means on the 8th I will be taking
photos and will begin my photo
shopping for my DVD cover and
Poster.
Studio Layout
The ‘X’ is where
I will be
positioning the
model. This is
because it is
central, and the
best place for
the lights to
shadow and
reflect.
There are four lights.
The two at the front
of the photo are to
light the
background. The
other two lights
towards the white
screen are to light
the model. This is
what helps adds
shadows and gives
the model accurate
lighting with not
much exposure. With the background, I will be using the white and black
background. This is because I am wanting to have a
combination of dark and light photos. These backgrounds
will disorientate the lighting depending on what screen I
use. For example: the black screen wont reflect the light.
Resources
Equipment/ Props/ Costume
needed
Locations needed
The equipment I will be needing to use is a camera/tri
pod. This is because the majority of my project is
photography based which means this is vital equipment.
The location needed for this would be the studio.
For this project I will need cast members. This means I
need a main cast member and a back up in case
someone is ill or unable to make the photo shoot.
The location needed for this would be the studio.
The equipment I will be needing is make up and face
paint. This is because I am wanting to add effects to the
models face before beginning the photoshoot. This is so
I can intensify certain aspects of the photograph which
will make the overall production more effective.
The location needed for this will again be the studio.
Another piece of equipment I will be needing is the
lights in the studio. This is so my photos are lit properly,
causing the image to be clearer and prestige.
The location I will be needing for this is the studio.
Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Cast aren’t available/don’t turn up. The solution for this would be to have back up cast
members. This is so you can still carry out what youre
wanting to do.
Booking the studio may cause issues due to mass
numbers wanting to use the studio.
The solution to this issue would be to book the studio
again for a different date. Also, you could attempt to
take photos in different locations which may present the
same light that is required from the studio.
Camera runs out of battery. The solution to this issue would be to have a spare
battery. This is will then allow you to carry on with
production, instead of running around trying to find
another battery.
The lights in the studio may break. The solution to the studio lights breaking would be to
have back up lights. This is so it doesn't’t postpone
production time and can be easily amended.
The sim card may have faults/ may be misplaced. The solution to this issue would be to have a back up
sim card. Another solution for the sim card being
misplaced would be to make sure everything is backed
up on a memory stick and other devices.
Not hitting deadlines. The solution to this issue would be to do work outside
of college hours. This will make sure you are caught up
with all your work which means you have time to correct
any errors made. This is will make your overall work
more effective.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
Equipment getting stolen. To avoid this issue, I will make sure to keep an on the
equipment I am using.
Tripping/falling over. There is a lot of equipment in the studio with lot of
different wires. This causes a massive tripping hazard.
I will make sure to inform the model of the wires so
that it doesn't’t cause any injuries.
Electric Shock. To avoid the issue of a electric shock is to be careful
with electrical equipment and avoid having any liquids
which could cause damage.
Eye Strain. To avoid eye strain, make sure to take regular breaks.
This will allow you to rest your eyes, which will cause
for more effective production.
There could be a fire. To avoid a fire hazard, I will make sure all lights and
other equipment's are turned off and safely put away.
Equipment breaking/not being used accurately. To avoid equipment breaking and not being used
accurately, I will make sure to double check with my
tutor on how to use a tri pod properly. This is so it
doesn't’t cause any damage or hazards.

5. Pre Production FMP (Liberty Whitehorn)

  • 2. Style sheet This is another picture i thought seemed similar to what i am wanting to achieve. This is because it has a disintegrating effect around the dress. This was a concept i wanted to work with due to it reflecting my horror really well. Also, the photo is black and white based again which links into a similar theme i am wanting to achieve. The overall photo is well lit but it appears they have blurred the background slightly. This will be because it helps make the model stand out more. They have also used different contrasts of colours, making the light background really contrast with the dress. This again helps highlight what they want the audience to focus on. This is a aspect i will practice whilst completing my final major project. From researching into horror movies, i can see that a lot include abnormal effects. This would be the similar to the disintegrating effect on the image on your left. This means i will need to include aspects like smoke to appeal to my audience more. This picture is rather similar to what I am wanting to produce in my final major project. This is because I am wanting to achieve a gothic, black and white styled, horror film. This concept of a cracked face is something I experimented with whilst practicing different techniques to put towards my final project. The image is also black and white which helps add a creepy effect to the overall piece. There has also been changes of the shadow/brightness level. As you can see the modes body is rather shadowed. However, the facial features are highlighted. Especially her eyes which is something which would work effectively with my project. This again adds a weird effect due to highlighting abnormal features of the model. This is also common feature amongst horror genre films from my research. This is because it creates a abnormal and sinister effect which is vital to producing DVD covers and Posters for a horror movie.
  • 3. Style Sheet I’ve chosen to look at these texts due to the sharp and spikes aspects to them. I feel like this effect gives off a scary and creates a emotionally disturbed reaction. This is because it is similar to a childs hand writing or even someone who is deeply compulsive with their behaviour. This links into my final major project due to creating aspects revolved around a horror based film. Whilst looking into fonts for my film, i will edit the style on photoshop due to it adding more texture and depth to the overall DVD cover and poster. This will give the poster more depth and will create a more professional look which is the overall aim for my final major project. These font styles also link into my films name ‘the disconnected’. This means the text needs to be scratchy and spiky, so that it helps connotes isolation and disconnection.
  • 4. Style Sheet This style sheet shows the colour scheme which would work best for my final major project film. All the colours i have selected are more on the dark tone side. This is because my film is a horror genre based film. The main colours i will be using in my final major project will be blacks. However, to add a hint of colour i will use reds. This is because red is a colour the audience reacts to. This is because it connotes danger which immediately intrigues the audience. Also, from researching into DVD covers and Posters, Red is used a lot through out this genre. This shows it is a dominant colour which seems to attract similar target audience. Ive included other dark tones colours too, due to wanting to add hints of colour into my final major project. This is because my theme is mainly black and white based, but i feel as though adding hints of colour adds more interest to the film. Also, this creates a unique style which i haven't seen on any other horror films.
  • 5. Lay Out For DVD Cover Cast Title ReviewAge Image Image Review Image Synopsis/Blurb Special Features Teaser Images Important information: Production company, age restrictions, duration of the film, the cast etc. This lay out is similar to the projects i researched into. The lay out is basic and clear which will allow my audience to easily identify the information they are after. It will also make the genre of my film - horror - be clear. This is important so that it appeals to my target audience. Due to this being common amongst the DVD covers i researched into, shows its effective for my target audience.
  • 6. Lay Out For Theatrical Poster: Image Film Title: Production Company Cast Information on when the film is out in cinema. I have placed the cast list at the top of the poster due to this being a common occurrence amongst other film production companies which i discovered whilst researching. This positioning also makes the cast names obvious, which makes the audience eye be drawn to this section of the poster. The main image is commonly placed in the centre of the page. This is because this is the first place the audience will look. This means the image needs to stand out amongst the information surrounding. The production information was commonly placed at the bottom of posters. This is because its vital information which needs to be included, but isn't what attracts the audience effectively.
  • 7. I have booked the studio out for the 8th of May, 2018. Here are the request forms to say I’ve booked it. This means on the 8th I will be taking photos and will begin my photo shopping for my DVD cover and Poster.
  • 8. Studio Layout The ‘X’ is where I will be positioning the model. This is because it is central, and the best place for the lights to shadow and reflect. There are four lights. The two at the front of the photo are to light the background. The other two lights towards the white screen are to light the model. This is what helps adds shadows and gives the model accurate lighting with not much exposure. With the background, I will be using the white and black background. This is because I am wanting to have a combination of dark and light photos. These backgrounds will disorientate the lighting depending on what screen I use. For example: the black screen wont reflect the light.
  • 9. Resources Equipment/ Props/ Costume needed Locations needed The equipment I will be needing to use is a camera/tri pod. This is because the majority of my project is photography based which means this is vital equipment. The location needed for this would be the studio. For this project I will need cast members. This means I need a main cast member and a back up in case someone is ill or unable to make the photo shoot. The location needed for this would be the studio. The equipment I will be needing is make up and face paint. This is because I am wanting to add effects to the models face before beginning the photoshoot. This is so I can intensify certain aspects of the photograph which will make the overall production more effective. The location needed for this will again be the studio. Another piece of equipment I will be needing is the lights in the studio. This is so my photos are lit properly, causing the image to be clearer and prestige. The location I will be needing for this is the studio.
  • 10. Contingency Planning Potential Issue Solution Cast aren’t available/don’t turn up. The solution for this would be to have back up cast members. This is so you can still carry out what youre wanting to do. Booking the studio may cause issues due to mass numbers wanting to use the studio. The solution to this issue would be to book the studio again for a different date. Also, you could attempt to take photos in different locations which may present the same light that is required from the studio. Camera runs out of battery. The solution to this issue would be to have a spare battery. This is will then allow you to carry on with production, instead of running around trying to find another battery. The lights in the studio may break. The solution to the studio lights breaking would be to have back up lights. This is so it doesn't’t postpone production time and can be easily amended. The sim card may have faults/ may be misplaced. The solution to this issue would be to have a back up sim card. Another solution for the sim card being misplaced would be to make sure everything is backed up on a memory stick and other devices. Not hitting deadlines. The solution to this issue would be to do work outside of college hours. This will make sure you are caught up with all your work which means you have time to correct any errors made. This is will make your overall work more effective.
  • 11. Health and Safety Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided? Equipment getting stolen. To avoid this issue, I will make sure to keep an on the equipment I am using. Tripping/falling over. There is a lot of equipment in the studio with lot of different wires. This causes a massive tripping hazard. I will make sure to inform the model of the wires so that it doesn't’t cause any injuries. Electric Shock. To avoid the issue of a electric shock is to be careful with electrical equipment and avoid having any liquids which could cause damage. Eye Strain. To avoid eye strain, make sure to take regular breaks. This will allow you to rest your eyes, which will cause for more effective production. There could be a fire. To avoid a fire hazard, I will make sure all lights and other equipment's are turned off and safely put away. Equipment breaking/not being used accurately. To avoid equipment breaking and not being used accurately, I will make sure to double check with my tutor on how to use a tri pod properly. This is so it doesn't’t cause any damage or hazards.

Editor's Notes

  1. Explore colours, fonts and image styles similar to what you want to produce. Discuss all three elements in relation to why you chose them and where you may use them in your project. Go over as many pages as you need to
  2. Mock up of a potential design using the colours and fonts established in your style sheet and sourced images Alter this slide to make it appropriate for your planned product types. Add further layout slides to create at least one for each product you plan to make.
