Liberty Whitehorn visited several university open days to determine the best fit for her skills and interests, ultimately choosing Salford University. She was impressed by Salford's equipment and connection to Media City. Northumbria University was selected as her insurance choice. Liberty applied to five universities total and was required to achieve a Merit grade by both her firm and insurance choices. She had previously set ILP targets to achieve a Merit overall and improve her Photoshop skills, goals which helped guide her decision to attend university.

2. Open Day/Applicant Reflection
Whilst looking into universities I did visit a few to help me decide if I wanted to attend those
universities. I looked at Birmingham City University, Salford University, Roehampton and
Northumbria University. From these open days, it allowed me to get a sense of what the tutors are
like as well as determining if the course was accurate for me.
The Birmingham City open day was good. The level of work they achieved there seems great as
well. However, I felt like the resources and the course itself wasn’t the right one for me.
The Roehampton open day was a great day! The people there were absolutely lovely. However, I
didn’t feel like the course connected with what I am wanting in a course.
These two universities were great but I felt like my skills would be better in a different course.
This is what lead me to look into Salford and Northumbria University. Both of these open days
were amazing. The tutors from these universities seemed like really amazing tutors. The two
courses at these university's were exactly what I was looking for.
In the end I had to determine which one is better for developing my skills and knowledge. This
university chose to be Salford University. This was because the equipment they have there is
amazing and with the University being connected to Media City, it made the whole experience the
best one. This has allowed me to Firm Salford as my Universities choice and Northumbria as my
insurance.

have firmed and insured as my
choices.
I applied for 5 in total and then
chose these two university's. This
is because I had been to university
open days and attended interviews
and these two universities felt
relevant with what I am wanting to
develop and specialise in.
Both courses want me to achieve a
M grade to get in to these
universities.

4. ILP Targets
These ILP targets are targets we set ourselves at the start of the year. I set myself a target at achieving a Merit
overall by the end of this course. I felt like this was achievable as I achieved this level last year. However, I will
always aim for the best grade I can achieve. We also set long term aims and goals. At the time I was thinking
more job aspects I could do after college. However, after consideration I have chosen to go to university to better
my job in the long run. I also set myself a target of improving my skills on Photoshop. This is because last year I
struggled to obtain a mass set of knowledge for this software. However, as I have progressed this year, it has
allowed me to expand my knowledge which has allowed to be achieve my goals.
