10. Contingency Planning
Technical issues are problems involving any equipment that I will use whilst filming for example a camera or a tripod. Many or all of these problems may cause a delay or
literally halt filming and therefore I will need to be prepared to combat these issues. Organisational issues would be issues that involve how much planning I have completed
and how that will effect production. If I haven’t planned all of my production and filming in detail then I could encounter many problems which delay filming and may push
back my finish date. Logistical problems may be issues that affect the whole filming process and I may not be able to easily control them. Therefore it is a good idea to have a
plan incase any of these problems to occur, this could be anything from rain to the general public. Personnel issues would be problems involving any of the people who work
on the film production and sets; that could be the cast or crew or any other people who are involved. This could stop all production as a key person may be off and so I have
to prepare incase that happens however this can be very difficult as it is hard to find a new person to interview on short notice.
11. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be avoided?
Eye strain from looking at the Mac for too long when editing or
planning.
Every 20 minutes look at something else like the walls, people
or out the window.
Water near electrical items. On set near the camera or by the
Mac.
Keep water away from sockets and keep the lid on water as
much as possible.
Repetitive stain injury from constant typing when evaluating or
planning.
Use as short cuts as possible to reduce the amount that you
type or use the mouse.
Electric shock from loose wires. Don’t touch any where it is not necessary and check first to see
if they are open or loose.
Backache from sitting down for too long or from bending over
to the camera.
Make sure you go for a walk in the breaks so that they avoid any
leg or head problems like headaches or Deep Vein Thrombosis.
Set the camera at a suitable height or get a chair so you can sit
when filming.
Feeling nauseous from being in a class room for too long. Go outside at break to get fresh air to avoid feeling sick.
Back problems from carrying equipment. Follow the correct protocol for lifting heavy items and don’t
carry too much at one time. Get help when carrying big items.
Tripping over wires from the camera or microphone when
filming.
Make sure any wires are up out of the way or are taped down to
the floor do avoid people tripping and falling over and therefore
getting injured.
Tripping when walking and holding the camera. Make sure the route for the camera person is clear and they are
comfortable carrying it at the time.
12. Risk Assessment
This is my risk assessment to make sure that I am prepared for anything bad to happen whilst I
am filming. There aren't really that many risks likely however I have assessed them anyway just
in case so that I am covered incase something does happen. And also so that I have planed what
to do if that does happen.

1. What is your role in the Catholic Church?
2. Have you always been Catholic?
3. Have you always been religious?
4. Why did you chose a vocation rather than keeping your job and religion
separate?
5. Why did you chose this vocation?
6. Did you have any kind of epiphany?
7. What led to you choosing this path?
8. How long have you had this job for?
9. Do you enjoy what you do?
10. Do you have any regrets about choosing this vocation?
11. Can you talk me through your life from the beginning, what led you to this point?
12. What would you ay to someone now who is considering choosing a religious
vocation?
17. Location
This is the Bar Convent, a
nunnery in York where
the Sisters of the
congregation of Jesus
live. I will be shooting/
interviewing in the Grand
Parlour where there are
photographs of nuns and
religious items.
For my interview with the
priest I will be going to his
home. This is because he
is now retired and does
not belong to a parish
church anymore. Having hi
at home will surround him
with family photographs
and I own memorabilia.
When I interview the teacher
I will be going to the Roman
Catholic school where he
teaches. This means that we
will be filming in wither an
office or a classroom so that
it will have the aesthetics of a
school and will most likely
have cross in the room.

This is my digital
storyboard for the
part of the
documentary about
the nun. The general
way it will be edited
together will be
footage of the
interview,
photographs and
some other found
footage of similar or
generic situations. I
obviously don’t
know at this
moment what order
everything will be in
as it depends what
photographs she can
provide me with and
what story she tells
me in the interview.

based on the idea
that all three of the
people I am
interviewing will
have a separate mini
documentary.

22. Shot List
This shot list is not at all exhaustive as I may need to film more or less of what I have planned
for depending on what situation I find myself in when I am interviewing. The people that I am
interviewing may have some specific place to show me or photographs. They may also speak
for much more or much less time than I have planned for but I will work around that when
filming and editing. I don’t think that I will need to shoot any ‘fictional’ things however if I do
find I am struggling for archival videos I may possibly look at recreating some small scenes like
someone writing a letter or such.
23. Photographs
All Sister Agatha’s cutaways and
photographs will be provided by
online articles and photographs
from her book. She wasn’t able to
send me any personally.
Father Ross Thompson could not
send me any photographs since his
wife ad just died. This means that I
will have to use found footage and
images from google that relate to
what is he talking about.
Mr Devanney didn’t get back to me
after multiple attempts to get
photographs from his life and job.
Instead I will use religious artworks
to show the parables he is talking
about.

I chose each of these because they are all relaxing choral songs which I think fit with
the theme of the documentary which is religion as these are the kind of songs that
are played in church. They also fit with what the interviewees are saying as they are
talking about serious emotional topics and I think the music works well with that.

Fonts
This is the font I will use for any graphics on screen, e.g.
when introducing someone. It will also be used for the
title and for the credits. It is easy to read yet like old
fashioned writing which fits in with the documentary
because it is about Catholicism which is extremely old
and within the documentary the nun mentions writing a
letter and therefore I feel this relates well.
