The Issue Of Identity Politics
Identity Politics means to separate problems based upon race, class, religion, gender, ethnicity,
ideology, nation, sexual orientation, culture, information preference,
History, musical or literary preference, medical conditions, professions or hobbies. It is most
Notably be found in class movements, feminist movements, gay, lesbian and bisexual movements. The
Presidential candidates promise things just to get a vote. They might target the poor population
Promising to help by assisting with housing, food, clothes, and other essentials. On the flip side, they
might go to other States to where there are more financially fit individuals promising them the total
opposite of what was just promised to others. Identity politics is a form of Divide and
Conquer , which refers to sociology and economics, a strategy to gain or maintain power. Since
identity political arguments that focus on interest and perspectives of groups people can identify
themselves with, it could be fair to say that not all members of any given group. For example: sexual
orientation, class, religion, nationality, cultures, and ethnicity are necessary involved in identity
politics. Unless, the identity politicians include the ways in which people s politics may be affected by
these loosely combined factions. Although it can be limited to earlier involvement. Identity politics
has made its way into the 20th century in class movement like feminist, gay, lesbian, bisexual,
disabled, and ethnic movements.

Theories Of Juvenile Delinquency
The most frequently asked question of criminologists is, what causes delinquency? There are many
explanations and theories of delinquency, especially in specific regards juvenile delinquency. For the
simplicity and length, this paper will be focusing on the strain theory, social learning theory, control
theory, labeling theory, and life course theory. First the theories will be explained and defined. After
the theories have been defined, a comparison of the five will be made. Next, some contrasts of the
theories. Finally, to wrap the paper together, an analysis of which theory is the most applicable to
juvenile delinquency, specifically. The first modern version of strain theory is Robert K. Merton
(1938) which involves the inability of individuals to achieve culturally prescribed success goals, or
goal blockage . In addition to this goal blockage Merton defines two types of strain; the failure to
achieve these goals and the loss of positive stimuli and/or a presence of negative stimuli. Focusing on
the goals that are culturally prescribed for success, specifically for juveniles, these could include
money, status or respect, autonomy from adults, and thrills or excitement. Autonomy from adults is a
key goal for juveniles because as a teenager, the juvenile strives to be independent and strives to be
treated as an adult. Agnew, another prominent theorist of strain theory, lists eight types of negative
treatment or presence of negative stimuli: parental rejection, parental supervision and discipline that is
very strict/erratic/excessive given the infraction and/or harsh, child abuse and neglect, negative school
experiences, abusive peer relations, criminal victimization, homelessness, and experiences with
prejudice and discrimination based on ascribed characteristics like gender and race/ethnicity. The
frustration that results from this goal blockage increased the likelihood of crime; individuals may try
to obtain money through acts such as theft and drug selling, may strike out at others in their anger or
may focus on alternative goals that are conducive to crime (e.g., masculinity goals emphasizing
toughness) (Agnew 2012).
Social learning theory is not a single theory but rather a family of theories

Differences Between Nationalism And Imperialism

Nationalism and Imperialism Whether it s nationalism and/or imperialism we are affected by these
angles all through out our lifetime, there are benefits to both nationalism and imperialism such that
each can favorably support their nations respectively. These two features can be very powerful forces
that can bring a nation together in its greatest time of need but may be able to subjugate another
nation. By definition, nationalism is a patriotic feeling; an extreme case of nationalism is when a
person and/or country feel a strong sensation of dominance over one or more countries. In contrast
imperialism can be defined as a strategy that encompasses another countries authority and influence
amongst mediation or by using military obligation. Nationalism and imperialism both benefit society
through their social, political and technological aspects. The social traits pertaining to nationalism
result in a nations unity usually formed through a significant event or in extreme cases of patriotism.
Similarly, imperialism is moreover affected by social attributes that may not be one specific event, but
occurred over a longer period of time. Nationalism creates a united front that in time produces a well
governed nation For example the United States of America is a nation that goes to extreme levels of
promoting patriotism. The government advertises to the people to put the country first before them.

Essay on Phonics and Whole language methods
Phonics and Whole language methods
Phonics is a technique that teaches beginning readers to associate a particular sound with each letter of
the alphabet or letter combination (Unger, 1996). Students receive explicit instruction in the
mechanics of reading before they begin the actual process.
Once students know what sounds correspond with each letter or letter combination, they move on to
sounding out words. The English language has only about forty four sounds, so when students begin
to read, they move along in strict order so that he or she only sees words whose letter sounds they
have already learned (Flesch, 1983). An example from Rudolf Flesch s book Why Johnny Still Can t
Read is that students would have learned the sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other popular technique of reading instruction is whole language, also known as the look say
method. It has roots that reach back to the 1920s, when some teachers favored experience charts in
place of text books (Chall, 1992). Two of whole language instruction s biggest advocates are Ken
Goldman and Frank Smith. In the late 1960s, they observed that adults seemed to process written
word without recoding it letter by letter, or sound by sound. Based on this, Goodman and Smith
claimed that children should learn to read naturally, as they learn to speak, and that breaking words
down into sounds was unnecessary (Moats, 2000). The basic focus of whole language learning is less
on the rules and repetitions that are prevalent in phonics instruction, and more on the meaning of the
text and how it flows. Whole language emphasizes reading for meaning, and uses language in ways
that relate to the students lives directly (Curtis, 1997). Sounding out words, as used in phonics, is not
used in this type of instruction. Whole language experts advise that most students will learn to read
and write with no explicit instruction in phonics and spelling (Moats, 2000). Students are encouraged
to decode words in context, and they are taught that the answers are not as important as the process
(Haring, 1998). Often, teachers will advise students to use pictures in the story to help them figure out

The Journal of Workplace Health and Safety is a peer reviewed journal with an impact factor of 0.56.
One of the articles addresses stress and burnout problems many nurses experience that can lead to
anxiety, low quality of care, and low job satisfaction. However, nurses that take care of themselves

This article addressed a study of a cognitive behavioral course to increase a sense of coherence (SOC)
and decrease perceived stress (PS). Low SOC and high PS are factors that lead to burnout and low job
satisfaction. They can also contribute to low quality of care and productivity. Therefore, it is expected
that if a nurse has high SOC and low PS, the nurse will have higher productivity and will be better at
managing stress. The study consisted of 36 nurses that had five or more years of experience and had
worked both as a bedside nurse and in an administrative role. They were divided into intervention and
control groups and all participants took surveys at the beginning of week one and the end of week 16
that included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The
intervention group participated in a cognitive behavioral (CB) interventions during three hour
seminars weekly for 16 weeks. The seminar topics addressed issues to modify negative thinking and
improve problem solving skills. They also learned relaxation skills that included breathing techniques
and progressive muscle training. Bias was avoided by having similar socio demographic
characteristics among the participants. The chi square test, t tests, and univariate analysis of
covariance were used to test significance of the study. The results revealed a significant decrease in PS

The Theme Of Redemption In The Kite Runner
Throughout people s lives, there is a call for redemption. Some people will face their past and others
will leave it behind. The people who face their pasts will be more than likely to succeed at redemption.
Some characters from Khaled Hosseini s novel, The Kite Runner, are seeking redemption. The novel
is placed in Afghanistan and later shifts to the United States. Amir, a young Islamic boy who grows up
in Afghanistan, watches Hassan get raped when they were young. When he is older, moving to
America is when Amir finds the best opportunity to redeem himself by starting a new life and
adopting Sohrab. Amir goes back to Afghanistan and Rahim Khan describes the troubles in Afghan
during this time and also explains to Amir how Hassan stays by ... Show more content on

Amir has asked her father if they could get married and he approved. Amir is thrilled to marry Soraya,
but she wants to tell him something. Amir is excited to marry her and he says without a doubt, I don t
care what it is (164). He isn t worried about what Soraya is going to tell him and says it won t change
his mind. Soraya begins to tell him about how she ran away with and the Afghan man, got into drugs
and was rebellious at the time. She tells about when she came home, her mother had a stroke and felt
guilty. Soraya asks Amir if what she told him had bothered him. Amir says it has in fact bothered him
a little and is thinking, I owed her the truth on this one (165). It has stung his pride, but he does still
love her and has not changed his mind. After he tells Soraya that he still wants to marry her, she broke
out in tears. Soraya had the courage to tell Amir about her past and he accepted it. She successfully
redeemed herself of her past life of drugs and regret.
In Khaled Hosseini s story, The Kite Runner, Amir, Sohrab, and Soraya have tried to find redemption.
The three have succeeded, but their path to redemption has been difficult. Overall, Amir, and Soraya
were struggling with their own past lives, and Sohrab sought redemption for his father s. Hosseini s
novel portrayed how redeeming yourself, or others isn t easy. Some people will face their past and

In 1692, it was once incorporated as Buckingham Township before the name changed in 1702 to

Analysis Of David K. Shipler s The Working Poor
The novel, The Working Poor by David K. Shipler gives us an inside look into the lives of the lower
class and he explores exactly what it means to do hard, exhausting but honest work in America. The
working poor are working people whose incomes fall below the poverty line. While poverty is often
associated with joblessness, a significant proportion of the poor are actually employed. Shipler teaches
us that just because you have finally become employed does not mean that most or all of your worries
are over, often times they are increased. Largely because they are earning such low wages, the
working poor face numerous obstacles that make it difficult for many of them to find and keep a job,
save up money, and maintain a sense of self worth. Shipler did an amazing job bringing light to the
forgotten America . Shipler used different methods, interviews, participant observation, existing
sources and outcomes to display the lives of the invisible society. The interviews that Shipler
conducted took him to different locations around the country. Shipler journeys deeply into the lives of
individual store clerks, factory workers, farm laborers, sweat shop seamstresses, illegal immigrants in
low jobs and Americans with tremendous student loans and poor wages. He interviews people that
work voluntary part time, involuntary part time, usual full time and people that did not work the year.
His interviews examines the poor in a trapped cycle of dead end jobs without benefits or

Gentrification At Temple University
Gentrification is defined as, the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle
class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents ( Gentrification ).
Gentrification usually occurs when a neighborhood goes through a decline, old/run down buildings are
left to deteriorate, income levels decline, and businesses leave the area. The gentrification at Temple
University is a controversial topic that generates negative and positive opinions, from neighborhood
revitalization to displacing residents. Gentrification is considered to be highly positive in many
different ways that benefit the community. As the wealthier citizens move into the low income areas,

The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The...
The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most notably,
the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered the Roman
army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to shape the
nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond. Change came
in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of soldiers into the
Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and character.
Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the Roman army
meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman. However, despite these
aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the army post Marian reforms
developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were not unlike the concept of the
paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome. Furthermore, leadership of the army was
put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been, and these men would use the army as a means
to further their personal ambitions.
The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in the
conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property
requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men

Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles
Mel Brooks satirical western comedy Blazing Saddles is the movie that changes a genre, by heavily
making fun of it. From the start there is that initial good guy and bad guy mentality, with the hero
ultimately saving the day. A wealthy white man wants to grab a spot of land to build his railroad
through, however there is a town in the way. He sets forth to taking the town until two unlikely heroes
come to the rescue and wittingly save the day. Ultimately throughout the plot there are hilarious
commentaries on things that just don t make sense. The black slaves are always happy and cracking
jokes, and their masters are always portrayed as uncivilized uneducated children. Additionally, the
sheriff and hero of the story, Bart, is black himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie starts with a very serious and solemn Western song, typical of the era. Almost immediately
following is the nigger work song, which starkly contrasts and sets the tone for the movie. Ultimately,
even after the movie reaches its resolution and we learn that it is on a Hollywood set, the score still
remains Western aside from the movie premier sound effects. Another thing that didn t necessarily
make sense was the cowboy saving the day. Typically, as we have seen through Buffalo Bill namely,
the cowboy swoops in, shoots the bad guy, gets the girl, and uses his strength to ride off on his trusty
stallion. Here Bart concocts a rather intelligent plan, rallies the townsfolk to execute the plan together,
and doesn t really get the girl. (Truly he got the girl a few minutes earlier in the movie but that is an
entirely different can of worms). The movie as a whole, understandably, just doesn t fit in with my
idea of the Wild West. As a comedy, and a hilarious one at that, it just doesn t keep any sense of
realism. As Seth Macfarlane notes in his movie A Million Ways to Die in the West, the West is a
treacherous place with murder and disease and

Deere Company has a high expectation of the increase in profit in the future with several perspectives.
First, they expect the increases in demand for the agricultural industry because of the increase of total
population around the world, especially in the Asian and Africa regions. Thus, they expanded the
plants in China, India, and Latin America, where the middle class population is getting larger. Second,
they expect the increases of urbanization in the developing countries, where to require the
development of infrastructures in those countries. The population in the urban area is expected to

Copyright Infringement Laws And The Open Source Community
The autumn air is quite stale and the cold weather is just now starting to set in on this cold November
day. You re sitting out on the quad contemplating the thought of a new software idea and you wonder
what might you do to perfectly execute this idea. What type of challenges would be required to
properly execute the idea? Does this idea already exist and would you be crossing copyright
infringement laws? Is it easier to release the idea to the open source community than to go all the way
with protecting it so you can pursue it for all its worth? With other countries like China where using
copyrighted software ideas, owning knockoff name brand stores, and distributing fake software is
considered acceptable it leaves entrepreneurs with a sense of discouragement. Eric Allman said The
intellectual property situation is bad and getting worse. To be a programmer, it requires that you
understand as much law as you do technology. In this research paper I wish to cover the topics of
copyright infringement cases, existing intellectual property laws and groups, and purpose an idea to
protect intellectual property. The laws for protecting intellectual property are weak and we should
develop laws that everyone stateside and internationally can follow. If the world would adopt the same
set of laws for protecting intellectual property then the encouragement of pursuing ideas, creating
ideas, and inspiring young entrepreneurs would flourish.

Character Analysis Of Louise Mallard In Kate Chopin s...
Louise Mallard is the protagonist of Kate Chopin s, 1984, short story, Story of an Hour . An
intelligent, independent lady, Louise comprehends the right path for women to carry on, yet her
thoughts and emotions definitely do not immediately mirror the path. At the point when her sister
informs her that Brently, her husband, has passed on, she reacts with guilt and grief. Louise s vicious
response quickly demonstrates that she is a passionate, decisive lady. She realizes that she should
weep for Brently and dread for her own certain future. However, rather she feels delight at her newly
discovered autonomy. Louise is not unsympathetic and realizes that she will feel sadness for her
husband. Louise isolates herself, performing her own type of self cooping.
Brently Mallard, Louise s husband, as far as anyone knows was killed in a train accident. In spite of
the fact that Louise recalls Brently as a kind and cherishing man, simply being married to him made
him a harsh factor in her life. Brently arrives home ignorant that there has been a train accident. Even
though Brantly appears for only one sentence, his impact was enormous. He unintentionally kills his
own wife. His character is very strong and drastically changes the ending of what could have been, an
understanding.
Go away. I am not making myself ill. No; she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open
window (65). Louise s friend, Josephine attempted to coax Louise to leave her room and that was her
response. That sentence brings up a new piece of symbolism, the elixir of life. When it comes to
setting, not much is said exactly where. Readers can only assume it is their family home since she
goes into her room to cry and rethink life. This is the elixir of life. The room has one window and very
comfortable, armchair facing it. Louise sinks into that armchair. Her sinking into the chair is also a
reflection on how she feels emotionally. The chair is depression, and her soul is being engulfed.
Looking through the window she can see the top of trees. She could see in the open square before her
house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was

What Is Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is a reckless, selfish, and foolish thing to do at any time or in any place. When driving
drunk you are putting more lives than just you own at risk. It is illegal to drive drunk.
Driving under the influence of many medications can also cause you trouble when controlling your
vehicle. Even common drugs for colds, headaches, or allergies can cause problems when operating a

Comparing The Bracelet And All Summer In A Day
Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are. Anonymous. This connects to
the short stories The Bracelet and All Summer in a Day because they are both about being different
and judged. The Bracelet by, Yoshiko Uchida, is about a girl, Ruri, and her Japanese family getting
sent to a concentration camp. This took place during WWII when the Japanese has just bombed Pearl
Harbor. Because of this, many Japanese were being sent to concentration camps because the US
government thought that all Japanese were spies. But actually, most of the Japanese were loyal to the
US. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, is about a girl named Margot, who lived on Venus with
her family and others. But all the other kids there came when they were two years old. Margot came
when she was four years old. So, all the kids but Margot don t know what the sun looks like because,
on Venus, it would rain every day nonstop. But, every 7 years, the sun would come out and it would
only be out for exactly 1 hour. Once that one hour is up, then the pouring rain would start again. In the
beginning of the story, the rain started to slow down, and then the kids started to not believe Margot
that the sun would come out. So they locked her in the closet and continued to look out the window.

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Character Analysis
Even though we may not realize it, the environments we live in have a big effect on our personality
and character. People are reflections of the interactions they make with the people and institutions
surrounding them, and when this is changed the people themselves change too. This is prevalent in
both The Lord of The Flies by William Goldberg and The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong by Tim O
brien, as both stories cause the characters introduced in their isolated settings to adapt in a way that
reflect their new surroundings. These characters start out as normal individuals, but as time passes,
they accustom themselves to the new circumstances they face. As demonstrated by Mary Anne from
The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong and Jack from The Lord of the Flies a severe change in
environment results in an extreme, yet gradual change in character, and goals which are marked by

personality and goals reflect the environment she has been living in for the majority of her life and the
interactions she has with others. This is similar to how Jack is near the beginning of The Lord Of the

The capacity of the Dechaffers for the dry berries was also given as 1500 bbl/hr and once again the
implied and actual utilization will be 1.0. Switching to the Wet Berries, we see that there are two
Dechaffers that can each store up to 1500bbl/hr, which will add up to a capacity of 3000bbl/hr. We can
calculate the implied utilization of the wet berry Dechaffer by dividing the input rate (1500bbl/hr) by
the capacity (3000bbl/hr) and the actual utilization by dividing the Flow Rate (600bbl/hr) by the
capacity (3000bbl/hr). The Dryers set the standard for the wet berries because they are the bottleneck
of the operation. There are three dryers that can process 200bbl/hr, giving us a total capacity of
600bbl/hr. The implied utilization is not very realistic because it takes the 1500bbl/hr input rate and
divides it by the 600bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization of a bottleneck is always 1.0 because it is
operating at maximum capacity. Lastly, there are three separators that have a capacity of 400bbl/hr
each, giving us a total of 1200bbl/hr. The implied utilization will be discovered as 1.25 because you
are taking the 1500bbl/hr input rate and dividing it by 1200bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization can
be found by 600bbl/hr (wet berries) plus 375bbl/hr (dry berries) and using them as your input rate. So
you will divide the 975bbl/hr by 1200bbl/hr capacity and get .8125. 2. Enter your answer and

And Setting In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
What if you could own a room, a room where whatever you thought took form? It would, of course,
not be real. But it would smell real, look real, and feel real. Would this be a room you would want?
Ray Bradbury, an author, tells of such a story using many different writing techniques. Ray Bradbury
uses setting, conflict, and foreshadowing to manipulate the plot of the story The veldt and make it
more interesting. Setting is an important part to any story whether it be fictional, sci fi ,romance, or
any story for that matter. But setting is more than just a place and a time. Setting is also how the
author saturates the story with mood and meaning. The setting for The Veldt is in a Happylife home,
where all actions are performed for them by machines. Tying shoes, cooking, all things are done for
them by machines. While this may sound like a pretty good place to live, it does have it s
shortcomings. It would give you no work ethic for starters. But in The Veldt the conflict only
surrounds the mechanical home to an extent. The conflict more pertains to a room in the known only
to the reader by the nursery . It is essentially a room where whatever you imagine comes to fruition.
The children in the story, or what the reader may deem the antagonists, have dreamt up a room of
Africa. Not the fun Africa with festivals and hotels either. The africa with lions that kill and a blazing
hot sun. This sort of setting puts across that the children in the story are very upset and are

Addressing Increased Wildfires
A summary of Four Expert Witness Testimonies
John Bailey is a Professor of Silviculture and Fire Management at OSU. In his testimony, John
describes wildfire as inevitable. He links the 2017 wildfire in Oregon and West to a combination of
climate change and increasing amounts of fuel. Fuels have been increasing in terms of total quantity
and connectivity between the many acres and as a result, wildfires burn in increasingly large areas.
The Forest Service has been making mistakes by being unable to treat the increasing surface fuels
previous years before the fires. John recommends active land management which would include ...

He also urges the Congress to give both state and landowners sufficient authority to do initial
suppression activities in case of federal forests fire breakouts. (Energy Commerce, 2017).
Christopher Topik has been the Director of the Nature Conservancy Program which is an international
organization aimed at protecting ecologically important lands. In his written testimony, Christopher
advises all levels of government to work with local communities in fire preparation. He also advises
the use of healthy fires during cooler and wetter months to help reduce the risk of harmful wildfires.
The current emergency fire suppression funding needs to be fixed. Another approach suggested by
Christopher is the expansion of Fire Learning Network programs in communities to help people learn
how to live with fire and smoke. (Energy Commerce, 2017).
Other Website Opinions and Reports Union of Concerned Scientists (2017), reported that global
warming has been the cause of the increased wildfire. The website explains that wildfire seasons in the
United States are expected to lengthen. As a solution to address the issue, Union of Concerned
Scientists (2017) says that mitigation steps should be taken like safety standards. According to the
John Bailey s testimony discussed above, climate change plays part in wildfires but forest
management is also a concern. The Union of Concerned Scientists didn t report any

Divorce Effects Divorce
How Divorce Affects the Formation of Healthy Friendships and Relationships
Several factors come into play when considering the impact that a divorce has on the child s future
relationships, including age at the time of the divorce, gender, upbringing, etc. For the most part
however, there are a few crucial parts of a relationship that most divorces affect, whether the
relationship be with a friend, family member or significant other.
Parental divorce often decreases the level of trust that a child of divorce finds in a relationship.
Children whose parent s have divorced exhibit a fear of being rejected by those they become close to,
and often distrust that their friends, family members, or significant others will remain loyal and close.
This lack of trust often hampers any deepening in the relationship, and is believed to be the result of
having a dysfunctional example of a marital relationship set before them. Many children of divorce
have reportedly been less trusting of their own or a partner s fidelity, and have had difficulty in fully
committing to or choosing one person.
In addition, studies have shown that those who have had first hand experience of a divorce in their
home are 38% more likely than to go through their own divorce than those who did not. These
children suffer through weakened relationships with nearly all family members, especially those
members with whom the child does not visit frequently. Since 90% of custodial parents are mothers

Chamberlain s Policy Toward Germany Essays
Chamberlain s Policy Toward Germany
Appeasement is the term used to describe the foreign policies of the British Conservative governments
of Baldwin (1935 37) and Chamberlain (1937 40) and also those of France and America to a lesser
extent. Appeasement involved making concessions to the two main dictators of Europe; Hitler and
Mussolini.
Hitler broke many of the stipulations of the Treaty of Versailles, yet nothing active was done, there
was only spoken denunciation of his actions. Hitler stopped paying reparations in 1933. Hitler began
to openly rearm in 1935. Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland on 7 March 1936. He united with

Aerial bombardment was also a real threat as had been demonstrated by the Luftwafe in Guernica
where the whole town had been destroyed. The worry was that this could happen to London, meaning
many civilian casualties on the home front it would be total war. Furthermore, Britain was more
worried about defending its empire and had been concerned about the threat from Japan in the Far
East. It could not deal with aggression from both Germany and Japan. In economic terms, Britain was
still suffering from the effects of the Great Depression and Chamberlain was reluctant to spend vast
sums of money on improving the country s armed forces. Weak defences, he believed, would not
matter if Britain avoided war. Public opinion also supported appeasement and there was a mood of
pacifism. Chamberlain, as an elected representative, was doing his job by representing the views of his
people when considering foreign affairs.
Secondly, Chamberlain held a good view of Hitler and Germany. Chamberlain felt that the Treaty of
Versailles had been too harsh and took a favourable view of Hitler s complaints about how unfair the
treaty had been to Germany. He believed that if Germany s complaints were dealt with fairly then
Europe could look forward to a long period of peace. Chamberlain also thought that Hitler was a
reasonable man and admired him for his economic successes and achievement of

How Is Hamlet Selfish
The Bible says Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written,
Vengeance is mine, I will repay. (Romans 12:19). In modern society, most people do not think about
revenge as a bad thing, but rather as a natural part of life. Sometimes it is viewed down upon and
questioned by those with high moral standards, or when a person wants revenge so severe that it
would require blood to be shed. This was the case for Hamlet in the play Hamlet, by Shakespeare.
After finding out his father had been killed by his Uncle, who had taken over the throne of Denmark,
he is filled with anger and hatred, along with a feeling of self loathing. Throughout the course of the
play, Hamlet pretends to be a madman so he can have his way, questions death and what comes after
dying, and wonders if he should actually kill another human being. After the conflict is resolved,

During the first act of the play, after he found out his uncle, Claudis, killed his father, he was enraged.
This is demonstrated during his conversation with the ghost of his father when he says Haste me to

(1.5 31 37). By saying this, Hamlet acknowledges that he is ready to kill and is not afraid of what
follows. However, somewhere in his line of reasoning, he questions whether killing a person is
morally justified. He comes up with multiple reasons on why not to kill him, one being that the king is
praying and he wants to send him to hell, not to heaven. Eventually, his resolve hardens when he sees
Fortinbras s army march across Denmark, and makes the remark:
That, for a fantasy and trick of fame

Similarities And Differences Between Ancient Greens And...
In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first
mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has social levels and classes, a
governmental system, and a developed culture. Both of these societies fit into these parameters. In this
essay we will explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and hierarchy as they apply to
these societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict hierarchical framework, ranking
people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is described as having the king and
queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army commanders coming second, then
the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally, slaves, who had been captured in war.
(Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society was structured as such: the Pharaoh
came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief
advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, and made local laws. Priests followed, and were
responsible for performing rituals and ceremonies. Scribes were a very important group, as they were
the only ones who could read or write, so they were the record keepers. A small percentage of boys
from good families were trained for this particular job, starting at the age of five. Soldiers came next,
and were responsible for the defense of the country. Craftsmen were workers who were

Media Vs. Body Image
Jade Liu

English 1301 029
October 17, 2015 Media vs. the body Image Body image remains to be a very controversial topic in
today s society, because of how easy it is to become a hate crime over a small comment on how small
or big someone s body is. Today, it is unavoidable to see the look that it seems society wants us to
look. Professor Susan Bordo writes the article, Never Just Pictures , describing her investigation
between the media and its effects on how people view their bodies. She uses ethos, logos, and pathos
to bring in the attention of the people, in order to get her message across to be aware of media and
how they portray the ideal body image. Bordo notes the patterns of the different types of models that
magazines and commercial ads use, to say that even though they have changed the face of beauty, they
never really changed the body of it. And she analyzes the affects that these ads have on how people
view their bodies, and alter what the ideal body image is. Bordo uses other sources to prove her
argument mainly allowing readers to have more reasons to side with her argument. Having reviewed
this article, I think that we should publish this article in the Shorthorns, because it will attract the
attention of most people, since right now young people still struggle with differentiating between what
is a real body and what is a body that has been altered for the likes of what the media likes. Bordo s
main claim to the article is that media is

  • 2. The Issue Of Identity Politics Identity Politics means to separate problems based upon race, class, religion, gender, ethnicity, ideology, nation, sexual orientation, culture, information preference, History, musical or literary preference, medical conditions, professions or hobbies. It is most Notably be found in class movements, feminist movements, gay, lesbian and bisexual movements. The Presidential candidates promise things just to get a vote. They might target the poor population Promising to help by assisting with housing, food, clothes, and other essentials. On the flip side, they might go to other States to where there are more financially fit individuals promising them the total opposite of what was just promised to others. Identity politics is a form of Divide and Conquer , which refers to sociology and economics, a strategy to gain or maintain power. Since identity political arguments that focus on interest and perspectives of groups people can identify themselves with, it could be fair to say that not all members of any given group. For example: sexual orientation, class, religion, nationality, cultures, and ethnicity are necessary involved in identity politics. Unless, the identity politicians include the ways in which people s politics may be affected by these loosely combined factions. Although it can be limited to earlier involvement. • 3. Theories Of Juvenile Delinquency The most frequently asked question of criminologists is, what causes delinquency? There are many explanations and theories of delinquency, especially in specific regards juvenile delinquency. For the simplicity and length, this paper will be focusing on the strain theory, social learning theory, control theory, labeling theory, and life course theory. First the theories will be explained and defined. After the theories have been defined, a comparison of the five will be made. Next, some contrasts of the theories. Finally, to wrap the paper together, an analysis of which theory is the most applicable to juvenile delinquency, specifically. The first modern version of strain theory is Robert K. Merton (1938) which involves the inability of individuals to achieve culturally prescribed success goals, or goal blockage . In addition to this goal blockage Merton defines two types of strain; the failure to achieve these goals and the loss of positive stimuli and/or a presence of negative stimuli. Focusing on the goals that are culturally prescribed for success, specifically for juveniles, these could include money, status or respect, autonomy from adults, and thrills or excitement. Autonomy from adults is a key goal for juveniles because as a teenager, the juvenile strives to be independent and strives to be treated as an adult. Agnew, another prominent theorist of strain theory, lists eight types of negative treatment or presence of negative stimuli: parental rejection, parental supervision and discipline that is very strict/erratic/excessive given the infraction and/or harsh, child abuse and neglect, negative school experiences, abusive peer relations, criminal victimization, homelessness, and experiences with prejudice and discrimination based on ascribed characteristics like gender and race/ethnicity. The frustration that results from this goal blockage increased the likelihood of crime; individuals may try to obtain money through acts such as theft and drug selling, may strike out at others in their anger or may focus on alternative goals that are conducive to crime (e.g., masculinity goals emphasizing toughness) (Agnew 2012). Social learning theory is not a single theory but rather a family of theories ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Differences Between Nationalism And Imperialism Kayla Melo J. Cormier CPW 4U1 Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Nationalism and Imperialism Whether it s nationalism and/or imperialism we are affected by these angles all through out our lifetime, there are benefits to both nationalism and imperialism such that each can favorably support their nations respectively. These two features can be very powerful forces that can bring a nation together in its greatest time of need but may be able to subjugate another nation. By definition, nationalism is a patriotic feeling; an extreme case of nationalism is when a person and/or country feel a strong sensation of dominance over one or more countries. In contrast imperialism can be defined as a strategy that encompasses another countries authority and influence amongst mediation or by using military obligation. Nationalism and imperialism both benefit society through their social, political and technological aspects. The social traits pertaining to nationalism result in a nations unity usually formed through a significant event or in extreme cases of patriotism. Similarly, imperialism is moreover affected by social attributes that may not be one specific event, but occurred over a longer period of time. Nationalism creates a united front that in time produces a well governed nation For example the United States of America is a nation that goes to extreme levels of promoting patriotism. The government advertises to the people to put the country first before them. For instance Ask not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Phonics and Whole language methods Phonics and Whole language methods Phonics is a technique that teaches beginning readers to associate a particular sound with each letter of the alphabet or letter combination (Unger, 1996). Students receive explicit instruction in the mechanics of reading before they begin the actual process. Once students know what sounds correspond with each letter or letter combination, they move on to sounding out words. The English language has only about forty four sounds, so when students begin to read, they move along in strict order so that he or she only sees words whose letter sounds they have already learned (Flesch, 1983). An example from Rudolf Flesch s book Why Johnny Still Can t Read is that students would have learned the sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other popular technique of reading instruction is whole language, also known as the look say method. It has roots that reach back to the 1920s, when some teachers favored experience charts in place of text books (Chall, 1992). Two of whole language instruction s biggest advocates are Ken Goldman and Frank Smith. In the late 1960s, they observed that adults seemed to process written word without recoding it letter by letter, or sound by sound. Based on this, Goodman and Smith claimed that children should learn to read naturally, as they learn to speak, and that breaking words down into sounds was unnecessary (Moats, 2000). The basic focus of whole language learning is less on the rules and repetitions that are prevalent in phonics instruction, and more on the meaning of the text and how it flows. Whole language emphasizes reading for meaning, and uses language in ways that relate to the students lives directly (Curtis, 1997). Sounding out words, as used in phonics, is not used in this type of instruction. Whole language experts advise that most students will learn to read and write with no explicit instruction in phonics and spelling (Moats, 2000). Students are encouraged to decode words in context, and they are taught that the answers are not as important as the process (Haring, 1998). Often, teachers will advise students to use pictures in the story to help them figure out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Low SOC and high PS are factors that lead to burnout and low job satisfaction. They can also contribute to low quality of care and productivity. Therefore, it is expected that if a nurse has high SOC and low PS, the nurse will have higher productivity and will be better at managing stress. The study consisted of 36 nurses that had five or more years of experience and had worked both as a bedside nurse and in an administrative role. They were divided into intervention and control groups and all participants took surveys at the beginning of week one and the end of week 16 that included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS). The intervention group participated in a cognitive behavioral (CB) interventions during three hour seminars weekly for 16 weeks. The seminar topics addressed issues to modify negative thinking and improve problem solving skills. • 10. Analysis Of David K. Shipler s The Working Poor The novel, The Working Poor by David K. Shipler gives us an inside look into the lives of the lower class and he explores exactly what it means to do hard, exhausting but honest work in America. The working poor are working people whose incomes fall below the poverty line. While poverty is often associated with joblessness, a significant proportion of the poor are actually employed. Shipler teaches us that just because you have finally become employed does not mean that most or all of your worries are over, often times they are increased. Largely because they are earning such low wages, the working poor face numerous obstacles that make it difficult for many of them to find and keep a job, save up money, and maintain a sense of self worth. Shipler did an amazing job bringing light to the forgotten America . Shipler used different methods, interviews, participant observation, existing sources and outcomes to display the lives of the invisible society. The interviews that Shipler conducted took him to different locations around the country. Shipler journeys deeply into the lives of individual store clerks, factory workers, farm laborers, sweat shop seamstresses, illegal immigrants in low jobs and Americans with tremendous student loans and poor wages. He interviews people that work voluntary part time, involuntary part time, usual full time and people that did not work the year. • 12. The Reforms Of Gaius Marius And The Aftereffects Of The... The first century BC brought about a number of important changes for the Roman army. Most notably, the reforms of Gaius Marius and the aftereffects of both the Social and Civil Wars altered the Roman army as a whole. Bringing about both continuity and change, these events would help to shape the nature, composition and character of the army of the Late Republic period and beyond. Change came in the form of reforms brought about by Marius; the changing of the conscription of soldiers into the Roman army would alter not only the formation of the army, but also its nature and character. Furthermore, the granting of full citizenship to non Roman troops who fought for the Roman army meant a blurring of a distinct Roman identity, or what it meant to be a Roman. However, despite these aspects of change, continuity too came out of this period. The troops of the army post Marian reforms developed strong patron client relationships with their generals that were not unlike the concept of the paterfamilias that had existed since the beginnings of Rome. Furthermore, leadership of the army was put into the hands of a select few, as it always had been, and these men would use the army as a means to further their personal ambitions. The largest of these changes to the Roman army were arguably the changes Gaius Marius made in the conscription of soldiers. Conscription pre Marius took the form of the state issuing a property requirement for soldiers who wished to join the army. These men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A wealthy white man wants to grab a spot of land to build his railroad through, however there is a town in the way. He sets forth to taking the town until two unlikely heroes come to the rescue and wittingly save the day. Ultimately throughout the plot there are hilarious commentaries on things that just don t make sense. The black slaves are always happy and cracking jokes, and their masters are always portrayed as uncivilized uneducated children. Additionally, the sheriff and hero of the story, Bart, is black himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie starts with a very serious and solemn Western song, typical of the era. Almost immediately following is the nigger work song, which starkly contrasts and sets the tone for the movie. Ultimately, even after the movie reaches its resolution and we learn that it is on a Hollywood set, the score still remains Western aside from the movie premier sound effects. Another thing that didn t necessarily make sense was the cowboy saving the day. Typically, as we have seen through Buffalo Bill namely, the cowboy swoops in, shoots the bad guy, gets the girl, and uses his strength to ride off on his trusty stallion. Here Bart concocts a rather intelligent plan, rallies the townsfolk to execute the plan together, and doesn t really get the girl. (Truly he got the girl a few minutes earlier in the movie but that is an entirely different can of worms). The movie as a whole, understandably, just doesn t fit in with my idea of the Wild West. What type of challenges would be required to properly execute the idea? Does this idea already exist and would you be crossing copyright infringement laws? With other countries like China where using copyrighted software ideas, owning knockoff name brand stores, and distributing fake software is considered acceptable it leaves entrepreneurs with a sense of discouragement. An intelligent, independent lady, Louise comprehends the right path for women to carry on, yet her thoughts and emotions definitely do not immediately mirror the path. At the point when her sister informs her that Brently, her husband, has passed on, she reacts with guilt and grief. Louise s vicious response quickly demonstrates that she is a passionate, decisive lady. She realizes that she should weep for Brently and dread for her own certain future. Louise isolates herself, performing her own type of self cooping. Brently Mallard, Louise s husband, as far as anyone knows was killed in a train accident. In spite of the fact that Louise recalls Brently as a kind and cherishing man, simply being married to him made him a harsh factor in her life. Brently arrives home ignorant that there has been a train accident. Even though Brantly appears for only one sentence, his impact was enormous. He unintentionally kills his own wife. This connects to the short stories The Bracelet and All Summer in a Day because they are both about being different and judged. The Bracelet by, Yoshiko Uchida, is about a girl, Ruri, and her Japanese family getting sent to a concentration camp. This took place during WWII when the Japanese has just bombed Pearl Harbor. Because of this, many Japanese were being sent to concentration camps because the US government thought that all Japanese were spies. But actually, most of the Japanese were loyal to the US. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, is about a girl named Margot, who lived on Venus with her family and others. But all the other kids there came when they were two years old. Margot came when she was four years old. So, all the kids but Margot don t know what the sun looks like because, on Venus, it would rain every day nonstop. But, every 7 years, the sun would come out and it would only be out for exactly 1 hour. Once that one hour is up, then the pouring rain would start again. In the beginning of the story, the rain started to slow down, and then the kids started to not believe Margot that the sun would come out. People are reflections of the interactions they make with the people and institutions surrounding them, and when this is changed the people themselves change too. This is prevalent in both The Lord of The Flies by William Goldberg and The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong by Tim O brien, as both stories cause the characters introduced in their isolated settings to adapt in a way that reflect their new surroundings. These characters start out as normal individuals, but as time passes, they accustom themselves to the new circumstances they face. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The capacity of the Dechaffers for the dry berries was also given as 1500 bbl/hr and once again the implied and actual utilization will be 1.0. Switching to the Wet Berries, we see that there are two Dechaffers that can each store up to 1500bbl/hr, which will add up to a capacity of 3000bbl/hr. We can calculate the implied utilization of the wet berry Dechaffer by dividing the input rate (1500bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr) and the actual utilization by dividing the Flow Rate (600bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr). The Dryers set the standard for the wet berries because they are the bottleneck of the operation. There are three dryers that can process 200bbl/hr, giving us a total capacity of 600bbl/hr. The implied utilization is not very realistic because it takes the 1500bbl/hr input rate and divides it by the 600bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization of a bottleneck is always 1.0 because it is operating at maximum capacity. Lastly, there are three separators that have a capacity of 400bbl/hr each, giving us a total of 1200bbl/hr. The implied utilization will be discovered as 1.25 because you are taking the 1500bbl/hr input rate and dividing it by 1200bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization can be found by 600bbl/hr (wet berries) plus 375bbl/hr (dry berries) and using them as your input rate. So you will divide the 975bbl/hr by 1200bbl/hr capacity and get .8125. 2. Enter your answer and supporting arguments for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But it would smell real, look real, and feel real. Would this be a room you would want? Ray Bradbury, an author, tells of such a story using many different writing techniques. Ray Bradbury uses setting, conflict, and foreshadowing to manipulate the plot of the story The veldt and make it more interesting. Setting is an important part to any story whether it be fictional, sci fi ,romance, or any story for that matter. But setting is more than just a place and a time. Setting is also how the author saturates the story with mood and meaning. The setting for The Veldt is in a Happylife home, where all actions are performed for them by machines. Tying shoes, cooking, all things are done for them by machines. While this may sound like a pretty good place to live, it does have it s shortcomings. It would give you no work ethic for starters. But in The Veldt the conflict only surrounds the mechanical home to an extent. The conflict more pertains to a room in the known only to the reader by the nursery . It is essentially a room where whatever you imagine comes to fruition. The children in the story, or what the reader may deem the antagonists, have dreamt up a room of Africa. Not the fun Africa with festivals and hotels either. The africa with lions that kill and a blazing hot sun. This sort of setting puts across that the children in the story are very upset and are ... Divorce Effects Divorce How Divorce Affects the Formation of Healthy Friendships and Relationships Several factors come into play when considering the impact that a divorce has on the child s future relationships, including age at the time of the divorce, gender, upbringing, etc. For the most part however, there are a few crucial parts of a relationship that most divorces affect, whether the relationship be with a friend, family member or significant other. Parental divorce often decreases the level of trust that a child of divorce finds in a relationship. Children whose parent s have divorced exhibit a fear of being rejected by those they become close to, and often distrust that their friends, family members, or significant others will remain loyal and close. This lack of trust often hampers any deepening in the relationship, and is believed to be the result of having a dysfunctional example of a marital relationship set before them. Many children of divorce have reportedly been less trusting of their own or a partner s fidelity, and have had difficulty in fully committing to or choosing one person. In addition, studies have shown that those who have had first hand experience of a divorce in their home are 38% more likely than to go through their own divorce than those who did not. Appeasement involved making concessions to the two main dictators of Europe; Hitler and Mussolini. Hitler broke many of the stipulations of the Treaty of Versailles, yet nothing active was done, there was only spoken denunciation of his actions. Hitler stopped paying reparations in 1933. Hitler began to openly rearm in 1935. Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland on 7 March 1936. He united with Austria in 1938 and in the same year, he took over the ... Furthermore, Britain was more worried about defending its empire and had been concerned about the threat from Japan in the Far East. It could not deal with aggression from both Germany and Japan. In economic terms, Britain was still suffering from the effects of the Great Depression and Chamberlain was reluctant to spend vast sums of money on improving the country s armed forces. Weak defences, he believed, would not matter if Britain avoided war. Public opinion also supported appeasement and there was a mood of pacifism. Chamberlain, as an elected representative, was doing his job by representing the views of his people when considering foreign affairs. Secondly, Chamberlain held a good view of Hitler and Germany. Chamberlain felt that the Treaty of Versailles had been too harsh and took a favourable view of Hitler s complaints about how unfair the treaty had been to Germany. He believed that if Germany s complaints were dealt with fairly then Europe could look forward to a long period of peace. • 29. How Is Hamlet Selfish The Bible says Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay. (Romans 12:19). In modern society, most people do not think about revenge as a bad thing, but rather as a natural part of life. Sometimes it is viewed down upon and questioned by those with high moral standards, or when a person wants revenge so severe that it would require blood to be shed. This was the case for Hamlet in the play Hamlet, by Shakespeare. After finding out his father had been killed by his Uncle, who had taken over the throne of Denmark, he is filled with anger and hatred, along with a feeling of self loathing. Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet pretends to be a madman so he can have his way, questions death and what comes after dying, and wonders if he should actually kill another human being. This is demonstrated during his conversation with the ghost of his father when he says Haste me to know t , that I, with wings as swift / As meditation or the thoughts of love / May sweep to my revenge (1.5 31 37). By saying this, Hamlet acknowledges that he is ready to kill and is not afraid of what follows. However, somewhere in his line of reasoning, he questions whether killing a person is morally justified. He comes up with multiple reasons on why not to kill him, one being that the king is praying and he wants to send him to hell, not to heaven. Eventually, his resolve hardens when he sees Fortinbras s army march across Denmark, and makes the remark: That, for a fantasy and trick of fame Go to their graves like beds, fight for a plot Whereon the numbers cannot try the cause, Which is not tomb enough and ... In comparing and contrasting the societies of Periclean Athens and ancient Egypt, we must first mention some of the characteristics of an actual society: a society has social levels and classes, a governmental system, and a developed culture. Both of these societies fit into these parameters. In this essay we will explore social classes, gender relations, social inequality, and hierarchy as they apply to these societies. Both ancient Athens and Egypt adhered to a strict hierarchical framework, ranking people as superiors or inferiors. Old Kingdom Egyptian hierarchy is described as having the king and queen at the top, with priests, administrators, governors and army commanders coming second, then the commoners who worked mostly in agriculture, and finally, slaves, who had been captured in war. (Hunt, pg. 22). According to Esolen, (pg. 35), Egyptian society was structured as such: the Pharaoh came first, and was believed to be God on earth. Next came the Vizier , who was the pharaohs chief advisor. Nobles were next in the hierarchy, and made local laws. Priests followed, and were responsible for performing rituals and ceremonies. Scribes were a very important group, as they were the only ones who could read or write, so they were the record keepers. A small percentage of boys from good families were trained for this particular job, starting at the age of five. Soldiers came next, and were responsible for the defense of the country. Body Image Jade Liu Tesdal English 1301 029 October 17, 2015 Media vs. the body Image Body image remains to be a very controversial topic in today s society, because of how easy it is to become a hate crime over a small comment on how small or big someone s body is. Today, it is unavoidable to see the look that it seems society wants us to look. Professor Susan Bordo writes the article, Never Just Pictures , describing her investigation between the media and its effects on how people view their bodies. She uses ethos, logos, and pathos to bring in the attention of the people, in order to get her message across to be aware of media and how they portray the ideal body image. Bordo notes the patterns of the different types of models that magazines and commercial ads use, to say that even though they have changed the face of beauty, they never really changed the body of it. And she analyzes the affects that these ads have on how people view their bodies, and alter what the ideal body image is. Bordo uses other sources to prove her argument mainly allowing readers to have more reasons to side with her argument. Having reviewed this article, I think that we should publish this article in the Shorthorns, because it will attract the attention of most people, since right now young people still struggle with differentiating between what is a real body and what is a body that has been altered for the likes of what the media likes.
