C A S E 1 3 . 2 Business Case: Steve Jobs’ Shared Vision Project Management Style Steve Jobs (1955–2011) co-founded Apple Inc. and reinvented the PC, music players, phones, tablets, and digital publish- ing (Figure 13.11). He is regarded as technology industry’s most notable luminary. He continuously managed remark- ably innovative projects—extremely successful ones as well as many failures. Although widely recognized as a marketing and technology guru, Jobs was largely successful because of his project-based approach for managing his business and pro- ducing new products. His approach to executing projects ulti- mately changed the business world. Jobs’ shared vision project management style offers lessons to help managers focus and motivate their team to get projects completed on schedule. Shared Vision and Accountability A signifi cant part of what made Jobs successful was his per- sistent push to keep projects moving while communicating with his team to ensure they were working toward the shared vision. He stressed accountability and did not let anyone slide on that principle. He got to know everyone on the team and actively inspired them. Guy Kawasaki, Apple’s chief evangelist and liaison to the Mac developer community, said Jobs appreciated great work. He was well known for giving employees feedback—publicly telling them if they were great or lousy. His bluntness infuriated some people but also motivated them to either do their best or leave. Communication Structure, understanding, and inspiration depend on the one irreplaceable management skill: communication. Part of what made Jobs so successful was his constant push to keep projects moving while communicating with his team to ensure they were working toward a shared vision. He held regular meetings to avoid wasting time with long e-mail chains and having to address the same concerns multiple times. Do Not Just Listen—Understand There is a big difference between listening and understand- ing. Jobs made sure he understood everyone on his team and that they understood him. This is done by making people demonstrate that they understand and not simply asking them if they understand. When everyone confi rms they are on the same page, they will keep moving forward. Knowing how to move a group of people who all has a common goal but all have a different point of views takes some skills this person will also need systematization. But along with a person to help everyone stay focus and moving the technology that is used for communication is also very important. Making sure everyone can communicate and send files that everyone can case and edit can help keep the project moving forward. Picking the right software from the beginning will make the sharing of information easy. Now for Brook’s Law, I believe if the right people are added and understand the objective this may not slow down the project. Adding a programmer or someone else to help write the simple code like for a table whiles the other people who have been on the project creates the more complex code is a great use of adding people. “Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques applied to project activities in order to meet the project requirements. Project management is a process that includes planning, putting the project plan into action, and measuring progress and performance.” I think a good project manager makes sure the project is completed within the time scheduled, within budget and good quality. While it is rare that a project goes without any mishaps, a good project manager would be able to catch those issues early if he/she is communicating and writing things down as the project progresses.
I think Fredric Brooks book The Mythical Man-Monthdoes have some truth to it still to this day especially regarding communication. While technology has advanced and there are smarter people, if the communication is not clear on how a project should go, workers' interpretations of what they thought was stated, could lead to a disaster. Knowledgeable, skilled workers who are not afraid to ask questions is the key.

We all use technology on a daily basis and are unconscious about the individual
that made it all happen. Steve jobs is one of the founding fathers of next generation cell phones. His
technology is also used for corporate business, highly classified security and the most common
one, public use. Steve jobs was born in February, 24 1955 in the city of San francisco in the United
States of America. He was born as the first child and his parents who were in University set him up
for adoption. He was adopted by biological parents, Paul and Clara jobs. Steve was a train driver
for a railroad company, but his parents wanted their children to have a sustainable education and
moved to the city of Mountain view. Due to high costs of Reed college in Portland 1972, he was
forced to drop out with very little profit. In 1976 he moved to California he had been involved with
Woznik and created a computer and called it the Apple 1. Apple was recently launched by Steve
Jobs and Steve Wozinak, his old highschool friend, known as the co-founder, which began in 1976.
Their small shop was located in California, where they worked on revolutionizing technology, by
building the world’s first user-friendly computer. This came out to be a big success and they had
changed the way consumer technology was looked back then. They started creating computer
parts, even for Microsoft. Apple was so integreid by their first successful launch, they decided to
hire a new management team, where they introduced the first ever apple computer known as the
iMac. Yet again this product was marvelous and caught the attention of many consumers once
again. This product was released one year after the initial launch of the first user-friendly
computer. Their evolution of technology leveraged their company and started to become more
known in the world.

Unlocking the Passion of the Explorer

Ch. 4: How do you think planning in today’s organizations compares to planning twenty-five years ago? Do you think planning becomes more important or less important in a world where everything is changing fast and crises are a regular part of organizational life? Why?
The changing environment is one of the greatest considerations encounter when leaders begin planning organizationally. “The patterns and events occurring in the environment can be described along several dimensions, such as whether the environment is stable or unstable, homogenous or heterogeneous, simple or complex”
(Daft, 2013, p. 152)
. An additional element that could be considered would be the difference in the use of technology in organizations that allowed the creation of global organizational design challenges.
The need for coordination, transfer of knowledge and innovation, plus the complexity and differentiation of organizations twenty-five years ago was limited to only a few transnational companies. To see how technology and organizational design are intertwined we must understand how people use tools to do their tasks. In the field of sociotechnical systems, the interconnected nature of people, tools, tasks, and organizational form is a topic that has been explored during many years of research. Organizational structures are now being designed based on network-work-based functionality (Pentland, & Feldman, 2007). Processes such as logistics, sales, and a customer service have been changed and transformed through the development of these. This helps explain how a company that is based in the United States and has its sales force headquartered in the Philippians, ultimately changed the way organizational planning can be done.
In the book of Luke, Jesus discussed the importance of planning. Luke 14:28-29 (KJV) tells us, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

There have been several studies identifying various models of organizational decline. These studies have lead to the publication of management literature that is replete with discussions and frameworks on the processes such a decline (Mellahi, 2005; Sheppard & Chowdhury, 2005; Weitzel & Jonsson, 1989). Each of these models broadly encompasses early warning, firm response, failed action, and finally organizational collapse. These stages may help businesses gain an enhanced understanding of the problems and issues that they may find themselves faced with, in a rapidly changing environment.

How do you build a social organization? We're not talking about tweeting and posting updates on Facebook. Ch. 4: How do you think planning in today’s organizations compares to planning twenty-five years ago? Do you think planning becomes more important or less important in a world where everything is changing fast and crises are a regular part of organizational life? Why?
The changing environment is one of the greatest considerations encounter when leaders begin planning organizationally. “The patterns and events occurring in the environment can be described along several dimensions, such as whether the environment is stable or unstable, homogenous or heterogeneous, simple or complex”
(Daft, 2013, p. 152)
. An additional element that could be considered would be the difference in the use of technology in organizations that allowed the creation of global organizational design challenges.
The need for coordination, transfer of knowledge and innovation, plus the complexity and differentiation of organizations twenty-five years ago was limited to only a few transnational companies. To see how technology and organizational design are intertwined we must understand how people use tools to do their tasks. In the field of sociotechnical systems, the interconnected nature of people, tools, tasks, and organizational form is a topic that has been explored during many years of research. Organizational structures are now being designed based on network-work-based functionality (Pentland, & Feldman, 2007). Processes such as logistics, sales, and a customer service have been changed and transformed through the development of these. This helps explain how a company that is based in the United States and has its sales force headquartered in the Philippians, ultimately changed the way organizational planning can be done.
In the book of Luke, Jesus discussed the importance of planning. Luke 14:28-29 (KJV) tells us, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

Before I started college, my parents wanted me to excel in healthcare knowing its high demand. The path to health care and eventual employment in a notable hospital setting seemed less risky than the one of Art and design. A few networking events and some LinkedIn leads later I came across an opportunity to start a Biomedical Engineering startup in South Florida with two investors willing to mentor me in a field I wasn’t familiar with. Luckily this new venture I was undertaking had a somewhat speculative risk. I made sure they were mostly in my favor thanks to the connections my investors had in the industry, and my background in health care. My hard work and diligence paid off slowly teaching myself the mechanics of the industry through the engineers we would hire. I remember watching how they would calibrate medical devices from pumps to life-saving equipment in awe. And with the same tenacity absorbing all the medical jargon in the Biomed world. I was adamant about doing my best and being the best even if that meant leaving my creative dreams behind. We started the business almost four years ago as a small minority women-owned business in the corner of a business complex. Five biomedical engineers and six technicians later we are still scaling and have since expanded our office from that small corner to the entire business building. Currently, we are a nationally recognized Biomed and medical supply company for some of the largest healthcare facilities in both the civilian and government sector. Yet through out all the achievement I felt the only sense of raw passion was when I collaborated with my engineers in delivering problem solving services to the hospital we served. Their job was to service devices in a hospital at a micro level and I would bridge that gap by identifying problems and finding opportunities in product service at a large-scale. Working hand in hand with the engineers in articulating the hospital need for turnover I would use design through projective process in creating a plan that would work in the most practical sense.
This moment of free creative problem solving was the highlight of my job. It gave me an opportunity to realize that although at times my approach was unconventional it would work. My systematic methodology I had adapted from working with engineers and my innate out of the box idea would come to together to solve some of the most challenging issues. Little did I know that this minor stroke of self-awareness would one day have me consider architecture.

I realized my creative talents in design could not flourish under the pressures of work. I would constantly leave the office feeling drained in a profession my heart was not set on. 1. (question 1) I do believe that this is proper for a democracy to provided such power to FED. Without the FED the economy would face two problem, which are recessions that can lead into depressions, and inflation. The FED needs to have power to endures the country will not fall into economic trouble. In class professor McWeeney stated that the FED has the power to increase interest rates to control inflation, and the power to decrease interest rates so that theres more money in the economy to create more business and jobs so there wont be a recession. The FED needs these power to try to put the economy in a sweet spot. The FED is held accountable to the government and public. The FED does this by being transparent and giving and annual report to congress.
2. (question 2) I believe that the roles of the government should be changed from era to era. My main reason the roles should be changed is because major changes are constantly happening in the field of law. For example, the progressive era and modern era had several economic reforms that had taken place including increased regulation, anti-trust activity, application of an income tax, raise on social insurance programs, etc. Throughout this time, the government gave women the right to vote. I believe the economy is growing rapidly due to employment relationships, better technology, education, new polices, social and economic changes. This is the reason why the roles of the government should be changed from era to era.

In order to increase the focus on teaching civic responsibility, policy must be in place supporting this goal. Staff members may have different levels of interest, understanding, and comfort when it comes to incorporating civic responsibility into their teaching, so providing professional development in this area would be critical. This week, we will explore risk management. Risk management is one of those areas in project management that separates good project managers from great project managers. A good project manager makes risk management an integral part of every phase of project work. Risks are identified, prioritized, and understood. There are clear responsibilities within the team as to whose is responsible for implementing a risk response to reduce the impact should it occur. So let's get started.
What is Risk?
*Risk: An uncertain event or condition that, if it occurs, has a positive or negative effect on one or more project objectives.
Risks can be positive, meaning beneficial to the project, or they can be negative, meaning detrimental to the project.
Many students have a difficult time visualizing positive risks. A positive risk is an opportunity that may increase the probability of success, the return on investment, or the benefits of the project. They may also be ways to reduce project costs or ways to complete the project early. There may even be methods to improve project quality or overall performance. These are all examples of positive risks.
A negative risk can be easier to understand. It is the possibility that something will go wrong, a threat to the success of the project. It is important to remember that a risk is a possibility, not a fact. It is a potential problem. At GettaByte Software, there is the potential that a power outage would occur during data transfer. The potential exists that a key resource could become unavailable due to some unforeseen circumstance, like illness. Those are threats to the success of the project.

A project manager needs to consider trying to make positive risks happen while trying to prevent negative ones from occurring. - 1. 436 Chapter 13 Project Management and SDLC 3. Managing a project with Microsoft Project is often the approach to IT project management, but many users prefer to use Microsoft Excel instead. The main reasons are that MS Project is too expensive, wastes too much time to set up and keep updated, and is tough to use. The debate between Excel and Project has valid arguments for either approach. Research the reviews of Excel and MS Project as project management tools. When is each software appropriate for use? C A S E 1 3 . 2 Business Case: Steve Jobs’ Shared Vision Project Management Style Steve Jobs (1955–2011) co-founded Apple Inc. and reinvented the PC, music players, phones, tablets, and digital publish- ing (Figure 13.11). He is regarded as technology industry’s most notable luminary. He continuously managed remark- ably innovative projects—extremely successful ones as well as many failures. Although widely recognized as a marketing and technology guru, Jobs was largely successful because of
- 2. his project-based approach for managing his business and pro- ducing new products. His approach to executing projects ulti- mately changed the business world. Jobs’ shared vision project management style offers lessons to help managers focus and motivate their team to get projects completed on schedule. Shared Vision and Accountability A signifi cant part of what made Jobs successful was his per- sistent push to keep projects moving while communicating with his team to ensure they were working toward the shared vision. He stressed accountability and did not let anyone slide on that principle. He got to know everyone on the team and actively inspired them. Guy Kawasaki, Apple’s chief evangelist and liaison to the Mac developer community, said Jobs appreciated great work. He was well known for giving employees feedback—publicly telling them if they were great or lousy. His bluntness infuriated some people but also motivated them to either do their best or leave. Communication Structure, understanding, and inspiration depend on the one irreplaceable management skill: communication. Part of what made Jobs so successful was his constant push to keep projects moving while communicating with his team to ensure they were working toward a shared vision. He held regular meetings to avoid wasting time with long e-mail chains and having to address the same concerns multiple times. Do Not Just Listen—Understand There is a big difference between listening and understand- ing. Jobs made sure he understood everyone on his team and that they understood him. This is done by making people demonstrate that they understand and not simply asking them if they understand. When everyone confi rms they are on the same page, they will keep moving forward.
