Whether you are a team of one, or in a big UX team, at some point in your career, you will find yourself having to demonstrate and explain the value of UX in a project or even in a company, if you haven’t already.
As part of a UX conference on the theme, "how do you UX", I explore ways we can have these dialogues with varying audiences. The discussion can vary from explaining what UX is and hosting/ facilitating workshops internally to show the process to your peers, to the ROI of UX to senior management in order to resource additional budgeting, or even to clients as new business pitches.
This presentation will discuss barriers that might come up and techniques on how to sell UX to different audiences.

Ron says, "The essence of the relationship between product managers and software development managers should be collaboration: pairing as product leaders. I've seen too many strained relationships. But I've also seen and experience the sparks of synergy that result from close collaboration - working relationships that have enhanced the product, professional and personal lives of everyone in the product organization and through the company."
John says, "I'm really delighted to be joining the Global Product Management Talk to lead this discussion, having co-hosted several times. ProdMgmtTalk is such a unique forum for Product Managers, with high-quality insight from a truly global audience. Talking about how to manage a product's end of life stage should enhance everyone's product chops."
Despite the similar names, there are big differences between product management and project management. The confusion between the two roles is common and potentially harmful to organizations who do not acknowledge the distinction. This is often the case for companies that develop web-based and technology products.
A common challenge is that the two roles often appear to be at odds with each other. A product manager may want to add a lot of features to meet customer needs, but the project manager may want to limit the scope so that the project is delivered on time and under budget.

The most important thing a product manager will do is develop an understanding of their market. The second most important thing they will do is form a strategy for their product, given that understanding. The third most important thing is to communicate to the rest of the team what needs to be done, to implement that strategy, to win in that market.
That's why we write requirements - to communicate what needs to be built, as part of an approach to meeting the needs of a market. The rules of writing requirements help us communicate more effectively when writing requirements. Pretty narrow scope, pretty powerful impact.

"This is the second time I'm speaking on the Global Product Management Talk. Its a great opportunity to connect in real time with the product management community on Twitter and I'm looking forward to the added component of the live broadcast to talk about one of the most vital aspects of building successful products," says Jeff.
“For many organizations, traditional product management and marketing practices can only take them so far. I love the conversational format of Global Product Management Talk to get new ideas out there because the dialogue is much more valuable than a one-way monologue that's typical of most web-based communications,” commented Mansour.
"I'm thrilled to join the Global Product Management Community for this ProdMgmtTalk. There's a lot of offline discussion about how to structure product management teams, "where do I go from here?" and other organizational challenges. I'm looking forward to a free-wheeling session with passionately opinionated members of the product management community!" says Rich.
“I have found that most product management organizations don't have a clear measure of their maturity and health, so in my session with the Global Product Management Talk, I hope to share some ideas that will help product management organizations establish a clear vision for their organization, assess their maturity against that and create a plan to grow and become more effective in delivering globally competitive products and services,” says Tom Evans.

Joe says, "Figuring out ways to ship more product is a passion of mine. The problem spans technology, product, design, and people, which is what makes it so interesting. I'm excited to talk more about the colliding worlds of iterative development and product management with the community on Global Product Management Talk."
Joe Stump, CEO And Cofounder Of Sprint.ly, Discusses The Iterative Product Development Process, Automating Product Releases And Metrics
The software iterative development process enables every product iteration to result in at least one software release. Because of its collaborative, problem-solving character, iterative software development is similar to a multidisciplinary project or parallel development, which places a high demand on communication between the project team and project stakeholders, and among team members themselves. Also referred to as non-blocking development, this process aligns the entire business, from sales to software development, to ship more product more quickly.
Joe Stump, CEO And Cofounder Of Sprint.ly, will discuss the Iterative Product Development Process, Automating Product Releases And Metrics on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the simultaneous times of 10:00 AM Pacific Time, 11:00 AM MST Denver, 12 Noon CST Chicago, and 1:00 PM EST Boston. Kelly says, "So often the good folks in Product Management work in isolation, plying their trade behind the firewall. Because Product Managers are multi-talented folks, we tend to learn from communities whose focus is UI/UX, Entrepreneurship, Programming or Engineering. Feeling at home in so many places, we forget to talk with each other. I love that the Global Product Management Talk exists so that we can form a community of our own."
This Global Product Management Talk Twitter discussion will uncover how value co-creation can be applied to the successful development of products and services.
Transcript of Tweets. There tends to be a lot of debate on the roles & responsibilities of the Project Manager vs. the Product Manager. In this twitter talk, we would like to gain a better understanding of how these roles can more effectively work together to bring to market high quality products.
Hector says, "I'm looking forward to this important discussion with the Global Product Management Talk since I speak with professionals seeking to advance their product management careers on a daily basis. I'm delighted to join other participants in the ProdMgmtTalk community who already serve as mentors, perhaps in an informal way, by generously sharing their expertise and contributing to the visibility of the product manager's role in successfully guiding products throughout the entire product lifecycle process."
Transcript of Tweets from discussion. In today's economy most organization have strict budget constraints which limits the amount of resources that can be dedicated to new products and product enhancements. Add to this, the fact that most industries are increasingly competitive and companies that do not keep up and adapt to fast changes find themselves rapidly fading out of existence.
Teresa says, "I'm looking forward to discussing developing product expertise with Cindy and the Global Product Management Talk community. The broadcast and Startup Product events are an excellent platform for discussing important issues that forward product professionals and leaders to guarantee that more big ideas turn into great products."

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

INTRO
Design strategy focuses on providing a framework for developing design solutions that support a given product
strategy. Product strategy addresses the business model, roadmap, and prioritization of business requirements
for a product. When an organization’s level of usability maturity is low, UX is not actively involved in the product
development process until the build and testing phase – much too late. UX professionals can often add the
greatest value for user-centered design during requirements identification at the start of most product
development processes. This discussion will identify how product management can integrate essential UX
procedures such as defining personas, writing design briefs, composing stories, creating storyboards and
building wireframes throughout the product lifecycle process from ideation to design to guarantee that successful
products are built.
