John says, "I'm really delighted to be joining the Global Product Management Talk to lead this discussion, having co-hosted several times. ProdMgmtTalk is such a unique forum for Product Managers, with high-quality insight from a truly global audience. Talking about how to manage a product's end of life stage should enhance everyone's product chops."
Greg says, "Both Actuation Consulting and Global Product Management Talk share a common goal of enhancing the profession of product management. In fact, Actuation Consulting's tagline is actually “Advancing the Profession of Product Management”. We're pleased to be able to participate with #ProdMgmtTalk in order to forward our common mission."
The document summarizes a discussion on product roadmapping led by Bill Galfano, President of MileMarker, during the Global Product Management Talk on Twitter and audio on November 14, 2011. The discussion involved questions about how participants manage their product roadmaps, how they communicate roadmap information to stakeholders, and how they prioritize new features. Participants shared various approaches to roadmapping, including using themes in roadmaps and balancing roadmap details with iteration planning.
Despite the similar names, there are big differences between product management and project management. The confusion between the two roles is common and potentially harmful to organizations who do not acknowledge the distinction. This is often the case for companies that develop web-based and technology products.
A common challenge is that the two roles often appear to be at odds with each other. A product manager may want to add a lot of features to meet customer needs, but the project manager may want to limit the scope so that the project is delivered on time and under budget.

Ron Lichty, author of the book "Managing the Unmanageable: Rules, Tools, and Insights for Managing Software People and Teams", will speak at the Global Product Management Talk on managing software development teams. The talk will discuss how to transform chaos into clarity through collaboration between product managers and software development managers. Lichty has 20 years of experience managing software teams and turning around problematic situations at companies.

RULES OF REQUIREMENTS WITH SCOTT SEHLHORST

The most important thing a product manager will do is develop an understanding of their market. The second most important thing they will do is form a strategy for their product, given that understanding. The third most important thing is to communicate to the rest of the team what needs to be done, to implement that strategy, to win in that market.
That's why we write requirements - to communicate what needs to be built, as part of an approach to meeting the needs of a market. The rules of writing requirements help us communicate more effectively when writing requirements. Pretty narrow scope, pretty powerful impact.

Joe Stump, CEO And Cofounder Of Sprint.ly, Discusses The Iterative Product Development Process, Automating Product Releases And Metrics
The software iterative development process enables every product iteration to result in at least one software release. Because of its collaborative, problem-solving character, iterative software development is similar to a multidisciplinary project or parallel development, which places a high demand on communication between the project team and project stakeholders, and among team members themselves. Also referred to as non-blocking development, this process aligns the entire business, from sales to software development, to ship more product more quickly.
Joe Stump, CEO And Cofounder Of Sprint.ly, will discuss the Iterative Product Development Process, Automating Product Releases And Metrics on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the simultaneous times of 10:00 AM Pacific Time, 11:00 AM MST Denver, 12 Noon CST Chicago, and 1:00 PM EST Boston. The Global Product Management Talk is a discussion of vital issues affecting professionals passionate about products, business process, product management, startups, marketing, innovation and excellence.
Tom Evans, Principal at Lûcrum Marketing, spoke at the weekly Global Product Management Talk on Twitter on February 27, 2012. The discussion focused on assessing product management and product marketing practices within companies. Evans noted that most companies do not proactively evaluate these practices and only look at them when problems arise. He suggested establishing regular audits to review structures, processes and outputs to ensure product excellence. Other participants agreed that companies should review these teams and processes proactively rather than just when things go wrong.
Kelly says, "So often the good folks in Product Management work in isolation, plying their trade behind the firewall. Because Product Managers are multi-talented folks, we tend to learn from communities whose focus is UI/UX, Entrepreneurship, Programming or Engineering. Feeling at home in so many places, we forget to talk with each other. I love that the Global Product Management Talk exists so that we can form a community of our own."
John Mansour, founder of Proficientz, spoke at the Global Product Management Talk on January 30th, 2012 about the need for a new class of product manager focused on strategy. He discussed how corporate strategy often does not align with product strategy and many organizations lack dedicated roles for product strategy. Mansour advocated for "portfolio managers" to help connect product initiatives to financial goals and ensure strategic alignment across multiple products and business units.
This document summarizes Cindy Solomon's presentation on how to create a culture for product excellence. She defines product excellence differently depending on where a product is in its lifecycle. Early on, excellence means the product works as intended, while later it means the user experience and integration with other products. To drive alignment across functions, she recommends understanding other perspectives, gaining respect, translating roadmaps, and delivering results. The goal is to have all functions see success through a product lens.
This webinar discusses the future of retail and the impact of emerging technologies. It features a panel of experts including Julian Burnett, CTO of TH_NK, and Vicki Loomes, a senior trend analyst. The webinar will cover topics like the evolving expectations of modern shoppers, the role of personalization, improving brand communications through technology, how brands can appeal to millennial shoppers, and measuring the modern shopper experience. Attendees are invited to ask questions.

John says, "I'm really delighted to be joining the Global Product Management
Talk to lead this discussion, having co-hosted several times. ProdMgmtTalk is
such a unique forum for Product Managers, with high-quality insight from a truly
global audience. Talking about how to manage a product's end of life stage
should enhance everyone's product chops."
John Newbury, B2B Marketing Professional, spoke at the weekly Global
Product Management Talk on Monday, August 6, 2012 with host Cindy
F. Solomon and co-host Greg Gehrich.
Many businesses fail to realize that releasing a new product is often
easier than retiring an old one. While major organizational resources are
spent in the product development and release cycles, many times
product retirement becomes an expensive afterthought. This discussion
will investigate the very back-end of the Product Life Cycle - product
obsolescence. This vital but frequently overlooked stage of the PLC
plays a hugely significant role in the product portfolio. Managed well, it
can re-energize your portfolio, support the innovation process and
improve levels of customer loyalty. Managed badly - or worse, not at all -
it can be damaging and expensive to the organization and it's customers.
