This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a new algorithm to detect duplicate and fake currency notes in Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The proposed algorithm involves ATMs reading the unique number on each note deposited and storing it in a central database connected across all ATM networks. When a note is withdrawn, its number would be checked against the central database to detect duplicates or notes not in the valid numbering series. This would help eliminate fake notes from circulation and improve security, reliability and customer satisfaction with ATM transactions.
