The Role Of Companionship In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Throughout the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the main characters consistently seek out a
companion. Victor depends heavily on companionship from Clerval to keep him from going insane
in times of hardship and tragedy. Walton desires the companionship of a man to share in the beauty
and wonder of things throughout his travels. When asked to be exiled away to South America, The
Creature has one sole request for Victor Frankensteinbefore he leaves; a female companion to help
him bear the burden of loneliness. The Creature makes his proposal to Victor explaining the
struggles he has endured in an attempt to convince him. Many Romantic characteristics are
prevalent in his request as he regales Victor with the tales of his life so far, which... Show more

One of these would be equality. Throughout his first days of life, The Creature is consistently
rejected by all those around him, including his own creator. This happens repeatedly throughout
his life. In seeking out a companion, this shows the characteristic of equality because he just
wants to be like everyone else and be able to make connection in life. He wishes that his life
wasn t filled only with loneliness and rejection, but with the love of another being. I am alone
and miserable; man will not associate with me... (Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, Chapter 16, Page
133). The Creature is aware of what he looks like and he knows that the only things that could
ever offer him companionship is something just like him. Another Romantic Element would be
the Individual versus society. The Creature faces rejection from everyone and his desire for a
companion to be built for him shows just that. He has been pushed away from every single person
that he has tried to connect with. He has been poised against society. He knows that the only
person who he has a chance of building a relationship with is one who was made just like him, just
as terrible

Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism emphasizes much like the Shinto tradition the act of cleansing, accept that it focuses
on meditation as a way to purify the mind. This interpretation of purification as seen within the
Buddhist teachings, is the attempt to clear the mind of contaminated beliefs, concepts, and
materials, which can be harmful to someone seeking enlightenment. This can be understood by
Dogen who wrote within the Bendowa that the, The person seated in zazen without fail casts off
body and mind, severs all the heretofore disordered and defiled thoughts and views emanating from
his discriminating consciousness, conforms totally with the genuine Buddha Dharma, (Dogen
2002, p. 12). Within this section of the text, Dogen uses a metaphysical approach to... Show more

The negativity of being attached to materialistic objects and desires are the two most prominent
possessions that Dogen explains must be destroyed in order to achieve absolute awareness. This
belief is evident when Dogen states that, Leaving no perceptions in any sphere or directions; all
living beings use it unceasingly, with no sphere or direction appearing in their perceptions, (Dogen
2002, p. 8). This describes Dogen s thought that by being restricted or limited to think in a certain
way can be a leading influence where pollutants of the mind can grow and fester. The historical
context of the following passage was that Dogen gave the distinction that zazen was the more
superior technique. This was asserted in order to gain a better understanding of the prominent
technique that was utilized by the Buddha during his pilgrimage to Japan and China. It remains
evident that much like Shinto tradition, Zen Buddhism attempts to clarify within its own
interpretation the causes of these types of mental toxins, and ways in which they can be cured.
Although Shinto focuses primarily on physical impurities, Zen Buddhism describes them on a
spiritual level and so it is through this where we can see the clear relations that the two respective
religions have with each

Notes On Rock Fracture Density And Permeability
4.3. Subsurface water considerations to research: 4.3.1. Rock Fracture Density and Permeability
Estimates Fracture density can be defined as the number of fractures per unit length, area or
volume. Fracture density is largely dependent on local bedding thickness and location relative to
local faults. Due to the mountainous nature of the Andes Mountains and the close proximity of
Ocelot Mine to the MFTB, the limestone host rock can be considered to have a heavy fracture
density. Fractures also have a strong influence on the permeability of a host rock. Permeability is
a function of the transmissivity of individual rock fractures as well as how the individual fractures
connect together to form fracture networks. The transmissivity of rocks in a specific environment
is difficult to quantify; however, they are largely dependent on the fracture aperture distribution.
A mean aperture for limestone is 265 micrometers. The connectedness of a fracture network is
strongly dependent on the spatial density of fractures in a rock which can be quantified at the
surface through detailed mapping or through the subsurface by seismic travel times [2]. The
Antmania copper zinc mine is located 100 km southwest of the Ocelot lease area and is the
closest mine to our location. Hydrogeological research done at Antamina has revealed an average
permeability value of 10 6m/s to 10 7m/s with local bedrock units also displaying karstic features

Essay about Macroeconomics
You may have already studied microeconomics, which looks at supply, demand and prices for
individual goods. Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the
economy as a whole.
National income
Let us start by looking at a simple example a
two sector economy made up of households
(consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with
we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors.
Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply
these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn
rewards for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This model will use the following definitions: Consumption (C) consumption goods produced and
sold to customers i.e., the chairs.
Savings (S) income that is not spent on consumption. Investment (I) production of, or expenditure
on, non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of
consumption goods.
Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment.
Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings.
Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings
income not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but
will also carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods.
There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow.
These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2)
Figure 2
Notes to Figure 2
In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing
national product (E). Output of consumption goods by firms equals consumption expenditure by
household s (C). Note that households do not spend all their income instead they save (S) a leakage.
Expenditure on non consumption goods by firms is investment (I) an injection.
Income (Y) = Expenditure (E)

like brushing Lily s hair. Lily goes to Tilburon in search of her mother, not knowing whether her
mother had really been there. After August presents Lily with her mother s items, she finds the
photo of her mother feeding her as a child, and all the longing and sadness of her life is
contained in her reaction. Through August and Zach, Lily begins to find loving connections to
humans who treat her like she is a human being. The teacher who first encouraged her began that
connection, and Rosaleen followed it up. Now the Boatright home and sisters show her what it is

Transitioned The Responsibility From An Outsourced It...
Introduction
This paper details a project that transitioned the responsibility from an outsourced IT service
delivery model to an insourced delivery model within a Military Department (MilDep). The
purpose is to understand why the goals of the insource service are not being met and more
tactically, why IT governance is not working.
The paper will first provide description of the context of the case, the organizations, and the
players (See Appendix A for list of all major players). The next major section will provide an
analysis of the identified issues and relationships of the case. The conclusion section will discuss
emergent patterns identified within the case, resulting lessons, and potential future research areas.

The reorganization also transferred the majority of the responsibility for IT operations from
ITPCom to CyCom. Numerous individuals performing the tasks, also moved to CyCom. The five
stakeholder organizations became known as the iron pentagon .
In June 2013, BGen ITPCom officially reported to the Chief of the MilDep that the transition to the
insourcing model was completed on schedule and further announced an overarching IT plan for the
MilDep was being developed to guide the MilDep s IT approach. The IT unification plan was
unilaterally promulgated to the iron triangle several months later without opportunity to comment.
While the transition from the contractor was declared completed, the contractor continued to
provide some critical services. Therefore, the MilDep s IT processes remained immature and
untested. For example, there was no full end to end process to obtain neither a new computer nor
standardized helpdesk support. The process owner s confidence in the ability to deliver service
was low but the senior managers believed the processes would matured over time.
In 2013 with the transition completed, the transition management group was disbanded and the
ITPCom senior executive assigned to lead the effort retired as planned. The five iron pentagon
senior managers established an informal group to coordinate activities across the organizations.
However, transition of executive and senior level managers prevented the

Impact Of Stalinism
Assess the impact of Stalinism on the Soviet State until 1941
1st paragraph Stalin, the cult of personality
Stalin s cult of personality, derived through propaganda, censorship and education, was an essential
element of Stalinism which had a significant impact on the society and culture of the Soviet State
between until 1941. Stalin s 50th birthday on 21 December 1929 initiated the moment in Stalin s
dictatorship in which the leader became an object of worship. Millions of party member came to
compare Stalin to Lenin, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Eventually the cult of Stalin saw him as

Stalin s Five Year Plans included the embarkment of huge industrial projects and a campaign to
collectivise agriculture. Almost all party members agreed that the Soviet State would require
massive industrial growth to achieve a secure society. Collectivisation was to be undertaken to
ensure food supplies to the cities and help mechanisation, increase output and reduce costs . The
first of Stalin s Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as
hydro electric power, coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan
failed due to falls in food and consumer goods output and the many unrealistic plan targets. The
second of the Five Year Plans was scheduled to begin in October 1928 and focused on the
production of consumer goods for the workers and peasants to increase their production, as well
as development of heavy industry base for the military. The third of the Five Year Plans was
intended to increase the supply of scarce consumer goods. However, the Third Plan never met its
goals as it was interrupted by the German attack on Russia in June

An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s Poem, To My Dear and...
The poem To my Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet, is not just an exceedingly felt
expression of a wife s marital love and commitment to her husband, as it is about a puritan women
who is supposed to be reserved but she makes it her obligation to enlighten her husband of her
devotion. A thorough analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals
how she conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings are for
her husband. Bradstreet shows this by the use of a great example of a paradox, if two were one,
then surely we. This shows that the magnitude of her loveand affection is so deep that she s
comparing two beings as one. She praises her love for her husband so much... Show more content

I m really surprised to learn that this was not common back for puritan women back then. In my
opinion, the author is very open about how she feels about her husband. You can tell that
throughout the poem she is repeating herself and stressing on the same idea over and over
again. She praises, adores, and loves her husband and is taking an initiative to show it by writing
this letter to him. It s interesting how she began the poem by using the word ever in the first two
lines and how she ended it with the same word on line 12. Then while we live, in love lets so
persevere That when we live no more, we may live ever. I would like to end my analysis of this
poem by stating a paradox that can be found at the end of the poem in lines 11 12. Her love for
her husband is on such a level that she wants to preserve it while they live and even after they die.
It s amazing to me how much love one can have for a person. The poem s main idea is not just
centralized on how much Bradstreet loves her husband, but also on a Puritan woman who takes the
initiative to show her love to her husband which was very uncommon back

Gregor As An Allusion In Kafka s Metamorphosis
In Kafka s Metamorphosis it s hard to believe that there would be any allusions to the bible
because of Kafka s religion being Judaism. However, we can see many different symbolisms in
the story that can represent different aspects of the bible and most importantly we can see that
gregor can be a reflection of Jesus Christ himself. I believe that the way that Gregor was
depreciated and hated by his family even though he provided for them can be an allusion for
Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, was brought down by his father, to a land of sinful people. He was
brought down to care and cure diseases of these unbelieving and malicious people. Above
everything else Jesus Christ loved and cared for the people. He demonstrated selflessness, endless

Characters In Alice Munro s Differently
In Alice Munro s short story Differently, the main character Georgia recounts memories of Maya
and their fallout when she visits her friend s widowed husband many years later. Upon her visit, her
mind is flooded with memories of friendship, infidelity, and broken trust which inevitably
disconnected her from Maya and Ben (Georgia s husband). Throughout the text, the author
highlights the main character s inability to filter through many details as she describes the end of
various relationships following Maya s betrayal. The author s thorough description of settings,
characters, and events emphasizes Georgia s difficulty in focusing on what details of her life are
important, as most of them seem important to her.
The opening words of Alice Munro s Differently introduce the style the author uses throughout the
short story: Georgia once took a creative writing course, and what the instructor told her was: Too
many things. Too many things going on at the same time; also too many people [...] What do you
want us to pay attention to? Think (Munro 1). These lines echo in the mind of the reader as they
dive further into the text, reading about too many things and meeting too many people.
Munro introduces Georgia, Raymond, Maya, Ben, Harvey, Anne, Hilda and her former creative
writing instructor all within the first few pages. The role of each character (aside from the creative
writing instructor) is clouded with the details of their physical appearance or small mannerisms.

The Existence Of Life And Energy
Order Disorder
Daniel Singh
Engineering and the Profession
Dr. Leo Oriet
Friday, November 7, 2014
Singh 2 The existence of life and energy has always been questioned. It is not clear as to how life
on earth is sustained by energy and how that energy is produced. The explanation to all of this lies
in the law of conservation of energy and the amazing work done by many intelligent people. Over
many centuries, the development of new technology has furthered studies in science and advanced
the standard of life for many people. The steam engine is one example of this. The creation of the
theory on energy, the works of many scientists, and the theory of entropyexplain how energy is

Energy is always conserved from one item to another, meaning it cannot be created or destroyed
in any way, shape, or form. This is the law of conservation of energy. Energy from the big blast
has been conserved on the earth in plants, minerals, water, and more. Energy is extremely
important to our everyday lives as it is the basis for all life interaction. All living organisms need
energy to sustain life; this energy can be found in food and water. Plants will receive energy from
the sun and humans and animals will receive energy by eating these plants
Singh 3 as well as meat from other animals. In engineering, energy is what powers machinery,
automobiles, and equipment. Engineers have developed many successful operations to harnessing
and manipulating energy. Fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro, solar, and wind power are commonly used
processes that extract useable energy from the earth. These processes utilize refineries for fuel,
nuclear reactions between atoms, hydroelectric power stations, solar panels, and wind turbines to
convert energy from the earth to useable potential energy. This in turn powers the machinery used
to harvest food, build structures, and travel from point A to point B. The concept of energy was in
full effect for millions of years; however, it took many skilled scientists to actually conceptualize it.

Kennedy also borrowed the train crash which she transformed to a car crash, which both
resulted in death. In the text it states, It was he who had been in the newspaper office when
intelligence of the railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard s name leading the list
killed. This quote shows how Kennedy effectively took the train accident, and turned into a fatal
car crash, which in this day in age is more relevant. She cohesively included both borrowed
elements quite effectively. In Charlotte s Back it indicates a sense of fear and horror in the
reader. For example, the text states, She was covered in blood, her eyes were red, and her pink
dress was cut and mangled. This quote explains how Kennedy included graphic elements and
descriptions to frighten the reader. Gothic elements and were also included into the the work.
The gloomy ad ominous setting of the insane asylum gave off a mysterious and gothic feel.
Kennedy also included supernatural elements to hit on the the horror genre. Charlotte reappeared
as a ghost and came back to haunt and kill her father, which fits right into the gothic feel of the
story. These gothic elements, such as the ghost, are also some of Kennedy s childhood fears. She
once stated in an interview that she always believed as a child that her baby dolls moved and were
real. It even got to the point where she had to throw them away. She used this childhood fear

Miriam, Deborah and Huldah all are names of prophets from the Bible; they also all happen to be

The Lord gives the command; the women who proclaim the good tidings are a great host. With all
of this support for women, why are they treated as the inferior sex in the church?
The article, Women and Gender; Reading the Bible through the Eyes of Women, states that it is

so that the entire community may benefit from their contribution. However, many churches do not

Corinthians 14: 34 35: Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak,
but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should
ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a church. In
Corinthians, Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, which was a major cosmopolitan city filled
with idolatry and immorality. In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men
in public. Some women thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the
men in public worship, and this caused a division in the church. Women in that day did not receive
formal religion education like men, so women may have been raising questions in the services that
could have been answered at home. Paul was trying to promote unity, not teach about women s

Another verse brought to question is 1 Timothy 2: 11 14, which reads: A woman should learn in
quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man;
she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it

The Secret River By Kate Grenville And William Shakespeare
How has the Kate Grenville and William Shakespeare used compositional features to express both
similar and different ideas of difference and power?
The Secret River, set in England and Australia, was written by Kate Grenville in 2006. William
Shakespeare s play Othello was written in 1603 and set in Venice. Kate Grenville and William
Shakespeare used compositional features to express both similar and different ideas of difference
and power. They have cohesive ideas of power such as the use of structure and symbolism to
convey power however, differ in their structure. They both expressed race through the context of the
novel, setting, narrative perspective and imagery. However, 17th century english conveyed the idea
of difference with greater subtlety than Kate Grenville s use of modern english . Similarly both
texts contain powerful characters, however, these characters are differently placed and different
compositional features were used to portray these ideas.
Kate Grenville and William Shakespeare expressed ideas of power through representation of objects
as well as the structure and society within the text. Both texts express power through gender, race

Symbolism In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Goblin Market tells the story of two devoted young sisters, Laura and Lizzie. Goblin men curse
one sister after offering her special fruit, and the other sister must face the goblin men to save her

symbolism in her work, Goblin Market. Examples of symbols used in the poem include fruit, Lizzie,
goblinmen, and money.
First, fruit is a symbol in Goblin Market. At the beginning of the poem, the goblin men advertise the
fruits they are selling:
Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries,
Melons and raspberries... (Rossetti lines 3 8)
Laura is seduced into purchasing these fruits from the goblin men. She sucked and sucked and
sucked the more/ Fruits which that unknown orchard bore;/ She sucked until her lips were sore
(Rossetti 134 136). I believe that the fruit is a symbol for sin. Laura knows that she should not
be indulging in the forbidden fruit, but her desire for the fruit prevails over her caution of the
goblin men (Rossetti 69 106). Lizzie warns her from listening to the goblin men (Rossetti lines 48
49). Just as Eve in the Bible eats the forbidden fruit, Laura eats the fruit as well. Eve becomes
cursed because she eats the forbidden fruit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

For Teenage Girls By Clementine Von Radics
Throughout a woman s life, she is told time after time that she cannot do certain things because of
her gender. People tell women that they cannot be the CEO of the world s largest company or the
President of the United States because it is a man s job. Clementine von Radics poem, For
Teenage Girls, emphasizes the sexism imposed on girls from a young age and how women of
history have proven the prejudice against women wrong. Throughout Radics poem, female figures
of history are named to shine light on past events that have put a dent in the stereotypes and
prejudice held against women. The named women were alive during different time periods and
have different ethnicities to emphasize that any womanis capable of making a difference

The Church Of Worship Associated With Their Religion
For the many people who choose to follow a religion, the place of worship associated with their
religion often serves as the center of their religious experience. For followers of Christianity, this
significant place is a church. By attending church services weekly, or sometimes even daily,
more common among extremely devoted members, people give meaning to the church itself.
Without the church community, meaning the people who belong to the church, the church
could be just any another brick building at the end of the street. This is not the case, however, as
active church members, and even just visitors, like myself, each instill their own meaning into
the church, and the sum of all of these individual experiences is what makes the church so
meaningful. Before this past weekend, I had only ever been to churches for weddings and
funerals. I did not grow up in a religious family, so the concept of going to church was never
prominent in my mind, nor a part of my life. From a young age, though, I could always tell that
churches were significant places. While many churches are large and grand, clearly displaying
their importance, even smaller, more simple churches still seem to demand a level of respect that
other sorts of buildings just do not. So, I decided to use this opportunity to find out what I had
been missing throughout my life: going to a Sunday church service. My friend Camille is a
member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, a relatively new denomination of

created a computer for the public no one had ever seen before. iMacs were colorful, simple to
plug in, and showed a smooth design while many other personal computers were shaped like a
box, clumsy and took up a lot of space. The graphic design of the iMac helped change the
industries approach by giving the public a computer that was more functional and for the first
time could be personalized by choosing a color that might fit the personality of its user. In
addition, the iMac did away with having a floppy disc drive and introduced the new USB port.
The new standard would prove essential for the unleashing of various accessories soon to come.

What Is Improper Use Of Force
Police officers are allowed to use force as part of their day to day duties. Officers must use their
judgment to determine when the use of force is warranted. In order for officers to make the
appropriate decision, proper training must take place. In order to perform at their best, they must
become familiarized with federal and state court cases, state law, and departmental policies
directing such actions (Lim Lee, 2015). According to Lim Lee (2015) failure to fully understand
and simply just following the regulations can lead to community resistance, loss of public
confidence in law enforcement, and legal liabilities. Improper use of force is one of the few
behaviors that reduce community confidence in policeofficers (Lim Lee, 2015).

How Broadway Has Changed The Economy, Tourism, And...
We are living in the excesses of freedom. Just take a look at 42nd Street and Broadway.
Broadway has evolved tremendously since its opening, from more theatres to a larger audience. A
numerous amount of plays have been performed that have left unforgettable memories on everyone.
Broadway has made major effective impacts on the economy, tourism, and entertainment industry.
In 1750 when Walter Murray and Thomas Kean decided to open their theatrecompany on Nassau
Street, is when the origin of Broadway began. Their theatre was only large enough to hold 280
audience members and mostly put on ballad operas and Shakespearian plays because he was
popular during that time. Musicals and theatre moved to Broadway in the middle of the century ...

Broadway began getting more known in 1882 when a family named the Mallory s decided to build
the Madison Square Theatre. Nobody but themselves believed it would remain successful because
they had built it on 29th street which was far out of town where most tourists and business was
located. But to their advantage other attractive entertainment started being built in that section, like
The Casino Theatre, the Abby Theatre, and the Empire Theatre. Since there was so much
entertainment it just attracted everyone to go out of Manhattan. Throughout the years they have
managed to build 39 official Broadway Theatres. They also offer Off Broadway shows which are
shows that take place in small theatre that consist of 200 500 seats that will cost you less than
watch a show at a Broadway Theatre. Due to the low prices Off Broadway shows have decreased
and if something is not done soon to increase the popularity again, they might just get taken out
forever. During the 1900 s Broadway was viewed by mainly middle class people who were
searching for a date night, some excitement, and some soothing music. Since it wasn t taken so
seriously by the public, the best seats in the theatre valued from $1.50 to $2.00. Compared to the
prices of today, back then they practically paid a penny. This all is due to the cost of maintenance
that they had now in comparison to the price of

Could London follow New York and lose its creative class?
Rohan Silva, a former senior policy advisor to UK prime minister David Cameron, has warned
Londoners that the flow of creative people from New York to Los Angeles could be sign of
things to come for the big smoke. He believes that the recent trend of creatives leaving New York
due to exorbitant living costs and a lack of suitable studio space could also happen in London, and

me the most was the one on obesity. I was quite chubby for my age so I always thought that that
might have been the reason why I became a women at an early age. Just accepting it didn t seem

precocious puberty. I read articles on precocious puberty but those articles didn t really explain how

(Montessori, M., The Secret of Childhood, Part1, Chapter IV: Where adults impede the question of

For example, I ve noticed that at the Montessori school where I did my work experience the
children interacted repeatedly with the environment by using the Montessori materials: Dressing
frames or Pink Tower and this interaction lasted longer than the directress child one, because once
the child has been introduced to the Montessori materials he will learn as his nature dictates and
he will know how to do the Montessori activities without being in need of the directress. The
prepared environment has three components: one physical that is represented by the child sized
furniture and the Montessori materials, another intellectual created with the help of the directress
who designs the perfect climate for the child to work and develop himself and another one
spiritual offering the child patterns of spiritual behaviour through the genuine example given by
the directress.( I ve noticed at the Montessori school, in the pre school classroom that every time
the directress was praying before the snack time, the children took her example and did the
same). The directress is the one who plans the way in which the environment has to be prepared
for the children, according to the child s each activity and to the materials required for each
exercise; the things regarding the planning of the environment have to move from the directress to
the child: e.g. I ve seen at the Montessori School where I did my work experience that the

Merlet s Film Artemisia
Director Agnes Merlet s film, Artemisia , tells the story of the Italian Baroque painter Artemisia
Gentileschi and her relationship with her teacher. Merlet s take on the story is one that endorses the
student teacher romance; as well as promoting Gentileschi s feminism and portraying her as a
strong, individual character. The movie is successful in depicting both the intensity of student
teacher relationship, and Artemisia s independent will. Nevertheless, at times the relationship
between Tassi and Artemisia seems more Hollywood like than realistic, which at times degrades
Artemisia s character by making her seem injudicious.

Descartes, Hobbes, and Pascal During the 17th and 18th century, religion, religious beliefs and
most of all the religious leaders played a very influential role in the direction of politics. This
was also a time when religion and politics played a large role in the direction of what was
accepted as a result of the new discoveries in the natural sciences and in a time when there were
some very influential writers, philosophers, scientists and mathematicians. At the time, these people
were considered to be very radical and revolutionary because of some of their beliefs and this often

In it, Descartes talks about the existence of the human beings and the existence of God. He gets
himself to doubt everything and then assumes that doubt does exist. That is how he reaches to
the conclusion of Cogito Ergo Sum , which means, I think, therefore I am . He realizes that if he
can think, then he also exists, and he uses this also to prove the existence of God. He says that
the body and the mind are two separate entities and the only thing that unites them is God.
Descartes was very flattered to know how much people appreciate his writings and he assured
that he probably would have had a better time with the church nowadays because they are more
open minded. In the past, although Descartes believed in God, the Church did not like him a lot
and that really depressed him. He realized that nowadays, the Church is not as strict as before
because science has taken total control over the people and now is much more respected than
before. As we can see, as time has gone by, he continues, science has divorced from the church
and it seems that soon it will become like a separate religion because he was amazed how much
people believe in all of the science s claims. The next author that will talk about is Thomas
Hobbes. As we all know, he was the writer of the famous Leviathan, which was written in England
on 1651. In his writing, he presents us a bleak picture of human beings in the

The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police
The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of
someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are
harder to spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers
who are supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles,
the Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD) was full of policewho were criminals. The Rampart
incident is a textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement
branch of our society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand
the importance of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong
moral and will do the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it
means that there is little or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code
of Ethics. The level of integrity within each police department depends on how the department is
managed, which then dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts
determines how the public views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity)
When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three
distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3)
miss use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995).

The Development of Religious Archetecture in New Kingdom...
The expansion of the political and economical power during the New kingdom, led to the devotion
of resources to the religious architecture; numerous new temples were constructed while the pre
existing temples were renovated. Individual Pharaohs endeavored to out do their ancestors, not
only in the construction of their own mortuary temples, but also in the establishment of worship
temples of their deities. Kings of this period abandoned the pyramid complexity of the earlier ages
and constructed their tombs in the Valley of the Kings well away from their mortuary temples due
to the increase of robbers; therefore a standardized plan became default for both the worship and
mortuary temples. Because of this movement, I believe that the divine... Show more content on

The turning point of the New Kingdom s architecture was during the reign of Akhenaten, which
took place during the Amarna period. During this era, the sun god Aten became superior over all the
gods, thus leading to the abolition of the former gods that caused Egypt to have a polytheistic
religion. Traditional temples became neglected, whilst Aten temples of differing sharper
construction emerged. Although none of the temples of this period survived due to the ravages of
later kings, yet (image 7) portrays that the Amarna temples did not follow along the traditional
footsteps of previous architecture, instead they were smaller in size, with sanctuaries open to the
sun for the direct worship of Aten, with no doors and a large number of altars. During the reign that
followed, of Amehotep III and Ramses II, the monotheistic religion returned and many noted
changes took place. The tendency of huge royal statues and funerary temples were a common
feature as well as the gradual yielding to columns with plant motifs and Osiride pillars, completely
transformed the atmosphere of the temples interior. A complete alternation in the interiors of the
great halls and courtyards of the temples resulted from the change of supports, columns. Image 8

Important Factors That Affect Plant Growth And Development...
3.1 Introduction
Chamomile and yarrow are both medicinal plants cultivated all over the world in an effort to
determine the main active compounds from plant materials. The main factors that influence plant
growth and development are temperature, light, and plant date. An extensive amount of studies
have been done on the effect of controlled conditions on the growth of in vitro and in vivo
chamomile and yarrow cultures (Giorgi et al., 2014; Mohammad et al., 2010).
Date of planting and ages of seedling had significant effects on chamomile morphological
characterizations. The maximum values for plant spread, plant height, and shoots produced,
number of branches production and the diameter of flower heads was observed from 15th April
compared to 1st May, 15th May and 30th May. Nevertheless, all measurement characteristics were
not significantly affected by the ages of seedling except for, plant spread and plant height at
transplanting. The highest plant spreads were obtained after 30 days of seedlings, whereas the
maximum plant heights were examined after 90 days of seedlings (Mohammad et al., 2010).
On the other hand, growing season and light environment were two factors which strongly affected
all growth parameters of yarrow during different growing seasons. The fresh and dry weight of
stem/leaf ratio, the leaves and the fresh weight of inflorescence were mainly influenced by light
conditions (Giorgi et al., 2014). The greatest development of leaves, stem/leaf ratio and

believe it should be legal in at least some circumstances, a number of polls show that a majority
of voters oppose abortion after 20 weeks (Sneed). The republicans have proposed a bill that bans
abortion after twenty weeks, if a person were to have an abortion after this time period it will be
considered illegal and there will be consequences. If a woman was raped and got pregnant if she
does not wish to have the child according to the new law being proposed, that said woman has to
report the rape to the police and then she can proceed with the abortion. As stated by the article,
Abortion rights supporters counter with polling that shows voters are more supportive of

Victor depends heavily on companionship from Clerval to keep him from going insane in times of hardship and tragedy. Walton desires the companionship of a man to share in the beauty and wonder of things throughout his travels. When asked to be exiled away to South America, The Creature has one sole request for Victor Frankensteinbefore he leaves; a female companion to help him bear the burden of loneliness. Throughout his first days of life, The Creature is consistently rejected by all those around him, including his own creator. This happens repeatedly throughout his life. In seeking out a companion, this shows the characteristic of equality because he just wants to be like everyone else and be able to make connection in life. He wishes that his life wasn t filled only with loneliness and rejection, but with the love of another being. I am alone and miserable; man will not associate with me... (Frankenstein, Mary Shelley, Chapter 16, Page 133). The Creature is aware of what he looks like and he knows that the only things that could ever offer him companionship is something just like him. Another Romantic Element would be the Individual versus society. The Creature faces rejection from everyone and his desire for a companion to be built for him shows just that. He has been pushed away from every single person that he has tried to connect with. He has been poised against society. He knows that the only person who he has a chance of building a relationship with is one who was made just like him, just as terrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Zen Buddhism Zen Buddhism emphasizes much like the Shinto tradition the act of cleansing, accept that it focuses on meditation as a way to purify the mind. This interpretation of purification as seen within the Buddhist teachings, is the attempt to clear the mind of contaminated beliefs, concepts, and materials, which can be harmful to someone seeking enlightenment. This can be understood by Dogen who wrote within the Bendowa that the, The person seated in zazen without fail casts off body and mind, severs all the heretofore disordered and defiled thoughts and views emanating from his discriminating consciousness, conforms totally with the genuine Buddha Dharma, (Dogen 2002, p. 12). Within this section of the text, Dogen uses a metaphysical approach to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The negativity of being attached to materialistic objects and desires are the two most prominent possessions that Dogen explains must be destroyed in order to achieve absolute awareness. This belief is evident when Dogen states that, Leaving no perceptions in any sphere or directions; all living beings use it unceasingly, with no sphere or direction appearing in their perceptions, (Dogen 2002, p. 8). This describes Dogen s thought that by being restricted or limited to think in a certain way can be a leading influence where pollutants of the mind can grow and fester. The historical context of the following passage was that Dogen gave the distinction that zazen was the more superior technique. This was asserted in order to gain a better understanding of the prominent technique that was utilized by the Buddha during his pilgrimage to Japan and China. It remains evident that much like Shinto tradition, Zen Buddhism attempts to clarify within its own interpretation the causes of these types of mental toxins, and ways in which they can be cured. Although Shinto focuses primarily on physical impurities, Zen Buddhism describes them on a spiritual level and so it is through this where we can see the clear relations that the two respective religions have with each ... • 5. Notes On Rock Fracture Density And Permeability 4.3. Subsurface water considerations to research: 4.3.1. Rock Fracture Density and Permeability Estimates Fracture density can be defined as the number of fractures per unit length, area or volume. Fracture density is largely dependent on local bedding thickness and location relative to local faults. Due to the mountainous nature of the Andes Mountains and the close proximity of Ocelot Mine to the MFTB, the limestone host rock can be considered to have a heavy fracture density. Fractures also have a strong influence on the permeability of a host rock. Permeability is a function of the transmissivity of individual rock fractures as well as how the individual fractures connect together to form fracture networks. The transmissivity of rocks in a specific environment is difficult to quantify; however, they are largely dependent on the fracture aperture distribution. A mean aperture for limestone is 265 micrometers. The connectedness of a fracture network is strongly dependent on the spatial density of fractures in a rock which can be quantified at the surface through detailed mapping or through the subsurface by seismic travel times [2]. The Antmania copper zinc mine is located 100 km southwest of the Ocelot lease area and is the closest mine to our location. Hydrogeological research done at Antamina has revealed an average permeability value of 10 6m/s to 10 7m/s with local bedrock units also displaying karstic features [3]. Macroeconomics looks at the bigger picture and involves the study of the economy as a whole. National income Let us start by looking at a simple example a two sector economy made up of households (consumers) and firms (producers) and use this to develop the idea of national income. To start with we will ignore the impact of government policy and overseas sectors. Households ultimately own the factors of production, e.g., labour, materials and capital, and supply these factors to firms who use them to produce goods and services. In return households earn rewards for supplying the firms with the factors of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This model will use the following definitions: Consumption (C) consumption goods produced and sold to customers i.e., the chairs. Savings (S) income that is not spent on consumption. Investment (I) production of, or expenditure on, non consumption goods (carried out by firms) including expenditure on increasing stocks of consumption goods. Injections expenditure on domestic output not originating from consumers e.g., investment. Leakages income not spent on consumption of domestic output e.g., savings. Consumers will not spend all their income on goods and services. They will also have savings income not spent on consumption. Similarly producers will not just spend on producing goods but will also carry out investment expenditure on non consumption goods. There are therefore injections into (investment) and leakages from (savings) the circular flow. These injections and leakages can now be added to the circular flow model (see Figure 2) Figure 2 Notes to Figure 2 In this model the income earned by households (Y) must be equal to expenditure on purchasing national product (E). A thorough analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals how she conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings are for her husband. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a church. In Corinthians, Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, which was a major cosmopolitan city filled with idolatry and immorality. In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public. Some women thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the men in public worship, and this caused a division in the church. Women in that day did not receive formal religion education like men, so women may have been raising questions in the services that could have been answered at home. Paul was trying to promote unity, not teach about women s roles in the church. Another verse brought to question is 1 Timothy 2: 11 14, which reads: A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. Designed by Spanish architects SelgasCano, the converted carpet factory attempts to reinvent the office to reflect contemporary working habits, allowing tenants to stay after work and mingle with one another. Merlet s take on the story is one that endorses the student teacher romance; as well as promoting Gentileschi s feminism and portraying her as a strong, individual character. The movie is successful in depicting both the intensity of student teacher relationship, and Artemisia s independent will. Nevertheless, at times the relationship between Tassi and Artemisia seems more Hollywood like than realistic, which at times degrades Artemisia s character by making her seem injudicious. The acting in the film was especially vigorous, and effective. Actress Valentina Cerviaccurately interprets Gentileschi s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He gets himself to doubt everything and then assumes that doubt does exist. That is how he reaches to the conclusion of Cogito Ergo Sum , which means, I think, therefore I am . He realizes that if he can think, then he also exists, and he uses this also to prove the existence of God. He says that the body and the mind are two separate entities and the only thing that unites them is God. Descartes was very flattered to know how much people appreciate his writings and he assured that he probably would have had a better time with the church nowadays because they are more open minded. In the past, although Descartes believed in God, the Church did not like him a lot and that really depressed him. He realized that nowadays, the Church is not as strict as before because science has taken total control over the people and now is much more respected than before. As we can see, as time has gone by, he continues, science has divorced from the church and it seems that soon it will become like a separate religion because he was amazed how much people believe in all of the science s claims. • 40. The Importance Of Police Integrity In The Police The world is full of crime and hate. When you think of criminal, an image pops in your head of someone wearing bland clothing with a mask or a thug with gang tattoos. Some criminals are harder to spot, like those who commit white collar crime. What happens when the police officers who are supposed to enforce the law, are the actual criminals? During the 1990 s in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department(LAPD) was full of policewho were criminals. The Rampart incident is a textbook example of how criminal activity can be found even in the law enforcement branch of our society. To get a better understanding what police corruption is, one must understand the importance of the police having integrity. Integrity means that a person is honest and has strong moral and will do the right thing. For the police department in a community to have integrity, it means that there is little or no misconduct by police officers and the office follow the Police Code of Ethics. The level of integrity within each police department depends on how the department is managed, which then dictates how officers act toward the community, and how the officers acts determines how the public views the integrity of the police. (Police Integrity) When police departments do not have integrity it is called police corruption. For corruption, three distinct elements must be present, 1) miss use of authority, 2) miss use of official capacity, and 3) miss use of personal attainment (Dantzker, 1995). ... The expansion of the political and economical power during the New kingdom, led to the devotion of resources to the religious architecture; numerous new temples were constructed while the pre existing temples were renovated. Individual Pharaohs endeavored to out do their ancestors, not only in the construction of their own mortuary temples, but also in the establishment of worship temples of their deities. Kings of this period abandoned the pyramid complexity of the earlier ages and constructed their tombs in the Valley of the Kings well away from their mortuary temples due to the increase of robbers; therefore a standardized plan became default for both the worship and mortuary temples. The turning point of the New Kingdom s architecture was during the reign of Akhenaten, which took place during the Amarna period. During this era, the sun god Aten became superior over all the gods, thus leading to the abolition of the former gods that caused Egypt to have a polytheistic religion. Traditional temples became neglected, whilst Aten temples of differing sharper construction emerged. Although none of the temples of this period survived due to the ravages of later kings, yet (image 7) portrays that the Amarna temples did not follow along the traditional footsteps of previous architecture, instead they were smaller in size, with sanctuaries open to the sun for the direct worship of Aten, with no doors and a large number of altars. During the reign that followed, of Amehotep III and Ramses II, the monotheistic religion returned and many noted changes took place. The tendency of huge royal statues and funerary temples were a common feature as well as the gradual yielding to columns with plant motifs and Osiride pillars, completely transformed the atmosphere of the temples interior. A complete alternation in the interiors of the great halls and courtyards of the temples resulted from the change of supports, columns. • 42. Important Factors That Affect Plant Growth And Development... 3.1 Introduction Chamomile and yarrow are both medicinal plants cultivated all over the world in an effort to determine the main active compounds from plant materials. The main factors that influence plant growth and development are temperature, light, and plant date. An extensive amount of studies have been done on the effect of controlled conditions on the growth of in vitro and in vivo chamomile and yarrow cultures (Giorgi et al., 2014; Mohammad et al., 2010). Date of planting and ages of seedling had significant effects on chamomile morphological characterizations. The maximum values for plant spread, plant height, and shoots produced, number of branches production and the diameter of flower heads was observed from 15th April compared to 1st May, 15th May and 30th May. Nevertheless, all measurement characteristics were not significantly affected by the ages of seedling except for, plant spread and plant height at transplanting. The highest plant spreads were obtained after 30 days of seedlings, whereas the maximum plant heights were examined after 90 days of seedlings (Mohammad et al., 2010). On the other hand, growing season and light environment were two factors which strongly affected all growth parameters of yarrow during different growing seasons. The fresh and dry weight of stem/leaf ratio, the leaves and the fresh weight of inflorescence were mainly influenced by light conditions (Giorgi et al., 2014). While Americans long have been split on the general question of abortion though a majority do believe it should be legal in at least some circumstances, a number of polls show that a majority of voters oppose abortion after 20 weeks (Sneed). The republicans have proposed a bill that bans abortion after twenty weeks, if a person were to have an abortion after this time period it will be considered illegal and there will be consequences. If a woman was raped and got pregnant if she does not wish to have the child according to the new law being proposed, that said woman has to report the rape to the police and then she can proceed with the abortion. As stated by the article, Abortion rights supporters counter with polling that shows voters are more supportive of abortions after 20 weeks in cases of fetal abnormalities (Sneed). In some extreme cases a few people believe that abortion should be allowed after the twenty week time period has passed, for instance in situations where it s not safe for the fetus and or the mother to continue with the pregnancy, or if the baby will have some sort of birth defects.
