Nan Yang Textile implemented several energy management initiatives between 2002-2006 to reduce their consumption. This included a steam and electricity demand reduction program during 2002-2004. In 2005, they completed a co-generation project to further reduce costs by generating their own electricity and steam on-site. This co-generation project helped them set a new energy record in 2006 by significantly lowering consumption compared to before the project. They believe similar co-generation opportunities exist for other industries in Thailand.

Superior Energy Performance® (SEP), administered by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office, is a certification program that verifies improvements in energy management and performance in industrial facilities. Industrial facilities can take advantage of SEP tools, resources, and protocols to set energy performance targets and then achieve and measure sustained savings to earn certification at the Silver, Gold, or Platinum level. Nine SEP certified facilities realized $87,000 to $984,000 in annual savings from no-cost or low-cost operational measures and have saved an average of 10% of energy costs within 18 months of implementing SEP.

Air Products and Chemicals Inc. has been active in the Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) which aims at mitigation of greenhouse gas. However, the company has not taken active role in clean energy production. The capture of CO2 released during combustion of fossil fuel before it reaches the atmosphere is a key process (Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., 2015d). An active participation however would make Air Products and Chemicals Inc. efforts more pronounced. Besides, it’s in adherence to Air Products and Chemicals Inc. goals of safety, the new production would enhance the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management.
