Working Title:
Shadows- Childish Gambino
Audience:
The video is aimed at a young adult/ teenage demographic. It would be mainly targeted for men as
the focus character in the song is a man and the song is about his struggles of staying in a
relationship so it would appeal more to a male audience. the video may also appeal to fans of
horror as that was a theme that I focused on in the intertextuality of the video. I think that the video
would appeal to a teenage/ young adult audience as the song is fairly recent and an older
audience probably wouldn’t enjoy it where as a younger audience is more likely to. The song is by
a well-known artist so this would probably increase its popularity with a teenage demographic.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The only work I’ve done so far for video production has been on the Irn Bru advert which I felt like I
had rushed in both filming and editing so now I want to plan my video more carefully. In my print
production, I made a horror film magazine which I had lots of ideas left over so this has impacted
my work on the video as I want to incorporate the theme of horror into the video as the song is
linked to fear and isolation in its second half. The Irn Bru project also impacted my video concept
as I now know that it’ll be more difficult to get good footage for my video and edit it well.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
My main concept for the video is to have a narrative that’s split into the first and second half of the
song. The dream like first half of the video that shows two characters in a sunny natural setting
who are talking and laughing for most of the first halve this wouldn’t have many cuts until it cuts to
a stalker character wearing all black that’s stalking the two (this would show theme of horror that’s
in the second act) the first act would transition into the second in a shot that turns 360 degrees
from facing a dart board to facing the main character then facing the dart board again but with a
dart that’s in a picture of the main character. The transition would feel like a glitch from this shot to
a shot of the main character crouched down and alone. I want my video to feel like a transition
from a dream to a nightmare where the main character realises he has pushed away love by
showing that the stalker figure is himself in the final shot that uses a cloning effect in adobe
premiere. I’ll have to research lots of editing techniques for the video such the cloning effect and I
need to know how to make the transition from the first half look like a glitch so it fits with the
transition in the song.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
What specialist techniques do you need to consider? (e.g. green screen, Steadicam, post-
production, sound, etc)
Does this require any specialist equipment/training/demos?
The main research I need for production techniques is learning how to use the cloning effect in
Photoshop as this is important for the final shot of the video where the main character finds out his
stalker is a copy of himself. One thing I might to work on is looking at how I can use camera angles
in the field setting of the first half of the song although it would be easier to do this on the day I film
as having actors there could help me think of easier shots. In the shot where the two characters
are being stalked I want to cut out the music and play a slowed down version of one of the lines in
the shot which I can probably edit in premiere. I will find it difficult to edit the video as it requires
quite a lot work.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
When I’m evaluating the video, I’ll need to look at how it compares to my original concept in was
such as the editing and production. I need know whether I looks how I want it to look and if I
thought I can improve this and how. I should look at everything from the lighting to the acting then
say how I could have improved it or what I would have done if I had more time to work on it.
